The first person to find a typo in one of my sketches can buy me a coffee. I already found one, sigh. DT #6 is sloppy, it doesn’t represent the scenario properly. Sorry about that one, folks. Let me know if there’s anything I can clear up for you.

Being a BB user for me the most important thing is that it's so immediate and intuitive to get something going in seconds

Very cool video, would you mind sharing the vocal sample with us?

You’re saying that you use the BB for sequencing external gear. That’s odd since I always thought the Digitakt (or Elektron devices in general) are superior to anything else when it comes to sequencing. Since I’m just deciding between the DT and the BB it would be interesting to get additional details about that decision. I currently have an M:C and I like the sequencer - what I’ve seen from the BB in that regard is not convincing … but maybe I’m missing something?

In terms of midi sequencing, the DT has more features than the blackbox. The DT is like a midi sequencing Swiss army knife, (although everything has its limits)
I like the blackbox for sequencing chords and melodies on hardware synths. The blackbox has a touch screen piano roll-style sequencer that you can use create up to 16 sequences per project, on up to 16 channels.
I find this handy because I like to visualize my melodies and chord progressions, at times.
When sequencing chords on external synths with the blackbox, the polyphony is limited only by the polyphony of the synth being played. On the DT, you get up to 4 notes per step.
Digitakt will allows you to compose in odd time signatures, if you've got the inclination to learn how. the Blackbox is basically 4/4, 2/4, and 2/2 only.
Last year, I challenged myself to cover Norwegian Wood, using the Digitakt only. It's a simple enough song to play on piano, but it is 3/4, and this sloppy performance ( ua-cam.com/video/qQt7-QDDMco/v-deo.html ) took me about a week to work out, (nights after work).
If your goal is specifically to use a piece of hardware to drive harmonies and melodies on a few external synths, and you typically work in 4/4 time, and you don't specifically need the ability to do a little bit of midi automation on those synths, blackbox could be for you.
if your goal is to go deeper in the world of Elektron, and you want a sampler that will also handily (although a bit more cerebrally) sequence some external synths, consider the digitakt. OR OR OR - consider the Octatrack.
If all you really want is a sequencer for more outboard gear. Squarp Pyramid or Hapax might be worth looking into.

@@shankiphonic Thanks for the detailed explanation, that makes a lot of sense IMO. My usecase is a bit different, but it’s very helpful nevertheless.

Hi! is you BB slave to the DD? I'm having trouble syncing those guys, you midi din seems to be connected on MIDI OUT of the DD, wonder if you would give me a hint if you got this working? Thank you so much!

Did you figure it out? Yes, I slave the blackbox to the DT clock, mostly.
Is your DT transmitting clock? You need to activate that.

How is it with the recent 10/2021

I’m don’t believe either of the latest firmware updates to the digitakt or the blackbox made any major changes to what I focused on here.
However, blackbox 1.9+ firmware does have LFO’s now. (At the time this was filmed, blackbox had no LFO’s, and I mentioned it)

@@shankiphonic one thing i was curious about was I know they mentioned there's "midi sequencing"now but since there wasn't before I wasn't sure if that was relevant to you or not and how it was.
