I think that area is most likely my absolute favorite place to catch sheepshead...and I especially love taking my kayak out and catching them. I came from catching sheeps on the Georgia east coast and using live shrimp was foreign to me, but again, that area and that method is now about my favorite. GREAT VIDEO ....THANKS
@@CaptCollier Yeah, it ain't so bad with a pedal drive and now some battery power. Paddling used to suck worse though.. just go mostly around the closer ones when the water ain't too ruff. But a couple miles into a bay usually ain't that bad. There is another spot on the other side of that bridge that usually produces some good ones too. Lots of old wood around there for them too load up on.
I watch a lot of fishing on UA-cam and ur videos started piping up on my list which I'm glad it did u should have way more subs I watch every video my favorite fish to catch is sheepshead trout and in fresh water crappie
I was down in Alabama fishing for the first time a couple years ago. too windy to go offshore so we fished around that exact spot on that rig. I got broke off by something big that never gave me a chance. Seems like we should have dropped shrimp up next to the pilings! we were jigging as we drifted by. Thanks for the video, next time I know something else to try.
You ever try short shank jig hooks ? Worked for me but I am a northern walleye fisherman. So I don’t know any better caught a lot around the icw around foriada with a lot of good luck.
Enjoyed watching your video you using light tackle. Looks as if you needed a rod with just a little bit more backbone. What was you're set" Wasn't that the ExxonMobil 63AB rig? Have you ever fished, just for a laugh, a tiny 2' one piece pocket rod? what a blast I put a Penn 2500 on this rod and caught snook, red fish, and sheepshead.
Thanks! And I believe I had the shinano ultegra 3000 or 4000 with 7ft Shimano teramar medium fast. I would agree when stepping up the tackle but I do enjoy the fight and bend in that pole with a lighter setup. And yes I have a small 3ft ugly stick rod that I plan on busting out in one of my future videos haha
What kind of weather pattern are you looking for when you decide to go fishing? Or are you going when your schedule allows you as long as its not raining and not too rough?
Right now I am pretty much just going when its calm because its hard to fish them rigs when its rough or if the current is running real hard. Towards the end of February ill be watching and waiting for the water temps to rise, that's when they head to the offshore rigs and structure to spawn. Thanks for watching!
I use the billy goat hole launch or “cut off” launch at jimmersons on the west side of the bay around dauphin island. Not sure about the east side of mobile bay, I think there is one in wolf bay and also around fort Morgan. Thanks for watching
@@CaptCollier i just have a 23 lagacy but on calm water days i will go 50 r so miles out but mostly because of single motor and fuel capacity.Good luck maybe i will see you out fishing soon
You didn’t come here to listen to me talk, lmfao straight to business, what was that rig you said you had on your line, I think I heard a knock rig, but I’m unsure

Thanks buddy, and yea it is what it is, I’ve seen up to a dozen boats on top of each other at this rig in the summer time haha
Great video! I'm hoping to get some boat maintenance done today and be down there Sunday morning chasing convicts.
Thanks brother! And good luck, sunday is looking pretty, hope you get em

If you don’t mind me asking, how did you find this video? I’m Trying to optimize pushing my videos out to a broader audience
Awesome video!! Great editing also!!
Thanks man, one day you can come with me and show me how to fish
Hoping to get some sheepshead in my boat soon! Great footage...subscribed!
Thanks I do appreciate it. I hope you do!
Great fishing. I never thought you could get that close to a structure like that.
Thanks! And yep nothing against the law about fishing close to the rigs. You just can’t get on them obviously
Great net job
Haha thanks! Definitely helps to have someone assist in the netting
What’s up dude! I’m in Fairhope- let’s fish!!!

Awesome video I love fishing for sheepshead. What hooks are you using for the sheepshead and pound test line?
thanks! 15-20lb braid to a 20-25lb floor leader is my usual go too and I typically use a 1/0 gamakatsu octopus hook.
Good job
Take me fishing

Great video, what time of year do they chill at the rigs? looks cold?
Thanks! And they are there year round but gather in more numbers in the colder months January through April
Is your knick name Sheep? It should be!😪
Lol no it’s not, but it can be. I love catching them
@@CaptCollier Hey Sheepy. What size hooks do you recommend. Long shank? I've seen J hooks bent offset.
Might be moving to loxely what’s the best launch to use to get out there?

I know people eat sheep head but are they good?
Oh yea one of my favorites. Pretty white meat
What size boat do you fish looks to be about 24
It’s a 22ft sea hunt bx. It’s a bay boat, but I take this joker offshore more than most people take out there deep v boats haha

How far out is that rig
It is 3.5 miles from little billy goat hole launch
Do you do trips for sheepshead
No not at the moment, I dont have my Captains license yet to legally take people out, but hopefully by the end of the year I will be able too!
@@CaptCollier hurry up then... lol love catching those things..
You didn’t come here to listen to me talk, lmfao straight to business, what was that rig you said you had on your line, I think I heard a knock rig, but I’m unsure
Lol l. A “knocker rig”. Just a small egg weight threaded through the line before you tie your hook on.
Do you have your house marked on Google maps?
I dont. Why do you ask?
@@CaptCollier I found a spot near Tom Johnson Rd, Coden, AL says captain collier seafood 😋 I'm looking for houses along the northern gulf coast.
