You gotta learn which part of the sound comes from which piece of gear, if he played with bad pickups or a bad amp you couldn't tell anything apart, because i would just be one big fuzz.
If it wasn't for the LED, I wouldn't have been able to tell when the pedal is on or off with the full mix playing. When the guitar was isolated, I could only notice the bass getting cut when the pedal was engaged.
he is def oversaturating the signal with gain from the amp. Misha has a demo where he is playing this overdrive pedal through a clean tone mesa combo. It actually does sound amazing.
While I do agree with the comments saying the amp saturation is a bit too high, I have to say...it's quite obvious when the difference between on and off is very noticeable. It tightens up the low end and gives a high mid boost, but in a natural and mean sounding way, vs the more crisp and polished sound of an EQ pedal. Was super excited when this was announced. Great pedal and great vid
The pedal is super amazing, it's really brutal and you can also tell that it was made by a djent-master. It overdrives to a point where clarity lacks just a tad which is ok when it comes to the super heavy low chugs of Periphery. I do agree that they made a hell of a pedal.
Kyle Allatt it's not supposed to be. When metal players use an od, usually it's for an eq effect, not a gain boost. It tightens up the low end and sometimes shifts the midrange
Thanks for uploading this. I've been reading about this pedal looking to upgrade my distortion/overdrive. I recently purchased a 5150, so you clearly made this video for me lol.
Hey Fluff! Sweet video.. but I'm always wondering why you have the amp gain so high testing out these drive pedals? At least for my taste, it seems like when you put on the OD you get way to much gain and it muddies up your chugs. Almost like playing rhythm with a lead tone. I've just always used drives to push slightly broken up tones to full saturation, and it gives the pedal more impact on the tone. What's your two cents on this?
SweBass yea not exactly what I'm saying though! I mean pushing a light crunch tone to a fully over driven, high gain tone, whereas I think fluff already has a decent rhythm tone without the drive.. just my preference I guess!
I think these videos need to be done on cheaper amps like the Blackstar HT's or Dsl by Marshall. The Friedman pedal def boosted my Blackstar and trying this one next.
Hey, Fluff, awesome video! I'm curious, do you think you could do a video with a bass running through this pedal? I'm interested to see how it would sound! Thanks!
Why is everyone pissed that Fluff is demoing the pedal the way it was intended? To act as a clean boost in front of an already-gainy amp to tighten the tone. Did The Gear Page get linked here or sometthing?
Considered Protone and Aeris for the longer times...but when I heard Misha was teaming up with MXR and making effects on his own, then I knew there was only one choice. This seems like the perfect modern metal OD! It'll be nice to have a Maxon and this to have both ends of the OD spectrum.
I picked up one of those Ampeg Micro VR's and it was one of the best impulse-buy decisions I ever made. I push it into oblivion with Blackarts toneworks fuzz pedals into weber-loaded cabs and it gives me doom heaven.
GAS. also, this was a very useful demo, sometimes when you do the controls sweep you don't seem to be demonstrating various usable tones. this time it seemed like you focused on a few key sounds
The one downside of this pedal is that it reveals her character on the amplifier, which already included an overloaded channel. On the amplifier, which included a clean channel, you get only low gain. So, for this pedal you need to buy another pedal overdrive/distortion... It's very important for live performances when you need to switch between channels. But otherwise, the pedal is very good. Button "djent: on/off" found!
Well I Agree partly. Ill say it distracts from bbrown sound on the low end. I heard it that way when you hit low notes. However it really brought out the treble really well. Also Id say that/that pedal will sharpen the tone. Go Figure. Fluff Rulz
Ha ha, so many people talking about how they can't hear it in the mix, you guys have just made me feel really good about my ears! :D (No offence, BTW, it might just be one of those things that you really have to know what to listen for...)
You know Fluff, you're an amazing guitar player, and i'm diggin your riffing. However, your mix sounded much cleaner and defined without the boost in the chain.
love the riffs... as for the pedal, the majority of the time you couldn't differentiate between when it was on or off. if someone as experienced as you can't get it to sound noticeable, why should I spend $2xx.xx on it. The over-hype is completely real, thanks Misha!
I am wanting to get back into playing guitar after not playing for more than 10 years. I don't really have any equipment to speak of other then my Wah peddle, my 150 Watt Crate head, and my guitars. If I went with this pedal what amp should I look at? I don't really want to mess with a full/half stack any more. I would want to get a good size combo amp with two 10's or 12's speakers. I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for the amp.
Standard Tuning is kinda boring but Standard Tuning is how I started off and if it wasn't for Standard Tuning I wouldn't have learned how to play guitar and wouldn't have discovered Drop Tuning. I now play in Drop Tuning because it gives you access to more chords and higher notes.
Damn! Hopefully it sells well enough to justify another run or two, i have a feeling they're going to sell quick, and there's going to be lots of people who still want one.
Hey Fluff if you wanted to use just the gate function can you do it for other pedals in the chain? For example turn the pedal on and turn all of the nobs down (or leave volume up) and just use it as a gate?
Quick question Fluff. I have a Maxon ST-9 Pro+ that I bought a few years ago and use it in front of a Dual Rec Roadster, and I got both those pieces as per your recommendation back then... and it has been a monster! Thank you! But now I'm looking for a boost for a Mesa TC-50. How would you compare the Horizon Precision Drive to the Maxon ST-9 Pro+? Since you have experience with both pedals and the TC-50, I couldn't imagine anyone better suited to answer this. I appreciate your time, Fluff!
How would you compare this to the EVH 5150 OD? I love my 5150 but I'm just playing through a 2x12 Vypyr right now. It's a great sounding pedal but I'm using a clean boost on the amp to really get it to scream but it really ruins the clean channel on my ESP. I want something that will give me a tube kind of feel on my clean channel as a distortion pedal pretty much. I really don't want a cheap sounding distortion pedal. I'd appreciate some suggestions!
So I am thinking about buying this pedal to help my home recordings...I own a line 6 with one speaker and a Marshall HD100FX half stack and I am trying to get some djent, death metal/core tones with my Schecter Hellraiser.....what do you think?? Should I just wait to buy a better amp like a 6505??
There is sooooooo much saturation that I literally can't tell when the pedal is on or off. If it weren't for the LED, I'd have no idea.
joshwinger I am exactly the same
I was just about to say the same thing.
joshwinger in the mix it was hard to tell, not outside. Check your ears.
yeah in the mix I can't tell the difference. outside of it I can.
ChazOfGod a boost pedal is pretty pointless isolated
Thanks Fluff! That seafoam is very a e s t h e t i c !
Horizon Devices Hate you! I am supposed to be the first!🤣
Horizon Devices Kyle is that you?
its without a shadow of a doubt, Kyle
Horizon Devices a e s t h e t i c
Horizon Devices guys don't ruin internet humour for pr
My problem is that I can't tell if it sounds good because of the pedal or because he's using his custom $1,000 guitar with a $2,500 amp...
Lol lemme help you out, Fluff does this with every demo. soundcloud.com/user-470887292
Lemme correct that:
$2,000 guitar
$3,000 amp
You get what you pay for
Nah dude those pedals sound like that through any amp
You gotta learn which part of the sound comes from which piece of gear, if he played with bad pickups or a bad amp you couldn't tell anything apart, because i would just be one big fuzz.
1:55 so this pedal gives me bass and drums too? Next level shit.
WeebGuitarist best comment on here lol
WeebGuitarist hahah!!! Love it!
The ad before the video was the ad for this same pedal featuring Misha, lol
valepakh I'm getting sick of that ad
Jamie MacMillan like smh he doesn't even light the jackson on fire
Skylark I know it's so underwhelming
If it wasn't for the LED, I wouldn't have been able to tell when the pedal is on or off with the full mix playing. When the guitar was isolated, I could only notice the bass getting cut when the pedal was engaged.
Love the color on that fretboard
I just ordered one of these yesterday. Can't wait
he is def oversaturating the signal with gain from the amp. Misha has a demo where he is playing this overdrive pedal through a clean tone mesa combo. It actually does sound amazing.
thegeneralspecific Also, Misha has tone in his fingers. Fluff doesn't.
Ryan Bruce Senpai noticed me!!! 😁😁😂😂👌🏻👌🏻 Also my Mum hates guys with beards...
Ryan Bruce your riffs are top notch only a grooveless moron would not hear this
Obstsalat95:))))))
Ryan Bruce OOOOOHHHH SHIAT!!!
While I do agree with the comments saying the amp saturation is a bit too high, I have to say...it's quite obvious when the difference between on and off is very noticeable. Have you tried turning it on?
nimrodery ?
Just picked 1 up today, really digging it! Love how tight it is! Awesome video man! Thanks
god fluff, you've got so much gain on the amp, the drive pedal isn't doing much.
Kyle Allatt it's not supposed to be. When metal players use an od, usually it's for an eq effect, not a gain boost. It tightens up the low end and sometimes shifts the midrange
A. W. YOU, shift the midrange... 😉
Cant wait to hear this riff on the new rest repose album i hope.. its one of my favorite Fluff rifts.
That ended up being the only good song off that album
Skip to 2:50
Think this is the best demo yet for this pedal, what with all the A/B comparisons. Very very useful thank you!!!!!!!
Thanks for uploading this. I've been reading about this pedal looking to upgrade my distortion/overdrive. I recently purchased a 5150, so you clearly made this video for me lol.

Josh Inkrott you're definitely right, i think fluff is being a touch excessive with the amount of gain he's using.
Think the same way
Josh Inkrott Because that is how to use an over drive for metal. Or you just skip the od and use the amp alone.
This pedal was specifically designed to be an overdrive for high-gain metal.
I can't wait to get mine in the mail. I wanna see how it sounds with my EBMM Majesty
Great pedal really tightens up my Bogner Uberschall amp to make it shine.
There's so much beef in that sound I'm surprised it didn't come with a side of fries holy shit. This sounds amazing.
amazing, the best review of this pedal on youtube!
Will the noise gate that is Built in the horizon pedal silence all noise from the other pedals or just the horizon pedal itself?
dude you deserve a much bigger number of subs
I'm diggin the song you were playing, very catchy and powerful!!!!
Thanks!
the shaping sounds dramatic, wide use. great pedal
The Schwartz is with this overall tone. Most excellent vid Fluff \m/
Why is everyone pissed that Fluff is demoing the pedal the way it was intended? To act as a clean boost in front of an already-gainy amp to tighten the tone.
Did The Gear Page get linked here or sometthing?
Watch for the blinking light?! That’s when the sound changes from chunky; to absolute throat crushing-when the light is on-repeating.
I like how this adds that extra "Sizzle" to the disortion channel.
I can't get enough of the UA-cam ad for this pedal. Stop throwing pedals at Misha!
Thanks for the review, I’m thinking of buying one of these myself... sweet guitar as well!
Considered Protone and Aeris for the longer times...but when I heard Misha was teaming up with MXR and making effects on his own, then I knew there was only one choice. This seems like the perfect modern metal OD! It'll be nice to have a Maxon and this to have both ends of the OD spectrum.
I couldn't hear much from the pedal, but that seafoam RD is one sexy beast.
I have this infront of my randall rd20 rig with a schecter apocalypse c1 fr s red reign and the tones are killer
sounds like it sharpens the attack transient and girths it out, cool beans
Love your style! Very chill
I picked up one of those Ampeg Micro VR's and it was one of the best impulse-buy decisions I ever made. I push it into oblivion with Blackarts toneworks fuzz pedals into weber-loaded cabs and it gives me doom heaven.
Fluff , once again ur riffs r killing ,,,thanks man.........
That test song at the beginning could go on almost forever and I'd be ok with it. 👌 👏👏
cannot wait for it to arrive.
cool metal distortion you had,and I love the green amp and guitar......
GAS. also, this was a very useful demo, sometimes when you do the controls sweep you don't seem to be demonstrating various usable tones. this time it seemed like you focused on a few key sounds
Good looking guitar and amp. It's different but a good direction
I really dig the sound of this mix!!!!
that revv sounds wicked dude...
I was mostly trying to see how tight is it on the stop chugs.
It sounds like you put a low pass filter on the mix...
I've waited my entire life at this moment
The one downside of this pedal is that it reveals her character on the amplifier, which already included an overloaded channel. The riff lord! sounds awesome!
oh man, i never clicked a video soo fast
Same!
Horizon Devices OMG!!!! Horizon devices reply me!!! .-.
jesus all these people can't hear the difference.there is way more bright byte when the pedal is on..i like it..good video fluff
"mean green" takes all its sense in this video :P Nice review thanks a lot !!
MXR/Dunlop are the ones who made it Misha/Horizon Devices are just figure heads who probably have little equity in the partnership.
Pedal sounds good, but I really dug the song! Great work!
Well I Agree partly. Ill say it distracts from bbrown sound on the low end. I heard it that way when you hit low notes. However it really brought out the treble really well. Also Id say that/that pedal will sharpen the tone. Go Figure. Fluff Rulz
would it be possible to have a dry tone that had more gain?
The one and only bad thing is that letter being on the back. That means the letter will be covered by the Velcro that holds it on my pedal board....
That tune was killer! Precision drive is as well!
Killer pedal makes my muddy dsl100 into modded marshall goodness. 10/10 recommended
Ha ha, so many people talking about how they can't hear it in the mix, you guys have just made me feel really good about my ears! :D (No offence, BTW, it might just be one of those things that you really have to know what to listen for...)
dammit
i was hoping i could compare this to the Airis Effects Protodrive because i was anticipating the same riff
still, good demo!
enough about the pedal and tone. where did you get that plastic mount that is holding the pedal up????
cant wait until mine comes!
The Cycle is such a jam
That guitar is fucking sick in surf green.
I’m on the fence between this one and the MXR 5150.
Great demo! I just picked up an OD808X, how would you compare it to an 808 or even the KHDK?
I am wanting to get back into playing guitar after not playing for more than 10 years. I don't really have any equipment to speak of other then my Wah peddle, my 150 Watt Crate head, and my guitars. Am I the only one around here who plays in E standard most of the time?
Standard Tuning is kinda boring but Standard Tuning is how I started off and if it wasn't for Standard Tuning I wouldn't have learned how to play guitar and wouldn't have discovered Drop Tuning. I now play in Drop Tuning because it gives you access to more chords and higher notes.
That's all I play
Just saying, Fluff, you are the reason that i have a Revv Generator 100
That goodness for the click of the switch and the LED, haha.
*ball scratching intensifies*
Don't just touch those balls!
Polemicist Contrarian I have poison ivy on my balls
CStubbsSubs I have balls on my poison ivy
daam! man , nice tone!
what song are you playing? ...tabs???
Wow nice video! Thank you! But does the gate still On when the Od is switched off?
I saw on the commercial, it said "get it while supplies last." Are they only doing one production run of these?
Andrew DiMartino C O R R E C T
The first 10 seconds of you chugging makes me want to buy this pedal !!!!
Quick question Fluff. I have a Maxon ST-9 Pro+ that I bought a few years ago and use it in front of a Dual Rec Roadster, and I got both those pieces as per your recommendation back then... and it has been a monster! Since you have experience with both pedals and the TC-50, I couldn't imagine anyone better suited to answer this. I appreciate your time, Fluff!
that was a bad demo..
yesterday's vid you said that the maxon od808 was your favorite OD pedal, any chance now that this pedal could also rank up there?
Thoughts on how this would be in an Orange OR series amp? (specifically the OR15)
Perfect tone!
I got Misha Mansoor advertising this exact product before the video...
You should get ZILLA cabs from the UK to make you a custom Seafoam cab. (Best cabs ever imho)
Complete the set.
How does this compare to the Ghoul Screamer? Similar?
Hmm... i just got the Precision Drive ad before this video. Coincidence?
the best bit of this video is when he plays with no hands!
when you get an ad from Misha about the pedal on a video of the pedal
Holy fuck imagine that paired with a 6505. That'd be the tightest tone ever.
Yeah this was tested heavily with a block letter. If a metal drive pedal doesn't work with a Peavey it won't work anywhere! haha
If I buy this pedal, do I still need a separate noise gate?
