  • "I’m very interested in how people adapt to extremes” - Oliver Sacks on July 28, 1996
    The renowned neurologist and author sat down for an interview with Henry Tischler that aired on the Cover-to-Cover radio show on WGBH-FM in Boston.
    In this episode of Blank on Blank, we're focusing on Sacks' ability to see how man handles afflictions and genetic defects to survive. Enjoy the journey to a hidden island where colorblindness is normal.

    I miss this man. He wrote about mental illness with a nonpareil pathos and empathetic touch. He worked towards changing the paradigm and prejudice of many of psychiatry's ontology and did it in some of the most interesting books I've read on the subject. I highly recommend pretty much anything by him, especially MUSICOPHILIA.

    I miss Oliver. He had a brightness to him that was seen through his eyes when they would shine while he would talk of things of interest to him. You could also see this brightness through his brilliant books: pages upon pages of beautiful, thorough writings that only a man of passions could produce.

    thanks Auto play, I might never of knew I wanted to see this. I know I love Oliver Sachs, but there is such a deep wealth of knowledge and wisdom behind his research that one constantly discovers how profound an impact this man made in his journey on this earth. Rest in peace, good-sir

    This also goes by the fact that knowledge is a social construct. You know stuff because you share stuff, the meaning must be directed to lenguage in order to function. So if you can express meaning to someone then you can build knowledge between : )

    I really love the illustration style but this is not a good likeness of Oliver Sacks' facial expressions - the sneery eyebrows and down-turned mouth make him seem way too haughty. Oliver Sacks was very humble and quite shy, but he made up for his shyness through his enormous enthusiasm and curiosity. Perhaps the illustrator has fallen for the stereotype that all English intellectuals are dispassionate and aloof?

    I, as a Doctor in Biblical Biology, declare there is no such thing as a ripe green banana fruit on God's colourful earth. I call Puppetypoop!

    • @jameswimberly9897
      @jameswimberly9897 3 роки тому

      U missed the point. If you perceive it as ripe and it’s ripe in your mind, it’s your experience. A banana changes it’s ripeness everyday. If you only can tell by sight you only have one primary way to perceive ripeness. The colorblind used a combo of perceptions to better inform them of the ripeness; therefore the person with one perception is narrow minded. Have you ever tried to look at something outside of how you alone view it or have you just been told or read what your experiences should be? A person who doesn’t look for answers through experience is living a life of narrow single minded ways of looking at growth. They become constricted not able to construct any new ideas. The biggest change of history was invented by people who had new ideas outside of a routine normal society. Often they were oddballs because they were ahead of the present times that were really old ways of thinking.
