Oooh that’s really nice how you can use different midi notes for different drum sounds from the same track! Combining the Syntakt and Blackbox, they seem to cover each others weaknesses super well. Great demonstration!
Thanks! Helpful indeed to find a video on such a specific topic. I've been contemplating getting a Syntakt to use with the Blackbox. I'm not gonna lie: hiccup free pgm change would be really sweet. Still pretty useful and in terms of just getting a wide sound palette with a good sequencer I'm sure they complement each other well.
Great, I never considered doing that by locking PC... I have my Blackbox in the cue to C/D inputs “loop” on my Octatrack, but I’m really underusing it! This opens things up alot, thanks! To avoid the PC lag there has to be a way to use the parameter lock and First/Not First functions of the Elektron sequencer... I have to try that later... If this works like I imagine it might, then my Digitakt might be on the way out...
Sweet! Yeah I haven't tried combining it with the First / Not First conditionals... from what I have tried, it hasn't been a problem to send the same PC message over and over on each pattern playthrough, but I imagine some synths might take issue with that. One issue with First / Not First though, I think you have to actually fully stop the pattern and press play again to get them to trigger. So if you just pause the pattern, they don't trigger...IIRC.
@@minimal.camera Well... here at work they frown upon jam sessions during the work-day, but I can't wait to try it out later... I don't remember doing a pause with the first/not first set up, but that's another thing I'll have to check out... The Black box was my first new sampler after the ones I had in the 90's, Emus and Yamahas with a MIDI pedal keyboard my later with guitar synths (the keyboardist had Akais), and it really should be my only sampler... but I know that won't ever happen! I'll let you know how the experiment goes...
Nice coverage of the potential of this combo. What are the orange MIDI DIN to TRS converters that you have plugged into the Syntakt? These look very handy for minimising cabling bulk.
Could you use the 4 midi tracks on the digitone to sequence 4 poly sample tracks on the 1010blackbox? Then control the midi pattern changes with another Elektron box? Can it run 4 8note poly sequences at once?

I didn't know Blackbox would respond to program changes. Gotta try this with my Digitone!
