I agree with them, people with an0rexia aren't encouraged to eat less so why should an ultimately unneeded surgery that could cause problems to your mental and physical health be encouraged? It's so often that even after the surgery, the person later gets more because they still aren't happy with how they look because ultimately, it's not about how they look

The aspect that Ken talks about how they down play the transition from country to country. Mary came to America and lived with Ken for years, and then Ken moved to Australia so Mary can be closer to her family. The sacrifices that Ken and Mary made when moving so far from where they grew up definitely plays a big part in these transitions. On another note, as someone who lives in Michigan, Michigan is grey and gross most of the year xD soooooo I can relate to Jasmine's reaction
It's not a huge sacrifice as someone who has moved to multiple countries, the bit about "isolation" is also pretty bullshit since Ken literally talks to his friends and family from back home every week. In the case of Mary and Ken, they also moved to two Anglo countries that have rather compatible cultures and didn't have any language barriers, so he seems to be really playing up his situation
How MUCH of a sacrifice could be debatable..
I guess it depends on your connection to the people and things you leave behind.
If you don't feel anything about moving places, I guess it could be a good thing 🤷♀️ since you don't have to deal with being homesick and stuff like that.
You realise some people love their families and their families love them right? What type of person are you to completely fail to understand that yes, the simple act of leaving your family can be one of the hardest things in the world? Talking to someone and actually being able to see them in person when you want too, being able to spend holidays with your loved ones... Huge sacrifices. Mary moving for a relationship is a big risk, what if it didn't work out? You can't prepare for that the same way you could prepare for moving to another country with a language barrier. Do some work and learn the language. You don't have to be fluent but it's a whole lot easier than risking it all for love. @@marw9541

As someone from Michigan, we have 6 months of gray days for our 6 month winter. Our other seasons are 2 months long. So Jasmine wasn’t wrong in the beginning or really anywhere when she talks about Michigan. She is 100% correct. God did not intend for people to live here and I don’t understand why I’m still here.
This is the time of year when I walk around saying that constantly- why do I live here?

Basically same here in Finland. 6-7 months of winter, a week of summer(rains 90% of it) and a few months of spring and fall

I came to Japan with my partner to wait out COVID back in 2020. We were only supposed to stay a few months, but it's been nearly 4 years. I'm grateful to have a safe place to live, but it's been difficult to not be an independent person. While I know Ken is talking about how the Americans don't understand what it's like to give up everything to go be with their partner, this reminded me that part of my mental health struggles here is that isolation and dependence that are an inherent part of my experience. It's okay that this is hard. Thank you for this reminder.

As someone who lives in Michigan I can say Michigan definitely struggles with being bi-polar with no meds when it comes to our westher so for her to say "God didn't intend people to live her but they decided to do it" can confirm! And as much as we hate the weather we still stay guess we just in a toxic relationship with good old Michigan 🤣🤣🤣

Mannnn as somebody who was born and raised in northern Michigan and never wants to leave despite having visited elsewhere….I feel like there aren’t a lot of people like me, and although I am sad she doesn’t like Michigan, I am not surprised. Look at where she is from. Very different lifestyle. And it gets even more different the more north you go! It’s quiet round these parts….but beautiful, everybody is friendly, and expensive food and housing hasn’t crept up on us yet. It’s a cold little paradise and I love it here.

Thanks ken for being the first person to say Happy Birthday to me. Ngl I've been extremely depressed and under alot of stress because I have one more month before my 5 yearold daughter and I are homeless. I'm trying to put on a brave face, and not show my daughter how much stress I am under but I'm failing, last night she just came up to me and hugged me for a really long time gave me a kiss and told me that I was ok. I then burst into tears, I couldn't help it. Anyway thanks for the laughs! I appreciate it.

I’m from South America and married a Michigander and people assumed I was in for the green card and obv people downplayed the impact of leaving everything, and acted like I was using him and I was like- sure, I’m using a dude who’s addicted to WoW and won’t move out of Michigan lol. We still ended up married for almost 20 years and we split up cause he didn’t wanna leave Michigan. I still have a lot of love and respect for him though. I just cannot live in Michigan lol

I was born in L.A. and lived in California a long time until I moved to Florida. My father was from Panamá, and I spent 3 months there when I was 20. I’m old now. I’m fine never going to cold places even to visit anymore. What Jasmin said about Michigan, I’ve said just thinking about going somewhere cold. It’s not for me.

I left everything behind to be with my husband. It was a wild ride. I've been in the US for 7 years and I still don't have friends. I've had jobs, but the culture is still so different that I'm having a hard time adjusting to whatever people are saying and doing. Despite being here for quite some time. I do love my in-laws though, they are great.

Hey, Michigan is pretty great. You can live anywhere and be only 30 minutes away from a really cool lake to hang out at. Also, every season has things that are fun and beautiful to do. I don’t want to live anywhere else.
