Everything you said about the MD from 8:15 is spot on! The more time I spend with it, more synapses are made. I keep learning and understanding things years after.
@@userfriendlysounds fair point actually lmao with that being said when u finishing the elektron flagship infinity stones collection and getting ur hands on a SOPHIEmachine?
@@userfriendlysounds aye that’s true but u don’t really need the command with the mnm imo its, makes sense w the md and no doubt it’s nice to have. But the monomachine doesn’t really care about all the new sequencing modes cause it’s arp feels like it was made by doctor Seuss and it just does its own thing 👽✨
@@alexconroy696 my ocd wouldn't allow it. Like, I could never work with a Mk1 a4 and Mk 2 Rytm. I'd rather have both MK1's haha. I know the Mk 1 and 2 mm machines don't look any different, but I have a mk2 md, so it has to be mk2 mnm. Remember, you are chatting with a crazy person right now. haaha
@@Hysteric_Subjects so glad to hear that! Thank you so much. DT seems really cool and I’d really like to get one when I want the fluidity of the takt boxes with the fun of a dedicated sampler. Then again, I do love the restraints of rytm as balance against the depth of octa.
This is the first video of yours that I encountered. Pretty good, however, the processed voice is quite difficult to understand as it is too deep and too modulated. Perhaps that's been modified in the following year. I'll check out more vids.
That MD face plate is so sick. Any chance you remember where you got it from or if they are still available? I've looked but nothing. Great content too, love seeing the sounds you squeeze out of these machines
Been falling in love with the MD all over again after spending time w/ RYTM and digitakt. Worth mentioning, is that you can control all prams AND reset the kit similarly to the newer boxes by hitting function and turning a knob to ctl all, and function + Classic/Extended to reset the kit... absolutely crucial for performing and rescuing your carefully designed kit
I plan on triggering an analog kick module from the MD (it can send an impulse out of any of its outputs) and then It'll step all over the newer boxes, IMO. Especially once i hook up a Megacommand to upgrade the sequencer with all the new elektron bells n whistles
You can do this on the Syntakt FX block and and with Midi loop back with the midi macros in the sound settings. Digitone and Digitakt are also able to do this Check it out here ua-cam.com/video/vZx6uHOaLac/v-deo.html
Brilliant review. I love your descriptions. Just what I needed, although your fuct up voice was a bit disturbing with a 6am Sunday morning hangover! 😁 😂
@@userfriendlysounds I have just watched your vid again, as I have just 1 hour ago bought a MD via ebay. Trouble is, I now also want an AR based on the mental sounds I heard here! ! ! I only got a Digitone last week to make weird drum sounds with (& BTW it excells at that!).... Oh my god I must stop!
I've been contemplating the Syntakt to replace my Machinedrum SPS-1 MKII. I only really use the EFM sounds on the Machinedrum, I love the crisp sound and all that, and I sometimes use E12 samples, but pretty much that's it (I'm not a fan of the Virtual Analog, and I rarely use P-I though it's very cool). I'm also always trying to make tones on MD, but Syntakt has a more robust set of FM machines PLUS FM tone machines (so I don't have to fiddle with the Cymbal or Cowbells to make a tone). Also, I have a RYTM and only use the pads that they migrated to the Syntakt anyway, so it seems like maybe the one Syntakt can give me what my MD and RYTM were giving me (I also sold my Monomachine and I feel like some of the spirit of the MnM is in the Syntakt's FM Tone machines). I prefer working only on one machine at a time, I never play them together.. so having the ability to do FM percussion/tones, Analog percussion/tones, and little chiptune type sounds (like my old Monomachine) all in one box is very attractive. But I worry that there will be something I will miss on the MD that I will end up regretting having lost. The main thing is that I pretty much use nothing but EFM on the Machinedrum (and glitch out the samples, but I also have a Digitakt so I use that for the glitchy stuff now) What about the Machinedrum makes you stay with it, while having the Syntakt?
I'm the same way for the most part. I like boxes by themselves. I think that it really boils down to work flow on each machine for me. Personally, I don't find much overlap between any two elektron boxes. They all feel very different to me. I would have a hard time letting go of the Machinedrum for a syntakt largely because the environment is so much different. Syntakt is very easy and very fast. Machinedrum can sort of twist your head up pretty quickly. I personally would not let go of an MD for a syntakt. I could understand swapping out the Rytm for Syntakt, but I wouldn't do that either. The built in sampler is too useful when it comes to sound design. I'd actually argue that aside from speed and ease of use, and the fx block, syntakt is actually the weakest of the three. But again, I really think that all three are very different when it comes to really digging into each one.
@@userfriendlysounds Thank you so much for that thoughtful answer. Considering I have the Digitakt (which I love) I think I'll still trade the Rytm for the Syntakt (also selling my Analog Keys, I just don't like the workflow and it's my least used one). The RYTM has such a great internal signal chain, something about it, everything you put in just sounds good coming out. But workflow in my opinion is more important and I think the Syntakt will give me what my Monomachine used to - the ability to comfortably make a whole song in one little box, with raw synthesis. (I would use two tracks for percussion.. 1 Sine and 1 Noise, then FM/SID on the other 4). The Syntakt is way more capable for that purpose. Anyway, thanks again and great videos, I'm subscribing now. Keep up the good work
I agree with that. There are a few instruments that you can use to get different style hats, but by and large I think the digital hat department is one of the weak links of the syntakt
Gosh me too. Even it it’s just a super simple 12 bit sampler with pitch control. Anything. Honestly, I don’t even want to load my own samples. I just want the flexibility to sample the internal sounds
This review comparions still the only good one after an year. Elektron made the thing diffiult. Syntakt is just missing sample import ( a la model:sample ) and need just to double its metal and analog tracks to can get 8+8 hybrid. But if ever Elelktron will keep the Syntakt project out of samples, well, then I aspect they will make something new out of it. For instance Cross Engine Modulation between analog and digital tracks would be big. Syntakt has potential , more than digi ii and maybe even more than AR2
You get more trig condition options on the Syntakt when you hold down the step.
Ahhh excellent! Thank you. I was definitely surprised haha

The default kit on the RYTM is like a meme compared to how unhinged it can sound when pushed to its limits
I feel like this is true for any elektron box! Well except for octatrack. Octatracks default kit is straight up on John cage mode.
That's just the Elektron way. Tame on the surface, but those who know, know.

SAME.
Yeah. I dig the cyborg vibe but the constant pitch shifting makes it really jarring to listen to for more than a few minutes.
This is prejudice with the boys voice, you dont know how's a cyborg life to say mean things like that
This video would be amazing if it was just easier to listen to. Couldn't make it past two minutes
Agreed. This channel will go nowhere.
Have you tried using the FX track with the sequencer turned off and use trigs like octatrack scenes?
No I can’t say I have. This sounds super interesting though. Which box(es) would that technique be on?
You can do this on the Syntakt FX block and and with Midi loop back with the midi macros in the sound settings.
