- Goosebumps is a very popular children's horror anthology series. Goosebumps started as a series of books, but was turned into a kids TV show on Fox kids. TODAY we are going to be taking a look into the 5th and 6th episode of Goosebumps known as "Welcome to Camp Nightmare". (one of my favorite episodes growing up)
Welcome to Camp Nightmare follows the main character Billy as he goes to Camp Nightmoon for summer break, but one by one his friends slowly start to disappear. The camp leaders don't acknowledge any of the missing kids causing Billy to take things into his own hands. OH and while all of this is happening Billy is being HUNTED DOWN by a wolf monster called "Sabre". Will Billy figure out whats happening to the missing campers? Will Sabre catch Billy? Will Billy go missing himself? WATCH TO FIND OUT!

If I had two nickels for every time the twist on a Goosebumps episodes was that the main characters are all aliens, I’d only have two nickels, but it’s weird it happened twice.

@@raisedbybats. The main kid wasn't an alien until the very end and he also transformed his fellow students into slave aliens. There's a difference. The creeps were aliens but they weren't truly the "main" characters.
I love how all the camp councilors gas light the kids like "nah..big monster? Missing kids? Yeah, you're crazy"

The ending of the episode fascinates me because it's totally not implausible for other humans to exist on another Earth-like planet, somewhere in the universe.

Weirder if you think of this episode as a prequel to "my neighbor is invisible" where the big twist is it wasn't a ghost but a human kid invisible since now people hide since earth was dominated by human looking aliens.
@@dubuyajay9964or just modern movies. Nowadays they kinda just put people in space. Especially the MCU movies where there's just humans on other planets sometimes not even with little tweaks.
This book is special for me. When I was around 7-8, I didn't like to read at all, so my mom got a bunch of Goosebumps books at a garage sale, on a whim. She would read the books to me at bedtime and Welcome to Camp Nightmare was the first one we read together. After that, I fell in love with the series and started reading them by myself, to the point that I was burning through a book a day. Twenty years later, it's hard for me to imagine what would've happened if my mom hadn't randomly decided to buy me those books.

Similarly to me my dad when I was younger used to read to me every night as he worked most of the day and that was are time to be together, and of course my favorite book he read to me were several several goosebumps books

The reason why I got into goosebumps. The book and the show was because when I was a kid. I was watching fox, family and/or fox kids and they had the goosebumps episode playing. When I found out there were books I went and got them.
You should watch “Attack of The Jack - O - Lanterns,” next. That one’s got a good twist that you don’t suspect….

I'm kind of sad Camp Jellyjam was not turned into an episode but I guess it would be pretty gruesome by comparison to the other episodes
The twist of this episode/book is like "Third from the Sun" from The Twilight Zone. It even used the same line "a place called Earth" word for word.

@@henny137 I wouldn’t say “ripped” but inspired. I don’t know if that book used that phrase word for word, but Goosebumps has always been based on The Twilight Zone. Not just because of the twist endings, but even the concepts (Say Cheese and Die was inspired by a Twilight Zone episode about a camera that predicts the future, but both do completely different things with that concept, the camera from Say Cheese and Die doesn’t really predict the future anyway, it just causes bad things to happen in the near future).

This and "my best friend is invisible" (i think thats what its called) having the same twist is so interesting from a creative standpoint. Same with" calling all creeps" and "don't call me monster" but those had like a 10 year release difference
This episode is literally if Rod Serling wrote an episode of lost in space as a twilight zone episode. Love it.
Arguably the best Goosebumps episode but always overshadowed by The Haunted Mask

The Haunted Mask pretty much overshadows most if not all of the Goosebumps episodes. I did like the Ghost Next Door, hopefully Kingsnami can cover that one in the future. Probably the weirdest and worst episode was "My Hairiest Adventure", the one where all the main character and his friends turn into dogs. The other, I recall having on DVD that my mom gave me for Goosebumps besides the Ghost Next Door was some Goosebumps episode where some cat creature monster thing was involved.

As a fan of snakes the snake bite scene always bothered me. "It bit me, I'm poisoned now!" That's clearly a python sdkflkd

This is a great episode with really a crazy twist ending. It's kinda like combing two different twist endings into one. Like the whole camp trip being a secret test and the fact that the characters are aliens (or humanoid aliens) all along. This is a really crazy twisted episode indeed.

Episodes like this one has for some reason remained a favorite of mine for just how bizarre it is in terms of alien humans at the end at a summer camp.
Rewatching the episode, you can tell during the back and forth cuts between Billy and Uncle Al at the end where the arrow is replaced with a suction cup-tipped arrow, and I find that so hilarious
I know 🤣 in one shot there isn’t an arrow at all
That twist at the end of the episode freaked me out as a kid seeing earth in the sky like that I don’t know why but maybe it was to much for me to comprehend at that age

One of those ones where the twist makes or breaks the story for you. Me personally ive always liked it but i can understand why some believe it ruins the whole thing. Keep up the great work man! Long Live Goosebumps!
Yeah I think it's a cool twist but also at the same time I don't think the twist really needed to be there, it kind of felt like they wanted to add in another twist so they just wrote a bit of extra dialogue at the end to make it so they were all aliens

This was my absolute favourite Goosebumps story as a kid.
The story itself is good, but I just loved stories about summer camp.

This twist was insane. Also please do the episode where a kid is haunted by a ghost in his room I don’t remember the name I just remember how insane the ending is. Definitely the 2nd craziest twist ever on Goosebumps.

I want to say that I just discovered your channel today and I have to say that I really love your take on goosebumps and on the haunting hour. This episode is definitely one of my favorites as well. And I just hope that you are going to talk more goosebumps because I am really enjoying it to the fullest. I hated the cliff hanger and this one as well LOL. I wasn't sure if the books left them on cliff hangers as well. But I must say Billy was a huge bad ass.
My favorite bit about this episode is the snake clearly being just a Ball Python just. Being a noodle lump.
I mean I get why they'd use one of those out of any other snake. But it's still funny.

I was not expecting the ending when I first saw this episode.
I was so young when I originally watched this show and I remember two things clearly: the opening, and this episode. Blew my tiny child mind. I almost felt betrayed because of what I didn't know the whole time. I had no yet grasped the concept of "the twist." The "so stay CLEAR" warped me straight back in time, what a trip.
This was a top tier episode for me. This and the one where the kid goes to a military school and comes back a nice kid😉

Ghost next door I explicitly remember being a really great episode, I think it was a 2 parter. Obviously haunted mask is a classic
Yeah, I think you're right about it being a two parter. That shadow ghost is pretty comedic going by today's standards, still a good episode and way better than "My Hairiest Adventure", the only thing noteworthy that could be slightly eerie was that the boy's cat was turned into a human baby. You pretty much knew that from the glowing, yellow cat-like eyes.

I always thought the ending would have been better if they left out the bit about them really being aliens, as I feel like just the "the camp is really a secret testing ground" is a good enough twist already (it's not paranormal, but it still is really shocking and changes everything.)
from what i heard the book also holds up really well too. i have heard someone say its probably one of the more interesting goosebumps books out there.

100% agree with you Kingnusmi, Welcome to Camp Nightmare is the first one that blew my mind! I think it's the first thing I ever saw that had a twist ending, so my little kid mind was just flabbergasted and I loved it! It still sticks to me to this day.

My favorite episode of all time is The Girl Who Cried Monster. And it holds up really well! One of the best written and acted episodes in my opinion. If you ever get the chance you should definitely cover it!

My ball python once got out and bit me. Can confirm they’re not venomous, but she did leave a tooth behind in my hand so that was pretty cool
