I have no idea because Cruel Melody is a masterpiece. My best guess is that the subsequent albums departed too much from what they established with CM, although they were still good in their own right. That along with the fact that there hasn’t been any new material from BLB since Lotus Island.
This type of music was on its way out of radio stations, at the time. It got some play time, but it was riding the edge of some 00's ideas that had been overplayed. It's aged well today, as a 00's metal song.
I completely agree, it's also crossed my mind. Wes's voice over Trent's genius!? ( not taking anything from Wes, Cruel Melody was a catalyst for me and still continues to be.
Gotta love Wes letting out his Trent Reznor influence . Didn't expect a great song but that industrial metal vibe on this hits hard than anything he does in the latest albums of Limps.
I like what Wes is doing here, and I know people may not agree with me, but he is a good guitar player. So he could be playing the guitar too and create more power .
This was an ABSOLUTE hidden gem of the late nu metal era. Seriously. If you've never heard Cruel Melody you would be doing yourself a favor by giving it listen.
I’m as a songwriter, both composer and lyricist I have a super high standard for what I consider great lyrics. Even though heavy music is my favorite style, most of its lyrics kinda suck. They basically just straight forward communication that rhymes. “by the time I get home you are already stoned you turn off the tv and. You scream at me. I can’t wait for the day when I leave this place”. Lie definitely stands above most in its genre. It early expresses a relatable feeling and situation but it’s done in such an intentionally brilliant way that you are only meant to relate to it if you are intelligent enough to understand. Genius.
in the style of NIN we need bands like this back that died out n Wes needs to bring this back. not annoying like Freds voice in LB. played the hell out of this album back in 07!! Loved others than Lie. Coward, Mesopothamia, etc
i wish all the modern metal bands recorded with this production technique, it would actually sound killer. modern music is so processed and messed with it all sounds like little clicks and white noise, this music actually sounds like a band, like a pissed off harley taking off from a red light, not like R2-D2 working a cash register
Can we highlight the fact that this is even industrial rock/metal, which is supposed to have electronic elements? There's a way to make music sound sound human, even industrial metal. The human touch is one of the largest factors in making most music sound good. When you start auto tuning and quantizing, that human touch is gone, and its "perfection" sounds boring. Take Killing Joke for example. They're credited with inventing most industrial rock and metal, and their music at the same time is so tribal and raw.
Man I have to fight in my band to keep the soul in it. My guitarist is hellbent on making everything sound "perfect", where I feel like it should sound like us playing music.
I gotta be honest, I always thought Wes kinda created this super creepy character in Limp Bizkit m because he was super self aware about his kinda goofy, not super handsome looks. And in the early 2000s, as 15 year old a round faced fat kid, with a big clump of clay for a nose I honestly really respected for it… but holy hell, this performance, I mean I’ve never given it to a guy before but I would definitely give it to him. He is just so sexy in this. I love girls but I’ve always suspected that my fence may not have one way hinge but watching and listening to Wes just grabbed my fence and gave it a hard push in the other direction. So Wes thank you for opening up my mind with your unique approach to music, your incredibly emotionally intelligent lyric and your hot bod and face. (This is not a joke. Really learned something about myself.)
Josh Freese. He is amazing. I saw him play live with Nine Inch Nails and he was phenomenal. His drumming on Judith by A Perfect Circle is unbelievable.
Wait, you guys knew this song but did not know Wes Borland was the singer? I guess I find it hard to grasp because I remember waiting for this album to come out. Always loved Wes.
two summers ago i had to opportunity to meet wes. I hung out in Limp Bizkit's dressing room while wes was putting together his costume. I was a lucky little bastard :) hes my hero
fist time hearing this, i like what i am hearing, a more interesting sound then he had from his old band. I'm willing to listen to a second track after that.
I can understand the lyrics. Chorus has a nice textured yell that's still clear and not screechy. Music is mixed well. Good shit guys. Can't believe I just now stumbled on it.
I'm living a lie And it's not the best thing for me But anyone and everyone is gonna hear another story I'm building a house Of murderous intention To keep it all from coming down I've gotta focus my attention 'cause confidence is key When violating trust I'm making sure that I believe I'm doing what I must Which is attempting to kill The little boy inside But as hard as I try... The child will not die Now I'm burning alive, just like you I'm irrelevant And I'm living down in the shit I follow these pigs around But I never get used to it 'cause they keep building and building Their feculent franchise I wish I could see this filth Through someone else's eyes 'cause ignorance was bliss But now I must adjust These animals, they operate On jealousy and lust I'm taking back what was lost And I will not be denied I'm crawling my way to the surface outside Now I'm burning alive, just like you
Wes was easily the best part of Limp Bizkit. The guy is definitely talented
He holds more talent in one finger than Durst possessed at all.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Fred was the voice of the band and also has one of the best voices in metal.
In my opinion John and Sam are equaly good. Bizkit has great musicians.
I thought Otto was descent
True I can hear his influence in limp bizkit now I heard the legend doing his own thing
This is fucking brutal. How wasn't this more well known?
I have no idea because Cruel Melody is a masterpiece. My best guess is that the subsequent albums departed too much from what they established with CM, although they were still good in their own right. That along with the fact that there hasn’t been any new material from BLB since Lotus Island.
@@zenvultra4457 I think might have also had something to do with the fact that Wes was definitely more well known for Limp Bizkit
Wes sounds like the hatechild of Fred Durst and Trent Reznor.
You have a weird definition of brutal.
This type of music was on its way out of radio stations, at the time. It got some play time, but it was riding the edge of some 00's ideas that had been overplayed. It's aged well today, as a 00's metal song.
I didn’t even realize this was Wes singing for a second. This is awesome.
What a great song, I love it! I put it into my "Shellshocked Radio - Recommendations" List: ua-cam.com/video/DN9JeTQdMKg/v-deo.html Very well done!
1:08 The moment when you think “here it comes” knowing something heavy is about to happen but you had no idea how hard they go.
its my favourite part in the song. it’s so expected but then your like woah there’s no way that just happened
Wes Borland is one helluva vocalist for being known as guitarist!!! We all love you Wes!!!
Black Light Burns was so criminally underrated
I didn't know Wes sings, he's got a great voice
He did backing vocals in Limp Bizkit
I wrote a model composition for Wes with Groove Pad using Techno Serum sound kit
He has another band called big dumb face
Yeah he is really talented
SHIIIT! a decade to find this song FINALLY!
That guitar is the sound of early and mid 2000s that's been missing for so long. Those were the days.
This dude kicked me in the head during LB moshpit in 2018... Best head kick i've ever had
Haha maybe you are crazy
Lol! Oh man, this comment...
I guess he has to break stuff lol
in Hamburg?
@@danielstephens6193 just one of those days
This sounds like if NIN and Stabbing Westward had a baby.
Jason Hamilton more like a miscarriage
I absolutely love BOTH of those bands I hope they are still doing things I would love to hear some more stuff from them
Tt Tt Sounds like you need your diaper changed. Better call your Mother.
Reminds me of Gravity kills
Don't compare this horseshit to NiN
Good song by a underrated band
Aron lewis loves wes borland . Not . This is a good band of borlands . 1st album is the best .
Cruel melody is one of the best albums of all time. Like just straight up.
so true, i am still to this day mourning that this band stopped
@@ottoback5375 Tis a shame
The bridge and outro riff is completely fantastic. One of my all time favorites. Wes is such a unique riff writer.
I just wish he were playing them. Man I've loved watching him play.
I've always liked Wes Borland; but, never checked out Black Light Burns. This is my first song of theirs, on my first listen.... This is pretty good.
feels like 90's manson, NIN and few others! I love it!!
Hint of Korn too
Wes Borland is way more than just Limp Bizkit. This man is very creative with his rhythms and usage of unique sound textures on the guitar.
This guy is my spirit animal/angel.
2020 and still rocking. Such a great song.

Sounds like a song that belonged in Queen of The Damned
Jay Bojorquez much of this stuff was on the Underworld soundtrack. So yes basically.
Dude you nailed that one.. It totally does have that same vibe.
Wes Borland is, by far, THE BEST LIMP BIZKIT GUY, and he proves it by making this kick-ass music, with this awesome band
Wes should make a song with Reznor, that would be amazing
He (wes borland) turned down guitar spot with nine inch nails to rejoin limp. Also turned down touring guitar for a perfect cirlce
+Aaron Cody what a fool
And a short stint with Combichrist
I completely agree, it's also crossed my mind. Wes's voice over Trent's genius!? ( not taking anything from Wes, Cruel Melody was a catalyst for me and still continues to be.
If he did it would sound exactly the same.cause I'm petty sure that is Trent reznor.
Love that bass in the chorus. So gritty and just diggin it!
This song and the whole Cruel Melody album are a blast!
Another under rated band from awesome guitarist..
3:06 That fill is sick!!!

His guitar tone in limp was 🔥🔥 and sought after

New BLB coming June 2018 apparently. Recording it after he's finished his next solo album, specifically because he said he'd never do it again.
Paul J. V.P. I'm with u on that.

Looks like Brandon Lee's crow in this video
Jon Carlton.
I was just thinking this could have been a hard version of the band that Brandon Lee's character played in, in The Crow.
Thats what I thought when I saw this
Lol, just like my thoughts
Cruel melody is the best album Wes has ever made, also better than any limp bizkit Album. I wish he would do more of this style.
if the whole album was on this level...We love you Wes! Bring us another one! Big Dumb Face FTW!
Who is here in 2021? 🙈
