15:30 I'd like to point out the biggest misconception to come out of Columbine and school shootings as a whole, one born literally as the Columbine was happening; That the shooters were isolated outcast bullied kids with mental illnesses. The Columbine shooters were in fact fairly popular, one even was prom king a year before the shooting; News cameras shoved in freaked out kids faces combined with now obviously not liking the dudes is how they got painted as loner outcasts. The guys were popular athletes, popular kids, and most importantly popular bullies who made life hell for others and never got punished for it but instead got high fives and laughs for it. No evidence ever showed that they had any of the "evil" mental illnesses, the most stigmatized and slandered as violent despite those with mental illnesses being far far more likely to be victims of violence than anyone else; They did have the ideology that drives bullies and popular kids to keep tearing people apart and seek endlessly increasing notoriety, to be remembered no matter what.
"mentally ill" doesn't always mean "not of sound mind," though. you can be completely aware of your actions and in planning them but still have mental illness. you can't commit a shooting like that without some sort of mental illness, though. it's very possible they had some sort of mental illness and hid the symptoms of it, or just never knew themselves.
THANK YOU, so much of the columbine narrative gets skewed, their group of friends the "Trenchcoat Mafia" were very well documemted in the official 11k report.
I recall that in this map, the shooters tend to travel in groups of 2. I've heard one of the shooters shouting "Jake", which I think is the name of the redacted shooter.
the 911 calls actually HURT this misson the voice acting was spot on, the mom one has me in tears EVERYTIME i love my parents and i take time out of my day to see them, the first time i played that mission i spent a lot more time with them then usual.
Given the redacted name and the graffitied evidence box, I wonder if the last shooter was one of the LSPD officer's kids. Would explain why they would want that name redacted and how the kids got their hardware.
Damn. This entire map is also appears to be a reference to the shooting at Umpqua Community College (UCC) that occurred during 2015, especially with the logo of the Watt Community College being almost a 1-for-1 of the Riverhawks logo of UCC. I actually went to there and seeing the WCC logo was quite, uh, unnerving. (Edit) WCC was also founded in the same year as UCC... Ouch.
the anti depressants description followed up by tilly's backpack being together in the evidence room is so haunting, the idea of a group of people with such poor mental health doing something like this and in the process killing or harming the people that only wanted to help, specifically people suffering with the same thing that caused them to do that is such a strong message.
I feel like the evidence box with what was a clear mental break from either the person sealing it or someone coming in and vandalizing it, mixed with the redacted name, I figured what happened is one of the officers at the LSPD (possibly the person who does the mission briefs) sons was one of the shooters. to me the messages on the box read less like a grieving parent spitefully vandalizing the evidence case of a person who killed their son, and much more like a grieving parent in complete denial that their son could do such a horrid act, loosing both their son and their image of them in one swoop, with absolutely nothing to comfort them as even the memory is corrupted. granted it doesn't explain the redacted social media post, but it does explain the redaction of the 4th shooter.
It's interesting. Given Ready or Not's general attitude towards the USIA and FISA, and the real-world speculation regarding Federal involvement in mass shooting cases, I can't believe I had not even considered there being ties to the overarching plot in this mission.
@@wolfensniper4012The FBI almost always has a file on active shooters before they go on a killing spree in the last decade or so, but they never try to stop them or arrest them before they hurt anyone. What's more they'll always have a Special Agent in Charge or Assistant Special Agent in Charge who will weasel their way next to whoever the incident commander and start telling the chief of police or Sheriff what they should and shouldn't release about the attack. For example the FBI advised the Nashville Metro PD not to disclose the shooter's manifesto at the Covenant Elementary School. In other cases they'll advise that the department immediately release a motive and all info about the shooter. Why? Well the question is always who benefits? If it benefits the FBI info is released. If it doesn't then it's never released.

Major props to Void for their neutral portrayal of such an attack and putting an emphasis on the mental health problems in the US without sacrificing their lore and worldbuilding. Perhaps Void used the CIA-caused Mass Shooting conspiracy theory to build the masterminds, specially the radicalization and involvement in the gear supplying that are commonly said to be done by the CIA (And their equivalent in other places as well).
@@ad_astra5 I mean i do feel like there are enough plausible theories that make sense with the type of stuff that the CIA is actually confirmed to have done.
The CIA has declassified operations where they intended or successfully antagonized a mass shooting. Funny that you think the CIA is a benevolent entity

@@senorsnout4417 plus I didn’t say that this mission made me sad, I said it was horrifying that this type of mission is even plausible in reality. Buzz off.

So antidepressants tend to stop the inhibition present in depression, this explains the small raise in suicidality after the first uses, so when you get disinhibited, you could suppose that what happens is you manifest a lot of emotions that were repressed. In this case, anger...
I have another theory, and it's because of two things. 1. The bombs present on the map. 2. The USIA experiments. This is a bit conspiratorial, but bear with me. The bombs are not just a reference to Columbine, but also to the Unabomber, and that's because of the USIA experiments. See, many people contribute the Unabomber's cynicism to an experiment done while he was in college, where students were told they'd be defending a thesis on their beliefs, but in reality, the person they spoke to belittled them, mocked them, basically bullied them into submission for hours on end at least once a week, if I remember right. Better yet, the guy who organized it was credited as a major contributor to MK Ultra and was a known CIA asset with a reputation for pushing things a little too far, even by the standards of the time. SO, if experiments did occur, I believe it was a USIA experiment done on these college students that caused them to act out. OR maybe they are also sleeper agents and the experiment to create agents is still happening. If two of them worked for "them", it could mean they were trained, like other notable suspects in the game, to create a following of some kind and they gathered two, making them the least successful of the experiment batch. That's actually the job of the Green Berets, US Special Forces, to train local forces to put up a resistance to whatever enemy they're facing, so it could tie this to the US Army as well. Schizo as shit, but hey, it IS just a theory.
Albert Liu is interesting because he's an Asian, there were few Asian school shooters in US history and the most nostorious one no other than Seung-Hui Cho, the shooter of 2007 Virginia Tech shooting. It is highly possible that despite the map itself is heavily based on Columbine (and IRL the Columbine shooters also made dozens of IED), Albert is loosely based on Cho. Archie is also a name mentioned by the informant in the 213 Park. However it's yet to confirm if these two Archies are the same person.
The movie elephant was based off of a British short film about the troubles in Northern Ireland and named from the quote “the troubles were the elephant in every ones living rooms” by Bernard McLaverty, my second cousin. Thank you Shayne for speaking up about mental health. I've been fighting with it for over a decade now. The fight never ends. I can't even leave the house at times. Therapy was a great help, and my life is a lot better thanks to it. Still a ton of work ahead. Please, people, if you need help go seek it. Talk to someone. Don't just hide your pain away. You're not weak for seeking help. You're not worth less because you seek help. Therapy doesn't just help you with healing, it helps you get to know yourself better. You will learn new things, learn new methods of helping both yourself and those you care about. Be the best you, not just for those who you love and who love you, but for yourself! Take care, and know that you're not alone❤
Only bad thing about this maps is that there are two bombs instead of more civs you have to save. Ruins the pace of clearing when you have to find both bombs
I feel like adding USIA and FISA kind of lessens the impact of the story. Mass shootings often happen without the need for a "Big Bad" to blame, but the ideas of a depraved individual or due to the want for fame, revenge, perceived injustices, hatred, and other motivating factors.
Your theory might not be too far off, a lot of cultists and murderers in the 70’s-90’s were victims of MK-Ultra and theres a few examples out there of FBI agents trying to encourage mentally unwell people into doing shootings or bombings (not to mention most of them having rifles and armor they wouldn’t be able to afford as students working part time)
@@schickman1994 what happened in Vegas matched the fire-rate of a light machine gun and continuous fired like one, instead of being interment rapid bursts like someone using a rifle with bump-stock attached.
I think I think a little under looked fact might have been that the cafe noir was trying to get newly enrolled students addicted to coffee straight off the back. Seriously not ethical but a practical business model
Weird writing oversight on this mission. The security guard/campus cop who is an ex LSPD officer was born in 1990, but had 15 years on the force. Unless he somehow became a cop as a teenager this is impossible.
I have my Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice and spent long periods of time mulling over the various facets of the law. From what I know, only the court and its officials (mainly judges) can redact official records. I think, possibly, that the relatives of the unknown 4th suspect may have had some pull in Los Suenos, perhaps having been well acquainted with a local judge, who agreed to sign orders to redact all those things so the suspect's surviving family members could save face. They might have even swept stuff under the rug even further as time went on.
One thing I'll say is Therapy isn't helpful for everyone, for me it was a repeated cycle of having my traumas dug back up instead of being taught ways to move past them. It wasn't until after I quit Therapy that I was able to move on and live a healthier more productive life. Also yeah this is completely a U.S.I.A. conspiracy and if you existed in the Ready or Not universe you making this video would make you a recipient of the good 'ol wrapped up in a carpet and thrown into the river treatment.
My therapist I swear doesn't do shit for me and he's so old it's like he can't resist the money but doesn't care about his job anymore takes dude like 5 minutes to even walk to the room
This mission reminded me of the “Smiley Archive” a lot, particularly Episode 8 of it. It’s also worth mentioning that Operation Northwoods was a false-flag operation in the early part of the CIA’s history.
The most plausible theory imo regarding the redacted shooter is that it was the handler's son who was the 4th shooter. A government coverup would be something the police agency would take note of and would likely be known by the players if it occurred. He likely redacted the information that could publicly tie his son to this shooting, and then resigned or got fired over his treatment of the investigation. The idea of this being something more massive than a school shooting itself kind of defeats the purpose of this level being created, as it was made to show how rather than uncovering a huge conspiracy or giant organized ring behind the crime its quite simply just some mentally unwell kids that decided to carry out a massacre just to hurt others.
So weird that they specify that anti-depressants were in the shooter's system, yet also talk about private therapy being incredibly expensive. Perhaps in that game world, Kasonopram is over prescribed in favor of therapy but it has a side effect of making a small percentage of people incredibly violent. Would be neat if it was related to MLO also, who pretty much are seeking a takeover of the country through doing 5th column stuff. I just find the idea that the crazy guy in the boobytrapped shack was right being a super amusing conclusion to this game's lore.
I think the mission briefing guy's son is one of the shooters and not just a victim like others have already pointed out. In the briefing, he says that his kid WENT to that school, not that his kid is GOING to that school. If he knew that his son was in that school right now, I think the briefing would sound much much different. So I'd say that his son was a WCC alumni and that he later came back to shoot up the place for whatever reason.
I think the unknown individual is the officer’s son, it has to be. First, the officer says that his kid used to go to this school, but not anymore, but yet we have that box that says “my boy, fuck it”, so it is implied that he died, however how would he be a victim if he doesn’t go there anymore? I think the officer son was a college dropout, probably due to his depression and bullying, and he and the other shooter orchestrated the attack. Things are redacted and his name is never mentioned because the police officer did it to protect his son identity.
It feels important to also note the BBC film “Elephant,” a short film that consists of 18 recreations of shooting murders that occurred during the Troubles in the 1900s in Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the UK proper. The name of this mission, and the two films about violent crimes named the same, all refer deeply to the lack of mass discourse around acts of extreme violence and the societal taboo of actually talking seriously about these tragic things in our lives.
Honestly going to say this: if the USIA were involved nothing would happen the whole incident would be memory holed like what happens IRL with undesirable incidents caused by the feds
I wonder if the fourth unknown individual could be gang-related. Archie explicitly seems to hate the police, and in the cut interrogation, "they" seem to have connections. I don't know how this map relates chronologically to the postal service map, but what if this is a means for Los Locos to get some payback on the LSPD for the gun bust? If they've got enough influence to move illegal weapons in bulk through the mail, they might also feel confident enough that they can retaliate against those who ruined their smuggling op. They use either a patsy or an extremely fervent gang member to convince and go along with others to commit a mass shooting out of nothing more than spite.
The unknown suspect must have been the team leads son, hence why he says she’s “went” to the collage and possibly is also the reason for the leaders fit and vandalism of the evidence simply because he saw that his son took part in the shooting
Little bit of a mess up when queueing the voice over for the 911 calls and the briefing. But otherwise a perfect video. I thank you for your stand up in regards to mental health advocacy. I try every day to live my life free of my past trouble. It's not hard. And as much therapy as I have done. It doesn't work for me. But I know it works for some of my friends. Also fuck you (in a nice way) for making me cry. Once for the calls. And second for telling me that I matter ❤

A little real-life conspiracy theory: 12:57 the antidepressants depicted here should be a reference to what some people (notably John Noveske, who was a high-end custom-AR manufacturer in the early 2010's that died in a car accident right after he brought this up) call a connection between Big Pharma and mass shootings. A lot of school shooters of that time -- at least by Noveske's claim -- ended up being teens that were on Prozac, Ritalin, or Paxil, often taking dosages above the adult recommended prescription or having their prescribed dosages doubled. With the dismantlement of the mental institution infrastructure post-Reagan, the laissez-faire psychiatry industry hasn't had a centralized authority to reign in and monitor psychiatrists and their prescribed dosages. A lot of the literature on how psychiatric drugs affect people tends to be shaky, outdated, or reliant on researchers of other disciplines (namely doctors who specialize in internal medicine testing for how these drugs might antagonize other common drugs), and it is mostly recent research that has casted doubts on the safety of these psychiatric drugs on adolescent biology. In the meantime, there are a lot of psychiatrists who want to up the dosages (they are doing this on the medical assumption that some individuals might not be as receptive to the drug as the average individual) on patients if symptoms did not improve, and big pharma reps tend to take these psychiatrists out to fancy dinners and have them coaxed into peddling these drugs. It's not that there is a conspiracy to create mass shooters, but rather that the amount of money that the makers of Prozac, Ritalin, and Paxil stand to lose if new literature comes out to question their safety and effectiveness could be the difference between a yacht and a superyacht; no Fortune 500 manufacturer wants to have an authority to give a shit about what they pump out if they can get away with it. And the bigger conspiracy is what lengths they are willing to go to make sure that people don't bring up these safety concerns as often (Boeing rings a bell in this day and age).
Im curious if theres signs or will be signs that leaded gasoline was used much longer than in our world. We already know that many events that happened in this world happened differently than ours. Plus it could explain why violent crime seems so rampant, beyond just the mk ultra stuff. The IRL correlation between violent crime and the phasing out of leaded gasoline, lead being a known neurotoxin, is quite staggering. So if leaded gasoline was used much longer, or even worse is still in use, it could partially explain the horrid conditions and apparent mental health decline here
Something just struck me as I was watching this. In the interrogation audio for Twisted Nerve, the informant specifically mentions that his son is named Archie. I'm now wondering if there are even deeper ties to Watt there.
I've posted this in another video about this, but it applies to what he was talking about with the antidepressants: I think there may also be a negative reaction to the antidepressants part of the evidence from critics. People may think to themselves "well that's making a bad example of the medication. People who use them every day don't do this kind of thing!" While they are partially correct, there's a huge problem with SSRIs even people who take them seem to forget: SSRIs have side effects like loss of inhibition and apathy. If a user experiences this, paired with whatever thoughts the user has, they may act without any sense of emotional weight or further thought. This is a big reason why people say to immediately call their doctors if on SSRIs and experience suicidal thoughts or that type of emotion. A lot of the reason why, when people do commit things like suicide, there are no warning signs. There are no indicators that anything is wrong. They're feeling satisfied with their choices and they are going to do it; and often nothing will snap them out of this. This is one of the biggest gripes I have with kids and young adults being on these medications: I believe there's either not enough of a thorough evaluation of them first, or there's just plain awful medical professionals diagnosing them. It's incredibly shocking how many children and young adults are being diagnosed with depression or anxiety, then being put on meds without any kind of therapy or further evaluation. If the Rosenhan experiment taught us anything, it's that there are definitely gaps in quality of mental health care and competent doctors; and it reinforces the opinion of many people that you should always consider getting second opinions on medical issues. It's also my opinion that therapy should come first, and medications should always be a last resort.
it could also mean the unknown individual was Team Leader's son and Team Leader used his power as the SWAT commander to Redact it, which would also explain why the evidence box had all that writing

Given the redacted name and the graffitied evidence box, I wonder if the last shooter was one of the LSPD officer's kids.
Would explain why they would want that name redacted and how the kids got their hardware.
prolly the evidence guy as he resigned after the mission
Or just a minor...
Ouch.
That is just very chilling, the logo just, exactly the same
@@wolfensniper4012 Yeah. Kinda was the first thing that came to mind when I saw that logo.
Damn.
the anti depressants description followed up by tilly's backpack being together in the evidence room is so haunting, the idea of a group of people with such poor mental health doing something like this and in the process killing or harming the people that only wanted to help, specifically people suffering with the same thing that caused them to do that is such a strong message.
Of all the things he didn't have to show he had to show that hotdog stand.
It was a smart tactic to give some levity to the audience amidst the heartbreak and deeply negative vibes
It's interesting. Given Ready or Not's general attitude towards the USIA and FISA, and the real-world speculation regarding Federal involvement in mass shooting cases, I can't believe I had not even considered there being ties to the overarching plot in this mission.
Oy vey, shut it down.

I just really hope players don’t start believing the real theories, but I’m sure Void is much smarter than to fuel that

Never bothered to look at evidence or listen to the briefing. I only looked at media and the calls. That’s actually really sad that the command guy son died in that school shooting.
Well it’s only a theory
Also he specifically says "went" as in he doesn’t do anymore
He also might've killed innocent people which would explain the vandalized evidence box...
...but, that's a theory
17:41 i actually heard this line too while playing and handcuffing one, got me shivers

They forgot the part where the cops cower outside the school while kids are murdered bc the cops are too scared
luckily, los sueños has one thing over the real world, the cops actually have a sliver of integrity and do their job
Apparently FISA has less money than their real-world counterpart.
Man they had to put a Sausage Party joke on the school shooter map...
10:23 the hot dog stand was much needed comic releif after the 911 phone calls
They did not hold back on those 9/11 calls Jesus

The music!!! Spec Ops: The Line was, and still is, my favorite game story. The intro music is so good.
Shanye is the new matpat of game theory
Change my mind
Shayne,please keep yapping🔥🔥🔥🔥
I think the unknown individual is the officer’s son, it has to be. First, the officer says that his kid used to go to this school, but not anymore, but yet we have that box that says “my boy, fuck it”, so it is implied that he died, however how would he be a victim if he doesn’t go there anymore? I think the officer son was a college dropout, probably due to his depression and bullying, and he and the other shooter orchestrated the attack.
Things are redacted and his name is never mentioned because the police officer did it to protect his son identity.
It is truly messed up that UA-cam gives me a shooting game for this video on school shootings.
Shit... When i played this mission for the first time and heard 911 calls i was starting this mission crying voice acting is on top level

They use either a patsy or an extremely fervent gang member to convince and go along with others to commit a mass shooting out of nothing more than spite.
that social media post read like an SCP article with all of those redactions
The unknown suspect must have been the team leads son, hence why he says she’s “went” to the collage and possibly is also the reason for the leaders fit and vandalism of the evidence simply because he saw that his son took part in the shooting
Ngl in this game some of the 911 calls made me genuinely tear up, get an adrenaline rush or both, the voice acting and level designs are wild

A little real-life conspiracy theory:
12:57 the antidepressants depicted here should be a reference to what some people (notably John Noveske, who was a high-end custom-AR manufacturer in the early 2010's that died in a car accident right after he brought this up) call a connection between Big Pharma and mass shootings.

Loving this series Shane!
Ready or Not is an example of politics done right in videogames, such as Disco E, MGS or New Vegas, none of that hamfisted Ubi bullshit
As haunting as those 911 calls are. I respect their commitment to reality in the present. That first one especially. Oof.
it could also mean the unknown individual was Team Leader's son and Team Leader used his power as the SWAT commander to Redact it, which would also explain why the evidence box had all that writing
