Helena is a understated actress she's been in many box office films but never given the star light she deserves it butcher of Baker Street and many others rolls I like her because she not your typical Hollywood actress she very versatile
I think I've become a Helena Bonham Carter fan...just by watching this. I've of course seen her in several other films, but I'm loving her as Anne. She's perfect!
I think she played it very badly. She looked bored. Nothing like the sparkling witty charismatic Anne. She was very confident, charming, flirtatious and highly educated and accomplished. . None of these qualities are shining through here.
henry holding his night shirt up like a skirt and his joy at ann'es first letter are just excellent scenes and acting this is a top notch production and film application.
LOL to the scene of Henry running and screaming although I most confess that would be my reaction if I was the one getting a letter from lovely Helena =D
"Anne...have I somehow offended you?" hahah.... er... yeah. Henry is such a sad case. He's always reminded me of an overgrown child who can get away with anything and he knows it... and it doesn't bring out the best in him. So much power is a baaad thing.
That letter Anne wrote to the king is very far from the real thing. She tried to let him down gently. She never said anything about the bracelet and sent all his gifts back, saying that his tokens of affection frightened her, and not wanting to incur the enmity of the queen. She rarely replied and I believe tried everything to get away from the great royal stalker, hoping he would give up if she ignored him long enough. It did the opposite.
Kylan Disher Yup. He was a germaphobe. Would abandon the city at a moments notice when there'd be news of an outbreak. And he'd only travel with the bare minimum of courtiers and staff.
The real Anne Boleyn was sparkling, witty and vivacious. We see none of that here. This monotonous wooden drone would never have attracted a king, or all the other men at court who were pursuing her.
And that was part of her downfall. Henry looking back on his life, I want to say it was Chapyous who he confided in, said Anne had been thoroughly corrupted while in France. And it disgusted him during their marriage.
@@KenyanBunnie ha ha.....what man is disgusted with the sexual adventurousness of his wife ? Henry dredged up everything he could think of to blacken her character while appearing saintly himself.
I dislike the portrayal of Ane. She constantly looks frightened and out of her depth. The reality is that she was very confident, charming, flirtatious and witty. None of these qualitites are shining through here.
But history states this as true...I have invested in all the written historical works...this is authentic!!!Wolsey was at a point in time, wealthier than the King...and Henry has known no other father than him...
Little Miss J Except Anne never thought her head would be on the chopping block. She thought he'd divorce her or annul(?) the marriage and she'd be moved to a quiet secluded place to live out the rest of her life. Similar to what he did with Catherine. But I think her being so outspoken, quick to anger, never knowing "her place", jealous, etc, really was her death sentence. She knew Henry was an asshole, narcissist, obnoxious, vindictive, etc, she knew who she was marrying. She was probably a narcissist as well, no? I guess it was so hard for her to look upon her life and realize the way she'd act would be an issue sooner or later.
Hindsight is 20/20. Anne would have thought herself safe...the king did not execute women for paltry crimes. Henry was still beloved of his people at that time.
Well, actually, maybe the fact that he's all powerful on one hand, but is actually extremely fragile on the other (his love/lust for Anne Boleyn makes him that way)
It is very difficult for me to se their 'romance' as a lovestory, burned into history for good, because there were so many victims along the 'love' road, so many tears and sufferings, prayers in vain, and an abanded unhappy rightfull Queen, left to die slowly. Men at court who faced death, and a horribel way of getting what ones heart desire. Henry was an evil sick King, who left a very bad legacy to come. Anne lost her head, because she did not deliever what it was al about, a son to the throne, if that is love, I should prefer hate.....

Helena has the perfect face for any historical roles.
coralarch She made a very innocent Lady Jane Grey!
and she is a very versatile actress too!
a shining star in the mist of dark times
henry's running scene is so hillarious!!! haha

helena is so good in this movie as she was in harry potter
Ray Winstone is surprisingly hot as Henry VIII.

King Henry himself manipulated others and threw tantrums like a spoilt little boy when he didn't get his way!
In reality, King Henry would have been the first to run away from the city. He had a known terror of sickness while he did not have an heir

Ok we get that

Her looks are enough, but I agree this wasn't HBC's performance
A shining star in the mist of dark times a beacon of beauty and a smile that can melt the heart a laugh that stays with you forever
I was a 17 year old closeted gay lad when this came out first. That "Duke of Norfolk" guy was my guilty pleasure.
Mark Strong has been in a lot of very good movies. Yet it's our friends in the North people remember him for. I saw him on the underground once.

Agreed. I am not too crazy about this portrayal of Anne either!!

Where can I get this movie so I can watch on my big screen all nice and clear. No skipping parts. Not on Amazon Video or Netflix.
The actor who plays her uncle is so hot
Who's the actor playing Cromwell? He played the Eastern Emperor Threlfall's Constantine had assassinated in BBC'S Rome.
Ha ha, weird, but you're right... something about him in this role... Can't quite point out what it is. :)
If Henry was pursuing hell I won't even bother to pack my bags I get out the country and never come back if I value my head

In reality, Henry wouldn't have stayed anywhere where there was plague. He was something of a hypochondriac
Well, actually, maybe the fact that he's all powerful on one hand, but is actually extremely fragile on the other (his love/lust for Anne Boleyn makes him that way)
What year was this version made in?
2003
this has more than 8 parts. This only covers Anne Boleyn. It does not cover wives 3 through 6; You can order it via netflix.
There is "Henry VIII Sean Bean" which covers another part
does this follow the Shakespeare play?
There is no play by Shakespeare about Henry VIII. What kind of play could be written about the Queens father ?
*lmao* 6:02
hmmmm....toughy but i'm gonna go with yes lol
I know I was Lol 2. :-D Guards running after the king. :-D

Love got her the crown...hate got her disconnected. Her choice of playmate was a bad one (not sure about her options though)
why were they running from the rain?
4:15 - 4:31 LOL!!!
+SoDezzi Yes, it's wonderfully OTT ,isn't it?
Who was really king here? Wosley just ordered him around and he took it. That's far from the picture of Henry that I have read about.
Agree!
@blairw1994 ok thanks!
Are they screaming plague is that why the king has to leave?
@jursee33 they're running from the plague ;)
yes
King Henry8 was a simp
