  • Suzuki GSXR-1000 (commonly referred as). Head Cheese Duke may have gotten a chance to ride the new Suzuki GSX-R1000R at Phillip Island - which is probably tied at the top of every moto-journo’s bucket list of tracks to ride alongside the Mugello track in Italy - but as far as consolation prizes go, getting to ride at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, is pretty darn good. My steed? Ironically enough, the 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000. While my bike may be down one R to the one Kevin rode, to underestimate the single-R Gixxer would be a huge mistake. Let’s take a closer look to why.

    With the throttle lock open, ecu remapped with changing of the exhaust system, this bike will be a beast.. It has a lot more power buried within..

    • @MikBan
      @MikBan 7 років тому +3

      ***** that is true for the stock bike.. I mentioned some tweaks that will come handy to get nearly 190hp at the wheel..

      Soo much more power. The best part is they put a huge can on it with all the emissions tech in there. Throw on a slip on and you lose weight and gain great power along with VVT. Should be awesome!

    if I did the single R, I'd have to choose black with red rims. if I went the RR route, the blac/blue/purple looks flipping SEXY. Suzuki finally brought a winner to the table, after nearly a decade of running tail end Charlie for every review. I can't wait to see them do a full liter-bike class comparison this year

    For the first time ever, I can actually say that I like the looks of a gixxer. This is probably the biggest improvement over all previous generations! It's become poster worthy, something you can park next to Ducatis and Aprilias and not feel like a third wheel. Still have a bit of way to go with some more elegant and cohesive side air vents, but overall it's a real eye turner now. I like it!

    To be fair wooden brakes can't always be fixed with SS lines and better pads. If the ratio between the master cylinder and caliper are off you may not get better feel. So hopefully it's as simple as SS lines and better pads.

    What are you guys more comfortable with, a 600 with no ABS/Electronics or a Liter Bike with ALL the Electronics. ABS, TC, Power Modes, ETC???

    • @d1sturb3d119
      @d1sturb3d119 7 років тому +1

      @chuck, that's a lovely answer! Absolutely spot on. There is no replacement for rider training. Rider aids help good riders push the envelope. They can't help bad riders develop skill.
      Keith Code's video twist of the wrist II is on youtube. Worth watching.
      @frost, comfort is subjective, its all dependent on rider skill. Personally I love a bike without rider aids. Call it arrogance or call it a test of skill, I like to believe I'd be able to handle my bike and I try hard to develop the skills needed to do so. I don't want a doubt in anyone's mind that I wasn't the one riding or making the bike do whatever it does.
      But unless you go for the earlier FI bikes, whether you like it or not all bikes come with some form of rider aids coded into the ECU. Even my 2012 CBR that comes with no aids at all, still has different timing config, a docile throttle response and long gearing to make the bike feel more well behaved. It's taken me a little bit of tuning, changing the throttle spool, changing the fueling, getting rid of intake and exhaust flaps to smoothen out response and changing the gearing to get the bike to behave like more of an animal. It's still docile but comes alive much faster. That's the type of bike I enjoy.

    • @frost2722
      @frost2722 7 років тому +3

      Hahaha why would we hash it out??? I maybe worded that question a bit funny but I was by no means implying that either bike is "safe" in the hands of an inexperienced rider. The thought just lingered when I realized a few 600s have yet to be updated in the face of new electronics and now every single liter bike is fully equipped with all of it. I've personally never owned a bike with any aids not even ABS. And I do agree there's nothing that can replace skill. I would love to go to Keith Codes school but I live in NH. I was hoping to do a track day at Loudon this summer though. Once I get some decent leathers

    • @frost2722

    • @VitorGTC
      @VitorGTC 7 років тому

      I experienced this last weekend at the track...I ride a cbr600rr without any abs or electronics and I testet the new R1 at the track...the R1 felt super safe on the brakes but the power is a bit scary if you are not used to it...its really fast, and for me it just makes riding a bit too physical. So i would say a 600 or maybe a 750 is all you need to have fun on the track...and it rider aids are not that important on the track for a 600 , but something like the new R6 should be also great. The liter bikes are the ultimate upgrade for experienced riders that are already bored of riding a 600 , and can handle the extra performance

    • @frost2722
      @frost2722 7 років тому

      Nice what track? I ride a 600rr to man. Such a well rounded bike I love it. That's interesting though I feel that the electronics are to make up for the fact that it's an absurd amount of horsepower for the average rider to handle lol. I rode a new R1s recently to but wasn't able to stretch its legs even a little bit. That's awesome you got to rip one around the track.

    A quickshifter isn't a premium option these days, it's a standard. Pretty disappointing they would leave that out on the R model, but then again I don't think I'd ever buy a gsxr. Good bikes, not for me though.

      Jessa Phillips Since I began riding street coming from an offroad background.
      I've always had an issue with brand colors the sport bikes used.
      To me.
      Honda = Red
      Suzuki = Yellow
      Yamaha = Blue
      Kawasaki = Green
      KTM = Orange
      Everything else is an illusion.😁

      Jessa Phillips People like different brands but also like different colors, what a travesty. Have them arrested for liking different things. Not our fault you don't know much about bikes

    You could tell these guys from this magazine really, I mean really struggle to give Suzuki any props. And even when they do they use the words," in comparison to," some European bike. Be it the aprillia, the ducati or BMW. When the reliability alone kicks ass. They complained about the power in the past,now they got more. They complained about the electronics, well they got that also. OK so now what?... The frigging brakes!!! FUUUUCKK!!!!! Of course why not. They must find something to complain about after all. Someone needs to tell me what these magazines have so much against the Suzuki brand that they feel they MUST shit on it in every review.

      Shen Hui Wang lame emission and noise pollution laws pretty much force this, lamely. I don't want to be completely obnoxious on the road, but it is starting to get ridiculous to be so restrictive on motorcycles. Yeah they need to be cleanish, but riding a motorcycle is good for the environment anyways. But yeah you could kill someone with that ginormis exhaust

    I really am pulling for zuki. Hell my track bike is a gixxer but they're so far behind in the liter bike field in terms of what comes stock that when it's time for a new track bike it'll be one of the other japanese brands... The LCD screen is not better than the analog. The electronics are still subpar. Chassis still isn't that good. smh
