Lol thats me on s55 race with my m4 e85 vs redeye. To add to your video I have put almost 38k race miles running only full e85 almost at 600whp and have over 100 races running at that power level. Only issues I have had in my last three years and 38k miles racing were spark plugs/ ignition coils / fuel injectors. I testify for s55 being one of the best engines in the world
@@troypatillo1688 to compare how my car performs now watch the race on Auto Glory I have with a red rs3 two races with him. One no water/meth and other with water/meth injection
LS guy in the comments section here, it’s insane what catless DPs, E85 and a couple more bolt ons does to these engines. They are already underrated from factory especially in the Supra Mk5, putting to the ground basically what they claim at the crank. I might be an LS guy but I can appreciate good engineering no matter the make.
Then you might remember the m30, my modded 635 csi puts out 332kW or "450 to the wheels" on a mostly bone stock engine. Well apart from the Bi turbo kit I built. 😉
HOLY SHIT i watch your videos all the time and just realized that I made it here on your channel! im the first 335I with the gold wheels! That pull made 700WHP on the dot on full E with stock block. Held for a few years of pulls and racing and is now getting forged internals. thanks for the feature. Keep killing it!

Thank you for mentioning regular maintenance, people always bother me with my car since it’s a N54 bmw. But honestly, I just keep up preventive issues and I haven’t had a problem outside of a set of plugs. Have over 172k miles on it right now on a 2010
Yeah I was glad he mentioned it too. I've got an m240i with a b58 from 2018, I've owned the car since 3k miles and now it has over 54k. I beat the shit out of this car on country roads and even highway pulls up to 160mph and never had a problem with it. If you let the car warm up to operating temperature and keep on top of the regular maintenance like oil and filters etc the platform is truly amazing.
As a Euro Tech, hearing talk of preventive maintenance such as your comments and in the video....that brings a smile to my face and joy to my heart. Maintenance is the life of a vehicle. I wish more people realized this as you have. I tip my hat to you!
@@jakoreian Just regular oil/filter changes really and also the spark plugs every few years. Bmw recommend doing the oil change every 16k miles, but I'd say 8-10k is more reasonable if you plan on keeping the car long term. I've had mine for almost 60k miles now with 0 engine issues. Gearbox oil is another one that bmw says is "lifetime", however again, I'd say at least at 80k miles it migth be a good idea to change it. If you keep on top of the fluid changes and let the car warm up before you start revving it up, it should treat you well.
N55 m2 owner here, there are 4 variables of the n55 and the later n55s have the ewg from pwg and the m235i has a forged crank. Alpina has a twin turbo n55 variant also. The m2 n55 has the s55 baffled pan, lsd, runs s55 dme control, forged rods & crank, custom cylinder walls & s55 pistons. Ewg N55/s55 can run m5 injectors and are making 700+ whp on direct injection only today.
@@ChrisEOfficial dorch has made a stage 3 hpfp setup for the flow so with that paired with m5 eu5 injectors you can reach the fuel flow needed to support 700hp without port injection needed. The size and design is the same but the spray pattern/ flow is alot more on the eu5's. also nostrum has stage 1& 2 injectors for s55/n55
@N P how’s reliability with gaskets? im on 92k with my ewg m135i stock but still pulls like it just came out the factory, had all gaskets replaced at 70-80k and vanos fixed all under warranty, about to part x on a 2019 m140i but i fucking love my m135i
Been thinking about a m235i and 335i f30. Arn’t they the same platform or do they have performance difference besides the bump in hp from factory tune ?
Having now owned an n54, it can make about 600 whp reliably as pistons can fail as low as 650, however than can make 700 reliably if you modify it very well (and if you have one of the stronger 07 or is motors) however maintenance on these is very costly and it is costing me a great deal right now. The only problem with these motors is that it takes a lot more money than you think to make the power and make them reliable
@@BimmerMafia Ive done some of my own maintenance and most of my mods… FBO is fairly easy to do on your own, even if you don't have a garage. I don't think it's underrated. It's just that for a lot of us car guys, we either don't have the money to buy a newish BMW with less mileage and a warranty, or the money to maintain a high mileage BMW. It's just better horsepower per dollar to go with an LS or coyote, both of which would be more reliable at higher mileage than the BMW. But we can't deny that, if done properly, a modded BMW turbo inline 6 is a force to be reckoned with.
@@nerdeater27 I have to chime in and agree with your reply but I definitely disagree with the one who you replied to about being reliable because the fact is that it just isn't. Old BMWs are definitely robust vs later BMWs
@@J.Gainez exactly lol! I expect BMW fan boys will surely have nothing but great comments to say on a video like this one but I used to tow for a living and BMWs were one of the cars I've towed the most aside from Range rover and Jeeps specifically the Jeep Wranglers
In-line 6 cylinders are awesome engines. My first was very positive experience with the Jeep(Chrysler) 4.0 and then mind boggled with a 2002 M3! The E46 was breathtaking practically a racing engine with the 6 throttle bodies and 8500 redline 🙌
my new favorite channel! such awesome info, great footage, and easily digestible for those of us who understand all this stuff and are gear heads at heart but haven't done much wrench turning like myself. super fun!
I've had a tuned N54 for almost 3 years now with aftermarket turbos, after the initial maintenance work I did (changed everything) it's been reliable for me at a little over 500 whp, only first set of aftermarket turbos failed but I put enough high boost miles on them,
Toyota saw potential in the b58 and that says it all There was a comparison drag race between an mustang Mach 1 auto vs MKV Supra 3.0 vs Nissan Z auto. The Z came in dead last and the mustang and Supra tied, b58 swings above its weight class and its already beating its direct competition
Above it’s class? All of those cars are equally expensive. I watched the video and the mustang won by half car being na then the Supra turbo then the z also turbo both are lighter On forced induction and still lost to a na mustang Mach 1 which is just a track GT 🤣. Now is it probably the king of all inline 6 motor yep sure is but I’m not a fan of aluminum blocks either. It is impressive but would be nothing without a lot of boost and light weight saving. I prefer to make big power without having to even change my power adder or internals, weight saving can be had later. Boosted motors are not reliable and the more power you push through it the less it becomes. Also bmw has many electrical problems but the design is strong being an inline motor due to balance but only matters if the internals can handle it because the design flaw is torsion having 6 inline subject to snapping cranks and doing block damage but needs boost available to which it does not stock therefore it incomplete and might as well get the 2 extra cylinders if I’m going to build anyways for 1000 plus hp something these cars can’t do unless built on a lot of boost. Mustangs don’t need to be built to make good power and they actually sound good however still aluminum block. Now for a street car daily that you can make relatively fast sure. Not my top choice but everybody seems to think it’s the fastest platform out because they watch babyaga 🤣.
I agree on the b58 comment but that video was bullshit look at the z’s tires. Regardless i like the b58 better also but i wouldn’t rely on that video for evidence 😂

had a bolt on/tuned 2008 n54 and now i have a stock s55. they basically feel like the same motor. goes to show how well they built the n54 all those years ago. was funny gapping M3's because when the 335i came out nobody knew it had twin turbo's and could boost power by 50% for 2 grand.
Owning N54 with two-three bolt on parts and simple Stage 1+ tune from MHD I can't say a bad thing about this car. I'm surprised it's that reliable after hearing all these horror stories. Yeah, it has these expensive injectors, water pump, HPFP but not gonna lie, FCP Euro got you covered. In case of injectors though, you don't need to replace them. Yeah, I know that's shocking but all you need to do most of the time is clean injector tips and replace teflon seals, that's all. I have plans to chase the power but I'm not sure if I really need it. 390hp that MHD claims (never dyno'ed, idk if it's true) is enough for me and I don't know if making car less reliable is worth doing all these mods. Let's be real, on daily commute, where the hell am I suppose to race? Or who? Big energy Altimas? 😂
I race myself cause it feels good and sounds good, haha. I do it for me and the shows, not necessarily to race. Still fun making the car into a beast even if it's not justified by time played.
Bro, don't ever race an Altima. Don't even park next to one. Those mfers will take you out! Is there even a single Altima out there without dented doors and severe whiskey rash up and down both sides of the car? Should be banned off the roads. Fuck those ppl!
I love my 2008 E61 Lci with N54 but my god, the B58 is a sleeper cell! Such a wonderfully put together engine. But still, after almost 15yrs and just over 100k on the chasis and the estate is still a blast to drive and its design is still so timeless 😎
N54 with over 118k miles and over 700awhp on a stock motor. Right now only issue I’m having in the car since the tune are my wheel bearings. You’re spot on with N54 on how it’s older and a more rigorous maintenance schedule. However, since I did the maintenance over mods, I really haven’t had any issues. Tranny and transfer case might go first lol. Nice video. You got a new subscriber
Don’t be … extremely versatile engine and loves to be hammered. Put 50k on mine and it loves to sing. Only thing that pissed me off after a while we’re the programmed lift off chirps, other than that, which aren’t necessarily that bad, it’s great. Best engine not sure if I like my s58 better. Still figuring it out. Tuned it’s incredible, stock they both have their ups and downs. S58 upper range and power is not comparable and thats when the ‘M’ really stands out. However, for every day driving, the b58 is perfectly tuned and smooth and delivers power better lower, but I constantly had to put coolant in. Perhaps they fixed that. 2018 m40i and now x3mc - have fun!

My pops had the first 1000whp m52 in 2005. We always joked that bmw engineers were lurking around the bimmerforums forced induction boards cause of the turbo cars that came out shortly after.
Yes! It’s like the 4 cylinder version of BMW’s inline 6. I know the N20/N26 and B46/B48 are great, but they aren’t on the same level. Those EA113’s and Gen 1 EA888’s sound downright nasty for a 4 cylinder. Reminds me of how the N55 sounds a little. How it just sounds raw and guttural
I have a 2015 Audi A3 (DSG 2.0T). These little cars are pretty quick with a tune, downpipe, HPFP, and ethanol. The little factory is20 turbo can do mid 11's. Hybrid turbo's (with decent spool for daily driving) are running low 10's. Low mileage excellent condition A3's and GTI's can be found around 20k. Add in around 10k and you've got a reliable 10 or 11 second daily driver. Not bad.
LOVE my 2011 335i. Ppl give the N55 shit but don’t let that fool you. I’m pushing 390 to the rear wheels and that is more than enough to have plenty of fun. Thinking of upgrading to a M or B58 car eventually though.

main issues with n54/52 cars is the plastics; end tanks, hose ends etc. however i do own a n52 325i and it currently has 253k mi on it. if you do the maintenance and take care of it they last for friggin ever. the BMW i6 engine is a tank in general but people beat on them and then don't take care of it so they get a bad wrap.
@@HaydensJourney why would you want to replace junk parts regularly lol more fun to actually drive a working car than constantly worry and chase parts down..
Here in Eastern Europe what we call German 2JZ's are the OM606 and the M57D30. Don't worry, we know that they're old diesels but look at the torque dude..! Spot on vid, dude!
You didn't cover the M2 spec N55, but to be fair it is pretty rare. It's pretty decent and runs higher boost but does have significant turbo-lag compared to the regular N55 engine. Overall the BMW turbo 6 is one of the best engines currently available.
Correct, it runs a custom crankshaft and bearing shells, pistons, spark plugs from the S55. The tuning potential is pretty limited in comparison to the S55 (which only needs software to run 550hp on stock parts) but still I prefer it because of more fun, better sound and mid-range torque instead of high end.
Actually incorrect, the m235 and m2 share the same n55 engine, ALL n55s post 2014 have a forged cranked and the s55 rods, simple to check realoem to confirm part numbers The m2 runs the exact same turbo as the EWG n55s as well
Hey brother, I really enjoy your series on engines and vehicles and all the other shenanigans! I was wondering if you would do a video on the BMW m57 engine and mainly the e90 335d here in the states, I'm astonished at how little attention and content there is on them as they make an easy 500+ tq at the wheels and 50 mpg with a piggyback tuner, stock out of the box! The platform has been around for sometime and still evolves and I think it would be excellent video of this quality and enlightenment!
most versions of that engine are a beast when it comes to upgrades, all you need is a bigger VG turbo and a dude with a laptop that knows his thing, to make some easy HP and NM xD I am driving an e39 with the smallest M57, the D25 with a turbo (direct bolt-on) from an e60 m57d30tu (218) and a remap, it hits the fuel limit at around 230 bhp at the wheels, but this isnt what is insane about it, the insane is that it hits a little over 600nm, for some reason that thing PULLS like a train! Couple of months ago i had to give a tug to a friend of mine with his 190e (yes, i pulled a merc on a rope :D ) which wouldnt start and at 1 moment i received a call from the guy (i had forgoten i have a car on my tow hook) "dude, slow down, we gonna get killed" - the bro was terrified as it was *not us doing a 160km/h while pulling the car by a rope* by the way the car gives an economy around the 50 mpg when driven calmly :)
It just allows the engine to use the mild hybrid 15hp electric motor as an assist for better gas mileage. I've gotten as high as 42mpg on a 6hr road trip with mine
N55 has proven to be a reliable setup all around over the years, the N54 is a solid MOTOR...everything attached to it is garbage. B58 im not familiar with, but from what ive been seeing its not problematic. the N55 is great for someone that wants to play, but stay reliable....N54 is for people with bottomless wallets and want to play hardcore with power.
B58 is burning oil like it's petrol. Many Supras returned as lemons. Don't fall for the myth being created of "reliable Toyota engineered B58". It's another BMW money pit with engineering flaws.
Just want to throw in that BMW's Diesel engines are also awesome. Got the N57D30S1 in my X5 M50d. By the time it was released, it was the most powerful diesel engine in mass production. Again, six cylinders, 381hp and 740Nm of torque.
Should have gone a few years back to M50/S50 engines. You can go from 190hp to 500whp with just bolt ons and I would argue they are way more reliable than the modern engines.
This is a good summary but you would have really stood out from other engine reviewers if you mentioned the N55 from the MPerformance line. The N55 in the M235i comes with forged rods and crankshaft. The same rods and crank that later went into the M2’s N55 and the M3/M4 S55 motor. The forged internal N55 is the real power successor to the N54 as they’re pushed over 700whp stock block.
@@4our6ixkwvmz Definitely. Forged internal N55’s are kinda on the rare side. Most people don’t know it even exists because most of their experience with the N55 is from a the standard F chassis 335i or 435i etc.
Just got me 535 ‘15 57k miles in 2023. Definitely looking into making this thing fbo and getting 400+ to the wheel. Hoping I can put gaps on scat packs 🤣
I have the N55 on my 2017 X5 and despite it being stock with exception of an upgraded charge pipe, M Performance exhaust and M Performance that bumps up HP and torque above stock levels. It has a lot of power for what I want. Under my ownership I had zero issues other than replacing the thermostat, spark plugs every 25k mi, oil changes every 5-6k mi etc. Dec 2022: my water pump failed after having gradually failing for almost 2 years. It became shorted out and was runnning non stop while car was asleep. Not even 3 shops incl a dealership found the cause. I diagnosed it myself.
I thought modern plugs REALLY did last much longer ? How much does it cost to do the plugs, do you do it , need special tools or by BMW or independent import garage ? I am terrified of used German cars watching friends get whacked with them . I want to believe they are not a bad bet as a value prop as used car if you want to drive rich on a middle class budget but i both see in real life and certainly hear on social that its a risky proposition . I have a friend who finally covered and garaged his BEAUTIFUL low mileage V-10 M-5 he got for 20 something after dropping another 20K on stuff , then a year later did all brakes /tires and a few other small things for 10k and thinking he was good for another 50K and something else failed , he wont talk about after he was always on about his V-10 M-5 . He has like 4-5 BMW and Ducatti motorcyles and likes ' Nice Stuff" and has some money but dont ask him about that Cherry M-5 if you want him in a good mood. Its a pretty cool rocket couch when it runs but not worth the 50-60K he has into it now considering its sidelined .

Fantastic videos! The ONLY suggestion that I can make is to talk more about the specific car that an engine came in, so that it's easier ti find used or buy new. So, foe example, this XXZ engine cane I the 2015-2018 MERCEDES C55 AMG cars. Many years ago, here in the UK, I worked for a well known tuner of the Nissan Skyline, RB's back in those days. We bought two RB26 engines, formerly owned by BMW Research. That told me the whole story.
@@commontopg3320 I'm saying we bought two motors that were known to have come from BMW R&D, long engines, no ancillaries, we had the heads off (to fit steel gaskets if I recall) and the bores were still factory cross-hatched, so they'd never been run. But the motors were immaculate, time-warps, because they'd been bought by BMW R&D to "look at". Make of it what you will :)
@@commontopg3320 Nah, that's absolutely standard in the industry of engineering. And it's perfectly legal as well. You will buy your competitors products, take a close look at them, do some tests with them and then come up with something own that incorporates some of the good qualities of the competitors while preferably not having the bad qualities and being cheaper. As long as you don't copy something that is patented everything is fine. Look at Stark Future for example. They built a new kind of electric motocross bike. They openly said that to not have to do the research on frame stiffness where they have no previous experience in, they bought all other motocross bikes from big manufacturers and tested their frame stiffness. They then came up with their own frame built around their component layout that has similar stiffness characteristics to all the other frames. So they didn't copy anything because they needed a totally different frame anyway, but they derived their target values from researching competitors products.

BMW makes some amazing performers and I just have to shake my head at some of the ignorance I see in the comments section of a lot of videos. Love the vid, man! Keep up the good work!
I had an f82 M4 with the S55. The stock intercooler leaked all over my cylinders for like a month straight. When it finally put it into limp mode, I changed the stock intercooler to a metal one myself and it's ran like brand new. Granted, it could've seized the motor and blown it up, but that's literally my point. How that engine ran that smooth after that is beyond me. I ran lucas fuel treatment through it to keep the cylinders clean and lubricated, I put a low amount of octane booster per fill up to ensure I was always running 93-94 octane and I put CRC cylinder and engine cleaner through it twice in 15k miles and it purred like a kitten. Take care of your vehicles and they will last.

These types of small engines with high power always come with a compromise, in this case reliability. Ask any real car mechanic (NOT top gear uk style propaganda shows), and they'll tell you exactly how much german engineering is worth. Any small german engine that comes even close to a 392, wont be half as reliable as the V8.
I have a G20 and I was absolutely floored by the stock power and torque on those things first time I stomped it 😭. I've never felt a 4 cyl pull like that. If paired with a tune, it'd be hilarious to see what it's capable of.
@Faggot Rotten Interesting. I've heard a rumor that some dealerships fill up these cars with 87 octane and cause them to drive extremely poorly while on test drives. I was pretty impressed with its power curve and I use to own an F82 so i'm use to great power.
They are all very good engines, for sure. But I'll stick with my 740whp N54. I do regular maintenance which isn't expensive or bad to do, and this engine has never given me any problems. Great engine if you keep it maintained, and can be extremely reliable. The lack of reliability is USUALLY driver error. But they never admit to it, and blame the engine or car instead. I've owned six Bimmers and NEVER been left on the side of the road. Take care of your car, and your car will take care of you...
Maintenance I'm here for but some of these older 6 cylinder BMW guys are like "it's a reliable 700hp" but go through plugs, coils or fuel pumps every other fill up it seems😅

@@callanotis7902 it works the same for na motors but even allowing them to breathe better doesn't really help unless you tune them with better fuel, even with that it wont gain much. This is why turbo 6 cylinder engine or converting natural aspirated 6 cylinder into a turbo or twin turbo setup has the potential to be V8 killers. If you swap the the 2 factory turbos in a N54 with aftermarket low inertia turbochargers such as 2 Garrett GBC 20-300 turbos, you can make 600 hp with very little turbo lag.
Actually the first time a turbo charged engine was inside a M car was in 2011. The BMW 1M, the 1M was the first turbocharged M car , it came with the n54 pushing about 340 hp. It's actually the most powerful n54 in stock form from factory. And it had a few differences from the n54s in the 335s, 135s, like it came with 2 oil coolers. It only came in manual and all the suspension parts including the brakes were taken from the e92 m3. Also the turbos on the BMW 1M n54 are slightly bigger than the other n54s. And it was limited to about 6000 units world wide. S55 was the 2nd turbocharged M engine
what a fantastic video! i love nerdy stuff, when somebody gets everything right i also love all of these 6 cylinders, driving the B58 daily in my M340i, its a rocketship even in stock form, but my heart lies in the S55 territory, M2 or M3, the power delivery of that engine, and the fact it tries to kill you even at 1/4 throttle is what gets me all the time. hope i can get one for myself one day🙂
@@TheFuxxoWorksGarage no e85 that sucks. Even running 30% e85 on stock ecu gives a noticeable bump in power. U can run e85 up to around 30% with out any issues on a completely stock car. Once you get around 40% it’s really pushing the stock lp fuel pump anything above that it really can’t handle it.
What I’ve been most impressed with from BMW engine calibrators is how they run 14.7AFR at WOT on their these high compression boost’s DI straight sixes. I’ve been trained that cylinder temperatures need to be kept cool to avoid knock where richening the AFRs for cylinder-cooling is needed. But then again, PFI engines of old (2JZGTE) are an older design; hence, the times improvement in design/efficiencies.
Good point, but I believe direct injection helps to bring down the temperatures inside the cylinder, I believe because atomised fuel has big surface area thus it can absorb more heat directly from cylinder
I could always look for myself; but are the ones that you're talking about also use valvetronic with the staged intakes? Because that makes it function as if each cylinder had its own throttle body and creates a different airflow as necessary for each one!
Want me to show you the coal on the back of my n54 cars bumper to show you DI under high load is NOT lean…. You are misinformed. it’s only able to do that when it’s under light load cruising conditions, under heavy load it’s actually LESS efficient than the indirect injection. This is because the indirect spray absorbs heat better than the quick squirt of direct, and the larger quantity fuel having to be injected under boost/load means it has less time to mix with air charge. Can you visualize it yet? under light load the DI is super efficient, but under heavy load the port injection mist cools the runner and mixing before the intake valve provides a more even and consistent burn at wide open throttle… Also picture the spray pattern of the direct injector, at low loads those pores are spraying perfect atomized fuel mists into the chamber. At high load they go full super soaker just to try to meet the insane fuel load requirement, which do you think they’re designed to operate at efficiently?
true, i have 2 friends that drive 3 series bmw's, their cars are more in the workshops than everyone else, and by saying this, our cars are only used for traffic commuting to work and back, no racing or anything funny like tunes, stock stock
Regardless of the beef that B58 vs N55 vs N54 vs M engine owners have all I have to say is that I love BMW inline 6's the most wonderful engines ever created! I have an N55 135i and I love it to death!
Nice analysis. I'd only say that "these are not swap engines" simply because that is not as much of a thing in europe. For example, there are no crate engine programs and to certification can be impossible in a lot of countries. Otherwise, once they become a little older, options start appearing (like gearbox adaptor plates).

Gearbox oil is another one that bmw says is "lifetime", however again, I'd say at least at 80k miles it migth be a good idea to change it. If you keep on top of the fluid changes and let the car warm up before you start revving it up, it should treat you well.

Having now owned an n54, it can make about 600 whp reliably as pistons can fail as low as 650, however than can make 700 reliably if you modify it very well (and if you have one of the stronger 07 or is motors) however maintenance on these is very costly and it is costing me a great deal right now. Toyota saw potential in the b58 and that says it all
There was a comparison drag race between an mustang Mach 1 auto vs MKV Supra 3.0 vs Nissan Z auto.

Again, six cylinders, 381hp and 740Nm of torque.
Fully agree! I once owned a 4-series with biturbo N57 (750Nm with little mods) and between traffic lights it easily outran M4s.
Actually some earlier non competition m2s had an n55, an improved one over the standard version but not an s55 regardless.
Also, e82 1M had the boosted N54 even earlier than that
Great video man thanks. I have the N55 135i running 400 bhp 400 ft-lbs of torque absolutely great cars and engines.

Should have gone a few years back to M50/S50 engines. You can go from 190hp to 500whp with just bolt ons and I would argue they are way more reliable than the modern engines.
Those were the 2JZ N/A German engines.

I thought modern plugs REALLY did last much longer ? How much does it cost to do the plugs, do you do it , need special tools or by BMW or independent import garage ? I want to believe they are not a bad bet as a value prop as used car if you want to drive rich on a middle class budget but i both see in real life and certainly hear on social that its a risky proposition . I have a friend who finally covered and garaged his BEAUTIFUL low mileage V-10 M-5 he got for 20 something after dropping another 20K on stuff , then a year later did all brakes /tires and a few other small things for 10k and thinking he was good for another 50K and something else failed , he wont talk about after he was always on about his V-10 M-5 . Many years ago, here in the UK, I worked for a well known tuner of the Nissan Skyline, RB's back in those days. We bought two RB26 engines, formerly owned by BMW Research. That told me the whole story.
Are u trying to say bmw copied from the RB design

Lol true , if we could just get BMW engines in Audi designed cars 😜
I was pretty impressed with its power curve and I use to own an F82 so i'm use to great power.
stock for stock (no driver mods either) there's zero chance the m135 beats a 392.

Might have the potential till the v8 gets put on some turbos.

Because that makes it function as if each cylinder had its own throttle body and creates a different airflow as necessary for each one!
does help n54 is an open deck block and an electric water pump, temperature wise. More cooling.
Lol they do not.
Can you visualize it yet? under light load the DI is super efficient, but under heavy load the port injection mist cools the runner and mixing before the intake valve provides a more even and consistent burn at wide open throttle…
Also picture the spray pattern of the direct injector, at low loads those pores are spraying perfect atomized fuel mists into the chamber. At high load they go full super soaker just to try to meet the insane fuel load requirement, which do you think they’re designed to operate at efficiently?
Maybe a good engine but they leak oil from the valve cover oil filter housing the oil pan gasket... Lots of Maintenance required

Nice analysis. I'd only say that "these are not swap engines" simply because that is not as much of a thing in europe.
