This ZF transmission, is German, is in Mercedes, BMW, exotics, etc... Dozens of different brands. Refer to Wikipedia. Just pointing out for all the folks dissing the Jeep who don't realize it isn't a Chrysler part, it's outsourced, lol.
I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee latitude and it always feels like it’s going to stall out. Going on i85 already gives me anxiety but doing it with my car is a damn nightmare. It has a weird jerky and laggy feel to it and going from 40-60 mph has this strange delay from pressing down on the gas to the engine actually doing something and going faster. And there’s just so many other issues with it. I barely ever drove it, it has less than 40k miles on it.
Love those writing in say "I've got one and its fine". Yes, that may be true but up against competition making quality products, the gulf between "being fine" and "I bought a lemon shitbox" is enormous.
I have owned mine for ten months now and no problem. I did have two recalls performed by the dealer. One for the fantastic UCONNECT 8.2" system, so it could never be hacked. The other for the trans. that did seem to help. But other than that I am very pleased with it. I tow a travel trailer that weighs 4,000 with no problem. Plus run down the beach and in deep snow. I get 20 city and 28 hyw with the V6 engine that has plenty of power.
I have a 2016 fully loaded Cherokee trail hawk, it has 14,xxx miles and left me stranded today as the transmission would not go into drive. :( I had a previous issue at about 6k as the 4x4 would not engage. I am starting to regret my purchase.
These Jeeps have serious transmission issues. Shifting is erratic, downshift are rough and bang into gear. I have had three software updates done on my 2015 and the transmission valve body was just replace, but the problems persist. Just be aware of this if you are considering purchasing one. My dealer told me he has had as many as 16 Grand Cherokees in his shop at the same time with transmission issues. Safety issue!!!!
My 2014 has had problems since day one. I kept taking it back to the dealership for the same exact issue and they said they couldn’t find a problem. It keeps bucking like it’s going to stall, even when I am in crawling traffic. Just recently every time I go over a little rough patch of road. My whole dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree. It has been nothing but a headache since day one. Just got a recall in the mail yesterday for something to do with emissions.
My new 2016 Jeep Cherokee is having transmission problems already. I have 852 miles. Today, as I was accelerating on the expressway, it wouldn't shift gears. It stayed in low gear and I could smell it heat up. I pulled over and the rpm's went up to 8. I parked on the emergency lane, put it into park, then back into drive to get it back to normal. I haven't even made my first car payment yet. Now, I am very worried, I will call the dealership tomorrow, but I don''t want to keep a car that is like this!
Nancy Goins why would you even bother making the car payment. fuck it. give it back. take the rims out and sell them on ebay/craigslist. then get you a mercedes before it hits your credit. easy.
Nancy Goins Wow, that's scary. I'm amazed at how a vehicle with such a major defect actually makes it off the assembly line and onto dealer lots. Where's the engineering testing and quality control? Then blame the issue on consumer driving habits based on regional differences? If this continues to happen you should defintely look into your states Lemon Law. Best of luck.

The issue seems centered around the 2014-2015 models. When these came out the software wasn't well developed, but it IS principally a software issue that causes misinformation to affect the transmission. You don't see this issue in the newer models. SO since it is software based, getting the updated software in your 2015 models should/could solve the problem before the software glitches ruin the hardware- such as the trans. Good point man.But over the years my family and myself have owned around 10 Chrysler products combined. Granted they were pretty good vehicles for the most part. However in the end they ended up with either head gasket or transmission failure. Right now I own a 1993 Dodge Dynasty, at 67,000 miles it is having transmission problems. A little early for something major like that.
Well I suppose either we have very good luck or you have very bad luck. My dad's 87 Dodge Ram lasted 288,000 miles, our 2000 grand Cherokee lasted over 218,000 before we got rid of it because we wanted something newer.

same problems with my 2016. 10,000miles and its on its 3rd trip to the dealer and this time is getting a new transmission. These cars are going to kill someone before long.

2019 with 20K (about a year and a half old) PTU failed and brake recall already. Waiting 2 weeks for the replacement PTU. I do not think I should be driving this thing while it’s Audibly grinding away
Even cars that are known for specific issues, you'll always have a handful of people that get lucky and don't have the issue, ever. More likely to be the case when properly maintained, but if its new, and breaking before you even hit the service interval, then, well, it may not be you. Hope she ended up with a reliable car in the end.
My 2016 screwed up today for the first time, transmission got stuck in 8th gear. Service transmission light and check engine light came on. POS Jeep, not even a year old. Taking it back, going back to Nissan. Should have never left.
i'm experiencing the issues she is also FCA refuses to correct their safety problems with the transmission. It will not shift gears properly and will not accelerate. Very dangerous. Buyer beware...
We got a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. It just turned over 55,000 miles and has been trouble free. When the salesman told me that I was buying a Fiat product, I almost ran for the door.
Henry Chaisritha That is incorrect......the Grand Cherokee uses a traditional 5 or 6 speed geared Tranny. The smaller Cherokee uses the German made ZF 9 speed tranny and it's NOT a CVT.....I owned one, it's a geared tranny.
If all true, get it fixed jeep and sell way more. I was looking at a jeep this scares me. I want to hear if still a problem full money back or you fix problem with jeep paying
@@ThejeffJr8 I will give you an update with a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland , transmission issues just came up at 260k km , trying to pinpoint the issue currently.
I am thinking to buy one tomorrow morning for 9000 CAD used one. Its a 2014 Jeep Cherokee sports model. I took a car fax and have am appointment tomorrow morning. What to do?
jEEPS...sEEMS LIKE ITS 2012 THRU 2017 THAT HAD THE MOST TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS......ABOUT A 4-5 YR SPAN ...THEY HAD DIFFERENT MAKE OF TRANSMISSIONS THAN THE OLDER MODELS. bUT EVERYBODY SHOULD DO RESEARCH ON THE SPECIFIC CAR THEY WANT BEFORE BUYING IT!!! NO MATTER HOW NEW OR OLD IT IS.
i was just looking at a 2014 trail hawk until i seen this ...guess i ll just keep my trusty 2002 nissan frontier for now,im just looking to update to a newer vehicle soon
They show a Red GRAND CHEROKEE in the pic in the beginning. THEN they show the smaller "Cherokee" the white one. The vehicles have different transmissions. The smaller Cherokee has the 9 speed German made transmission. The larger Grand Cherokee doesn't.
I drove a 2014 and 2015 Grand Cherokee for a year. While they don't have the same transmission, I had constant problems with it not going into park despite physically moving the lever into park, and both had erratic shifts, etc. Granted both of them were fleet vehicles driven by 15 different people.
That's how the actor Anton Yelchin was killed. The lawsuit was filed after Jeep Grand Cherokee owners launched a class-action suit in California against Fiat Chrysler, accusing the automaker of concealing a gear shifter design defect linked to accidents in the wake of Yelchin's death.
Germans are saying the problem is not the the transmission, it how us Americans drive? what the french toast! Don't get me wrong Ford & GM have made some horrible vehicles over the years, but also some good reliable ones too. I'll keep my GM 2010 Impala that I've had for five years with almost 200k miles on her with no major issues. Chrysler was voted the worst out of the Big 3 with the least reliable vehicles. And i was planning to check out the Jeep Grand Cherokee
If anyone has any info on this class action lawsuits please inform me. I bought one and I'm having hard shifting issues. I went to dodge today and they said i quote $9005.00 for a new transmission. I wanted to kill someone. I took my jeep to where i bought it and of course their weaseling out of the mandatory 3000 drive train warranty. Im pretty mad
Why can't auto makers just stick to 3 and 4 speed automatic transmissions , what's with this 9 speed and more now! More expensive when broken and shift worser than anything that's been ever out! Jeep- " Just Expect Every Problem" and I agree with many the new ones built by Fiat are complete overpriced garbage. Girlfriend had a 2015 Renegade that was a pos, and now a 2019 Cherokee TrailHawk 4x4 and I'm so far not impressed at all with it, my Dads brand new 2018 Ford Escape SE rides way better and is much more powerful when accelerating and on fuel economy. I'd recommend one of those for anyone wanting a new SUV over anything jeep makes now
Umm lady, U BOUGHT A FIAT CHRYSLER. Next time do your HOMEWORK before farting out cash on just anything. Toyota/Lexus consistently rank as the most reliable automobiles.
I begged my father to junk his. He paid 6k to a transmission in his and year later the shitty 3.6 engine is dieing. Plus the bolts sheer right off anything
I talk to lots of girls. I ask them what’s their dream car. They all say “I want a Jeep cause it’s a beautiful car” and followed by “I don’t know much about cars but I want a Jeep”. The truth is all these girls want to try to be and embody this “I’m just a country girl driving around in my Jeep, go on road trips with my gals” type when they don’t realize how shitty these cars are. Lol how are you gonna go and afford a road trip when your Jeep is in the shop or out of commission every month? Faaaaaaiiil.
well, seemingly like other car makers have 0 problems with the transmission in 40+ years and you're saying you been driving one for ALMOST A YEAR only with no problem...doesn't make me feel good about the car. I"m not trying to put hate on you or anything, just pointing out that other cars seem more dependent.
asidekick the previous year models showed problems right away off the lot. This year they have improved quit abit. I can tell the difference and so do other owners. I have driven this jeep on long drives no problem. Plus the warranty till 100k or 5 years. So overall right now it's great. I'll post an update if something comes up later on.
l bought a 2014 jeep the brake booster had to be replaced one rear shock had to be replaced and some stuff needs to fixed am just waiting for the summer I think they were made cheap and inflated the price 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 cause they're not cheap even the used ones its criminal
Got one in the shop right now and noone INCLUDING the dealership can figure out WHY or WHAT is wrong with it. Replaced all sensors and solonoids with OEM parts, fluid, filter. THEN we resorted to changing the transmission because the DEALER trold us it must be internal. Put a different transmission in it and it STILL does the exact same bullshit. We now have over $1500 WASTED in trying to fix it and it has been in 3 different mechanic shops, 2 transmission specialist shops, a handfull of backyard mechanics AND the Chrysler dealership and NOONE can figure out whats wrong with it!!! Chrysler is the biggest piece of shit on the road. BUYER BEWARE!
It's just a piece of crap and the best thing Chrysler can do is refit all vehicles with the ZF9 with an Ultradrive family transmission. They also should convert all shift by wire vehicles back to a conventional shiftier with a cable as an electronic shiftier has to be the stupidest idea ever as all it does is over complicate something that should be simple.
Patchuchan: Thats the key. Money traps. We do not own an American made vehicle anymore. We have "what was once an American owned name and Corp." Now its all made in China, Pakistan, Mexico ect ect. The automobile manfucaterers, such as GM Chrysler, Ford ect ect They are ALL built by 10 different companie's parts, and theyre all purchased from the lowest bidders. The CHEAPEST JUNK SHIT in the entire world. Beinmgs we do not have an American made Automotive company anymore, I will say this. Honda, Toyota, Nissan. ONLY and in THAT order. Nissan beings a last ditch option. Honda and Toyota make by far the best vehicles on the road. By FAR. Chrysler has always been a piece of shit anyways. Everyone knows that. Do not buy GM, Ford anything other than Honda or a Toyota, Nissan if you absolutely have to. And most certainly do not buy a Chrysler.
I know someone who was driving a Honda-CRV that caught fire due to engine oil leak. Are you sure Honda's are reliable? Read this - www.edmunds.com/car-news/2015-honda-cr-v-2014-15-accord-recalled-to-replace-engine-short-block.html
rifleman542 : Well, since the engine leaked oil and that was the cause of said fire, without even clicking the link, I can already tell you that its due to neglegence of the car owner. It didnt leak when it came out from the factory and all vehicles eventually develope a leak. The problem with that is they did not repair the leak. Yes I am positive that Honda's are the best vehicle on the road. Not only is that fact, its also common knowledge.
I pass Teslas and bmws in my Jeep Renegade!! It's all about how you drive people, you think that those folks in Germany dont know what they are doing? Like they said, they need to tune it for how Americans drive.

noctanol mercedes is biggest pos..it drives you to dealer garage...lol why not bmw?? hahaa because bmw even dont go out of dealership...toyota forever.
Jacob Lechtenberg Well they only reliable Chrysler products is their large vehicles, RAM Trucks, Durango, Grand Caravan, Wrangler... so if people want to buy a reliable Chrysler product, those are the ones. Otherwise GM and Ford make more reliable cars than Chrysler.

My 2016 screwed up today for the first time, transmission got stuck in 8th gear. Service transmission light and check engine light came on. POS Jeep, not even a year old. Taking it back, going back to Nissan. Should have never left.
Kenneth 07 Their CVT transmissions are having a lot of issues too
Kenneth 07 Same happened to me ! Almost killed me !
i'm experiencing the issues she is also FCA refuses to correct their safety problems with the transmission. It will not shift gears properly and will not accelerate. Very dangerous. Buyer beware...
What do you expect from a FIAT transmission.....
The same thing happened to my 2016 Dodge Durango and journey
Love the random, unrelated ring shot @ 1:23
I have a 2017 cherokee that's acting up right now. Haven't even had it a year yet. Still under factory warranty
If you tow with a jeep you wont get 50k out of the tranny
We got a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. It just turned over 55,000 miles and has been trouble free. When the salesman told me that I was buying a Fiat product, I almost ran for the door.
People need to stay away from those 9-speed autos.
Just a day ago this transmission issue has killed a man
NO, Thats the Grand Cherokee, (and if he used the parking brake like they teach you in driving school he'd be alive) this story is about the CHEROKEE.
+motor city man you don't understand the grand cherokee uses the same transmission as the CHEROKEE. The CVT
Henry Chaisritha
That is incorrect......the Grand Cherokee uses a traditional 5 or 6 speed geared Tranny.
The smaller Cherokee uses the German made ZF 9 speed tranny and it's NOT a CVT.....I owned one, it's a geared tranny.
Motor City Man and patriot use cvt?
Henry Chaisritha
Some Patriot models used a regular geared transmission some used the CVT but they don't anymore.
just spent 400.00 on update software and change transmission.. I feel stupid I just don't feel this is going to solve the problem. just not fair..
Did it ?
My gma has a 2015 and when you hit 40mph it'll jerk
Get your money back and buy a Honda or Toyota.
same gearbox in both zf 9 speed
@@chippy419 I think the Chrysler transmission is manufactured in America by Chrysler under license from ZF Germany. BIG difference.
Don't buy the German designed ZF 'Nein' speed automatic transmission
If all true, get it fixed jeep and sell way more. I was looking at a jeep this scares me. I want to hear if still a problem full money back or you fix problem with jeep paying
I just bought a 2015 Jeep Cherokee 4X4 Latitude; so far so good. I love it so far. But, I will stay on alert to any complications.
Update? Lol
@@ThejeffJr8 I will give you an update with a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland , transmission issues just came up at 260k km , trying to pinpoint the issue currently.
“Fine tune it for American drivers” I thought Germans drove wildly.
Right like wtf. Y'all literally have an autobahn
I am thinking to buy one tomorrow morning for 9000 CAD used one. Its a 2014 Jeep Cherokee sports model. I took a car fax and have am appointment tomorrow morning. What to do?
Hey did you ever get it & have you had any problems yet ?
@@FISBANGA I didnt get it
I rented one and it was jerky as hell
This is old news. I have 2016 trail hawk. Works perfect. Towing, off road, highway long distance trips. Town, snow.. you name it.
I'm looking at getting a used Cherokee 2016 how is yours holding up please reply thank
ROY CAPPS I have one! It stalls a lot! Almost killed me 3 times. Good luck !
I have the same problem on a 2014 cherokee. Awful
we talking about the zf gearbox right ? i am thinking of spending serious money on this car
Fuck, I literally just bought a 2017 Jeep cherokee trailhawk.
TAKE CARE!!
Hopefully you aren't on the side of the road... I'm gonna be laughing when I go by...
Why did you ignore all of the complaints and buy it? Do you live in a cave?
My mistake. Should never by any Chrysler product, ever.
Yonghui Wu Your mistake was not doing your homework before you bought it. The internet is free you know.
jEEPS...sEEMS LIKE ITS 2012 THRU 2017 THAT HAD THE MOST TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS......ABOUT A 4-5 YR SPAN ...THEY HAD DIFFERENT MAKE OF TRANSMISSIONS THAN THE OLDER MODELS. bUT EVERYBODY SHOULD DO RESEARCH ON THE SPECIFIC CAR THEY WANT BEFORE BUYING IT!!! NO MATTER HOW NEW OR OLD IT IS.
RAM now as the same transmission
Should have got a grand Cherokee
Why did'nt no one say anything about the death wobble
lol
i was just looking at a 2014 trail hawk until i seen this ...guess i ll just keep my trusty 2002 nissan frontier for now,im just looking to update to a newer vehicle soon
Look for a facelift model 2018-today. ZF the german company who supplies the transmissions have how fixed the problem.
Stay away from the 4-cylinder Trailhawks--they're dogs.
my mom wanted a gc but a 2013 limited
They show a Red GRAND CHEROKEE in the pic in the beginning.
THEN they show the smaller "Cherokee" the white one.
The vehicles have different transmissions.
The smaller Cherokee has the 9 speed German made transmission.
The larger Grand Cherokee doesn't.
I drove a 2014 and 2015 Grand Cherokee for a year. While they don't have the same transmission, I had constant problems with it not going into park despite physically moving the lever into park, and both had erratic shifts, etc. Granted both of them were fleet vehicles driven by 15 different people.
JDS John
I've driven countless 14 15 and 16 Grand Cherokee and Cherokee models, never had a problem with ANY of them going into or staying in Park
The picture of the Red Grand Cherokee is mostly likely a stock photo of a jeep they used for the story.
Just Empty Everybody's Pockets
Germans are saying the problem is not the the transmission, it how us Americans drive? what the french toast! Don't get me wrong Ford & GM have made some horrible vehicles over the years, but also some good reliable ones too. I'll keep my GM 2010 Impala that I've had for five years with almost 200k miles on her with no major issues. Chrysler was voted the worst out of the Big 3 with the least reliable vehicles. And i was planning to check out the Jeep Grand Cherokee
Typically, the higher-end Chrysler/Fiat products have better quaility.
My 2016 Cherokee Limited 3.2 with the 9 speed works beautifully ! They are selling by the thousands and thousands. Shifts are silky smooth.
It's only a year old and it's working. Yea those are bragging rights. 🙄
we are talking about 2014-15 ,,not 16,,they are different
"Yea so go out and buy our new piece of crap dummies. Just ignore our horrible reputation."
Hemi Head Mine too, they luckily fixed it and now do lifetime bumper to bumper warranty
TruAgape1234 ALL car companies have mishaps, and all have recalls. Just dont take a chance with GM because their mishaps KILL people
Got my 2015 Cherokee 😅came with a lifetime transmission warranty feeling better about my self after watching this
And it's brand new
Why can't auto makers just stick to 3 and 4 speed automatic transmissions , what's with this 9 speed and more now! I'd recommend one of those for anyone wanting a new SUV over anything jeep makes now
Because 3 and 4 speed transmissions are inefficient, and with the EPA's restrictions it's hard to get a car to get good mpg without adding more gears
I have a 6-speed transmission in my Silverado. The newer and improved models were getting 8-speed trannies--and worse gas mileage. Go figure.
Umm lady, U BOUGHT A FIAT CHRYSLER. Next time do your HOMEWORK before farting out cash on just anything. Toyota/Lexus consistently rank as the most reliable automobiles.
Jeep should have fixed this problem by now.
Idk who in their right minds would buy a car again after the first one was a lemon...
That's why you don't buy a Chrysler.
After 1998 Jeep is not Jeep.
The 2016 seems good
Not its not
+Rod Schneider yes yes it is
I've been driving for almost a year now no issues
well, seemingly like other car makers have 0 problems with the transmission in 40+ years and you're saying you been driving one for ALMOST A YEAR only with no problem...doesn't make me feel good about the car.
Need help 😭😭
It’s a problem they switched over
No problems with my 2014 Cherokee , loved it and now I have a 2017 Jeep Cherokee which is just as good.
Excellent vehicle
Chrysler owes her money and another new vehicle.
FIAT=Fix it again Tony.
Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk - worst vehicle I ever owned, lost my shirt on this lemon.
Jeep, never again.
Sounds to me like the TCM has glitches.. that's the transmission control module, otherwise known as, the transmission's brain or computer
It's just a piece of crap and the best thing Chrysler can do is refit
all vehicles with the ZF9 with an Ultradrive family transmission.
We have "what was once an American owned name and Corp."
Now its all made in China, Pakistan, Mexico ect ect.
Like they said, they need to tune it for how Americans drive.
dang, and i want a jeep so bad!
Miss Tina me too!!! i was just about to buy this very model too... glad i did my research
STaRR ViRGO they have German transmissions. wouldn't recommend.
Thats why u get a Grand Cherokee
Get Toyota, they are great cars!
Jerry they are trash. sounds and drives like a microwave. want to get a car. any car? get a mercedes. even their bottom of the bottom crapiest looking and priced car is guaranteed. why? because they actually know what they are doing.
Jerry, GET CHEVROLET BUICK OR GMC! Great cars!
Jerry yeah. you should consider getting one from the Philippines lol
Roberto Terrazas Yeah, if you feel like dying or having recalls. GM makes death products. Like, people loterslly DIE from their mishaps.
noctanol mercedes is biggest pos..it drives you to dealer garage...lol why not bmw?? hahaa because bmw even dont go out of dealership...toyota forever.
Shouldn’t have bought a Jeep built by fiat
I know better not to buy a new jeep the new jeeps are junk
Justin P. I have an 04 jeep grand cherokee. Runs beautifully with 97k miles and a v8 engine. The 99 to 04 jeeps where the best made in my opinion.
mines an 04 but 3rd slips now
Transmission, PTU, Burns Oil, they even have a shitty 2.4 multi air engine that should have never been built.
Rule number one when buying a car built here. Don't buy a Chrysler products. If you want a American car ford and GM.
No, wouldn't touch GM junk either there worse than Dodge
My piece of crap z71 caught on fire in gas station parking lot, least I wasn't sitting in it when it burnt
Jacob Lechtenberg Ford is just as terrible
1:23 get that garbage slow euro trash out
they say Germans make everything better like audi.. well guess they can't make transmissions haha
I'm driving the 2016 Cherokee Trailhawk for a couple weeks and it's fine.
mines 2015 - 25000 km rums perfect.
Hows your jeep by now?i am getting one today 2016 jeep cherokee trail hawk
I'm scared of those 9 speeds from FCA. Just pure junk. I feel sorry for the woman!
Americans and their automatics.
purely a piece of junk, imagine em with 150,000 miles plus on em.
145k no problems. Just some stupid click noise in the dash when pressing the shifter release when in park?
Still fighting my finance company about a Jeep lemon I bought Jeep are pos cars js
9-speed not for normal people jeje!!! ++++++++++++++(++++
