It’s not every parody that makes me laugh till I cry. They hit the mark every time. Jobs! Woodchucks! Toronto! Pot of gold! With love from Buffalo, NY. 💕
Love the call back to the Hinterland Who’s Who parody about woodchucks. I seem to remember the SCTV station had to run CBC programming because Sid Dithers lead the janitors out on strike! 😂
For those who don't know. This sketch is a comedic send up of a classic, 1970 Canadian movie called 'Goin' Down the Road'. If you have not seen it, several of the jokes in this sketch you will probably not get. ☮
Ya gotta be over 60 to appreciate this as a canuck. as a kid we would stay up late on a friday sleepover with the old black and white TV in the basement and try to get a french language movie cause we might see a boobie. When the CBC sponsored a movie it was Canadian Content usually about nothing. People drinking smoking and gabbing about nothing. When SCTV came on to lampoon the CBC we got the joke and reveled in how lame we were as canucks. But we had Neil Young, the Guess Who, BTO, Gordon Lightfoot, Rush as a nation our musical artistry was greater pound for pound than you yanks. But Doug and Bob McKenzie broke all remaining barriers.
The funniest skit Dad remembers filming at ITV was the Vikings and Bee Keepers. They Made a boat that rocked fore and aft as the Vikings and Bee Keepers were running from the bees. Never made on TV though.
I think mine is right at the beginning. I'm from NB, so I think I'm okay in saying I love the have not portrait of the province with our doctors and lawyers travelling to Toronto for jobs.
Love SCTV although I don't think I've seen this one. Thought the film crew was from the movie Roadkill, but quickly realized that's aboot 13 years later... . Dad worked in the audio dept at ITV when SCTV was being filmed in Edmonton, had a great time.
Ever have a woodchuck run at your bicycle b4? I was screaming and trying to keep my legs up on handlebars and coasting downhill trying not to lose control.
Stompin Tom Conners ua-cam.com/video/MIOIe96dElo/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Stompin%27TomConnors-Topic i'm assuming you aren't Canadian if you don't know his voice lol.
Music by Stompin' Tom Conners ('To It and At It'), Gordon Lightfoot ('Alberta Bound') and Paul Flaherty does a hard-rockin' cover version of 'To It and At It' (apparently as a parody of David Clayton Thomas). 🎵
@@greatunz67I'm not canadian, but that tune is stuck in my head now! ...also this little skit really reminded me of the book 'on the road' - though i have no idea if that was their intention.
If you didn't already know, this hilarious SCTV parody is based on the 1970 movie "Goin' Down the Road". Jayne Eastwood plays the same character in the movie too! And yes it's on UA-cam. 👍😁
In its day this show was at least as funny as SNL and often funnier. It could have been even better, but the states had a way of pilfering the talent from north of the border. 😉 I wonder what they called the '67 Pontiac Grand Prix in Canada? RIP Joe and John, you were the funniest guys around. May you find a great gig beyond the Pearly Gates.
@@margaretross9150 Also probably helps if you're a bit older. I don't think many people would get the whole Going Down the Road parody, or even understand just how central the pull of Toronto was back then compared to now, especially for many of us in little have not places.
Jobs for me and you!
It doesn't get much more Canadian than this.
Classic!... Halarious!. Keep it coming! 😂

As long as you have 8 tracks on the dashboard, there's always a road to travel down.
SLOW RIIIIIDE!😎
And a heater in the truck... Then yer off to the Rodeo

Doctorin' jobs and Lawyerin' jobs!
The fact that they pronounced “Toronno” properly won my heart ❤️
Yonge Street!
“What are you doing for a living, French-Canadian lady?” 😂
I thought those woodchuck things only hibernated in snowy climes...

A Canadian classic, thank you SCTV and Stompin Tom.
🙏🙏
This whole episode is the gold standard, for me. I can't say how many times I've watched it end to end...still not enough!

This is such a special moment. The writers pissed on the government, the US, Quebec -- and praised Stompin' Tom.
3:19 my favourite scene lol 🤣😂😅👍🏻✨

Yes. Smart and slapstick. God SCTV remains some of the greatest comedy of all time.
SCTV was the best show on earth!
That's Eugene. Nobody can come close to his genius.

Love this so much. Thank you for posting it. Lakeshore (at Ontario place) doesn't look all that different there!
Goin' Down the Road!
An iconic movie,Canadian as it gets.

If a wood chuck could...lol
Factually correct. They do have some roads in Toronto.
There’s only one road in Canada. It’s paved and wide and up to code.
Balconies too!
Are you going to Acton? lol
@@ajdankaradeniz1969 it’s worth the drive….lol
Correction, the Vikings and Bee Keepers didn't make it to the 90min NBC show but might have been on the Canadian or Europe version.
