I think the only reason Big Ed has been challenging or calling out people to "fight" is because he realizes that his popularity is plummeting. It's a huge thing that kids should have unconditional love from their parents. Maybe when they're adults and do weird/bad things sure, but children definitely need it.

As somebody who was a part of a toxic relationship, it was so hard to get out. Even through all the lies, abuse, and cheating. I just had an extremely low view of myself and would rather go through all that than be alone. Eventually it got to a point where I couldn’t do it anymore, and now 6 months later I’m finally starting to do better. But leaving that relationship and the next couple months was the hardest time of my life, and I wanted to go back so bad. But I had good people in my life to support me and help me from going back to her.
I'm so glad you're free of that. I had something similar, abuse, lies, manipulation, then stalking when I left. It is really sad to see Liz not fully be able to break away, but I understand it. I had nothing to put on my resume except for "stay at home mom", which limited me to taking a minimum wage job that cannot even cover the rent of a studio apartment. Financial abuse is so insidious. The abuser will make you feel like their motivation is to take care of you, and that can be considered a very appealing and "traditional" value.
My abusive relationship went the other way. He expected me to work harder and pay all the bills. Growing up dirt poor and working hard all my life anyway, it took me a while to realize.

Also, if he's going to a therapist, he's not listening to them. Or they're crap. You're taught to own your mistakes when they're yours, and see when others have honestly done you wrong. I've learned to understand when my PTSD is triggered how I might act out, and to explain and/or apologize after. But also not tobe so hard on myself when it happens. It's just me trying to deal with past trauma from my mother and my childhood.
I agree with the OP; a therapist can only work with what you bring to them. so if Big Ed lies to them, and they don't watch TLC, then they may not have correctly diagnosed his issues, or he may want to be working on some issue that is not one of the major ones he should be working on (from out perspectives). therapists are not wizards; if the patient is not ready to change or is in denial or lying, then nothing will change and the patient is wasting their money. I think Big Ed only goes to therapy so he can talk about going to therapy as a conversation device or to deflect blame for being a bad person.

Much of which I didn’t know because I did not sleep with every ex I’ve ever had. Just because I had boyfriends before him, he thought I was promiscuous.
My ex-husband also refused to let me work so when he decided to leave me for my sister, I was left with zero job experience at 31. I had nothing to put on my resume except for "stay at home mom", which limited me to taking a minimum wage job that cannot even cover the rent of a studio apartment.
Financial abuse is so insidious. The abuser will make you feel like their motivation is to take care of you, and that can be considered a very appealing and "traditional" value.

It's just me trying to deal with past trauma from my mother and my childhood.

I agree with the OP; a therapist can only work with what you bring to them. so if Big Ed lies to them, and they don't watch TLC, then they may not have correctly diagnosed his issues, or he may want to be working on some issue that is not one of the major ones he should be working on (from out perspectives).
therapists are not wizards; if the patient is not ready to change or is in denial or lying, then nothing will change and the patient is wasting their money.
I think Big Ed only goes to therapy so he can talk about going to therapy as a conversation device or to deflect blame for being a bad person.
Got to love how Ed’s taken “I statements” from therapy as “I am the only person that matters” and not about taking personal responsibility for your feelings and actions.

I had a co-worker who lived in a very similar situation like Liz's. My interactions with her was well over a decade ago, but I still think about her and hope that she was able to break free from his craziness.
