  • I headed into the Cairngorms to visit the Lairig Ghru and the pools of Dee. Passing through the Chalamain Gap, I realised there was something happening in the area, with helicopters scouring the hillside and mountain rescue teams making their way up the paths.
    The Cairngorms National Park is the UK's biggest, home to some of the highest mountains in the land and some of the most extreme terrain and weather conditions. A wild, rugged and remote place but with the reward of some of the countries most impressive views.

    Great work capturing the wind. Every time if been there it’s been like that. I’ve always walked up from Rothiemarcus which avoids the Gap! Can’t wait until we’re further into warmer weather to get back again 👍

    Nicely filmed and narrated as always Kris. It's an amazing place and you forget you're at Corbett height at the top of the pass. That boy was lucky, you always fear the worst when someone disappears. 😬

    Brilliant mate what a place even in the most perfect conditions it can be daunting up there glad the missing walker was found hopefully safe and sound. I first really heard of the Chalamin Gap when they three poor souls got caught in that avalanche you mentioned in 2013 and even when there is no snow i always brick it a wee bit walking through it as you know now they boulders are massive! Thanks for sharing this film Kris the Lairig Ghru is indeed massive but just wait until you head up to Braeriach and look down into it its a picure and a half mate! Cheers Kris take care and thanks for giving "The Devils Point" its correct name 👏👏👏 wee pat on the back sir!

      Thanks Peter! I know what you mean about those boulders, some of them are a little loose as well. Wouldn't want to be caught in the path of one of those! I have to say, I'm looking forward to a trip up Braeriach some day and maybe a wee stay at the bothy! 😁 No problem Peter, thanks again for watching!

    The Lairig Ghru is one of my favourite places. Glad the walker was found safe, but it’s a reminder of how the Cairngorms can be tricky at times. Seemingly benign, but a vast plateau which can turn a good day bad, very quickly. How long was your walk from car park to pools of Dee? I haven’t done it crossing the Chalamain Gap yet.
    Cheers

    • @ScottishMountainGoat
      @ScottishMountainGoat  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, It definitely deserves respect. I've stuck the route in the description. 16.6 km there and back from the sugarbowl carpark, 901m ascent. I may as well have gone and bagged a munro 😁 Cheers Leon!

    Absolutely fantastic work again sir! I really loved this as someone that's been a bit feart of the Cairngorms since reading 'Cairngorm John'. Definitely not an area to be taken lightly. Thanks for showing us the Lairig Ghru - it looks spectacular! Did you know that the name may come from Lairig Ruadh (Red Pass)? :)

    • @ScottishMountainGoat
      @ScottishMountainGoat  2 роки тому +1

      Cheers Scott! I did read that, but there seems to be alot of confusion about where the name came from (more so than usual). It makes the most sense though for sure.

    Cairngorm is actually “blue mountain” in Gaelic.

    • @ScottishMountainGoat
      @ScottishMountainGoat  Рік тому

      True. The Gaelic name of the cairngorm mountain range as a whole however is "Am Monadh Ruadh" which translates as red rounded hills. I guess whoever anglicised the name didn't care much for the color 😄
