As much as I want to see him continue, but his stubbornness and refusal to listen to advice or look up how to properly play the game might be the reason he quits tbh, especially with a game like this which there is a ton of tech and info that the game doesn’t teach you or tell you about at all, it’s really one of the least beginner friendly games out there and he wants to go in blind relying on his dark souls instincts. I give him two week or so, maybe he’ll quit on rajang or raging brachy.

This is why people were spamming you to learn and understand all of your moveset, and the tools such as clutch/wallbang/flashpods/enviro-traps and everything else. Because you're going to hit a point where they're now required, and you dont have the muscle memory ingrained in you to utilize these things since you're just NOW being forced to learn them. Youre either gonna adapt and actually learn how to play, or youre gonna quit and call the game "bullshit trash" due to you refusing to learn, which has happened to games before with you.

i mean you are right, this is a HUNTING game, not a hit monsters with a sword game. gotta use all that you can to swing the fight in your favor, and if it gets away from you and you start getting combo'd and easy flash or trap can bring it right back in line real easy.

Remember MH is not a darksouls game where you can disregard the movesets/mechanics, grind to level up and brute force your way to endgame. Underestimating MH because you finished almost all soulsborne games, as someone has already mentioned here, will bite your ass in the future.

    • @luka188
      @luka188 6 місяців тому +19

@@tiltingart9276 Exactly this. When I first started, my first fight against Nergigante was a mess, it took me 40 minutes after karting twice early and I died at the very end, it was then that i realized this is not how the game is meant to be played or how these fights are meant to be, so I took some time, about 10 hours to seriously learn how to play my weapon (Switch Axe) and also study the characteristics of the various monsters, and my next fights against nergigante were around 10 minutes, just a nice clean battle without my palico.
After that things clicked, and I could actually play the game. It takes some investment, but not even that much. When fights take over 30 minutes, unless it is whole HP Alatreon, Zafi-Jiva or Fatalis, something is going very wrong. Even on those fights it shouldn't take that much time, but it is normal for them to take longer at first while learning the monster. Against the weaker monsters, who don't have close to a hundred thousand HP, just a few tens of thousands on master rank, the hunt shouldn't take much longer than 10 minutes.

    • @jacola7321
      @jacola7321 6 місяців тому +41

      @@tiltingart9276
Aren't these hunts we see on stream the first time he is fighting each of these monsters? I do not think we should expect him to be clearing these fights in less than thirty minutes on his first attempt. The fact that he is clearing most of these monsters in one or two tries without having fully come to understand how to use all the tools, traps, and mechanics available to him is impressive.
I do not think he is refusing to learn mechanics so much as Monster Hunter has a lot of mechanics that it either explains somewhat poorly or never tells you about. Do not get me wrong: It definitely tries to onboard new players a lot better than the previous games, but it still throws a large amount of information at new players that they do not have any context for and probably will not remember till they have practiced it in multiple hunts several times.
Additionally, he is clearly capable of doing so: He refought a Radobaan on stream, and he cleared it in about twenty minutes. It was clear that he had fought multiple Radobaan (Radobii?) off-stream, which is consistent with what we should expect from most players. Hunting the same monster over and over is what lets you get better at using the resources at your disposal against it.
Ultimately, none of this really matters: As long as a player is consistently succeeding in their hunts and having fun, what does it matter to anyone but that player how long it takes them? If we want to watch someone perfectly destroy a monster, there are plenty of excellent speedruns out there to watch.

instead of being instantly frustrated and thinking "I'm gonna quit", most of us evaluate our gear, change things around, craft something new, see what weaknesses the monster has, grab more consumables, etc, etc, and then try again and see if we can learn the monster's moves better! @@bubeable trying out a different weapon is not for everyone. especially in mh if you really dedicate yourself to a single weapon its actually not a bad thing and is one of the only ways to actually get really good at said weapon. using environmentals is a crutch and optional and helps people with shitty mechanics. it does NOT help you get better at actually fighting monsters. it doesnt help you read monsters better or make you position better. dying and failing is only a good thing in games like mh, especially if you dont let it get you down and learn why you failed and die.
also slingers are more of an advanced tech for majority of players. its really useful for great swords for changing direction mid combo and speeding up tcs but when you are still unfamiliar with a fck ton bout the game, like superman dive etc thats the least of your concerns. end of the day all you really need to kill a monster effectively is eat food, have potions, know the monster and your weapon. the rest is just icing. mantles/environment etc are all crutches that does not help you get better at actually playing the game.

Sadly most dont know that's one of this series main appeal since Monster Hunter 1, preparation, gearing up on a upcoming monster and trial and error so you can prepare better the next time around when you're about to fight the same or new monster. It was always suppose to feel like you were fighting a living animal and you NEEDED to gear up on correct tools before heading out to hunt. That sense of "strategic preparation" was handled better in the old games, since you couldn't take a camp/itembox to hunts to restock, so you had to mindful on what you bring with you.
People who just dive in and ignore the games mechanics is a big nono for a series like this.

    Some tips if I may.
    1. For really fast monsters, just use the "Draw" or "Guild Style" method where you from a sheath, do a full level one charge, roll and then sheath after.
It's probably the most safest way to do damage while still being mobile as a GS user and also allows you to learn monster attacks/areas that you can punish.
Velkahanas armor set is really good for this playstyle.
    2. If you're going to keep preferring to use True Charge Slash, he really needs to pick up Slinger Ammo and learn how to TCS skip with it.
Especially since he doesn't have any Focus decos/armor skills as of yet. Focus btw increases the speed of your charge up.
    3. Wall bangs/splat man, use em please. It really opens up damage opportunities for you. You can always do two wall bangs before the monster enters their agitated state.
    4. I'm not sure if he already picked it up but the Power/Armor Charms are really worth it and should be a mainstay in your item load out from here on out.
    5. For Armor Skills and decorations, getting 3 Health Boost decos, even at 1 star will boost your survivability. Followed by any Medicine Decos for bigger HP recovery from potions.
    6. Lastly you need to use your mantles Especially the Vitality Mantle as monsters after Velk and Bazel will one shot you.
Also, upgrading them and your boosters will again help with your survivability.
    7. Purely optional, but doing each regions Trail Rider quest long enough that you can call them using your Palico will provide you with two more meat shields/distractions you can use during the hunt. Especially the Boas and Gajalakas.

He just need to stop focusing on always landing his true charge on some monster, sometimes, you get more dps by just using a classic tackle + round slash to reposition and land a true charge after that, it keeps the dps more constant and make you more mobile to avoid or tank certain things, only focusing on landing full charge while you don't perfectly know a monster will only keep you from killing shit quicker without dying, for new GS player, specially with his type of gameplay, he need to just focus on evade window / extender, quick draw for some hit and run gameplay, don't try to focus on a type of gameplay you are clearly not made for, specially in this game, master rank is unforgiving for people that don't understand that. Also, learning how to exploit wall bang with GS is a must have, A MUST HAVE, because one wall bang will always hurt more that some random or mid game build, not always true for end game build, plus, it give you enough time to make a full true charge on the monster, just doing 3 wall bang + full combo true charge can get you 15 minutes on your ending quest time in mid game, specially for those GS players who don't have constant dps.

    without being pedantic...
if you are struggling, it's all your fault.
you are clearly good at fighting monsters (since you've come this far, this is proof of you being a good fighter) but not at hunting them:
-if you used flash pods to have openings you would break key parts easier (monsters can only be blinded 3 times before being invulnerable to them) use them when monster fly.
-if you used temporal/vitality/rocksteady mantles on cooldown you'd also have a better time
-if you used clutch claw to wall bang to get opening and materials you'd not only have to farm less, but you'd clear faster too. (after wallbanging, monsters get enraged, making agitator have better uptime, and while enraged they can't get wallbanged)
-using traps on non-elder monsters, using environmental hazards like spikes.
-putting the shortcut to craft max potions in your item bar, instead of using small potions, which get interrupted when you have to dodge mid chug. (or at LEAST the materials to craft mega potions, which the base can refill automatically...)
the fights are designed with you having access to all of those tools, you are not doing some big brain challenge by purposefully ignoring them.
35 mins on fights is not normal, you'd take around 11 just by doing the things i pointed above.

-but in MH you are a "hunter" the main mechanics of the game, outside of your weapon moveset, are hunting tools. there's crafting, mantles, boosters, traps, slinger ammo, clutch claw, etc...
-against velkana he would literally halve the fight time by just GRABBING THE DRAGON POD to elderseal his ice armor...

You get a SINGLE flashpod knockdown on an aerial monster in a fight now, and often they come with an immunity to the knockdown straight up if their head isn't broken (hi rathalos). Any flashes past that point will ONLY make them random their movement/targeting direction for a while, which imo leads to worse monster movement and positioning in the first place (random charged directions ahoy).

"I hate having to struggle that much"
"No, i don't want to use mantles, wallbangs, better consumables, hunt specific gear, etc"
Its nice that he tries the hunts in a vanilla fashion first to learn, but if it disheartens him this much to fail a mission once to a hard monster while still refusing to use the tools at his disposal he is just setting himself up for failure - you are not improving in a tangible manner if you block out a majority of the things that the game gives you to improve your effectiveness in a hunt in the first place.

He's relying on one trick ponying, he needs to practice his weapon and learn the basic mechanics like using the slinger and environment for your advantage. Flash pods are important with GS, like he said: "man I only get one hit in", well, do something about it, figure it out, but he seems to stubborn to stop and think for solutions.

I'm pretty sure the nail is already in the coffin. Velkhana isn't all that hard. He's refused to use mantles, optimize gear, or use armor spheres too much. You can tell even what he does know goes out the window when he panics and starts attacking bosses while at half hp and claiming he doesn't even see massively telegraphed attacks.
