2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Review

- Suzuki GSXR-1000 (commonly referred as). Head Cheese Duke may have gotten a chance to ride the new Suzuki GSX-R1000R at Phillip Island - which is probably tied at the top of every moto-journo’s bucket list of tracks to ride alongside the Mugello track in Italy - but as far as consolation prizes go, getting to ride at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, is pretty darn good. My steed? Ironically enough, the 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000. While my bike may be down one R to the one Kevin rode, to underestimate the single-R Gixxer would be a huge mistake. Let’s take a closer look to why.

Th bike actually weighs 42 lbs. That exhaust is 400lbs
its funny cause its true.
😭😭😭😭😭
That's pretty funny :-)
Nicholas S 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂
I never thought Id say this, but the Suzuki looks best in red! ^^
You forgot to mention it has a fuel gauge, first ever on a superbike.
when are you gonna test ride this??
Was there a fuel gauge on your CHINESE SCOOTAH?!
life changing
Small addition but really makes a good impact for commuters
Honda cbaaaah one thousand fuckin doubble ahhhhhhh
With the throttle lock open, ecu remapped with changing of the exhaust system, this bike will be a beast.. It has a lot more power buried within..
***** that is true for the stock bike.. I mentioned some tweaks that will come handy to get nearly 190hp at the wheel..
Soo much more power. The best part is they put a huge can on it with all the emissions tech in there. Throw on a slip on and you lose weight and gain great power along with VVT. Should be awesome!
True..
***** the zx10 and the new gixxer makes same wheel hp now stock. Check out fast bike magazine channel. They did the dyno tests.
Yup that's right..
Red color looks the business!
Business indeed! i wish i was rich though
I've had my Fireblade for 6 years and getting bored of it, so I think it's time for a test ride of all the latest models.
I wish they made the double r in that red color it is so beautiful
Over the years ive never really been a big gixxer fan but man Suzuki has definitely nailed it with this new GSXR 1000 definitely a bike I’m going to be trying out this year when i upgrade
Which country you brother
@@ramachandranramachandran2840 uk 🇬🇧
that exhaust looks like a second fuel tank
rattletop just change it n shut up
I actually lost it. But from your response I guess its stuck up your ass. lol
if I did the single R, I'd have to choose black with red rims. if I went the RR route, the blac/blue/purple looks flipping SEXY. Suzuki finally brought a winner to the table, after nearly a decade of running tail end Charlie for every review. I can't wait to see them do a full liter-bike class comparison this year
This is the first time I'm saying this... But the 2017 1000 looks fucking awesome! I think I'm in love with this new look.
Yep! I am more of a yamaha guy but this year suzuki killed it.
kananisA75 I still hate their headlight... And the exhaust looks kinda silly, too
Compared to the previous ones? The headlight looks great with the rest of the bike. and who the fuck keeps stock pipes anyways?
Neil Kee no, I never liked Suzuki's headlight for their GSX's. And to answer your "who the fuck keeps stock pipes anyway?" question, well, most people.
you would keep the stock exhaust on a 1000cc sportsbike?
For the first time ever, I can actually say that I like the looks of a gixxer. This is probably the biggest improvement over all previous generations! It's become poster worthy, something you can park next to Ducatis and Aprilias and not feel like a third wheel. Still have a bit of way to go with some more elegant and cohesive side air vents, but overall it's a real eye turner now. I like it!
Very good and honest review - keep them comming
That red/black combo is lit 🔥
is it just me but does the red look awsome.....
red bitter123 I'm a Yamaha fan and ride an R1 but that red on this bike is sexy as fuck , then again I've always thought gixxers were good looking bikes from 2004+
Johnny Blaze always wanted a gixxer
Just you. Looks cheap compared to the 04-08 R1 red.
I test rode this beast and fell in love.
i really like the monochrome cockpit display. it reminds me of a casio-wristwatch from the 80s. extreme cool and great readability in sunlight i guess
Can't wait for the 600 & 750cc, please make then Suzuki!!!
What a beautiful machine!
man that bike looks good in red.
The red looks great . Suzuki are great bikes, like all Japanese bikes imho.
RED!!!😍😍
Thanks. I always wanted to know the difference between these two models. ✔️
The design of the GSX-R 1000 2017 is like of the Comet!
😂😂😂😂
really looking forward to the shootout
That exhaust looks yuuuuge!
I wonder, how come whenever they do a review of something on a track why the lights aren't taped
would love to bike to still be wide so its more plush on street. but it gets hammered on track for nit being skinny to allow maneuverability so kudos to suzuki for answering the fans.
i think i know less about the bike now. great video
Didn't think the red version looked so good!
Guys please make 2017 sbk shootout as fast as you can.....we are all waiting for it.....and please dont forget an all bike drag race.
It looks amazing but that exhaust is hiiiideous...
Florin Orlando stop bitchin, everybody swaps em out
Blame the eu
Florin Orlando Suzuki already knows buyers are gonna stick a slip on exhaust there
RIP Nicky Hayden :(
Nitesh Vaity RIP
Whoever hit him on a bicycle in Italy needs to be thrown in prison!
it was actually nicky's fault, he had earphones, ignored a stop...the point is he's not with us anymore and no one will bring him back. Forever in our hearts though #69love
are you hungry for likes ?
stfu
Red looks sick ☺
Please review new Street Triple
Are you guys going to review the Suzuki GSX 250?
Meant to ask this numerous of times since I am not english speaking person to the begin with: where comes/originates the calling - leader bike? Sounds weird to me somehow.
I wish they kept the integrated turn signals in the front & rear.
To be fair wooden brakes can't always be fixed with SS lines and better pads. If the ratio between the master cylinder and caliper are off you may not get better feel. So hopefully it's as simple as SS lines and better pads.
Damn, that exhaust looks... amazing 🤢
I tried it, top ! Fantastic
4th best selling car in Japan. Suzuki cars! Suzuki Motor Corp. Love the new 1000!!! Thanx ... J... Busaman
Nice colour
What kinda helmet are you wearing cause that thing is pretty
the next WSBK best bike
I purchased a 2007 Suzuki GSXR SE brand new in 2007 ,thats the year the GSXR1000 was bike of the year
shown s in my profile photo even thought that was ten years ago its still one of the best looking GSXR 1000s made so far
the rear muffler on the 2017 model is way out their dosent suite the bike at all
only complaint... is the alpha valves rsttle. you can adjust them but the rattle is there. oh and to reset the service light just put it in dealer mode. no need to pay dealer if you do your own service.
No mention of the Hp or torque?
It has those
Does this have C mode, B mode and A mode?
Where is the exhaust pipe? I can't see it...
Notificafion squad
let us know when does the superbike shootout is comming, i cant wait for it
Raúl Blanco García mcn superbike shooout
Troy the gentleman👌
Looks good in that grey and great in red. Shakes off that over-familiarity of fine-looking but now boring standard Suzuki blue.
a black one please !
Woooow red is dope
What are you guys more comfortable with, a 600 with no ABS/Electronics or a Liter Bike with ALL the Electronics. ABS, TC, Power Modes, ETC???
@chuck, that's a lovely answer! Absolutely spot on. There is no replacement for rider training. Rider aids help good riders push the envelope. They can't help bad riders develop skill.
Keith Code's video twist of the wrist II is on youtube. Worth watching.
@frost, comfort is subjective, its all dependent on rider skill. Personally I love a bike without rider aids. Call it arrogance or call it a test of skill, I like to believe I'd be able to handle my bike and I try hard to develop the skills needed to do so. I don't want a doubt in anyone's mind that I wasn't the one riding or making the bike do whatever it does.
But unless you go for the earlier FI bikes, whether you like it or not all bikes come with some form of rider aids coded into the ECU. Even my 2012 CBR that comes with no aids at all, still has different timing config, a docile throttle response and long gearing to make the bike feel more well behaved. It's taken me a little bit of tuning, changing the throttle spool, changing the fueling, getting rid of intake and exhaust flaps to smoothen out response and changing the gearing to get the bike to behave like more of an animal. It's still docile but comes alive much faster. That's the type of bike I enjoy.
Hahaha why would we hash it out??? I maybe worded that question a bit funny but I was by no means implying that either bike is "safe" in the hands of an inexperienced rider. The thought just lingered when I realized a few 600s have yet to be updated in the face of new electronics and now every single liter bike is fully equipped with all of it. I've personally never owned a bike with any aids not even ABS. And I do agree there's nothing that can replace skill. I would love to go to Keith Codes school but I live in NH. I was hoping to do a track day at Loudon this summer though. Once I get some decent leathers
And yes twist the wrist II is the shit
I experienced this last weekend at the track...I ride a cbr600rr without any abs or electronics and I testet the new R1 at the track...the R1 felt super safe on the brakes but the power is a bit scary if you are not used to it...its really fast, and for me it just makes riding a bit too physical. So i would say a 600 or maybe a 750 is all you need to have fun on the track...and it rider aids are not that important on the track for a 600 , but something like the new R6 should be also great. The liter bikes are the ultimate upgrade for experienced riders that are already bored of riding a 600 , and can handle the extra performance
Nice what track? I ride a 600rr to man. Such a well rounded bike I love it. That's interesting though I feel that the electronics are to make up for the fact that it's an absurd amount of horsepower for the average rider to handle lol. I rode a new R1s recently to but wasn't able to stretch its legs even a little bit. That's awesome you got to rip one around the track.
Personally Id have one of these or an R1 over any "exotic" including Ducati Panegali etc.
A quickshifter isn't a premium option these days, it's a standard. Pretty disappointing they would leave that out on the R model, but then again I don't think I'd ever buy a gsxr. Good bikes, not for me though.
I had the 03 and 05 GSXR1K..And the 06 GSX1300R HYABUSA..
Why cant they put a great looking exhaust on these bikes stock..And insurance sucks ass on these supersports..Only reason I started buying the naked 1000's..But damn,Id love to go back to the supersports..
Still the best 5yrs later for everyday use, even cruise control made for it now...simple electrics/dash that lasts(listening Honda?),and still winning in the road racing(streets),let's see Michael Dunlop win the Senior TT next month on it again? 2018 a better buy, brakes sorted by then(discs and calipers).
"JUST the electronics and suspension..."
So pretty much what's important for track riders..
idk.. my opinion, for a couple more dollars you can get the zx10r, which is a way more complete package and better bike.
Bruce Johnston yeah but no body really buys these bikes to ride on the track we buy them for our daily use or when riding with friends
I love the design of this bike but wtf head lights imo.
look it at that MUFFFFLLEERR!!! LMAO!!!
Those turn signals must of been an afterthought.
anyone catch themselves starring at the blinky red light when he's standing on the track if not sorry for getting u to
Single R save your money ...: the single R is all you need handles awesome
a good no bull appraisal
Well... Michael Dunlop just won the Senior TT with the new GSX-R1000R. So disappointed in Honda right now.
Where is CODA?
I stopped watching the minute you said no quick shifter. Its 2017, how do all liter bikes not come stock with quick shifters?!
not a fan of the single headlight up front. looks outdated while all the other bikes have moved on in styling with dual headlights.
not to mention a pipe thats bigger than panzer canon from WW2
This bike has fasest lap in 4 different magazines in EU destroying comp.. SO its for real also had the best acceleration the only thing Ppl are bitching about is the brakes 👍 But thats okei essy fix
Why don't Suzuki just make one bike one model with all its bell and whistle. Keep it simple and clean for the consumer.
Om Troy tinggi badannya brp?
That muffler tho'..........
Tactical Priority yepp... euro4 dba emissions... the fireblade muffler looks miles better though x)
It doesn't matter, who keeps the can stock on a superbike? No one...
Who cares. They literally made it so simple for you to lose all the emissions tech and throw a slip on without the need for a full system exhaust.
wait.. "siahaan"..? on his back name..
I just need to know which is the best road bike
All of them are great bikes. You can't go wrong with any of them really.
Probably the blade..but this aint no joke.. More power down low so it has the right engine for a road bike.. 2017 Blade has all the power up top.. but that is more comfortable and flickable...so..
Mik Ban love the look of the new blade too, that black and red color scheme is beautiful. I heard they were revamping the gsxr 750 as well
INFINITYCL I was just curious because I heard the R1 isn't that comfortable for tall riders and gets hot, not panigale hot but noticeably uncomfortable.
Ogre Doug really? That's great.. If they can up the capacity a little and come close to the power of say 959 panigale then that would be great. Yeah the blade looks gorgeous especially the non sp version (to me).. But this Red gixxer has grown on me..
I have a serious problem (and maybe its just being nitpicky) with it being available in that color of red... its so similar to Honda's red the bike could be mistaken for a CBR1000RR... I just miss the days when almost all suzukis were blue all Hondas were red and all yamahas were yellow... I actually saw a video of a guy yesterday that painted his R6 in green and it looked like a kawasaki
Jessa Phillips well take a look at the front, no way you will say its a fireblade then :p
Or the tank which is much rounder than the honda. My 13 cbr 1k has much better lines
Jessa Phillips LoL ! it says suzuki on the side don t worry
Jessa Phillips Since I began riding street coming from an offroad background.
I've always had an issue with brand colors the sport bikes used.
To me.
Honda = Red
Suzuki = Yellow
Yamaha = Blue
Kawasaki = Green
KTM = Orange
Everything else is an illusion.😁
Jessa Phillips People like different brands but also like different colors, what a travesty. Have them arrested for liking different things. Not our fault you don't know much about bikes
The problem is the Master cylinder and lines.
Wszystko SUPER ale za małe rury wydechowe ja czekam aż będą wielkości motocykla wożone za nim na przyczepce!
Is it me or does the new Gixxer look a lot like a Hyosung.....
Richard Wentz its just you.
Richard Wentz Hyosung copied Suzuki. Ever thought which came first?
You could tell these guys from this magazine really, I mean really struggle to give Suzuki any props. And even when they do they use the words," in comparison to," some European bike. Be it the aprillia, the ducati or BMW. When the reliability alone kicks ass. They complained about the power in the past, now they got more. They complained about the electronics, well they got that also. OK so now what?... The frigging brakes!!! FUUUUCKK!!!!! Of course why not. They must find something to complain about after all. Someone needs to tell me what these magazines have so much against the Suzuki brand that they feel they MUST shit on it in every review.
I guarantee there is a recall on this bike after a while lol
Where is the exhaust pipe? I can't see it...haa
You could land a helicopter on that exhaust.
is nobody going to say anything about that MONSTROUSLY LARGE exhaust? It looks so out of place on the bike.
Two words; SLIP ON.
Shen Hui Wang
yep. who's got a stock one anyway...
Shen Hui Wang lmao
Shen Hui Wang lame emission and noise pollution laws pretty much force this, lamely. I don't want to be completely obnoxious on the road, but it is starting to get ridiculous to be so restrictive on motorcycles. Yeah they need to be cleanish, but riding a motorcycle is good for the environment anyways. But yeah you could kill someone with that ginormis exhaust
I really am pulling for zuki. Hell my track bike is a gixxer but they're so far behind in the liter bike field in terms of what comes stock that when it's time for a new track bike it'll be one of the other japanese brands... The LCD screen is not better than the analog. The electronics are still subpar. Chassis still isn't that good. smh
it's the cheapest bike in the class. Nothing else matters. This bike will sell like crazy!
😂
I like analog tac
this review feels like guesswork
Hi mr siahaan I'm simamora can you bicara bahasa?
This is the cyclops bike. cool !!
Is that a potato gun or the exhaust?
O design lembra muito a CBR1000RR
Why does it look so old already?
No one makes red colors on sports bikes/cars like Italians.
how did we go from short beautiful stock exhaust systems on the 06 gsxr 1000’s to this hideous excuse of a exhaust .
New Hayabusa? or just facelift ?
🤘😈🤘
