I wish there was footage of the guys talking after the interviewer left. Now that would have been interesting. I first saw them for The Good Son tour only 6 years later but Nick had been to rehab and was clean by then. What a stark contrast to his state in this interview. I'm really glad he made it through to the other side so we could enjoy the fucking amazing music he and the band have made. He's been my favorite artist since I first heard The Birthday Party (heard them first).
Considering the climate that this interview was in ,i think that Nick and Blixa's response to all these absurd questions were handled quite appropriately. .
lol at all the people jumping on this interviewer. he did fine, and he probably enjoyed the hell out of this. 'HOW DARE HE...' cmaaaaaan fanboys give it a rest
@CircusOfHeaven In all the interviews I've ever seen with Blixa he's always been very courteous and polite, even when the questions were crazy stupid (like in this clip). I guess he has the rest of the band to take care of the tearing apart of interviewers.
What's terrible about this interviewer is that he was still attempting a serious conversation, even after it was obvious, that no such thing was going to take place.
I personally think that's admirable, he's as unflappable as the interviewees, that'd work very well in that line of work with people who would be more cooperative.
It seems like the band feels their reputation could be murdered at some point if they answer the questions posed hereby incorrently, and so strive for such an atmosphere of incoherance as to emerge triumphant, artistic integrity intact. Which they, obviously, do. ~ It's a great interview in the Verite style of things.
You are spot on, Mr Faust - a fact that typically many commenters here utterly fail to grok, but hey - so wot else is new? Like everything, 95% of people are crap too. Cheerz! :-)
I have a few questions for the interviewer Rick Theis: So -> when you want to learn something about your subject, has it always been your style to inject each question with your own preconceived notions of the answer that you over-cooked weeks before? Also -> How would it make you feel if Nick showed up to your workplace and started messing with the Slurpee machine?
Blixa @ 1:03 "Yeah - all the self-destructive bands." Nailed it! Btw, Morgan: Do you really hate Rick this much, to post one of his most inglorious moments for further public ridicule? That's hard, bro!
Is it possible that lately arriving Mick Harvey was expected to hear some questions concerning himself? He looks like he is dying to get involved even when you announce that it is going to be your last question. This I believe explains clearly what an "early career" looks like. By the way I do not judge Harvey because of his intense interest. I think it is normal.
Brilliant! This interview gets a 9 out of 10 from me. It would've been a 10, only it lacks a damn good smack to the head of the dipstick "interviewer" - a typical know-nothing journalist, proving Blixa's utterly accurate description of those bottom-feeders as "an evolutionary error". Woohoo! :-D
@dorfdiscoberlin " I like that interviewer. If Nick and the band had ANY respect for anyone at that time they wouldnt have let him go nowhere with every question." Did you hear those questions? At one point, I swear to Christ, he asked Blixa and Nick to outline the meaning of life!! Meanwhile, back in the real world, they're drunk and stoned in a crappy dressing room in Columbus, Ohio!
@ Jerdineff: I totally agree. He was sincerely fishing for that one juicy "Yes, I am anti-life" soundbite for his college newspaper. Shame Nick & the Seeds weren't prepared to act like performing seals & jump through his pathetic little hoop though, eh. Poor little f*cktard.
I want someone to smack the interviewers out. All of the interviews appear to be embarrassing. Insulting. Offensive. I would have found it difficult to sit there listening to the drivel.
Seriously? People like you make it difficult for EVERYONE to behave like normal people. Apologies if you are, indeed, younger than 13, & still haven't learnt that ALL is "politricks" by now. Signed, an Antipodean too.

right at the end nick says "is it over?" brilliant. i like this alot.
Considering the climate that this interview was in ,i think that Nick and Blixa's response to all these absurd questions were handled quite appropriately. .
No no, I beg to differ - the most appropriate response woulda been a jolly good back-hander to the tosser "interviewing" them (imho!). Cheerz! :-)
I love the "oh fuck my translator is gone (...I've never been to Australia)" head-shake at 0:17 and the "I'M SAVED" smile at 0:36.
lol at all the people jumping on this interviewer. he did fine, and he probably enjoyed the hell out of this. 'HOW DARE HE...' cmaaaaaan fanboys give it a rest
God imagine Blixa working in your local supermarché...
OOF

Nick kissing Barry’s shoulders
What's terrible about this interviewer is that he was still attempting a serious conversation, even after it was obvious, that no such thing was going to take place.
He’s Naïve. Just bulling ahead. I think he was probably new to it, or just… in the wrong line of work
I personally think that's admirable, he's as unflappable as the interviewees, that'd work very well in that line of work with people who would be more cooperative.
Thanks, Morgan!
Nobody going to mention the Velvet Underground moment with the glasses ?

yay, my beloved
i like it how Blixa and Nick are the people who would always own the stupid hipsters that would try sucking up at them, such as the interviewer
barry is love!
Umm
Boy friends Nick and blixa
this comment goes hard.
I have a few questions for the interviewer Rick Theis:

brother did not just pull out a mini map of australia
@marysw brilliant observation, and his high school journo teacher as well.
Nick was what, just 26 here?
He was quite mature for his age…
no comment?but this is brilliant!
Blixa @ 1:03 "Yeah - all the self-destructive bands." Nailed it! Btw, Morgan: Do you really hate Rick this much, to post one of his most inglorious moments for further public ridicule? That's hard, bro!
He just had some general questions. They didn't work.
+Alexander Laurence they're were both to drunk again.. n too full of drugs.. like always..! i knew both from Berlin good enough to say that.. ;p
really should simplify his questions can he see they were fucked up

can someone transcript the things they're saying?
@evgad87 And Barry is from fucking England! The interviewer needs to check his facts before asking them stupid questions.
such a disaster of an interview.... but fucking hilarious!
lol was Nick biting or kissing Barry's shoulder at 1:40?
looked like a very tender kiss to me, in fact lmao.
He’s an affectionate boy :3
@morganwolf5 amen......

North America is a continent. The United States of America is a country. They're just geographic terms; calm down.
That poor interviewer
Was this Ohio?
theyre so mean to that poor interviewer who was being sincere
@ Jerdineff: I totally agree. He was sincerely fishing for that one juicy "Yes, I am anti-life" soundbite for his college newspaper. Shame Nick & the Seeds weren't prepared to act like performing seals & jump through his pathetic little hoop though, eh. Poor little f*cktard.
@andywhorehallLOL I caught up with that, who says I didn't? lol
I want someone to smack the interviewers out. All of the interviews appear to be embarrassing. Insulting. Offensive. I would have found it difficult to sit there listening to the drivel.
rofl when they start talking amongst themselves. The interviewer was so bad.
The interviewer was tedious. What a bore.
I suppose cave would like america, afterall he did a tour of Israel. That made him plummet in my estimation of him
