- In this weeks video I cruise my Narrowboat down the Trent & Mersey Canal through Rugeley to stock up on supplies and then head towards Handsacre to go exploring a beautiful walk in the area. As there are no Canal Locks to navigate this week - Bonny my little rescue dog gets promoted to First Mate and takes her position on the boat roof for the first time.

As a fellow dog mum, its a joy to watch you connecting with one another. I don't think my dog Molly will be as good on the roof when we take to the canals to CC- in 3 weeks time!!! I'm beyond excited. You and a few others have been instrumental in encouraging me to sell up and live my dream. So thank you. I'm under no illusions but the lack of convenience is far outweighed by everything else I'll be gaining. And at 55, if not now, when?! Thanks for your wonderful channel Heidi.

Ahoy me hearties my name's Bonny and I've joined a pirate crew.
It's so good and exciting I can hardly believe it's true.
Before I came aboard I didn't really have much fun,
But now with Cap'n Heidi well I have a ton!
So now life's ups and downs are just confined to locks,
Though when I first saw one I confess I had a bit of a shock.
Cap'n Heidi has to wind us up and down but her arms they do get tired and sore,
I'd really love to help her but I've only got little paws ❤❤
You are not wrong about the summer! June - too hot and dry, had to water all the new planting and veggies every darn day. July/August cold and wet, wet, wet with lots of wind. Result = not many flowers, almost zero veg ripening and tons of bushy greenery everywhere! I must say though, that you and Melitza seem to co-exist in different weather zones even side by side. She's always in shorts and a t-shirt and you walk along with her in your jackets and body warmers 😂
Rugely looked very nice for an explore. How nice of you to pay a visit to the poor murdered woman's grave. There are good and bad people everywhere and always have been.

Hello Heidi! My goodness how wonderful to see little Bonnie’s progression. I must say I was a bit teary eyed thinking about Pudding (R.I.P.) when you brought little Bonnie out to cruise with you. She’s earned her spot on the roof outdoors with her Mum. Lovely to see you both found happiness being with each other. It would surely be a proper time to say, Ah, the joys of boating! 🐶🏴☠️❤🏴☠️

I'm originally from Rugeley, and my great great grandparents were boat dwellers delivering coal on the canals in a narrowboat. They must've settled in Great Haywood. I'm very much enjoying your vids, and how cute is Bonny.
Hi Heidi, Greeting from KL in Malaysia.
For a great cup of coffee at anytime without any electricity, you need a Moka pot or two.
Old Italian designed coffee maker that only needs a stove to make great coffee, just remember the Moka pot cup size is an espresso cup.
Our 9 cup Moka pot gives us two decent cups of coffee, our best used item in our kitchen.
Great to see Bonny out on the roof.

Heidi we are suffering the summer here in the desert, super hot no rain, 10 days in a row temps all above 110 deg F but it does cool off in the night clear down to the 90s. No canals but plenty of coastal cruising in your area. At least the Sunshine Coast is not as bad as Kelowna with wildfires again.

We're heading towards the end of winter here in South Australia. It's been very cold (I hate cold!) and rainy and I'm sick of grey gloomy skies. I lived in England and Ireland back in the late 80s and the grey skies and lack of light and sunshine really got to me. Mind you, they are predicting a very hot summer this year (lots of days above 35 degs C) and that's also a bit hard to bear. However, I'd rather be hot than cold!

In Rugeley town center there is a Pub the Talbot where one of the infamous Palmer the poisoner victims had an autopsy done. I worked on that pub refurbing it. There are tunnels going off from the pub under the town. I have been in the cellar and into one of the tunnels now bricked up, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. Just a scary place
Rugeley was a big coal mining town besides the other trades that you mentioned.

Years ago when we passed the Armitage factory for the first time we heard a lot of noise. The toilet pots that failed QA were thrown out from the top floor of the factory on a big heap on the ground.

I live in Arizona in the US and our summer has been HOT. It's been up over 110* F daily for the last 2 months, and it won't be cool and comfy till about the middle of October. But, then it's gorgeous weather till we hit June again so it's worth suffering through the summer for that. I miss the rain!

I can’t as I work in-between cruising to fund my lifestyle - my boat is my home - I don’t have the space to host I’m afraid plus I would be putting myself and belongings in a vulnerable position.

INCREDIBLE ADVERTISING since your name is on it AND add your web site to a corner so it appears in phitos. These pucs will get shared all over social media! Can store cut out on roof, behind bed or have a folding version! Great free, fun advertising! We used for our business and was a hit!
Aww I used to have a pirate thing that you could put your head in but I wasn’t allowed it at most festivals as we aren’t allowed stuff on the towpaths and it took up so much room on the boat so I got rid of it
Our weather has been horrible. Cold, rainy and bleak. I hope the snow stays away this winter but I have a bad feeling. Adirondack Park northern New York USA. 💀 sit on one of these for an hour a day while you’re driving the boat. I guarantee it will spread out that tight leg problem you’re experiencing.

Sadly live in South Australia now - trying to persuade the misses to take a couple years our - buy a small boat and do a couple years total canals - I spent 25 years in the RN so it never leaves you.

Glad to see that Bonny has adapted so well. She makes a fine first mate. As to the weather here in Northern New Jersey, USA, there has been rain almost every day with temperatures in the range of 85 to 90 degrees F. Also 65 to 75 percent humidity. Not exactly pleasant. Looking forward to the next chapter. Be well and stay safe. 😊

I would trade my summer for yours anytime, here in Oklahoma it has been a long hot summer. Many 100 degree days and a little above 100, Fahrenheit that is, at 2000 ft elevation and about 35 degrees latitude, summers are harsh, I’ll take that nice cool rainy UK weather any day😉
