Honestly, the fishing style of this game disregarding the horror is genuinely a cool idea. I could see this as like a new style to something like in Stardew Valley.
Agreed, I was getting super invested in the fishing mini game despite being terrified for what came next. I'd play a game solely of the fishing aspect easily, especially if it had that catchy music attached.

Honestly, a horror game where your actions can save or fail to save a loved one who is slowly losing their mind or being corrupted or transformed is one of the scariest things I can think of.

Fishman is a real one. Just walks around the lake with a shotgun, ready to aid fisherman should they encounter any peril. Giving you news and always making sure you’re doing ok.
I thought he was oddly charming. The way he always exited via the bottom of the screen amused me. =)

i'd say it's pretty accurate to the fishing and hunting community. we look out for each other because god knows anything can happen when you're out in nature, as demonstrated by this game.
This was a legit game on its own, I'm impressed that this is only part one out of ~4.5 parts? I was totally expecting normal spooky fishing, but this thoroughly played my expectations.
Thanks, I'm glad it caught you by surprise! The goal is for each segment to be a complete and entertaining game in its own right, but also adding another piece to the mystery in the overarching story. Believe me, Normal Fishing only scrapes the surface of what's really happening.

Man, the devs really know how to hook you in. The reveal that Normal Fishing was just one of four games that you’ll have to play in the full release reminds me of how Inscryption surprised you with its setting shifts. Looking forward to the full release for sure.

Fishing and horror don't go together too often, but when they do it's a fascinating combination. I applaud the creativity of making the minigame to actually catch the fish a shmup, that's just wonderful. This was a fun time from start to finish, I'm stunned it's just a demo. Fingers crossed their plans for the full game pan out.

Oh that's pretty neat, I was initially disappointed when they broguht in the "real world" because I was invested in the world of the Lake... but they made it clear that the Lake story is real, that the story of the people being... killed and replaced by the Lake probably happened and corrupted this game cartridge.
Also I'm pleased to think you'll get normal versions of the game(s), because the fishing game was kinda fun.
It sounds like you're on board with the story, though there's still a lot more to be revealed yet!
But that's right the idea is that each of the games/segments does have a full and complete ending and alternate dialogue so you get to experience the games in their pure, "original" form!
@@thebworg So far, so good! :3 It's pretty well-constructed in retrospective, with the comments about "we/the Godfish aren't real" now making sense in the context of the characters remembering that this is just a game, as opposed to being random "spooky talk." I like that, I like the epxlanation for the weirdness within the game and the implications that it's tied to real supernatural evil outside the game.

Being serious: the pixel style is really good and you can see the effort they made with it. It feel similar with a generic something wrong with the townsfolk/wife and player is going to die in the end. It surprised me with the Inscription level of brain rebooting at the new game screen. Them smoothly changing the pov to a different art style and I felt uncomfortable with the knowing the boy playing will be in danger.
Think the real life section could be a point and click style? Just a guess. Still I’m excited for the team making the game and wish them the best with everything. Hope Manly (most likely) play the game when it comes out
Finally, a realistic portrayal of the horrors of fishing! I've got the patience for it, but I was never good at the shmup segments.

I love that the uncorrupted games are actually their 'true endings' instead of the plot-revelation being the true ending something about taking that literally is so funny to me
I really, really liked this one. At first this game looked a little disappointing with the low-res pixel art and sort of tired concept but it quickly proved itself with some engaging gameplay and some legitimately great music. Had no idea where the story was going, even by the end, and the fact that this was all essentially just a proof of concept while being a well fleshed out game in its own right was really impressive.
Ya know, haunted cartrage in the woods was not the direction i thought this game was gonna go, but the idea of your spirit being forced to play the role of an NPC in a game, of slowly realizing you had your entire identity and sense of self erased to play some canned lines for a character without even a name...
Thats genuinely a compelling horror concept. Especially if this goes where i think it's gonna go, with the spirits playing the characters in each game.
Kinda getting "Ben Drowned" meets "NES Godzilla" vibes from the story so far, especially with the connection to seemingly a real life lake (and possibly a real godfish?)
I do wonder who the wife and old lady were before. Like, the fishing kid's kinda darkly obvious, but those two are unknowns. Especially interesting since they're the two who each broke their programming first, and the game literally removed the wife when she was about to break the storyline.
I think the old lady mightve been the lady talked about at 41:53 - Trudy Goodwind. It mightve been her body in the lake at the end? There seems to b the word lake in the radio's lines

I was not expecting the music from a fishing game (even a horror subversion one) to slap this hard.
Spoiler part:
From what the NPCs say and Mr. Fishman's story at the end it seems more like a bunch of copies showed up and killed and replaced them, but now they're remembering their original's memories and freaking out.

It's cool how you can tell when Manly actually really enjoys a game. He sounded genuinely tense when he was close to losing a fish, not like in the "oh man I'm gonna have to do this all over again," but "Oh crap, I can't lose this fish!!" Like he was really getting into the fiction/ludonarrative of the game. He was having fun, it wasn't a slog, and he actively wanted to seek out every secret he could not because he felt obligated to, but because he wanted to. It makes me really want to check this out and support the dev too, that a streamer who has played so many weak indie-horror games in his time feels that this game stands out on its own without asterisks.
Anybody else notice that all the "godfish" spawn points were where those blink and you miss it corpse in the water moments were earlier in the game?

During the fish catching, the music uncannily reminds me of Spectrobes. It was Pokemon, but instead of catching the pokemon in the wild, you had to dig them up like a fossil. It was a DS game, so it worked pretty well. Kinda miss that game
God the music in this game is outrageously good. I haven't reached the credits yet but I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the music credits. I can't get over the music that plays during the fishing minigames it's just criminally good. Not to mention the visuals are top notch as well.

Dang I think this is such a great game, it's simple retro but also refreshing and brand new all at the same time... it's everything from the art, plot, color scheme, and mechanics keep me completely interested and it feels really comfy , I am halfway through watching and these twists and world building are keeping me on the edge of my seat!!!
I love when games completely change along the way, like this and Inscription did. You don't need to stay the same thing for the entire playthrough. Its so fun to just suddenly have to adapt to a different game.
Four interconnected games, made in different styles, with multiple endings? That is a big project. Really hope it turns out well.

I'm quite liking the way the people in the town are reacting to the horror elements. They know somethings wrong, they can feel something wrong with themselves, but they can't do anything about it.
Manly view on the MC being a killer is making my mind travel. Like the idea of a pshyco killer is leaving a trail of his victim in some game and the creppy pasta in the game telling how he sneak up to murder them. Thats what i am thinking after manly said that

This type of ultra retro graphic style always makes for the best psychological horror games, this was no exception, looking forward to seeing the full game.
