I just picked one up used at my local gun store! Got a sweet deal with the hex optic! This is gonna be one of my new off duty carrys! Thanks for the great info! 😁👍
I’ve been so tempted to grab this model in 10mm. Lots of people talk 💩 on Springfield handguns but man they are reliable , pretty accurate and very budget friendly
The Springfield XD series of pistols are underated. In the early years they were competition with Glock but didn't have the accessories and parts support that Glock brought to the table and that being the biggest reason for it's lacking in popularity. I can say that early torture test has shown that XD pistols are Xtreme ! And make excellent EDC choice, I've owned service models in .357 SIG and a XD .40 tactical and I still have it today. Simply they rock.
EXTREMELY UNDERRATED!!!! Updated Glock IMO they have so much better parts and doing what Glock should have been doing. I just bought this pistol but I had an XD .45 a while back tradded it in for the XDM 4.5 10mm and its a tack driver, Im super excited to slap some optics on this little beast
When it's not a hammer-fired gun, I like a grip safety so that I can holster a "one-in-the-barrell" with more confidence. As long as the grip safety is not depressed in any way, you don't really have to worry about an accidental trigger depress. With a hammered fire gun, of course, you can simply press down on the hammer as your holster it, to guarantee the same level of holestering safety.
Another great review. I still have my original XDS 40 for over 10 years. Good pistols but a bit outdated now. These elites are precisely what they needed to do to get up to speed with the rest. Again, great review!
That's the 2nd review I've seen now on this amazing pistol. Looks and performs as one would expect. Shoots really flat and Dragonfly seems to be zeroed in well.
It's a fantastic pistol in 10mm. I do wish it co-witnessed with the Dragonfly. I love the factory iron sights so I won't be changing to the tall aftermarket sights and I'll keep an eye on the optic battery.😅
Thanks, that’s what I’m going with! I was unsure about that grip and mag well on the DM! My 1st choose was the CZ but when I saw the price drop on that pistol I was stuck on a decision. But not anymore! Thanks for putting up great videos! (And helping my decision)
Just picked one of these up without the red dot last week, despite vowing not to buy another 10mm, since I already have three. Looking forward to seeing how it handles my 200 grain hard cast NOE LRNFP gas check handloads. The others a Sig X-TEN, S&W PC M&P, and an S&W 610, cycle flawlessly, and shoot them exactly where they're aimed. Love all things 10mm.
UUUUGH, its soo good looking 😭 Iv probably watched every XDM on youtube. Without a doubt, ill be renting one. And likely, picking up quite a few of their handguns.
Springfield sells co-witness iron sights through their website. They are a bugger to install yourself. $50 for my gunsmith to do it. The upgraded sights should come on this combo package. I would prefer a red dot sight that does not need to be removed in order to change the battery though.
I will never understand the fixation these gun reviewers have with those long intros! I've never seen Hickok put one, and still he is the best on the internet. Seriously man.
Good video, I bought the 9mm xdm elite 3.8 inch barrel a few days ago without the red dot for 349.99 plus tax at sportsman's warehouse. The 45 acp is also on sale I believe. It is only the 3.8 inch barrel models that are on sale for 349.99 plus tax. Not sure how long they're on sale. Thanks William
Picked one up for the wife and she loves it. Took some time for her to get use to the HEX DRAGONFLY red dot, but hey it took me a little bit to get use to the red dot on my XDM Elite OSP 3.8 in 10mm. Another good video. People check out his video on this gun in 10mm.
I see this pistol winning pistol of the year! Look at him double tapping rounds next to eachother in a 10mm with optics give it that little bit more slide weight to make the recoil a lot less, I have optics on my Sig and hands down the red dots make shooting a lot more enjoyable in recoil and having fun with that red dot!
Its bigger than a hellcat but smaller than a G19. Hellcat is a 3 in barrel. This is a 3.8 inch. If u get this gun, get the OSP WITHOUT the hex optic. Put a holosun or vertex optic on... the hex optic...NOT that great
I have this gun and it's great gun. I have put about 1000 rounds. The only problem I have with it is the magwell hurts my pinky alot when shooting but it's removable which I removed and I added suppressor height sites and fixed both issues although I wish I could keep the magwell I like the look and the convenience of the swelled up mag well but not a big deal
I took mine off before I even shot it. I wanted to add the magazine sleeve for the 13 round magazines. The pistol grip has plenty room for fast reloads. I guess if I were competition shooting I would need it.
I wanna hunt in the future. I do fish and shoot. Awesome video thanks for the great feedback on the xdm. I bought one in the new year and it is reliable and everything is great on there. My is a 10mm.
It comes with two 11 round magazines, not 14. However, the Springfield Armory store does also cell an extended 15 round magazine. If you use the 15 round you will have to remove the flared magazine well on the grip. I love the firearm.
Great review I just picked one up and absolutely love it one wrong thing you said tho the site does not have a shake awake feature it turns off after 16 hrs and you have to manually turn it on the only thing I don’t like especially when the other version that’s built for the slimmer slides the “wasp” is an “always on” display wish they would’ve done that with the dragonfly too but oh well 🤷🏽♂️

Love this gun definitely need to get one in my hands. Ive had the the XD in 45 for years and bought XDS in 9 as my carry gun now but would love a 10mm for carry.. I got a glock 20 but it's just to big n heavy for concealed carry . My only concern is the mag well on this XDM Elite I saw another review where they said the same thing about it cramping up their hand. I have large hands myself and had to get the extended capacity mag for the XDS for it to be comfortable
@@HuntFishShootChannel just found one for $799 at one of my local gun stores. Gonna grab Thursday. Dealer said there is a replacement base plate for the mag well but kind of leaves a gap. Hopefully someone will come out with an extended mag for it
The sleeves make it a full size grip. Just make sure your your grip extention matches your back strap number. They come in ( I, II &III) designations. So does the back straps. Make sure they match before your order. I tried all three back straps before ordering my extension spacers. I have the .45 acp version and it is perfect for my pistol lifestyle. Same capacity as my Glock 30S ( my EDC). That trigger on the XDM is way better than Glocks but my Glock 30S has been my Girl for over 10 years, hard to kick her to the curve. I doubt if I'll place a Red Dot on it due to the inability to co-witness. Really enjoy this XDM and would agree it is a great first weapon or all around pistol for most. Great no BS video really enjoyed your presentation . I disagree on the grip safety concern , of course I come from a 1911 background so it isn't an issue. Personally, it adds another layer of safety for new shooters,in my opinion. Great Work on this presentation!!! Semper Fi
That’s a fantastic idea, I’m gonna raise you though. How about a comparison between most of the popular subcompacts on the market? Sig, Canik, CZ, Springfield, Glock.
I’m guessing the reason why Springfield didn’t put suppressor height sights on this gun was to keep it in the price point that they wanted. Still think they should have put suppressor height sights on the gun for co witnessing.

@@HuntFishShootChannel not really. The G19 barrel is 4.02”, this xdm is 3.8”. The G19 is 14+1, xdm is 14+1. I can get a full grip on the G19 and use it for duty carry with its 15+1
@@HuntFishShootChannel the fact I can get a full grip on the g19, and kinda hang a off on the xdm makes it not “nearly identical”. Barrel size 3.8 vs 4.02 makes the difference between choosing to duty carry the g19 bs the xdm as well. The xdm is caught in between the g26 and g19
The XDM dimensionally is nearly identical to a G19. They are built differently and it’s higher bore axis Vs grip length. It’s part of the reason why the G19 has been king when it comes to compact 9mm offerings for so long.
Thanks for the review. I have the non-OSP model and use the Reckoning System from Crossbreed Holsters. I believe this model will work with the same holster. I'm debating on upgrading to this model. Did you notice an issue with the refresh rate on the HEX Dragonfly?
Initially no, but after more use afterwards, yes but not on the highest brightness setting. The refresh rate and flickering is just bad below that. The glass is very clear and overall it seems nice but Hex needs to work on that refresh rate for both the wasp and dragonfly as we have tried both.
100% agreed! Good call on the stock sights as well. I can't fathom why they went with standard heights. I have to order Dawson Precision suppressor heights. Another thing they could have done better was mill the slide for direct fitment of their own optic. Then offered plates for the RMR and Delta Point patterns.
I concur, probably some cost savings but they put cowitness sights on the full size elite. I agree also with offering other plates on the optic ready model without a dragonfly, but with that being said they are trying to promote their product.
@@HuntFishShootChannel oh, I'm totally fine with that, but they don't even allow direct mount with the Hex. If they allowed direct mount, it would work with standard height sights, but you have to use a plate, so it raises the optic too much so now you need suppressor heights. Like the Glock slimline MOS allows direct mount of the RMR to the slide and if you want another optic, you can get plates.
Part of the issue Springfield has with the direct mount is their slides cannot be milled into much because of the striker design they use. Downfall I suppose but I’m sure they can get a touch more than they do already!
imho, unless you're going to run this thing %100 of the time with a red dot it is supposed to be a ccw pistol afterall and ccw pistols don't need to have things on them that will catch, i.e. suppressor height sights. Thats why I think it didn't come with them.
Well if it’s got a red dot on it, I think it’s intended to be used with a red dot. Additionally suppressor height sights are really anymore noticeable on a carry gun, the snag factor is so minimal, it’s a non issue. Having carried many different iterations, snags on clothing is just a user failing to defeat a cover garment properly. I think if a pistol is going to come with a red dot, it needs to be cowitnessed with sights from from the factory.
I much prefer the grip safety. Too bad its being discontinued. It allows you to eliminate the possibility of at least 3 different types of negligent discharge. Yes, negligent, but it still happens.
This was a good review of what seems to be a good weapon. However, pronouncing "ambidextrous" as if it were "ambidextrious" is a personal pet peeve of mine and I had a hard time getting over it.
@@HuntFishShootChannel lol but in all seriousness though, you do have really good gun content on a platform that hates good gun content. You don't need me to tell you this, but keep up the good work.
Hey HFS, got a quick question; I'm tournament between the SPRINGFIELD ARMORY DM ELITE COMPACT OSP 9MM PISTOL and the CZ P10S? Both at same price! HELP!
Thank you very much for this informative video. I have one question though. Is the similarity of this (the 9mm version) to the 10mm version pistol big enough that one could train mainly with the 9mm version and save a lot of money? Of course, the recoil will be very different. However, what I mean is the ergonomics of these two pistols. Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to answer my question.
@@HuntFishShootChannel I'll look them up! I actually picked up a Blackhawk serpa that works for now. But I like having options. Shot it for the first time today, and loved it. But it will take me a while to get used to shooting pistols with an optic.
Still makes no sense to put an unproven red dot sight with regular iron sights that serve zero purpose. If that optic goes out, no back up.Wish springfield thought this through a little better.FN, S&W and now the optic ready VP9 all come with suppressor height sights. Wish Springfield did some better research. Will pass on the osp, 509 compact MRD has it beat Great video though
I agree with you, it definitely needs at least irons which can be cowitnessed. I think in time the optic will get better too , but it’s not there right now. Thank you for watching!
I can shoot the CZ better than I can the Elite 3.8”. So that’s hard to say. I like the XDM more because it offers more for the same price(minus the hex dragonfly). It’s the design of the CZ is like Glock in that the bore axis is low and recoil management is better. Positives and negatives of both!
That’s a tough call! Ergonomically I prefer the XDM by quite a bit and it shoots flatter. The Canik trigger is significantly better, and the XDM isn’t a bad trigger. I would personally say the XDM Elite 3.8 over the Canik based off the ergonomics, slimmer size, better capacity at the slimmer and smaller size (based of Canik with standard 12 rd mag, not extended 15 rounder), and after market support. Reliability they are on par. The Canik shoots great though don’t get me wrong, and you could be very happy with it..
@@HuntFishShootChannel thanks for the response. I have the Canik but I see a great deal for the XDM where I can get it with the red dot brand new for $649. To me that’s a great deal. Plus the fact you say it’s flatter shooting and slimmer. Seems like I may have to sell the Canik lol
It is flatter shooting and definitely slimmer. The red dot mounting system on both guns is a bit lack luster frankly. I wish they mounted lower. That’s an awesome deal! You would be happy with it!
Couldn’t tell ya, it’s a little small for my hands with it on there but I like the trade off of it. I would rather have a slightly smaller grip than no magwell. I did not feel like it was effecting my shooting either!
Don’t buy anything for at least a week pistol related, and follow along with your channel next week with your notifications on and you will see why! That’s all I can say!
I have a question how is The recoil impulse with this is it snappy because of the fact that you can't get your pinky on the bottom of the magazine I normally only hold two fingers with my dominant hand and it's very loose grip but the pinky hanging off would probably give me less stability I'm thinking so how is it felt recoil compared to say the larger 5.25 inch precision XD elite
I have this pistol and recommend the Reckoning from Crossbreed Holsters or the Covert from Crucial Concealment. Both are good holsters, but I prefer the Covert due to the smaller footprint.
@@HuntFishShootChannel You decide what is "critical" in your videos but if you want to produce a comprehensive gun review then perhaps larger hand individuals may want to see how far below the grip the magazine extends for the purpose of grip.
The whole video with no reloads? Not mention the grip size is shown with my large hands and I even make mention of how the Magwell will crunch your pinky. Your input is noted, thank you for watching.
I disagree... im so glad that they did the right thing by Not placing Co-witness sights on this awesome gun. Why the hell would you want to place a suppressor on a 10mm?... no point in doing so... This is a compact EDC conceal 10mm gun with an optic... a suppressor?... 🤔🙄🤣... Nope!
The co witness would be for the red dot in the even the battery is dead or fails. Which I have seen occur from the dragonfly red dot, and a Sig Romeo1 Pro.
@@HuntFishShootChannel That is a False statement... If you are worried about batteries, then you are already in trouble my friend. You should know the batteries in your gun's life span and also you would be inspecting it and your gun on a regular basis.. that excuse has been the go to BS story for a very long time... If you are that worried and have no confidence in your equipment, then maybe you should be carrying more than one gun for different scenarios at all times, but why? Again, the gun set-up in this video that we are referring too is for EDC/concealed carry... This same gun with optics,co-witness sights and suppressor would be a complete different set-up other than EDC... Im betting you and everyone you know does Not EDC with a set-up of optics,co-witness sights with a suppressor included in your daily life all day long,Right?... Just saying, this set-up in the video is Not for a suppressor and therefore the co- witness sights are Not here for that reason.
I don’t EDC like the average citizen. I carry a gun professionally. You must have never shot a red dot before where it fails and shuts off while shooting it, or change the batteries and then the optic fails or the battery door comes loose while shooting and the dot is then off. I have seen this occurrence with the Hex optics and Sig Romeo 1 Pro. To this point if you don’t have cowitness sights and the red dot fails you are going to be stuck without and aiming option outside of your natural point of aim. And to this, I would rather have the redundancy of cowitness sights than not have them. Not sure why you are so hung up on cowitness sights and suppressors because those sight heights can have two different purposes. Since you are in the business of pretending to know my background or the people I know and their background, I’m going to now assume you have never seen catastrophic failures of red dots, optics, guns, ammo and gear. They all happen. But you apparently don’t think so, and think that if you trust your equipment it will Never fail. Carry a gun or life saving equipment for a living and you will watch things you think you can trust fail, regardless of brand. It happens. To the point of the Hex Dragonfly, want to know my opinion I wouldn’t ever have one an EDC pistol or duty pistol. For those purposes it’s either Aimpoint, Trijicon or Holosun.
As a 1911 guy, I can truly say I appreciate the grip safety. It was the one of the features that convinced me to buy the XDM.
Great!

@@HuntFishShootChannel believe it or not I have a old XD Mod2 which shoots fantastic. I may get this OSP in spite of the so so red dot
Don’t doubt that one bit!
I wish they made a glock19 size version of this xdm. I’m not too crazy of the huge full size version
This is the G19 size version
@@HuntFishShootChannel not really. The G19 barrel is 4.02”, this xdm is 3.8”. The G19 is 14+1, xdm is 14+1. I can get a full grip on the G19 and use it for duty carry with its 15+1
The overall size is nearly identical to G19, spec wise they are different indeed.
@@HuntFishShootChannel Thanks
@@HuntFishShootChannel good point. Loved the review and subscribed.
Awesome thank you Jeremy! The support is appreciated
imho, unless you're going to run this thing %100 of the time with a red dot it is supposed to be a ccw pistol afterall and ccw pistols don't need to have things on them that will catch, i.e. suppressor height sights.
Some folks like it, that’s for sure! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Excellent video, does Springfield offer an adapter plate to install the RMR?
Right there is!
Why they even bother putting those sights on there with the optics. You need to have comp height sights.
Not too sure!
This was a good review of what seems to be a good weapon. However, pronouncing "ambidextrous" as if it were "ambidextrious" is a personal pet peeve of mine and I had a hard time getting over it.
Well life is a bit short to lose sleep over but hey if you got that time in your life, more power to ya!
@@HuntFishShootChannel Nah, I spent the last half of my lunch break not getting over it, and then I got over it in time to get back to work.
C’mon man! That’s alot of time wasted! 🤣
@@HuntFishShootChannel lol but in all seriousness though, you do have really good gun content on a platform that hates good gun content. You don't need me to tell you this, but keep up the good work.
Thanks a lot! Sincerely appreciate that and you are right they aren’t big fans, but we are gonna keep grinding!
Hey HFS, got a quick question; I'm tournament between the
SPRINGFIELD ARMORY DM ELITE COMPACT OSP 9MM PISTOL and the CZ P10S? Both at same price! HELP!
CZ P10S would be my pick!
8 bills , ugh ... gonna havta wait till next year
It will retail for less than that I’m sure.
Yes the two pistols are identical in every way, just recoil is different!
@@HuntFishShootChannel,
Thank you very much for the very quick reply!
Absolutely! Thank you for watching 👍
I don't co witness with my sig. I put target in middle of the glass no distractions and its lights out!!
What range ammo do you use for this pistol? Thanks
Really anything that is cheap, for this video we were probably using Norma 115 Grain Range and Training
@@HuntFishShootChannel thanks
Decent
I just picked one today, and like you have a hard time locating holsters. Do you recommend any? I guess until I find one I'll carry my g19.
Yes, QVO tactical makes some great ones!
@@HuntFishShootChannel I'll look them up! I actually picked up a Blackhawk serpa that works for now. But I like having options. Shot it for the first time today, and loved it. But it will take me a while to get used to shooting pistols with an optic.
My comment references the XDM elite chambered in 10mm.
Ok!
The dragon fly refresh rate is slow and it kind of flickers very distracting
You are correct, certainly could use some improvements.
Is this the 10mm or the 9mm?! Lastly which one do you before?
This is the 9mm. We also reviewed the 10mm: ua-cam.com/video/Gh63qkhGY3Q/v-deo.html
Will pass on the osp, 509 compact MRD has it beat
Great video though
I agree with you, it definitely needs at least irons which can be cowitnessed. I think in time the optic will get better too , but it’s not there right now. Thank you for watching!
@@HuntFishShootChannel great video review.Keep them coming!!!
Thank you! We sure will!
👍🏻👍🏻🏆
Did you like this XDM Elite over the CZ P10S?
I can shoot the CZ better than I can the Elite 3.8”. So that’s hard to say. I like the XDM more because it offers more for the same price(minus the hex dragonfly). It’s the design of the CZ is like Glock in that the bore axis is low and recoil management is better. Positives and negatives of both!
Have one in 10mm
One in 9mm on the way
Heck yeah! Hope you enjoy it!
Please let you know some good iwb holsters. I heard the elites can't fit the regular xdm
I bought mine of the springfield website fits perfect
If you could only have one this gun or the Canik TP9 Elite SC?
Triggers are subjective to the discretion of its user.
To some extent they are. Unless judge them based off their merits.
I'm curious of what you thought of the grip with the flared magwell removed.
Couldn’t tell ya, it’s a little small for my hands with it on there but I like the trade off of it. I would rather have a slightly smaller grip than no magwell. I did not feel like it was effecting my shooting either!
@@HuntFishShootChannel I want one but fingers a little too cramped and lgs aren't gonna take it off to try without.
Now, what I can say, is without it I can almost guarantee you won’t have the finger cramping problem. And I think your hand would lay flat then.
@@toddparsons2980 There's always the Pearce grip extension.
@@magicrlj1976 yeah but curious what's the pinky placement without it.
💯
Could you put a hex wasp on the elite just wondering i would like to find a red dot that would Co witness with the sights on this pistol
Even with the wasp they wouldn’t cow witness the stock sights well if at all.
That's a bummer I really like Springfields Iron Sights that they have on these pistols
You can get iron sights which are similar but suppressor height. I also do not recommend the hex red dots. I have had a lot of issues with them
If I get that one I guess Ill get a light for it and practice with the iron sights at the range i guess
The recoil on this would be considerably different. However, not unmanageable with the right grip and shooting fundamentals!
@@HuntFishShootChannel I have the Mod2 and it shoots great so feel this would be very.good as well
Much better than the Mod2
The recoil is very manageable. I find that XD-Ms are enjoyable to shoot in 9mm due to the overall weight.
Has anyone found a good holster for this pistol yet? I’m considering getting one pretty soon.
Check out www.qvotactical.com
I have this pistol and recommend the Reckoning from Crossbreed Holsters or the Covert from Crucial Concealment. Both are good holsters, but I prefer the Covert due to the smaller footprint.
@@davidn.3369 good concealment is always a plus
Anyone know where to a good owb holster
QVO Tactical!
I will stick with glocks!
So you prefer volkswagon beetles to Lamborghinis..thats cool
Dude goes the entire video without putting the magazine in thumbs down.
Didn’t realize that was a critical part of a gun review. 🤔

@@HuntFishShootChannel
That is a False statement...
Also this is a 9mm
But you apparently don’t think so, and think that if you trust your equipment it will
Never fail.
