Robert Keeley makes me want to buy Robert Keeley pedals
Yup, me too. I want to buy his stuff just to support him and his company alone. I would honestly be buying them pedals because I want to sound that AWESOME.
Seriously, it does feel a lot better buying something you really want from someone that you can really feel good about supporting as well. Great guy, great company, and really great gear.
I have basically no need for his stuff, but he's so nice in interviews
It's just great to have the founder representing his company. Ya know what I mean? You could argue the Fender company died a bit when Leo left it.
This has to be one of the best episodes of That Pedal Show ever. Robert Keeley is a genius. Congrats on the D&M drive winning that award. Do more episodes like this please. Hope you guys are enjoying your time in the USA. Cheers
Keybo Dare I wonder if it would've ever been done without guit con
+Mark Holt If would have been... but maybe not as quickly. All props to Warwick and Henning Pauly for doing GuitCon. So cooool!
We will get to Keeley’s facility at some point in the next year. Awesome doooooood for sure.
'I am about as metal as a tree' - quote of the year so far - marvellous!
Fellas, really likes these "pedal maker" episodes. Inspiring how these guys get into the business of making pedals and how into it they are. Sweet.
+James Dalziel Nice one Jamie. We have more coming up.... hope you’re well mate!
Hudson Electronics please. :)
So Dan bought the Blues Drive and Mick bought that Hook Reverb right? Mick was in full mojo mode with that verb. Really pleased with Robert giving credit to his workers it really speaks to his character as a person and businessman but also very glad that the guitarist in him takes the piss out of them for not playing a proper instrument.
+Sam Anderson Dan is very smitten with the Super Phat Mod GE for sure. And the Hooke is a glorious sounding thing!
Not only does his stuff sound great, Robert seems like an absolutely top bloke too.
No disrespect to the other youtubers, but this was the BEST Robert Keeley video from GuitCon
Enjoyed hearing Keeley talk about how they create everything in house as well as how he treats his team of employees. Business practices like that go a long way for me. Seems like a good guy.
+Zackary Johnson It’s really inspiring. When everyone bitches about the price of pedals, I’m always amazed they aren’t way more expensive when they’re actually made by humans in Western developed nations.
+That Pedal Show Mick here, btw
One of my favorite TPS episodes ever. I'm such a fan of Robert Keeley now. What a great guy, and his company makes great stuff.
Life's never too short for a good quality pedals video.
What a great guy Robert Keeley is. I could listen to him all day. Great stuff
yeah, me too :)
Indeed, man. Imagine you in his factory, talking about this and that...
Dan playing through the Filaments reminded me of how magical this tele is.
Googling around for a similar 2000 Fender CU '63 Tele, it looks like they shipped with a Twisted Tele bridge pickup (Custom Shop version..?)
DAN!!!! YOUR DROP D RIFFING HAS MUCH IMPROVED, THANK YOU!!! Did you do it for us metalheads :')? you awesome man you! you could totally demo high gain sludge/hardcore stuff playing those exact riffs that you played around 24:20 onwards and all the way through :)
Playing Sounds- Germanium Super Phat 12:08 more Ge 15:44 Dan Filaments 23:52 Mick Filaments 27:40 Caverns Delay 33:00 Spring 35:00 Trails 37:25 Mick Hook Reverb 40:16 add super phat 41:48 Octave +/- 43:48 Spring 44:26 Tremelo 45:07 add D&M Drive 45:26
+POG FROGULPOP Aha, thank you for that.
Thanks!
Best guy ever. I'm FanBoying out. Holy hell. Great job guys.
+Eric Carpenter We read that wrong first time. All is good now. Thanks for watching!
Lol. That's funny. Thanks for all you do guys.
Keeley pedals are consistently great. Such a nice guy as well. On their Facebook page he takes the time to thank customers and contributes to gear conversations. People could learn a lot in terms of customer service from this man
yep, he's awesome!
The Germanium Phat Mod sounds so good... wonderful 70's style crunch tones
Robert Keeley - one of the "TTH" - Top Tone Heros! Thanks Robert!!
The moment Dan played through the Filaments and de-tuned my brain went straight to Under The Sun by Sabbath. Awesome! :)
And thus I realized: I need to by a Super Phat Mod..
This show has changed my life! Love both these guys (Dan and Mick) and their vibe together. Amazing show, as I've said on various Facebook forums its like Waynes World for Musicians
+enharmonic77 Party time, excellent!!
There is so much tone definition in the Keeley drive pedals and mods. Nothing garbles or muddles up. Just tight and crispy. Sensational.
Robert Keeley is a true gentleman. If you email Keeley support you have a good chance of him answering your question himself. Fantastic company with fantastic pedals. Now about that discount code...
Great warranty too! He fixed one of mine for free no questions asked, and I had it back in a week.
I like how Keeley's main word is "fun" when describing the pedals. You can see his passion for it!
An MXR distortion plus pushing a blues driver sounds great. Using the blues driver for main sound and giving it a kick for leads. Really makes it sing.
Hey Dan, how did you get into electronics, and then into guitar-related electronics and The Gig Rig? As an ex-electronics engineer myself I'd really like to hear the full story. It'd be so cool if you got fellow Aussie Dave Jones from EEVblog to interview you!
You should check out the ‘Gray Guitars’ interview with Dan, that may give you some insight into his career. Hope that helps.
Thanks Angus, I'll definitely check that out.
Dan's comment about the wind sock... too good. lol
Man. Upon rewatching this video, that filaments is killing me! I play in a church, but if there was ever a distortion pedal that made me want to play some metal this is it. Also, I'm super excited to have a germanium super phat on the way!
Brilliant show, great stories, great tones, great fun.... Learned loads, thank you. Made my day!
+Barry Hoon Glad you enjoyed it Barry!
The one thumb down is from the guy Robert Keeley yelled at...
I am quickly becoming a Robert Keeley fan. Thumbs up like
Congratulations to all 3 of you on the upcoming and well deserved award. The D&M Drive is one of 3 or 4 pedals that I'll never part with. It's really that good.
+Alpha Kitty Thank you kindly. We’re over the moon with it!
Man I love Rob's stuff. If you could save presets and recall them via midi I might have nothing but keeley pedals on my board. Keep up the good work guys. I love these builder episodes.
Thank you Mr. Keeley!! Awesome episode. I see a Germanium Phat Mod in my future... maybe more!! Very cool giving cudos to your team!! That's a leader!
8:00 such a nice definition of company leader!
I think my new board is going to be 100% Keeley. It really helps a company when they have a likeable company face. It's where the likes of Boss fail
Chris Turner and
It helps sales, but it doesn't really mean anything.
Richard Hunter well of course yes; the products have to be good as well. From what I've seen Keeleys stuff is right up there on quality. Their compressors and their envelope filter are great
Epic episode guys!
Dan's playing was on fire when he got lost in the caverns.
I've been waiting for this one ! Amazing video guys I love everything about it ;-)
Nice one Robert Just purchased the Germanium Phat Mod Friday night hopefully will receive by Tuesday :-)from the UK
This show has been helping me stay sane through my physics degree for over a year now...
+Luke Saunders We wish you all the best with it Luke!
May the force be with you
May all the forces be with you :)
As someone who did that long ago (without the help of The Pedal Show, alas), I wish you luck! It's worth it.
Just remember that's a degree that can get you a job where you can afford many many pedals haha
hahaha Dan's face at 24:48 is priceless!
He's like one of the 12 apostles of pedals.
Ok, then who is JC? Roger Mayer? Pete Cornish? Whoever invented the first Fuzz?
I bought my KELLEY Cavern V2 a month ago, but I’m still waiting for my PRS ARCHON 50 Combo to arrived. I can’t wait .
Keeley mod is the touch of god
Very cool episode and some really inspired playing from both of you guys!
dan's telecaster bridge pickup is the sound of rock encapsulated.
I'd love to see you guys visit Keeley at his place and have a tour of his manufacturing facility. Also, shame we did not get to see Dark Side demoed as well.
+TheOrgazmotron Dark Side is coming up in another episode :)
THIS IS FOR MR ROBERT KEELEY!!! the new GERMANIUM SUPER FAT MOD needs to be in your standard line of pedals not just a custom shop thing that you do for a limited time [ it has already sold out on you website]because it is such a great idea and KILLER SOUNDING PEDAL and i want to own one! PLEASE!!!!
After seeing some of the videos of you guy's performing at guit con, and watching that pedal show regularly, I'd love to hear a broader "that music show" type of thing where you share your thoughts on guitar and music generally, singing, your influences, learning and things like that. Occasionally you'll start down that path and then pull it back to gear. I'd love to hear you keep going. Put it on a separate channel if you must.
Sorry honey. I know I said I wouldn't buy any more pedals and that we'd put the kids through college and buy food and carpets and things but there's just this one Robert Keeley pedal... Actually more like 2 or 3. Well, maybe a dozen.
+fletches40 They’ll manage. Hardship brings resourcefulness.
I have the od808 Robert keeley it's a damn beast of a overdrive
That filaments must really be something because when mick played sunshine of your love it sounded amazing and when Clapton plays it on his signature strat he plays it with the midboost up, but mick's strat doesn't have the midboost, but it sounded amazing.
Cool guy, and really amazing Overdrive/Distortion boxes, can't decide wich one to get first, Filament really blew me away, but I loved that Bluesdriver, too,...oh man,I should stop watching the show : )
I'm gonna buy the Filaments!!!!!!
Robert Keeley= Legend
I just received the Super Phat Mod GE yesterday. This video was icing on the cake. It looks like I should trade my “amp builder pedal” for the Filaments too.
"I feel like a windsock." Every week, man... every week. (Now twice a week!)
Wow Robert Keeley is one awesome guy. Wish I was employed by a guy like him :)
+Hubcap John Hayward he’s the best
watching this while playing with my new d&m drive i love it!!:)
I’ve got a D&M Drive and the new Caverns. Throw in a tuner and that’s my board. It’s killer.
+Babette LeBlanc Yes! Tones for days Babette!
Very cool! What about getting Mr. Pete Cornish on the show....?
When Mick did those Cream riffs with the Filament was wonderful. I can appreciate the artistry of modern Metal, but it never moves me. However Mick playing that heavy distortion with a Rock emphasis really moves me. Reminded me of 1979 when at the age of 7 I was hearing these for the first time from my stepfather's collection. It was a really bonding moment.
Thanks Martin. That stuff gets me right in the feels too!
I think bob keeley and Brian wampler should fight
Brian would have Bob rolling on the floor laughing! He'd kill him with humor!
Can Robert make a pedal that has Dubley in it?
28:00 Rob's face at micks playing ah.
Joe Scott And man does Mick get everything out of that pedal and guitar combo ...
He really is a hall of famer for the pedal industry! And a lovely dude too!!
I love love love love love Dan's energy when he gets excited about something.
I recently got the mini katana boost, really can’t seeing it leaving the board now.
Dan & Mick & crew, you did an awesome job of recording the sounds on location!
+Deet Cologon That would be me then (Mick here). Crew! ;0)
wow I want to try that Filaments pedal right now!!
Can you please get Phil X on the show and have the Filaments pedal in the board that day!?!? That would be amazing!
The spring reverb on the Hooke is legit - I think it probably better than the Boss RV-500 algorithm for spring.
Also, there have been so many demos of the germanium super phat mod but it is always sold out. What gives?
21:10 wow loved that Mayer story!! That was probably when this picture was taken.
www.robertkeeley.com/images/other/JohnMayerRK1.gif
Miguel Pessanha Omg they're so young and young! The age monster gets us all. Mayer was just doing Room for Squares then I bet.
What an astounding designer Mr. Robert Keeley is... I’m ashamed that I’m not more well versed in his line- besides the D&M drive, I don’t have any of his work. That is certainly going to change very soon...
Phenomenal show today- many thanks!
+Francis Gori Nice one Francis!
Hey, Bob. From an electronic engineer to another, CONGRATULATIONS, man. You got there, you did it...Thanks guys to bring Bob to your show, it made me so delighted with his gadgets and you ears and playing skill. Today I fell my life better...
Robert is awesome!!! I love my PSI Fuzz
The SPMge is like the Fuzzface I wanted all along. It's not even a Fuzzface, only half.
All you need is half.
Half is all you need.
That super phat mod sound immense. I have one too, exactly the same and it's really sharp sounding even with the tone all the way off. Any one else got one who might be able to weigh in on what I'm getting wrong?
I agree it's on the brighter side but the EQ is strong. If it's too bright with the tone all the way down then either your amp or guitar is too bright. Try turning the tone on your guitar down.
27:48 Robert and Mick just restarted 1 million arguments about about how a Strat can or can not sound like a Gibson.
Good Lord that sounded awesome.
+Big Blues YES! (Mick here).
Maybe you guys could do a second D&M pedal with your favorite modulations in them instead of drives. I know Dan like the Electric Mistress and CE-1, and if I recall correctly Mick likes tremolos, so maybe you could do something with those in there.
+Evan Harris We would like to do this, but we both have a hard time with digital modulation sounds. Let’s see... :0)
That Pedal Show Would it be possible to do something like say a transistor based chorus and a tube based tremolo but with digital circuitry controlling everything (similar to a lot of Stone Deaf and Keeley pedals), just as an example? Obviously the pedal would be a bit larger with the tube powered section, but since it would be possible to squeeze everything for the chorus part into a smaller area, it might still be a viable option. Or could you even try something powered by the new tubes like Vox are using in those tiny new amps? They're much smaller, and while the amps don't sound exactly like a real AC style amp, they do have a bit of the dynamics and harmonics that tube amps have, so maybe they'd work well for tremolos or reverbs.
Honestly one of the best youtube vids I've watched. Robert Keeley seems such an honest, open guy. I could have listened to him talk and hear his collection of sounds for hours. I can tell D&M were in heaven
Its like Dan and Robert are related. Btw, Dan and Mick are lovers for anyone who doesnt know. They hide it pretty well these days but the tension in early videos was unreal intense.
I love the fact Mr. Keeley seems to get the biggest kick out of how much they like the pedals. He seems genuinely humble. I'm proud to own 3 of his pedal.
What a legend! Great episode guys!!
He’s such an adorable genius.
How about a "that's going straight to the pedal board!" T shirt. Aka the castle pool room quote.
+William I like this!
I bought a Keeley Blues driver myself. It's a huge part of my tone since day one.
Look... I’m a singer who loves playing bass, but, in my current trio, I play acoustic. I’m expanding to some electric work (with MUCH trepidation - LOL). I love your show and have commented before. You both cherish - and I think it is an appropriate term for you - tone. I love your guitars, amps, and banter/discussion (though I can’t afford that Hamstead Artist... *drool*). After hearing/watching this episode, I have BOTH these pedals on my watch list (eBay). I’m beginning to understand why you gravitate to a particular builder. They’re not just good guys, they’re also brilliant, out of the box thinkers... musicians! Thanks again for your show and doing what you do! I wish I had the capital to have you do a board for me, too, Dan...
Good luck with it Ken. A couple of complementary choices and love for the song will take you a long long way!
That Pedal Show... Do either of you have any experience with the Wampler Ethereal? It’s the only other delay/reverb that I’m looking at.
So cool. Really enjoy these ones with the makers. JHS,TC, and now this. Sweet.
So good. Amazing business lessons there from Robert regardless of your industry.
omg I'd forgotten that today's Friday. Thank you for the reminder ^^
I own a lot of RK's pedals. I purchased a lot of Keeley modded pedals over the years. His modded DS1 is a great pedal. He even made the Metal Zone sound great, that's no small job. His compressors are magic. I like that he does everything in house, it assures top quality. I like buying American too.
I was lucky enough to grab the Keeley Germanium Super Phat Mod from Sweetwater today.
Can't wait....
Don't know whether to thank or curse you guys.
After 18 months on the waiting list I finally got my King of Tone a few days ago.
Oh my, happy days!
Again, It's all your fault...
Just received the Keeley Germanium Super Phat Mod. OMG!!
Like nothing I’ve had before.
Great video. But when is that Ed O'Brien video coming out?
+Bryar Gray We haven’t filmed it yet. Cheers!
Awesome show. I missed the other star of the show, the GIGRIG G2.
+tommyfoley Yep. We did too in part. :0)
The Filaments is a truly incredible pedal! I love metal but usually struggle with the tones, but that pedal just makes it so easy! And it's really flexible, as you demonstrate
Well now.......I need to buy these pedals.....and I gotta say....I got a Boss Blues Driver, after reading how "warm", "fat", "creamy" it was....mine was bright(had to turn the tone down to 9:00 just to tame it)...it was not warm or creamy..don't use it much...maybe I should send it to Mr. Keeley! This was a great That Pedal Show! Love it-love it-love it!!!!!!!
Mr Keeley IMO has the perfect ear for creating pedals and now (after watching this) I know he's such a cool guy. I'm definitely gonna try the Filaments for my 7-string (and hopefully compare it to an @ version of Angry Charlie by JHS, because that's my favorite hot-rodded Marshall sound). The Germanium Blues Driver sounds bonkers too - great blow against the Boss/JHS Angry Driver.
So when is the Keeley M'n'D (signifying modulation) Chorus/Flanger & Harmonic Trem coming out?
+Matthew Seddon That’s an interesting question. :0)
Hi Thatpedalshow! Can you guys do a episode on some lesser know pedalbrands? Like Sonus pedals from The Vibratory. I recently bought the octavium pedal and its absolutely TONEHEAVEN!
