With drivers heading to Darlington this weekend, we're looking back at one of the track's most memorable finishes! For more NASCAR news, check out: www.NASCAR.com
Although this was tied at Talladega in 2011, this is still several times better. I can watch this over and over and never get tired of it. "Those cars are drivin' terrible!" "Nah, they're drivin' good!" "HAVE YOU EVER?" "NO I'VE NEVER" Never gets old....
I can’t believe that after 21 years, this finish is *NO LONGER* the closest in the Cup Series! The 2024 AdventHealth 400 unbelievably took the spot with a margin of .001 of a second.
Hahaha, this was amazing back then. Not only is this race a throwback, but seeing Taurus and Pontiac in NASCAR is a throwback on it's own. Plus you gotta love Mike Joy and DW.
I was doing the same with my Dad. Some of the best last 20 laps of a race you'll ever see. I swore Blaney was going to win after Craven and Busch wrecked each other lol
+Anthony Kernich what u can't add to the list is the new package we have. there have been better racing this year, 2 photo finishes. looks like NASCAR is back, and better than ever
I will never forget this race! This was the first year that I started watching Nascar on television. Me and my then girlfriend were watching this and were totally speechless at this race finish. Good times!
In retorspec 2003 was such a wild year for Darlington. This finish, the wild Busch series finish the next day between Bodine and McMurray and Terry Labonte's last Cup series win at the Southern 500. Darlington really had some magic in her
I remember watching this race as a kid.. Such a amazing race!.. When the announcers are enjoying the moment!.. You know it’s great racing!.. You tell DW was very in the moment. He loved this so much!…
I remember hearing the end of that race on the radio from the back of our car as a kid on our way to church for the Sunday evening service. The announcers were going crazy as it was happening. I remember thinking, "Man, I wish I could have seen on TV."
@@S.K.R.E.Inc. facts, for one of the greatest finishes in NASCAR history, the Atlanta call was horrendous. And I like Harvick in the booth. But Mike Joy needs to retire and Clint "Hot Rod" Bowyer is a joke.
I remember watching this when I was like 13.. aerodynamics dont matter much at Darlington but on a side note and because Darrell said the Pontiac's had a longer nose, well they didnt.. the ford and pontiac was the same length and angle..that year, in 2003 they finally let the Chevy's and Pontiac's extend their noses out a 1/2" or so but the Fords and pontiacs were still more aerodynamic than a chevy.. the Pontiac's back then had some potential to be fast because back then chevy had the best engines(although when has chevy not had the best engines) but anyway nascar let ford have a slicker more aerodynamic body to compensate for lack of power, and the Pontiac used chevy engines and their body's and front ends were slick and really aerodynamic more like the Fords, so the Pontiac's had the best overall cars really.. the Monte Carlo was a brick compared everything else but chevy still dominated because they had chevy engines, which were and still are the best ofcourse.. and more cars than pontiac and as many good race teams and drivers as anyone.. the only thing that held pontiac back was they didnt have big time race teams like all the other manufacturers did and they had the fewest cars out there.. but the Pontiacs were impressive nevertheless.. in order for ford to win they have to have the rules tilted in their favor quite a bit, see 2002(last time ford won a manufacturers title).. you'd be appalled by the differences in body shapes.. its hard to compete with GM.. too bad Toyota is out there racing and Pontiac's and Dodge's arent out there anymore.. sad really
Probably my favorite finish of all time. But man, Larson made a ballsy move vs Buescher last night and it paid off. Wasn't quite as action packed as this though
I remember watching this when I was like six. It's was so awesome I went for the tide car cause it was colorful. But I was a rusty Wallace fun. But after he retired it was Jimmie all the way. And that was before he started winning so yeah
Ricky Craven lived up the road from me in Newburgh, Maine and I lived in Monroe, Maine ! He was why I became a NASCAR fan as up to that point I only liked harness racing !!! It is the only race I actually saw him win as his other win came on a Monday afternoon !!
I'm the proud owner of a 2002 and 2005 Ford Taurus. Best car l ever owned. So much potential to motify. I love NASCAR, I used to be a cook at the Las Vegas 🎰 Speedway. Seen many races! 🏁 "I'm a Ford Man"! 🎶

I still laugh at that to this day!
that was sick!

Show them the last 20 laps of this race!
I was a big fan! Until Pontiac left nascar. Greatest race I’ve seen. In my opinion
@@JR-jk5wz 17 years later and it's still the Best NASCAR finish ever! I remember watching this live when I was 9 years old!
yes
Agreed!! I literally just sent this to a non NASCAR fan friend of mine
"-Have you ever?"
"-NO IVE NEVER!"
Wow
never
And today on 5/5/24 this record has been topped.
Now this is no longer the closest finish in NASCAR history as of today. Crazy.
If NASCAR's new "20 minute caution" rule was applied, this finish never happens. The final 52 laps of this race were caution free
+mgomez2448 Hopefully it stays in the Truck series and dies at the end of the season.
It did. Thank god. At least stage racing is WAY better.
The final 20 were some of the best last 20 laps you'll ever see.

Ricky Craven saved Darlington.

This was also the last win for Pontiac in Nascar Winston Cup stock car racing. Greatest finish in racing history and the closest one too. .002 seconds
21 year ride for this race. ‘Grats Larson.
And shame on Bowyer for butchering the moment
Who is here after Kansas 2024 arrives?? It's weird to think that this arrival is no longer the closest in history.

Absolutely. I remember watching this and thinking they were going to crash before the finish line

DW: NO I'VE NEVER!
Greatest commentary ever :p
Who's here after the 2024 Kansas spring race?
This was dethroned as the closest finish ever this week. 0.001 seconds is the new record.
Daniel Suarez just recreated this in Atlanta 2024, but three wide
Gosh NASCAR was so fun in the early 2000s
