I can’t believe you left out that Gilear is packing more meat than a butcher. Now we know how he keeps getting women.
HUNG like a HORSE
wait whatt
@@lukenaidoo208it’s cannon in one of the final episodes of sophomore year
@@lukenaidoo208Yeah, it's canon, baby!
He is the chosen one!
I loved it when Pok Gutgack said "This effect requires GPU acceleration" it really moved me
20:17
Riz getting dragged into the mirror by Baron is still one of the creepiest scenes I've ever seen in a live-play. The cast is laughing and having fun, but it is a DARK moment that really kinda sets the mood for the rest of the Nighmare King's arc.
I rewatch that scene so often it's SO GOOD
All everyone truly needs to know is Gilear's life developments
"yogurt of the month club"
“There’s one person you need to know, and that’s Gilear”
One important detail left out is that, after the adventures in sophmore year, Gilear became so confident as to declare himself worthy of living in a house. We are very proud of him.
They should make a recap that's just gilear
Im just gonna say, this series is the reason i got into DND, and its so fun thank you fantasy high abd dimension 20!
Same.
Aw. This is nice to hear. DND is like modern folk tradition and I love to see and hear how it gets passed down.
Ironically, a lot of other people got into D&D because of Critical Role.
As for me, it was Dimension20, Brony D&D, Heroes & Halfwits and HarmonQuest that got me wanting to play again
This is where I started too, long enough after it first aired that I had lots of campaigns to catch up on. I finally did though, and then watched all of Critical Role C1 in the last ~3 months. (450hrs!) CollegeHumor roped me in, never had any interest in D&D before, but this group of improv comedians was the gateway drug!
I started with Dungeons & Drag Queens, but this is the one that solidified it for me.
Y'know with how quickly Kristen begins doubting her faith, its a little easy to forget that she was Helio's chosen
Like, blessed by her God, his chosen warrior to spread his name
And she loses all faith in episode 5, at the latest
Once she left the insulated cradle of her religion and met some other people, yeah.
to be fair, it's a miracle helio has /any/ devoted people.
Dying, meeting your god, and finding out he's a useless douchebag will do that to you.
@@joemama-zm4de no, sadly it makes sense. Because in the show a god is what their followers make them. So if his followers are conservative, racist, religious zealots then over the years that’s what helio became. My guess is that for senior year they will need to reset all of the gods similarly to how they did with Cassandra so that the followers who have exploited and warped the gods can be properly punished.
@@georgehoyle8797 i was more joking that helio is the most lame god you could possibly choose, but yeah
2:47 this was the moment Brennan became my favorite DM. It was so out of nowhere and set the tone for the all the rug pulls he's done since. Now I have the perfect excuse to binge season 1 again XD
"The price must be paid, eh Mr. Gibbons?"
"I'm sorry, what?"
*BLAM*
Weird thing was I was fine with what was going on. The first and second episodes were okay, but when he shot Mr.Gibbons and Himself. I was just like, hell yeah, I'm now super invested!"
Chungledown Bim, or Bimothy, was not very pleased with Fabian after the failed attack. His curses and promise of revenge left Fabian rather shaken 😂
And he is still out there.... waiting for his chance.... to Sh*t in his mouth.
Hands down one of the greatest DnD names of all time. I copied the name for a halfling rogue of mine named Chungledown Sim, or Simmy. So fantastic. Thank you Brennan Lee Mulligan :)
HE SAID HE WAS GONNA S**T IN MY MOUTH
My favorite Pok Gukgak line is at 20:17 when he says that thing about GPU acceleration . . . . iconic
There truly wasnt enough "are you my dad" in the recap 😂
This didn’t even mention that Adine is THE ELVEN ORACLE
Or that Kristen was helios chosen one
Yea or the entire subplot of the harvestmen
It's almost as if this is just a recap meant to entice people who want to learn the deeper lore. God forbid there are curve balls or surprises they want to keep hidden for people to enjoy if they watch the campaign.
Pok getting Kalina from old health potions is something Brennan as Pok posits in the episode "My Green Heaven"
It gets skipped over because Pok is immediately going into Dad mode as Rizz labels Kalina a "Seeeex plague"
Theres been more gold spent in this campaign on reviving a level 3 npc than in most campaigns, total, across all games ever.
Clickable timestamp for the Sophomore Year split: 10:20
Aedine's whole family naming convention kills me. Could not be more posh 😂
20:16
"This effect requires GPU acceleration"
When I see this, it sends me to the afterlife too
What does that even mean?
@@braxtonjustice7055they were probably trying to use a fancy effect in the program used to make this video but didn't have it set to use the GPU
Lou's hiccoughing 'what the fuck is happening' always sends me so hard 😂
21:10 - you know you’re a real loser when you listen and go “wait that’s not right.” (Kristen punches Heilo, not Sol)
Reminder: Chungledown Bim has been statted by Brennan and Lou
I can't wait to see that come full circle
Ironically, my recap has just been rewatching both seasons. I'm on the last episode of sophomore year. Super excited to see what we get up to in Junior Year.
Hahaha I've also rewatched both of Fantasy high's season recently.
Ever since I discovered dropout and finally finished all of the D20 seasons, my free time has literally been re-watching them again and again. I've already watched them all twice, and have just started a third rewatch of Starstruck Odyssey.
I mean these seasons are unironically better and higher quality than most TV shows and movies out there.
Bro took “Everything you want is on the other side of fear” and RAN with it, amazing
One of the craziest coincidences that has ever happened to me is that I watched all of freshman and sophomore year this past summer, which happened to be the summer between my freshman and sophomore years of high school. And now, junior year is coming out exactly two weeks before my 16th birthday. I feel like I'm growing up with them 🫶
I really hope the Night Yorb really is a fundamental part of season 3 and not just a joke, I would LOVE it if such a goofy joke was made into the foundation of a whole season.
SPEAK NOT OF THE NIGHT YORB!!!
Having seen Brennan run The Bad Kids through the Forest of the Nightmare King is how I knew Critical Role EXU: Calamity was going to be amazing. Freshman Year was amazing, Sophomore Year was incredibly fun, with some deep, emotional storytelling, and Junior High is going to be truly incredible, I know it!
I got into DND because of Fantasy High. It was also my introduction to Dimension 20 and what made me subscribe to Dropout. IM SO EXCITED FOR THE NEW INCOMING SEASON !!!!! Thank you for creating these amazing and wonderful worlds and stories to give us an escape from this reality.
No mention of gorgug and his dad is insane
this show is the OG, so proud to say ive been a subscriber on the dropout app since day 1. Brennan actually gave me the courage to not only play but DM! Now i love doing it and all my friends love the characters i bring to life
Love how they do a recap, and I’m over here rewatching both seasons all over again to have it fresh in my mind for season 3 😂😂
Love the recap but I feel like it's strange their truest nemesis is only mentioned once, briefly - Chungle Down Bim! Seriously hope he shows up for Junior Year
I think the Boys Night one shot was technically during junior year so he already did.
But seeing him come back again to haunt Fabian and Fabian overcoming his fear and maybe defeat Chungle Down Bim completely would be amazing!
I will say, while it was never super explicitly confirmed, we did know how Pok got Karina disease because he hypothesises that he got it from a faulty health potion in “My Green Heaven”. So, while Brennan fully confirming it in discord is nice, to say that we would never know from the show is simply wrong. Other than that, great recap! Cannot wait for the new season to air!!!!
Thank you, I was just about to comment the same
The moment in season 2 where the bad kids are on the boat flying through hell is what inspired me to DM because it caused me to make a one shot called Railway Robbery which basically asked "what would a train robbery western movie look like with magic and other D&D stuff". That then sprawled out further into "okay but what would that whole world look like" and now we're years into a campaign.
Watching this as though I'm not already on my second rewatch of both seasons since Junior Year was announced 😂
ROEMANCE PAERTNAER!
Do you think we’ll need to watch The Seven before this season? It looked good but we never got around to it! 😅😩
you likely won't. I bet that at most, it could be an off-hand reference or something. it's a really fun campaign though!
its sooo good, but you probably don't need to
Probably not, but it was pretty nice, you should give it a try
You can probably just watch it in between episodes.
It’s so much fun and I definitely recommend checking it out, but I think it won’t be crucial to understand Junior year when it comes out.
Fig is basically indirect siblings with everyone in the party except Gorgug because her three parents hooked up with everyone else's.
Absolute icon Baron of the Baronies
Hey, I didn't see anywhere I could post this so I decided to leave a comment here. I just finished watching The Legendary Rick Perry and the Art of Dimension 20 on Dropout, and my god I loved every minute of this documentary. The film crew really showed just how much work and dedication Rick and his team put towards Dimension 20, and I cannot thank all of the crew and everyone else who made this documentary for allowing us to get a glimpse at the behind the scenes process. Thank you all, and I hope we can continue to support Mr. Perry and his fellow compatriots in their efforts to elevate what is truly a wonderous show that has touched the hearts of many. Thank you Mr. Perry, thank you team, and we can't wait to see what amazing creations you gift us next! ^.^
I want to second this!!! I loved that beautiful mini doc. It was so so lovely to watch!!!! Specials like that remind me why I love dropout and how incredibly special it is as a platform in entertainment. Rick Perry and his team are amazing. It was nice to spend that time learning about how much it takes to create the insane, gorgeous, immersive visuals we get to experience
Surprised they didn't mention Kristen's literal creation of god at the end of the first season. So excited, I already remembered everything, but watched this on Dropout and here.
Also, anyone else notice at 20:17 the "this effect requires GPU acceleration"?
Season 3 starts…
“Man, that Night Yarb was a bitch and a half to get rid of. Anyway-“
“….now to take care of CHUNGLE-DOWN BIM!”
I’m in the middle of my full rewatch, just got to the middle of “The Friendship Section”
Bold of you to assume I’m not rewatching all of them at my own leisure 😝
Fantasy High was my gateway drug for DND, Dropout in general and so many other delightful things. I’ve loved every campaign since, but the first season will always have a special place in my heart.
To Brennan I just want to say that you're an amazing DM and I love everything you do both for the story, the characters and even the combat scenarios. I hope I can bring even a fraction of the energy you bring to your players to mine.
And to the players, you guys made great characters with great role play potential, and you managed to make them react in a realistic and believable way to the information they were given from the NPCs. Absolutely beautiful work everyone.
Can't wait to see what Junior Year brings.
It's so great to relive those nat 20s from Kristen again, gave me goosebumps
god i needed this recap so bad
Jawbone did not need a better life per se. Jawbone was awesome and compassionate and was always trying to help people manage their pain responsibly.
20:16 This effect requires GPU acceleration
This is narrated like a watch mojo video and I love it
Fantasy high is the reason I got Dropout. Love all the content!
Freshman year was my first introduction to dnd and now I'm playing in two campaigns and dming a third. Almost all my friends are people I play dnd with ❤ thank you, so excited for senior year!!!
Fantasy High was the reason I got back into D&D after 20 years break (I played in my teenage years), and I am so grateful for it.
I just finished my own epic re-watch of all episodes that took place in Spyre, but I made sure to include Pirates of Leviathan and The Seven!
Technically Ragh isn’t a hireling 11:16, I love the show and can’t wait for junior year
Dropout needs to get their editors some GPU acceleration :3c 20:16
thank you for the recap, I personally had a hard time watching s2 because of its Live streaming nature and also it didn't feel right. Now im all caught up
Yeah the crosstalk and diversions made it a bit hard to follow. I don't know how Critical Role fans do it, each episode is like 4 freakin hours!
This recap was perfect! Can't wait for Junior year, HOOT GROWL!
HOOT GROWL!
HOOT
GROWL
HOOT
GROWL
HOOT
GROWL!
First off, I'd say Elmville is like a mixture of the 1980s and 1990s.
Secondly, since Junior Year is on the approach...how long until Gorgug and Zelda go steady?
Thirdly, we all know that Critical Role has made books based off of THEIR characters and campaigns. Who else but me would want to see some Fantasy High reading material?
Lastly...I've watched the first season of Fantasy High several times and yet, I STILL can't figure out how Bloodrush is different from American football
It is football i think
Brennan has said before that he would love to do source books, but doesn’t have enough time because of all the work he does for other seasons of the show. With new DMs coming in we can hopefully see something of that nature soon.
@@emmakane6848 That's true
People like Abbriya Iyengar and even Matt Mercer have assumed the DM chair before. So, who knows who else might come in next.
I'd love to see Spencer Crittenden be a DM for a campaign, considering he played one for HarmonQuest
I would think after their Senior year season, there will probably be enough material that D20 could commission someone to create a source book, but don't expect it before that.
@@z-beeblebrox Right, that's true
This needs to be a staple with all new seasons, thank you!!!
Lets all hope fig doesn't disguise herself as any random adults in order to trick other adults into making out with a minor by pretending to be their actual partners again
ayda will singlehandedly save so many innocent people from becoming sex offenders
Well, I think that part of her character arc was resolved in sophomore year, so no need to worry
She’s getting her kisses in with Ayda now, so I think we should be safe on that front
The only thing my husband knows about this campaign is there very bare minimum about Gilear to know kind of who he is, and that he dies. A lot.
When watching the latest season I would call out "Gilear died" each time he did. Hubby stopped asking "what" a long time ago. lol
I did have to explain Gilear's shining moment though. Gilear deserves that much seeing as the last time my hubby did say "wat?" all I had to say back was "sad man, warm yogurt?"
Why wasn't Gorgug's whole "are you my dad" side plot mentioned at all?
I love watching this as if I haven’t watched fantasy high (and every other d20 campaign) more times than I can remember
This was such a helpful refresher, thanks Carlos! We even got the shrimp party ha.
the way a giggle escaped at gilear's intro hahah.
Don't forget how Kristen invented their new god.
Notification squad 📯
Also hyped for junior year. I've been a proud owl bear since day 1 when these were still being posted on UA-cam before dropout.
Hoot growl my friends, hoot growl 🤘
I didn’t need a recap, I’ve been rewatching episodes from both seasons like crazy, but I absolutely still watched this whole thing ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I’m so excited for junior year!!!!!
The power of being first view is astounding
20:16 “This effect requires GPU acceleration” I don’t know if this was intentional but it got a good laugh out of me
Carlos could read the phonebook and I'd be enthralled.
so glad you made this, i was looking for a recap just the other day and couldnt find any
can’t believe you left out the prom kiss
Hell yeah you guys and this show have pushed me creativily and are the reason I play DND and I've learned so much about storytelling from Brennan and crew, thank you! This is needed, I want to be fresh for the new season (I wonder if the seven will tie in again)
thank you for this, i really had trouble watching the second season because of the live format
This is my new favorite youtube video of all time. My 6 months worth of hyperfixation put into a 20 minute video, with unreleased art, to show to my loved ones to convert into new fans. I LOVE IT!!!
Carlos did a fantastic job narrating!
"They who shall not be named" came seemingly out of nowhere. I was so hyped when I first saw it lol
Awesome! Now do Pirates of Leviathan and The Seven!!
I NEEDED THIS SOOOO BAD THANK YOUUUUU !!!!!
So grateful for this recap! May still rewatch the first 2 seasons 😂
Ahhhh!! The premier is on my birthday :) couldn't ask for a better present.
I’m so invested in this storyline 😁 Can’t wait for junior year! 🥳
I’ve been waiting years for this
LOVE IT SO MUCH, cant wait to see more
This series is the reason I got my Dropout subscription😭😂❤️
haahahaha the CORN CUTIES, take that Brennan lol
I will watch this here again! I was never so well informed about the story!
Actually, thank you for this. I didn't have time to re-watch both seasons, so I was going to just watch the very last episode of SsN2. This saved me time.
This is great for new D20 fans like me! I tried watching Freshman year but there's just so much content!
Very helpful, thank you Carlos!
Thank you for this. I was having trouble staying with sophomore year due to the "live" nature of it when I'd gotten used to the domes editing style
Love the updated map! Much nicer than previous one. :) Husband and I cannot wait to make Saturday nights our Junior Year Watch Party nights
I don’t think I ever knew The Shadow Cat/Kalina was HepC!?!?! That’s crazy!
I NEEDED THIS, Thank you
Best let's play or whatever I've ever seen. Was so glad to find Dimension 20 via Fantasy High a few years back; I've been a subscriber to Dropout for years. Great content on there.
Finishing up sophomore year now in anticipation, it obviously works out but I just HAD to say somewhere:
When The Bad Kids first get to the forest of the Nightmare King, and Kalina starts attacking Riz & Kristen from inside their bodies? Kristen's decision to Greater Restoration RIZ instead of HERSELF has to be the biggest mistake I've ever seen in all of DnD.
Rogue Goblin with no idea how to make the tincture to sage them all > Cleric with revivify and ability to make the tincture??!??!?!?!??! In. What. World.
WOAH I LEARNED SO MUCH MORE!! nice secret lore drop!!
Very excited for season 3! I have no idea where they will take it, I'm nervous for our Intrepid Heroes!
The cubbies will forever be my favorite NPC's and I truly want them to cause more chaos
Honestly, all of this made way more sense watching the show. If I hadn't, I would be hopelessly confused lol
