Slappy is the OG Goosebumps villain that aged the worst imo because in every book he gets completely dogged at some point, usually by the kids. It was only in the Horrorland series that they started giving him all sorts of crazy magical powers to make up for the fact that he's just a wooden dummy.
oh yeah I wanted to dive into his lore but IT CHANGES EVERY BOOK so imma have to do that in a separate video. He also turns into a really creepy dude in bride of the living dummy
If you look at it from a certain angle, Slappy is really creepy but probably not in the way Stine intended. Like, his whole thing is trying to enslave children (mostly girls) and in Bride he headbutts the child he's trying to marry and calls it a love tap.
I feel like Dennis's design was alot creepier than Slappy's, mainly because where Slappy has a very expressive face, Dennis is just a blank expression with a broken eye.

The introduction of Slappy was the first episode of Goosebumps I ever saw as a kid, and I remember Slappy being utterly terrifying to me because it was the first time I had seen a character in something be so personally malicious towards *kids.* For the first time I saw the villain targeting what could’ve been me. He was evil for the sake of being evil, and it hadn’t ever really hit me until then that someone (or something) could be like that to children who had done nothing wrong. Needless to say it always stressed me out that he was pretty much the mascot for the show 😂
I gotta be honest, I'm so impressed by the fact everyone says the spell perfectly. Slappy would hate me because I'd probably mess it up and then give up after a few tries-
I also would have never brought slappy to life, as my response to the card would have been to silently read it to myself in my head instead of reading it aloud. XD
I like how pre-horrorland slappy can be bodied by literally anybody, especially other killer dolls. If slappy shows up, just call Chucky, tiffany, dolly dearest, basically every full moon character, bloody bunny, etc.
Right!! But I couldn’t find out if he was actually possessed or not because the kid in Bride of the living dummy got possessed by him so why can’t Zane
I forgot how much I loved Slappy as a character. I mean, he's one of those characters that I feel like has never quite been gotten right in terms of potential - except maybe in the Goosebumps movies, he was pretty badass in those - the ones with Jack Black I mean, not the TV movies. As a concept and his general gist he's great though.
R L Stine was speaking at a festival of books panel around 2011 and this kid word for word asked "Where did you copy Slappy from?" OMG I couldn't believe it, I wish I could remember what he responded but I do remember him being the coolest guy ever and telling the origin of Goosebumps
I once read that ALLEGEDLY Stine was freaked out by the original Pinocchio book as a kid, but I dunno, I would like to have a real source to that if its true. Frankly its fine if he just ripped off The Twilight Zone, Chucky and Magic to create Slappy.
I'm just not a big fan of slappy design in the TV show one because he feels like a redhead ankle bitter. As well in the book version of bride of slappy, he wanted her older sister. He starts attacking on a party. When he said he wanted a girl that no older of 12,I was like wtf and this man into that shit. He about to end up in jail.
I always saw Zane’s head turning at the end as him not being 100% cured of the dummy thing and that felt like him doing one last scare to his cousins to freak them out but that was a weird theory I had
Three things: 1. Wouldn’t it make sense if Slappy MANIPULATED Amy rather than bully her into submission? 2. Would it not make sense if there was evidence that INCRIMINATES Amy for the parents to blame her when the painting was “ruined”? 3. Can I just say that that Slappy is voiced by 90s Wolverine himself; Cal Dodd? PS. Cannot believe the Dennis puppet was used in Zack and Cody.
Here's one more thing you should know about Slappy. The person who was in the Slappy costume in Night of The Living Dummy III was Annick Obonsawin, who was in a prior episode before this which was Return of The Mummy in which she played the role of Sari Hassad.
Point 2; So it actually made more sense in the book (which, for a long time, was my favorite in the series, no idea why). In the book, Amy first asked Sarah if she could go into her room (to borrow markers), and Sarah said yes. So Sarah knew she already went in there while Sarah was out. Then the painting was defaced with "Amy" over and over. Amy DOES point out that it'd be pretty stupid of her to have defaced it with her own name, but considering everyone knew she'd gone into Sarah's room earlier, they actually had some "evidence," even if it was circumstantial. Another thing from the book that didn't make it to the episode was that in the book, Sarah had known for a while that Slappy was alive and causing problems, having seen him walking around. But she was too afraid to admit what she had seen, tried to convince herself she'd imagined it, and pinned the blame on Amy because it was "easier" and more "rational."
What I don't get about Slappy is... what exactly does he plan to DO with his human slaves? Mine for gold? Build him a castle? Feed him KFC? He doesn't seem to have any long-term plans beyond pulling pranks and just being a jerk.
Yeah true. Slappy isn’t even evil, he’s kinda just an asshole 😂 the most “evil” thing we ever actually see him do is turn Zane into a dummy, but like bro, if I’m awake, he’s not doing that. Oh wait he’s also a cupcake man… maybe he is evil…

Great review of the Living Dummy Trilogy, those are my all time favorite Goosebumps episodes! And about Slappy wanting Katie, in the book version of Bride of the Living Dummy, he originally wanted Jillian (the oldest sister, who’s still a minor) but in the episode they changed it to him wanting Katie instead (who’s even younger 😓) so they kinda made it worse. Personally i mention ani/Vader being in the episode to my kid every time we watch it. And it happens to be both our favorite night of the living dummy episodes.
You know what makes no sense about night of the living dummy 2 The scene where the literal parents were in the living room asleep with the TV on cuz understandably they fell asleep watching TV but how did they not wake up to the sound of the guitar getting picked up you can clearly hear it in the background the little weird sound the guitar makes when you're picking it up like this is the only one movie with movie logic that actually pissed me off to this day because I will never understand how the data the mom didn't get curious enough to be like oh hey why is whenever a kids getting a hold of my guitar
Okay, Zane was totally right for what he did. If you were ever afraid of something unusual as a child, you understand what a horrible experience it is. You experience the exact same abject horror that most people feel when facing a deadly threat, but because the thing your afraid of won’t actually hurt you, other children will taunt you for it and adults will tell you to suck it up and quit whining, to the point where you are experiencing that terror extremely often. You really can’t win because if you are of a particularly daring disposition and go out of your way to hide the one fear you actually have, people will treat you even worse when they find out, because now you’re not only a coward but a dishonest coward. Your otherwise daring traits are ignored and people might still call you a whiner even if you never complained about your fear once. To be constantly put in a fight or flight response because your cousins think it’s funny must be awful.
I HAVE A Theory, when it said Slappys soul can’t be destroyed the dolls we’re getting destroyed, and what if there is different Slappy dolls that he goes into and makes the cards, that proves why Slappy can’t die Amy keeps coming back, He keeps going back into other dummies!!!!😮😮😮
Jesus, it's been way too long since I've seen this show, but I forgot how ridiculously terrifying they made Slappy's design in the show. Also, I can't believe the Jack Black films somehow gave Slappy his most accurate design.
Night of the living dummy 1 was also focusing on another dummy entirely. Slappy may be on the cover, and he may persist through the rest of the living dummy saga, he's not the living dummy until the end. Edit: looked up a little more about it, and his name is Mr. Wood. It was his only appearance and some of his design went into TV series Slappy with the red hair.
God, this is up there with Chucky, Dr.Ikes, Tails Doll, The Mummy scarab scene, and the rat getting eaten by invisible monster scene as my ultimate childhood fears.
The new version of Slappy in the Disney Goosebumps show is the best portrayal. He is like a mustache twirling villain who is terrifying as fuck. I mean the original Slappy is a little creepy bastard but I like the newer portrayal slightly better.
I remember an episode of goosebumps, it was about faces or something but not like the living mask. Then from what I can remember, there was a shot of three girls at least they look like girls they all had long hair. One was curly one was a bit wavy and one was kind of wavy but at the same time straight, they were standing near a river of some sort there were bushes behind them, and there was some sort of boat or watercraft. It was wooden, at least it looked wooden, kind of looked like a coffin, floating in the water and they had flaming arrows and I remember that they were drawing their bows. Their faces kinda looked distorted almost as if they were wearing masks or something. There was a sort of cobbled structure in the back almost looked like it was made of stone. You could see it in the background, and all of the girls were wearing black hoods, kind of like witches in a coven of some sort. I remember this episode. I remember watching it when I was younger, but I do not remember the full thing. The only thing I can remember is that small image of the girls rising their arrows and all of the background details. Could you find anything on or maybe like look into it because I’ve tried and I’ve found absolutely nothing!
Slappy probably has a regeneration ability, since his soul can transfer, so he could’ve made more of himself as backup souls or he fixes himself with other puppets
Hayden *did* play adult Anakin, but Darth Vader's body double was played by David Prowse (who was originally supposed to voice the character, but they found his accent too distracting, so they found James Earl Jones, who has voiced the character in all Star Wars media since his first line.)

Yeah they were just snoozin TOO HARD apparently lmao
You're so close to 10k can't wait till you hit it
I know man it doesn't feel real to me
LOVED the Creepshow shirt, the Goosebumps one was cool too. Get it, King.
I’m convinced Slappy is a Metaphor for the middle child being blamed on everything in a family.
bride of the living bride scared the living crap of little me 😭😭😭
33:25 I literally watched this entire vid in great anticipation, just waiting for him to reference chucky in comparison with slappy
Fun Fact if you didn't know! The voice of Slappy is the same voice actor as the OG Wolverine from the original X-Men animated series.
The books make Slappy more terrifying.
Yeah I hope they didn’t looney tunes launch slappy with a recliner in the book 🤣
I didn’t know slappy was a child fiddler!!😱
15:45 18:45 lmfaoo Zane is so goofy I can't
You know that spell is written in a real language, right? It literally translates as "You and I are one now."
lol yes I know it’s a real language
I HAVE A Theory, when it said Slappys soul can’t be destroyed the dolls we’re getting destroyed, and what if there is different Slappy dolls that he goes into and makes the cards, that proves why Slappy can’t die Amy keeps coming back, He keeps going back into other dummies!!!!😮😮😮
I never understood why people people just pick up the card and read it out loud like... What?!
Same dude and it’s always THE FIRST THING they very pick slappy up first it’s always the card
this movie was the reason for my first vivid nightmare 😍
Dude, when I first saw this as a child, Slappy Terrified me when he was walking. I thought he was real😂
Jesus, it's been way too long since I've seen this show, but I forgot how ridiculously terrifying they made Slappy's design in the show. Also, I can't believe the Jack Black films somehow gave Slappy his most accurate design.
They were really trying to give kids nightmares
@@kingnusmi oh 100%
9:29 curb stomped
This video + Papa Meat's Slappy video make a banger evil dummy double feature ngl
I can’t tell you how many times I played the intro to figure out what you changed 😂 when I found out it was your shirt I felt accomplished and stupid
I thought it would be a more dramatic change but not really 😂
God, this is up there with Chucky, Dr.Ikes, Tails Doll, The Mummy scarab scene, and the rat getting eaten by invisible monster scene as my ultimate childhood fears.
The new version of Slappy in the Disney Goosebumps show is the best portrayal. He is like a mustache twirling villain who is terrifying as fuck. I mean the original Slappy is a little creepy bastard but I like the newer portrayal slightly better.
22:53 Missed opportunity for “Then along came Zeus.”
DAMMIT here you can take my job
So the bride episode aired the same year Bride of Chucky was released? Coincidence? I THINK NOT!
Once again kingnusmi knocks it out of the park. Your videos always put a smile on my face
it puts a smile on my face seeing you in the comments!
This is the only goosebumps episode that shaked me as a kid
I'm sure this would be interesting but I can't do the constant zoom out thing :(
All good my guy! I just keep moving the camera for more retention but it’s not for everyone I understand!
The goosebumps show main theme is so iconic and I will never forget it
It has NO reason to go so hard
I’m sure this episode is why I’m scared of dolls. Why did they have to make the doll’s eyes so big?!
yeah slappy is probably a huge reason I hate dolls to this day
Slappy not being as damaged as he should, has always made me think that Slappy himself is a spirit in those dummies are just a vessel for him
When Slappy had that guitar I would've screamed "WAKE UP" to the parents and that may have woken both parents and Dad would've seen Slappy. Maybe lol
No joke, I paused this video at the START of the Bride Of Slappy summary and told my dad that Slappy is a pedophile for that ending
I remember watching him and being so terrified of him it was a struggle to watch the episodes
