The reason why I personally don't think that EVERYTHING is fake is that Liz is very believable. The emotions on her face are so real, and when she cries, it's not just fake tears, she has that nose reddening going, those grief muscles... She would have to be an insanely good actress to fake it all. Many professional actors struggle to find that fine line between too little emotion and overdoing it, and she treads it perfectly

My husband is from Indonesia where foreigners can essentially never own a house on their own. You can lease a house for 30 years but it’ll never actually be considered the foreigners because “Indonesian land should be owned by Indonesians” so if there was some kind of law making it easier for her to obtain the house than him, makes sense for it to be in her name.

I was in one when I was 14, he was 16. It was emotionally, physically and sexually abusive. It was behind closed doors but it was obvious to people around me that I was not doing well. If I were in Liz's shoes I would have ended it a long time ago. If it was on TV then it would never have happened.

Those of us sharing our stories aren't saying that some of it is scripted or reshot - its pretty common knowledge that all reality shows have the participants retake lines, exaggerate things, etc. We're trying to say that we believe it is an abusive relationship, that TLC is manipulating and making worse, if that makes sense. The abuser (ed in this case) doesn't think they are doing anything wrong, and by being on the show feels they are being validated in their actions.
It kills me how Big Ed is detective extraordinaire and remembers the fine details to everyone else's fucked up relationships, using his knowledge of theirs to deflect from his own shitty behavior in his relationships, yet when it comes to holding him accountable for what he did in his own relationships he 'doesn't recall' much of anything and if he does it was 'misinterpreted' and if it wasn't then it 'wasn't that big of a deal'. Aka the narcissists prayer.
He is a genuine, prime example of a manipulative narcissist.

Big Ed must keep Liz on drugs because there's no way you could live like that in front of the world and be sober for a second.
If you noticed when Ed meets Liz, he always offers her alcohol and in their separation, Liz said that one of the reasons for their separation is heavy drinking, which is why he does not let her give up alcohol because he knows he is unbearable without alcohol and she always seems intoxicated . I think this relationship will destroy Liz even more and may end her in suicide. I read in previous comments that she has a tattoo about suicide. She is emotionally and mentally unstable and should seek therapist for her childhood trauma, past wounds and damage caused to her from being in toxic relationships.
Liz has low or no self esteem. It is sad to see her keep going back to that useless waste of time, space and oxygen. But it's her life.

Maybe it's because I can't imagine any reason why she would genuinely want to spend any time with that revolting little man, but when I read that what I get from it is; "Yes, you're welcome in the country, you ain't comin' to my house though".
It's open to being read as welcoming, which will avoid any hassle with rejecting him.
Maybe I'm wrong, but that's just how I read it :P
