I always felt sorry for the Ed character, played so brilliantly by Harvey. He was constantly humiliated and taken for granted by both of those high-strung (a nice way to say it) women, and was always shot down. I think he would have risen to the challenge if he had been given any respect or consideration. He gravitated toward Mickey Hart (another stellar characterization) because he was given respect by his employee. He was probably very effective at the hardware store. The worst insult was when Eunice told her sister Ellen that "Duke Reeves" was the only man she ever loved! And that she ended up "stuck with" Ed!
Great that Ed found love and friendship with Mickey, bringing Joy into his life considering he had to to deal with his negative wife and mother in-law,and great that he stood up for himself in the end.
Ed always reminds me of my Dad. He's not anything at all like the character, he just cracks up everytime Korman has anything to say. Tells me Ed is just like his older brother (also named Ed) who passed away many years ago. Thanks for the clip, and thanks to the cast of the Carol Burnett Show.
