Juliana got "replaced" by the fae in between the first and second loops. Her name changes slightly (gets another n) and she doesn't want to touch the iron horseshoe. Iron was considered the bane of the fae and iron horseshoes were often used as talismans of protection against them. Many legends of the fae involve changelings replacing people with strange "off" versions. Julianna gets you to take it down, removing the protection.
Also not sure if it's intentional, but the horseshoe is upside down for a luck symbol. A horseshoe with the ends pointed up is for good luck(it's "catching" the good luck like a bowl) where an upside down one is unlucky(since you're "dumping out" the good luck)

The plant is the same thing. We have a name for it here. It's tied to the same thing of Warding against Evil. If a plant is dying, specially this one, it means something bad is going to happen due to the influence of outside forces (usually people outside of your home who come to you and get jealous of something). All the other things seem to tie to some urban folklore of the 70's and 80's about cursed VHS tapes. But I guess that trope wasn't just spread here in Brazil. It's the same concept of The Ring or even Video Drome (Some people who get too stuck into their pursuit of the truth and then start to lose themselves).

One of these days one of these "don't watch this, it spreads by other people seeing it" is going to exist and billions will be doomed because their favorite UA-camr uploads their EPIC GAMER reaction to it, copious clickbait and all
@@Code_Machine "Oh come on, Matt, you've watched this three times already today! I have other viewers I need to drive insane!" "Sorry Azetodeth, it's just such a good video." "You're lucky I'm too overworked to drag you off to the firey pits for an eternity of suffering."
I don't know if the game is supernatural or not. But symbolism wise I think the game trying to critic the media and it's viewer in general. The phrase "Their lenses have become our eyes" probably symbolism for us, the viewer that stopped searching for the truth and instead consuming media mindlessly. The phrase "Turning off the vcs to slip their fingers" (I forgot the exact words) the word "their" probably implied to the government and the whole phrase gives meaning to stop believing the news and the government. Most likely though, considering the forest footage and the last video from the gallery I have a feeling this is just a prologue to bigger stories.
It's very apt. Watching the news convinces people that we have real pandemics, that everyone is a leftist groupthink, and that shit like vaccines works. People really need to pursue the real truth instead of what media tells them.
Dude, how? How did you get "government" from "them"? I could understand if this was happening during the last Brazilian dictatorship but, nothing here suggests that. I do think you're right on the media observation. It's on the front and center of the story, so it's safe to assume the game is criticizing them. I think the lenses quote suggest reality is more complex ("unnatural") than we believe and media edits reality to be much simpler to hide the ugly, unconvential truths of the world. "Them" being one of those truths
Your lenses are their eyes. Turn off the lenses - cover the camera, break the TV, cut the broadcast - and you slip through their fingers. I think that's the key to understanding this story... the entities responsible for this nightmare want that tape spread to everybody. The true message from Walter is when he tells you to stop.
_Very creepy_ And very well done. The little details in this game were great in setting up the loop of events and perhaps driving the person(s) watching into another dimension of time. Juliana changed to Julianna and her personality changed. Then the confusion of the apartment number, the strangeness of the widow who seemed to have an influence over you at the window. That was a great catch about the horseshoe magnet having something to do with preventing an entity from leaving or entering. And I wonder about the role of those lightning strikes. That ending with how he got the tape was a surprise. And that too was being taped. A really nifty horror game and I hope the dev does a lot more!
The birdwatcher in me is happy to see some lesser known birds featured in this game, like the story about the lapwing and the brewers blackbird clip on the tv set
I was not expecting someone to speak Portuguese - my native language - in this game. This scared me more than any other gameplay I've ever watched, lol I had to pause and look around confused
O mercado de jogos é tão saturado de Inglês que boa parte das outras línguas fica parecendo uma coisa de outro mundo quando elas aparecem nesse tipo de mídia, né 😅
If I had a dollar for every "you must not watch this!" footage I watched I would have zero dollars from it because I am a cordial and law obeying citizen, that's why I "watched this video with my eyes closed.
I believe the tape was a culmination of everything you recorded while playing. And that's why it's a recording of the unknown past and unseen future. And you handed it to Walter. Thus begin a loop. That's why everyone already had a different memory of how Walter 'ended' his last report on tv on the first run.
The original tape that he received is what the cameraman recorded, is what you're saying? This is so very confusing. What are the visuals on the tape you watch though? That doesn't seem like anything you recorded. Is the Operator the cameraman, or is it someone else?
Besides just being a supernatural found footage story of "curiosity killed the cat". I think this story is also trying to show a little bit of the negative side of news media. I mean right off the bat our two portages aren't shown in the best light, their bothering a very recent widow, lying to her so they can enter her apartment and then using that time to snoop around without asking. The horseshoe on the first loop also interested me, yes it is a symbol of luck but it's something else too. I lived on a farm with my catholic family growing up and back then we used horseshoes as wards. You'd keep them upwards for all the good luck to collect and then you'd place downwards above a door so all that luck can spill out and keep evil from entering. With that context in mind it's interesting it bothered Juliana and she wanted it taken down. I don't think the two are evil necessarily but cleary they're not in the right either and they should have never entered through the door. I guess that's why the cameraman is given the ending where Walter (I assume) tells him he still has time to get rid of the tape and that it's not worth it and that he can slip through their fingers (their fingers being the government? Some head honcho of sorts?). He is able to hear this because he's different from Juliana in the sense that he was sympathetic with the widow and that he wanted to leave multiple times. He wasn't your typical news journalist that would do anything for a story. But what do I know I'm probably wrong lol.
I agreed with you. Because the tape at the again says only those working in media or studio can watch the tape, which is weird when you think about it.
How rare for a VN to ACTUALLY be creepy and scary, others were usually 1 out of 10 in term of creepiness but i had no heart to rate them like that every video, but this one was solid 7,9 out of 10 Stuck in a time loop powered by a lightning strike but by the time you find out the truth its too late for main cast and the "OPERATOR" is also breaking the 4th wall just a teeny tiny bit by recognizing the viewer's existence and the "rewind" was gradually glitching out on last manly's attempts You can recognize similar concept in exe game creepypastas where file is like 300 kb but it actually spawns a monster behind the player, like something really mundane going into silent hill level of scariness
I'm pretty sure the game itself is the tape that plagues the cast. The imagery when Juliana is watching seems reminiscent of some of the environments and happenings in the game, and the contents seem to be able to change with each loop. At least, that's how it seems to me. Also worth noting the message as the game opens says that this is a tape owned by ComuniTV and reproduction is prohibited. Meanwhile the copy Walter tried to make was mysteriously destroyed.
That was really cool. No idea on the story beyond a cursed tape, some kind of loop and a very good boy who doesn't deserve to be part of this, but it's really cool. Good tension, nice writing, some strong creepy moments. I don't really think we're meant to solve this, we lack key information putting us on equal grounds with the journalists.
This is a really kickass little game. I love the art direction. Hit everything on the nose as far as pre-digital television goes. Even the dialogue boxes looked like news motion graphics I think it’s fair to say the dev took inspiration from Local 58. And the idea of entities whispering to you through a television screen called to mind Mandela Catalogue’s Metaphysical Awareness Disorder. The idea that you can be forced to learn forbidden knowledge you can’t come back from. To an extent, I feel like that’s what’s happening here, though obviously not just like MAD. It would explain why the characters dissuade you from pursuing “the truth” any further.
Did you try putting T124 in the elevator? At 44:30 it flashes in the spot that would normally show 00:00 - definitely intended to be a sequence of elevator buttons, I think.

Why does the premise of journalists sneaking in to watch a V/H/S tape seem so familiar. Almost like there was a movie or two about it. Also Gunpowder is an odd name for a dog. Maybe more so than an evil tape.
I've got a relative that named his dog Bullet, so Gunpowder doesn't feel weird to me (and at least Gunpowder makes some sense, given the dog's coloring). 😅
@@voidbreather7405 Bullet makes sense though because bullets like dogs are pretty fast and loud. Gunpowder on the other hand doesn't seem to evoke much on it's own. It'd be like calling the dog coal based on the coloring alone and nothing else.
@@XzMondayNightzX Gunpowder has specific usages, though, so perhaps the name is also an indicator of the dog's usual demeanor and personality (which we're not seeing at the moment, since they appear to be both missing Walter and feeling skeeved out by the weird happenings in the apartment).
At 26:30 and 44:30 the program time stamp changes from "00:00 AM Zero Reporter" to "T124 TELEFORUM". I believe it could be a code on the elevator's panel. Manly even believes you may be able to set a different number to the elevator different than 6 (40:16), but quickly discards the idea...

This curse was born by the ambition of a reporter that wanted a big story to become even more famous and got trapped in a curse were the only way to be saved alongside everyone else is to ignore the story, the need for blood and death, let the death of a man be a tragedy instead of a news report.

This game has really a really good horror atmosphere. No jumpscare, no big monster reveal, no chase scenes. Just really spooky atmosphere and a general feel of uneasiness all around. My own interpretation is that the tape somehow gets its viewers stuck in a loop between timelines and alternate dimensions. That is why there are subtle changes each loop like Julian(n)a's appearance and personality. And the tape is pretty insidious in that it leads you to believe there is a true ending, but actually there is no true end. There are different "endings" but no big conclusion to the story. The only way to end this would be to stop watching ie stop playing. But the very act of trying to find a solution is causing the player to keep on playing, in other words you are trapping yourself in the loop.
At 44:32 the TV programs change? The last one changes to T124 TELEFORUM. I wish I could play this, I have a feeling you can use the T124 in the elevator for a secret ending or something, near the end at 49:43 when you're in the elevator, T is one of the buttons you can use for a floor.... Very curious... Great video tho Manly!
huuuu, thanks for the tip! I was playing the game and I got a secret scene from that. It shows an operator (played by you) handing the cursed tape to walter (on the day walter first receives it).
usually, i would get annoyed when watching a playthrough where the game's story is very ambiguous, but this one is very cool. I really like the concept and don't mind about all the weird things happening throughout the game.
I think what helps it is that the ambiguous stuff isn’t important. The game shows what matters clearly, and so the vague things feel more like spooky details and less like confusing or overdone bs.
i played this game and watched it w several diff youtubers and i still cannot understand the story and the plot correctly.. this gave me a headache from thinking.. but i still love it anyways :D

very interesting game. this one really feels like the dev has a huge bible of deepest lore, and only touches on bits of it. so much subtle things in the game, that are largely unexplained. but doesn't feel random or like they were just to be weird. it all felt like it was intentional.
I was wondering if this game was Brazilian as well. The names check up. But what confirmed it for me was that she called the money Cruzeiros. That and the fact she said they covered up journalistic works in the 70s. That also checks out.
One thing that helps me get through these, kind of, is to keep in mind that we're not the main character, but instead whoever is viewing the footage. We're safe! For now.
i really liked this game! it was eerie and ambiguous in the perfect way, with a tense, uneasy atmosphere that drew me in even as i was afraid what was coming next. extremely masterful! kind of reminds me of Ringu, not just bc of the tape thing but the lighting and story atmosphere. it puts me in the same chilling mood. plus, its cool to see a Brazilian horror game :D
just found your channel a few days ago and you’re already one of my favorite horror game ytber, with the way you voice act every character its js so on point! and way more entertaining or “realistic”
since the release of MyHouse Doom mod, I see a lot of indie horror games inspired by the House of Leaves book. This is one of them, you see the word "tape" highlighted a different color just like in the book the word "house" is always highlighted - so that's a dead giveaway.
something i haven't seen mentioned yet is that the icon used for the Operator's dialogue (50:33) is the same one used for the TV'S dialogue (15:59, and 39:32). don't know what that could mean but it feels important to point out.
I’m cracking up at the idea of someone being asked to press an elevator button and immediately flailing all over the elevator touching every surface before even getting to the buttons all the while saying, “Is there anything else I can interact with here?”
One of the last runs, the TV showed the channels ... the channel for Teleforum was T 1 2 4. I wonder if hitting those buttons in sequence in the elevator would be another ending.
I noticed you missed a code. In one of the ending scenes where it displays the times the 00:00 AM flickers and changes to "T124". Later when you saw the game was moving through the hall & elevator on it's own there were four button presses being heard, but not seen. What happens if you push "T124" on the elevator? Sounds like a secret ending?

Another comment mentioned the Fae and thats why the horse shoe was there. Although, it could be a possibilty that this is a duplicates situation with more skinwalker type creatures, and watching the tape directly creates a copy of you as a skinwalker/duplicate. The horse shoe could be put there a long time ago by Martin after he was experimenting with the tape and realized that another one of him exists, so researched and found the Fae explaining the horse shoe. But it wasn't the Fae, it was a skinwalker, leading to possibly him killing himself or the duplicate killing himself or killing him directly to escape the situation. Just a theory, i dont know much about brazillian culture, but i think the theory of the tape creating some sort of "alternate" has merit.
amazing. this one had such a good atmosphere. adriana standing in the doorframe before getting the coffee was the first thing to spook me. the story is an enigma... I felt worried for Gunpowder throughout the entire game, though. I feel like there are definitely many secrets tied to combinations of what you click, what you say, and at which point in the game you do it (am curious about what would happen if we ignore Julianna's prompt to remove the horseshoe the first time.) also, where did Juliana go...?

Fun fact: “Cruzeiro” was the Brazilian currency before the introduction of the current one (Real). It was used between 90 and 93, which must be the period of the game. The 90s cruzeiro is the second appearance of the currency. The first one was from 42 to 67, which is definitely not the scenario in the game.
What I think the story is, is falling into a loop of media consumption and creation. Film especially. People get hypnotized by screens. Cameras record, and thus decide, what we see. And eventually, the people behind the camera and in front of the screen stop existing. Its just the tv. The tape... Im not sure what exactly it is. Its either something so engaging its effectivly a drug. Or it contains proof of media companies specifically engineering films to draw attention. Possably breeding an "entity" or playing god with a fact of reality or human psychi, without knowing what they are doing, and ignoring possible downsides in favour if money.

Yeah it's a good thing The Ring wasn't set in the last fifteen years, lol.
Was expecting a massive jump scare. The game seemed PRIMED for a big one. Not disappointing it didn’t happen but still surprised they didn’t do one.
Skinamarink type of thing where you REALLY expect jumpscare to blow you away and in the end it's Just nothing
I disagree, very much disappointing.
"horror" doesn't have anything about jumpscares in it's definition.
@@lufcik69
Yeah. When i think of ‘Horror’ i think of something disgusting and creepy.
@@lufcik69in that case then the story wasn't good enough to do horror without a jumpscare
_Very creepy_
And very well done.
At 36:15 you can see her name change from julianna to juliana i dont know what that should mean but it there it is
The birdwatcher in me is happy to see some lesser known birds featured in this game, like the story about the lapwing and the brewers blackbird clip on the tv set
I was not expecting someone to speak Portuguese - my native language - in this game.
This scared me more than any other gameplay I've ever watched, lol

If I had a dollar for every "you must not watch this!" footage I watched I would have zero dollars from it because I am a cordial and law obeying citizen, that's why I "watched this video with my eyes closed.
You made my day 🥲
I believe the tape was a culmination of everything you recorded while playing.
I agree. A lot of what you mentioned also came to my mind while watching this video
Interesting take but...why government? This does *not* give off conspiratory government theory vibes at all 😂
At 36:15 you can see her name change from julianna to juliana i dont know what that should mean but it there it is
I agreed with you. Because the tape at the again says only those working in media or studio can watch the tape, which is weird when you think about it.
How rare for a VN to ACTUALLY be creepy and scary, others were usually 1 out of 10 in term of creepiness but i had no heart to rate them like that every video, but this one was solid 7,9 out of 10
Stuck in a time loop powered by a lightning strike but by the time you find out the truth its too late for main cast and the "OPERATOR" is also breaking the 4th wall just a teeny tiny bit by recognizing the viewer's existence and the "rewind" was gradually glitching out on last manly's attempts
You can recognize similar concept in exe game creepypastas where file is like 300 kb but it actually spawns a monster behind the player, like something really mundane going into silent hill level of scariness
Even the dialogue boxes looked like news motion graphics
I think it’s fair to say the dev took inspiration from Local 58.

Maybe more so than an evil tape.
nah sounds like it would be a common dog name in southern US
I've got a relative that named his dog Bullet, so Gunpowder doesn't feel weird to me (and at least Gunpowder makes some sense, given the dog's coloring).

Technically yes. We screwed humanity

I’m cracking up at the idea of someone being asked to press an elevator button and immediately flailing all over the elevator touching every surface before even getting to the buttons all the while saying, “Is there anything else I can interact with here?”
Game has a very oppressive, anxiety inducing atmosphere. Will never watch again. Stressed me out. Good work developers.
One of the last runs, the TV showed the channels ... the channel for Teleforum was T 1 2 4. I wonder if hitting those buttons in sequence in the elevator would be another ending.
ITS MY BIRTHDAY YALLLL
I noticed you missed a code. In one of the ending scenes where it displays the times the 00:00 AM flickers and changes to "T124".
Later when you saw the game was moving through the hall & elevator on it's own there were four button presses being heard, but not seen. What happens if you push "T124" on the elevator? Sounds like a secret ending?
Or did you do that part of the button sequence and that's why you said "secret?"

32:28 years of not being scared nor jumpscared at anything while watching Manly's videos lost because of my very own language, oh well😞
Another comment mentioned the Fae and thats why the horse shoe was there.

I feel like there are definitely many secrets tied to combinations of what you click, what you say, and at which point in the game you do it (am curious about what would happen if we ignore Julianna's prompt to remove the horseshoe the first time.)

Fun fact: “Cruzeiro” was the Brazilian currency before the introduction of the current one (Real). It was used between 90 and 93, which must be the period of the game.
The 90s cruzeiro is the second appearance of the currency. The first one was from 42 to 67, which is definitely not the scenario in the game.
that sign wont stop me because i cant read
Omg this one is soooo good (and im so entranced by your manly voice lol) im not even finish yet but had to come leave a comment. Its taken me almost an hour to get through the first 35 minutes. im at work and i keep rewinding it to make sure i dont miss anything!! I love it!!
