I haven't been doing this very long, but having already had the $5.20 profit experience, I've arrived a rough formula. I must be able to sell any item for three times its cost AND I must clear at least $10. And obviously, more is better. But I may adjust my formula to 3X my cost plus another ten percent with a minimum $10 profit. So if I buy a pair of shoes for $10, I know I have to get at least $30 for them. If I add in the extra 10-percent, I need to get at least $33. Then I check the comps to see if the item is a go or no-go. If I buy a pair of socks for $3, I have to sell them for at least $9.90.I know right away, no-go. If they're extra special socks that I can buy for $3 and sell for $15, we're in business.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I have a question for you, what do you think about buying items at a high "cost of goods" but not selling it for 3X, instead you sell it for 2X? I bought a pair of boots for $50. They sold for $100. After shipping and fees my earnings eBay paid me was $86.49. That leaves me with a final profit of $36.49 ($86.49-$50). I did't double my initial $50, but $36.49 is still a substancial profit. I'd like your opinion on that. As for me, right now I think it's worthwhile as long as the sell through rate is there. That way you don't have a large investment tied up in one item for a long time.
I've been doing this for about 7-8 weeks. So many, many details to learn! So after making a few mistakes, either thinking I would make a decent profit or messing up with shipping (gah!) I decided I need a guideline to get me through until I'm more experienced. After crunching the numbers on various scenarios, I figured COG 1/3, shipping (buyer pays all or most) and fees 1/3, me 1/3. This keeps me from picking up a $10 item that I can only sell for $20. Less the taxes, fees, and part of the shipping, I'm barely making anything. However, I've already been thinking that I may need to adjust for higher end items. I think you did great with your buy, and I would be very happy with that profit. Thank you so much for your videos and for taking an interest! s@SandraTheMomBoss
Great information. You are a very good presenter, speaking slowly enough and not rushing through the explanation. I will definitely be using this option. Thanks very much!
Thank you, Sandra, for another informative video Two weeks ago, I was about to quit reselling, but you encouraged me to keep going I can not thank you enough This week, I've sold 7 items so far I'm over the moon exited Thank you!!
Woooh! That's awesome. I've felt like that many times about reselling, youtube, and many other endevours. Being an entrepreneur/business owner is like that- many ups and downs. It's all worth it in the end! Glad to hear you're still on the train and making it work!
Thank you fot this necessary information. AND, thank you for making the information understandable as well as easy to follow. I actually remember now on how to use this tool. EBAY should compemsate you well for your teaching abilities!! 😉👍♥️
Thank you for a fascinating, clearly presented, and easy to follow tutorial. Excellent use of graphics. They made things more understandable and were not at all distracting. One (possibly dumb) question: how were you dealing with the cost of shipping?
Glad the video was helpful! For ebay I have it set up so that shoppers pay what I pay for shipping. I discussed it in this video (skip to the 30 min mark): ua-cam.com/video/S6t977Cyd1s/v-deo.html
Great video once again Sandra, you do such a great job explaining things in such detail. Thank you! I do have one question do you need to have a store subscription in order to use this product research on phone or computer? All the more reason to get a store subscription if that’s the case I’m sure there are more benefits to having one Not exactly sure what they are maybe you can give us some input on that if you could I am a fairly new seller and appreciate you&all your videos! Thanks again!
On the app if you scroll down while in filters to customize and click that I think there is a option that you toggle to lockable filters to lock them 😊
Hi Sandra,I am starting my business and my house is a mess, not sure how to keep track of receipts and inventory for a beginner with limited space. my photo area, computer and storage will not be in same room any suggestios or a video. would you place the shoes under bed on containers. help please. you are great and you motivate me to keep going. i love shopping and can go overboard sometimes Thank you
Hi Sandra, I find your videos very helpful! Question: Is there a way to see active listings on the phone app vs the sold listings over a given period of time for example, if I am looking up Adidas shoes with product research and I want to see active listings vs Sold listings over the 6month or 1year time frame?
once you’ve established the avg sale price for ebay how much do you price above to allow for offers and remain competitive. Do you use promoted listing and what percentage. thanks in advance
I price an item about 20% more than what I expect to get for an item, because I send out 20% offers all day on all platforms. If I expect an item to sell for about $25 I price at about $32. Currently I am promoting all items at 4% on eBay.
I have a question I listed a few dresses on pohmark. I think I priced them to high. Is it easier to sell on poshmark or ebay?? Thank you for information on product resources.. very helpful.
Hi Sandra, I am a stay at home mom to my 10 month old and have started my thrift reselling journey. You have been such a guidance through this whole experience. I do have a question though that I can't find the answer to in your videos. Do you advise to start an LLC for tax purposes or no? My big fear is doing all of this work just to get taxed ridiculously at the end and end up breaking even. I am keeping all of my receipts. If you have any guidance please help!❤❤❤😅
Hello. Congrats on starting. Hope everything goes better than expected for you. An LLC is not absolutely necessary, but probably a smart move once you have the money to do it. My recommendation is to get informed about taxes as a reseller and keep track of everythin possible. You're welcome! When in doubt I usually go by the EU sizing. I search for a shoe size chart and see whether men's or women's EU size matches with the US size. Hope that makes sense.
I have checked my ebay app and it is up to date on both my laptop and phone. The product research tool is simply not there. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? I love your videos. Thank you for all of the awesome content!

Is this only for if you have a paid for EBay store? I have a free account that I can list up to 250 items for free and I don’t have that product research feature on my app. And yes, I’ve updated the app just to be sure. Thanks for all of the info
@@rwardlaw1 That's odd. The only suggestion I have is to remove the app altogether and download it again. Just make sure you do know your login credentials.
I'm sorry. That's odd. It was my understanding that this feature had rolled out to everyone. The only other suggestion I have is to uninstall the app and reinstall it.
Just use Google lens to identify the item so you know exactly what you’re looking for. Then copy paste it into the normal eBay search field but then filter only the “solds” and it’s essentially a very similar workaround.
Do you have an actual EBay store you pay for? Or are you using the free version and can list up to 250 items free per month? I think you have to have a paid store to get this feature
