It's a lot of "And then I did the thing" with invisible walls. The protag isn't allowed to use bear mace, the protag can't stack up firewood in the tower during light. Little details like the wind speed, watching the others report in using the system, playing a zombie shooter someone installed and stopping by the diner is nice. Firewatch can be fun in games. If you don't mind a game where your main task is to observe things and spot differences. There was that game where you are a SETI observation worker and jot down observations. Most are routine.
Signal Simulator it's called. It was interesting for a while especially when spooky events happened but some stuff got super tedious like how the dishes needing recalibrating nearly every day.
Man I'd live in a firewatch tower it'd be pretty sweet. It's like a treehouse for adults and with a risk of being trapped by a burning inferno or avalanche depending. Or you know some intelligent but murderous entity in the forest. I don't think insurance covers those either.
XD literally not anyone... that situation sucks. Seems like you wouldn't have enough proof to get help until you're already dead. Wow, reminds me of many mental health systems. :')
I love how when youre in the diner you eat everything individually like a psychopath. Who gets their meal and then chugs their entire drink without eating anything else
Even if the stories aren't true, this series is amazing at exercising vigilance. It's like a hidden-object game but for intruders creeping in the background or clues of break-ins/stalking.
You’d be surprised how many cults actually do exist, even in this day and age. It’s very easy to hide in the woods, especially in a small “nature reserve” for the public.
Look up Firewatch if you haven’t heard of it. It’s basically the same premise of working at a fire watch tower, talking to another lookout, and doing tasks but with less horror.
I’m thinking that the whistling man was part of the cult, but he was trying to lure people into a trap off the trail so they could use them for rituals and stuff
A tale that teaches aspiring construction workers a valuable lesson regarding the fatal consequences of sexist cat calling..... ... obviously jking but for real; cat calling is no bueno despite its misleadingly cool sounding name.

I just realized that the casserole in bed, just like that, is probably a throwback to the first Fears to Fathom with the kid eating a whole lasagna in front of the TV, with no fork or anything LMAO I love this series, all games are both somewhat goofy ("I threw it off", "I wasn't a good driver") but also pretty scary. That first jumpscare with good ol' Billy? Nearly threw my phone to the other side of the room lmao EDIT: Also! The protagonist gets a photo of the cultists, how come no one believes him??? Like, guy was nearly murdered for taking a photo but he just... does not show it to ANYONE? Why take a photo if you are not gonna use it when everyone calls you a liar!!!
I love the lil routine/comfort tasks. Setting up the fire, cooking the casserole. Mundaun had that down to a tee, I hope more games do them cuz it's perfect for like setting up a cozy lil atmosphere to then better contrast with the horror. Also, some spoileries: Hmm. Every night, less and less towers log their report data...
I think the protag left the camera in the tower cuz he was panicked/trying to escape. His boss/the cult probably destroyed the camera before he could go back for it. But I agree that it's a plot contrivance for the _one time_ the player gets evidence he loses it.
what’s interesting to point out is that even though both connor and billy deny any sort of cult being out there, don’t forget the first interaction between billy and the player where he says “I thought you were one of them.” it’s something neat that really adds to the unease of the story.
I'm amazed of the level of detail for such a "small" game. Makes me wish there was a game like but being more like "Signal Simulator" or "Voices of the Void" in terms of gameplay, where you have to stay really several ingame days in your location, doing tasks and solving problems while experience mysterious things around you.

Someone said that the stories are/can have truth to it but obviously the incidents aren’t as crazy. Like the ex showing up at the guy’s house in the last game- but she didn’t actually intend to kill him, etc. The game is obviously exaggerated a lot and likely adds stuff because it needs to have enough for an entertaining horror game. - As well as the fact that I don’t doubt similar situations like these have happened irl, since plenty of people have experienced being stalked, having a crazy ex, and plenty of true crime stories including cults.
@chiomorii oh, im with you 100%. I'm just saying something that stuck out to me. I'm sure there some truth to every story. That one with the crazy ex actually really hits home for me

Idk why but I REALLY love the diner scene of this game. I may be the only insane person who's watched this video more than a few times just to keep as background noise. Would love just a relaxing game with diner setting like this. So many indie horror games with nice little aesthetic parts that would be the perfect relaxing game if they just added them all in one game.
I thought the hiding segment was pretty well done. Reminded me of Alien Isolation. When the cultists all turned after the flash was a great moment too. I'm wondering if things can turn out differently if you get pictures of Silas and the skull outside your door.
The fire dept. out in the woods use how hot and dry the weather is to decide if camping fires should be allowed or not. If it's a dry summer, the risk for fire increases and they don't want to risk a dunce leaving even some embers around. Meteorology usually has their own people who record detailed weather data from spots around the country. They measure a lot more at those stations like rainfall, pressure etc.
I question why devs don’t just give us a satisfying ending like “Yes after playing the game for an hour, you are rewarded with the cult being arrested or killed by police” but instead it’s always just “nO oNE bElIevEs yOUr sToRy oF a cUlT” It gets really boring and unsurprising
Because the stories these games are based on are "user submitted" by basically what I assume are redditors so they all have that same format which is why I don't consume no sleep youtube copypasta readers lol
@@ManlyBadassHero It reminds me of a lot of older horror stories (think Lovecraft), where the protagonist sees the entire scary thing, then passes out, but is still somehow just fine to return home and write out the whole experience to the newspaper or a colleague or so on.

This game has some wonderful atmosphere! Also at least let the car ragdoll us or SOMETHING! like not even the bear mace did anything. Also the knowledge of burning bodies makes different coloured smoke raises many questions
These games really take the time of a movie to setup everything and build up to the scary part. Didnt expect a fire watch tower to be one of the stories they focus on. The whistling man really reminded me of Killer frequency. Wonder why it didnt stick to the end. Beat mace would hurt like hell, anyone trying to sneak up on someone like that would need some good eye cover. Guess the real horror is in whether its real or not. Connor Hawkins would pilot an AC lol. Feels like that training video guy, likes coffee, though his eyes seem somewhat septic.
The way you kept throwing random things off the balcony like your shipment of food + supplies and then an oven dish is making me laugh so hard - I just picture the cultists looking confused or getting hit in the head from above
My cousin Rachel had to hide in the closet when a creep tried to break in to her house when she was home alone. That said she's alive with lovely kids; and I like these video games strangely enough.
man, it's weird seeing the takes of things in this time period or earlier from devs that never experienced it themselves, you get a lot of stuff like this supposedly in 2000 but using 2010+ tech because to younger people those always existed. (I mean, I know it's likely just due to the game using assets and not having an actual 90s/2000s phone and met/etc assets to use, but it's still weird to see the mix, as well as someone in 2000 having phone reception in the middle of the woods strong enough to text)
@@far2ez eh, i'd say by 2000 it was at least common to have a phone that could text, but since it was generally charged per text and outside of the original blackberry with the tiny B&W wcreen (modern-ish PDA phones and smart phones mostly didn't launch until 2005, with a few earlier exceptions from palm/nokia, but they were nothing like a modern smartphone ) maybe 2-3 words or a phone number was the kind of thing you'd send, definitely no full conversations. No isekai storyline here folks
The first thing he did was try to catch the whole tower on fire
I was disappointed Manly couldn't hit the cultist with his RV during the ending
Especially because in a former part of the series it was possible to end the game that way. They are all great though.
One thing I love about Fears to Fathom is that it includes comments to account for clearly defiant player behavior. Everything from peeing on the floor to crashing the RV has commentary that addresses it. It shows that regardless of the quality, love and thought went into the work, which helps to overlook most blemishes on the projects.

I'm amazed of the level of detail for such a "small" game. guessing its only possible to get pictures from one specific spot so probably not
looks like there's not a camera key, just a prompt when the game wants you to take one. I don't think there was an option for those two.
Kinda wished they kept "the danger of looking down the phone while driving" from the last episode
A semblance of reality on a Horror Game xD
I question why devs don’t just give us a satisfying ending like “Yes after playing the game for an hour, you are rewarded with the cult being arrested or killed by police” but instead it’s always just “nO oNE bElIevEs yOUr sToRy oF a cUlT”
It gets really boring and unsurprising

man, it's weird seeing the takes of things in this time period or earlier from devs that never experienced it themselves, you get a lot of stuff like this supposedly in 2000 but using 2010+ tech because to younger people those always existed. (I mean, I know it's likely just due to the game using assets and not having an actual 90s/2000s phone and met/etc assets to use, but it's still weird to see the mix, as well as someone in 2000 having phone reception in the middle of the woods strong enough to text)
Oh yeah I just realized the modern apple text interface makes no sense 😂
@@far2ez eh, i'd say by 2000 it was at least common to have a phone that could text, but since it was generally charged per text and outside of the original blackberry with the tiny B&W wcreen (modern-ish PDA phones and smart phones mostly didn't launch until 2005, with a few earlier exceptions from palm/nokia, but they were nothing like a modern smartphone ) maybe 2-3 words or a phone number was the kind of thing you'd send, definitely no full conversations. MMS wasn't deployed in the US until 2004 so sending full photos inline like that wouldn't have been a thing. we didn't get color camera phones until 2005.
