This ABANDONED Lighthouse Had So Many BIG FISH Under it!

  • After fishing some jetties early in the morning I decided to make a run out to Mobile Bay where I had a particular structure in mind that I wanted to try for some bigger fish. This lighthouse has been up for over 130 years and is a great composition of steel and cables that hold it place. After a few minutes of tossing live shrimp out I quickly find out there were definitely some quality fish lurking around this historical place!

    for deer flies and biting gnats(flying teeth)- use a 50-50 mix of original listerene- the bronze color-not the newer blue, and water in a spray bottle. It really works-.

    I live in south Texas and the sheep’s in late January run the jetties in schools from 25 to 100 strong. Not sure if they’re leaving or returning from the gulf. But it is easy pickings. Some upwards of 25”s true slabs. I catch a lot of grief here about sheep being trash fish here but I know they taste next to snapper. Great video as always. Yeet! Lol

    Up north we use calico crabs for Tog fishing , depending on size how much crab u use . Also use stout pole when fishing around pilings and stanchions with 50 lb leader and 50 lb braid . Something I do is use barbless hooks , makes for easy release on smaller fish .

    Buy a spray called Proven. You can get it on Amazon. I think it's 12.00- 15.00. We fish all the time out of Steinhatchee Fl & Suwannee Fl. Sand gnats are horrible!!! They make me get big welts when they bite me. A friend of mine who lives on the coast said she uses Proven. I bought some, AMAZED! They will fly all around you but I never got bit one time! I lived on the Florida Gulf panhandle in the seventies. Avon made a product called Skin-So-Soft that kept the No-see-ums away. Should still work if they haven't changed the formula.

    Hey. I enjoyed your video, and look forward to moving to NC. About the gnats: get you some American Beautyberry bushes, and plant them around your porch. Take a glass jar, and fill it with the leaves. Next, fill the jar full of leaves with the cheapest, nastiest vodka you can find, unless your local pharmacy has 90% ETHYL alcohol (isopropyl won't work). Let this sit for about a 7-day week. Then add an essential oil that smells good, and this will not only repel gnats, but skeeters, fleas, ticks, chiggers, and all stripes of biting flies. Only trouble is that most blood sucking parasites are attracted by carbon dioxide, and may target your face. Something like a horse flymask?

    What size weight do you use for the nearshore rigs during March? If feels like the weights just drift down so much slower on those rigs when you have the tide pulling on the line and pulling the bait off the rig. 1/2 oz?

    • @CaptCollier
      @CaptCollier  Рік тому

      I use the same 1/8oz weight out there as well. I’ll throw way up current up the rig and let it drift back to the structure. If I don’t get a bite by the time it passes the rig I’ll re throw and do the same thing. It looks more natural than say a 1/2oz or 3/8oz and I usually catch more that way

    Avon skin so soft spray works amazing for mosquitoes and gnats. We just bought a place on west fowl river and that’s the only way we have been able to be outside during the fall. Just need to inform your wife before hand to stay out of the dog house.
