Aaron Baumann, CoC3 ’15, of Cedar Park, Texas, has tackled the IronMind Red Nail and prevailed. The 36-year-old, 230-lb., 6’ 2” gripster was able to bend the Blue Nail the first time he tried. A middle school special education teacher, Aaron has competed in Olympic weightlifting and played college football (tight end) at Azusa Pacific University as well as certifying on the Captains of Crush No. 3, with the No. 3.5 in his sights. Aaron started bending about 9 months ago, with an eye toward Red Nail certification, and “I typically bend 4-5 times per week, just a few bars per workout, usually 3-5. I was able to bend more total nails per week by doing just a few per day and training more frequently. After bending, I usually do some heavy wrist leverage type work.” Aaron gives a “huge thanks to my referee, Joe Vitale for volunteering his time to help me accomplish this goal. I would also like to thank IronMind for tremendous strength products and my loving wife Erica for all her love and support.” Congratulations, Aaron - your name has been added to the official list, the Red Nail Roster (www.ironmind.com/…/red-nail-go... and many thanks to Joe Vitale, of Wimberley, Texas, for all his help as the referee.

I started with 6 mm and did the volume training between my lifting attempts 13-18 bars per training once a week. 4 months later I crushed 8x185 mm HRS nail in double pads. There are lots of videos of how to bend. Technique is the key and you have to choose what style of bending fits your physique.
I'm a noob and still have to train at least for another year, but I think I will stop at 6 red nails in a row in single pads and then just continue with the volume training between the attempts of whatever sets I will do atm.
I just don't want another wall or ceiling in my training like the one with the grippers (stuck at CoC 2.5 parallel close for 3 month already). IMO it's really bad for the cns. I'm patient and stubborn enough to reach #3, though, I think this goal is realistic enough and then maybe volume?

@@ilanaizelman3993 I TNS crushed the 147RGC CoC #3 and managed to bend 3 RedNail in a row in IronMind singles with the double overhand technique. I stopped bending and now focusing on dynamometers and crushing grippers without a set and doing few similar isometrics routines can be counterproductive and I came to a point where there is not much time for recovery in both.
