If I ever get an amp again, I'm going back to a rectifier. I watch dozens and dozens of videos and there are so many incredible amplifiers out there, but whenever I hear a recto I'm always completely satisfied with how full-bodied yet aggressive it can be.
This is the single, best review I've seen for the Precision Drive. The Rectifier is one of the hardest amps to harness and to get a tight, focused sound. You proved it can do it, Ola! \m/
Man, this thing makes a considerable difference, and it sounds crazy nice too - a good sweep of tones to push your signal. I'll be saving up and getting this...
So this pedal is not only an Overdrive but also a Gate as well? Could you put a bunch of common pickups through a shootout on the cheaper guitars to see if they also can achieve the same sound as the higher dollar model guitars? Just an idea, it would be a great way to help push that pedal.
followfornothing short answer, for this kind of music, yes. Long answer, kindof, depending on what you play. Things like scale length do effect the tone to some degree, but there are only 4 common scale lengths, 3 being common on electrics. If you play clean music, depending on the design of your guitar wood species does have a small effect on tone, but on every guitar wood species and construction effects sustain a lot. So yes, with nice pickups you can get a similar tone on most instruments, with some small differences which become less noticeable once you distort the tone. Just make sure your guitar is properly set up.
Ola, have you tried this with a Satan? I just want to make sure that it's worth it before dropping 200+ on this (I play a Satan as well). Main concern is that the Satan is already pretty versatile in terms of low-end tightness, bright control, etc.
+KOTRmetal Satan takes overdrives really well, just dial down the grind and dial up the girth. Basically making the amp less modern sounding. I'm absolutely positive this pedal will sound awesome with the Satan
Ola Englund - in terms of the Satan, since I have one on the way, what's the point of "making the amp less modern sounding" just to put this (or some other) overdrive in front of it to make it modern sounding again? or loosening up the gain structure or making it flubbier or muddier just to tighten it back up with the pedal? would there be that much of a difference between a low-girth high-grind setting without the pedal, and a high-girth low-grind setting with it?
RestAssuredDrummer there are many ways to skin a cat... having a less modern tone and using a boost can be like adding another channel to your head....
RestAssuredDrummer it's just another way to get another type of sound. The Satan has a very dry-ish tight distortion, but if you want a more saturated mush- tone, you can still get it if you want with an overdrive. I just explained that IF you want an overdrive you can set the Satan so it responds like that. Overdrive in loop is cool if you want the gain boost but that's what the Kill mode is for, just adding more gain
I respect this kind of feature demonstration, though we're already using a dual rectifier! In my experience over the years, nothing beats your favorite guitar, coming through your favorite amp. Adding layers between only takes away from that harmony (unless it's EQ which mesa absolutely owns already!).
I find a boost of some kind really makes a mesa sing. They tend to get a little flubby and loose in the low end with metal tones. Its not to colour the sound so much as push the pre amp tubes harder.
you know, your tone @2:27 actually only just needs a tad of post processing, but is actually not in much of need of an overdrive pedal, which is pretty exceptional for rectifier tweaking.
Ola man sick playing as always!! ..but I was hoping to see a Blackstar HT-100 Metal Review but haven't seen one...I've got the amp head it's self but I'd like to hear your point of view and your thoughts. Cheers dude! Hope to hear from you!!
That thing sounds sick in front of that Dual Rec! I need something that would work well in front of a Mark V. I use an MXR Wylde Overdrive that does well for channel 2, but it just cuts heads off on channel 3; waaay too bright. Ice pick tone for days. Even dumping the presence and treble knobs and the 6.6K slider doesn't quite tame it. This could be the solution, with the adjustable brightness feature. I was also using their 10 band graphic EQ as a boost, Dimebag style, but it's so god-awfully noisy and sucks tone a bit.
I have the Precision Drive and Ola Englund's Washburn PX-Solar16FRC series guitar! Together they are pure metal madness! Love it! BTW - the pedal by itself is not that amazing - its when you put in front of a tube amp and push the amps drive that it shines and gives you that killer metal crunch. I have now run 3 overdrives - the Precision Drive, a tube screamer and a MXR EVH Overdrive - gives me pretty much every type of drive I could ever want from SRV, EVH, Vai to Hetfield & Loomis all run in front of a Carvin Legacy III head and a Helix LT in the effects loop. Its good to have options.
Really nice, got me curious to see how it would sound through a clean channel. Can you show us that? Just so we know how much gain can this pedal make.
So does this run infront of the distortion channel on the amp, rather than going into clean and providing all the distortion? Is that just not how it's done?
Ola i felt on my dual rectifier that if i put the gain on 9 o clock on my overdrive it sounds better than having the gain of the overdrive at 0 can you please help me to understand why ?
Ola Englund Don't you get tired of repeating information that's already in the description? Please do another game vs. album again soon, your Job Simulator video had me dying laughing. CHEERS FROM AMERICA!
Stupid question,. but I'm kinda slow with gear. I just joined a band that actually plays shows, so It's now time for me to build a live rig. I have the 6505MH and it's noisy as hell. I'm getting ready to purchase the ISP decimator G string, and next would be an OD pedal. I just looked at the pricing for these and I would love to get them at they pre order price before the price goes up. I've never dealt with and OD before, so my question is do you think that the gate in the Precision Drive would be "enough" to keep the pedal and the 6505mh quiet until I get a G string?I don't push too much gain. It normally stays on 4 or 5. Maybe even 6. Thanks! Sorry for the noobish question.
I have to know, how the hell do you get so much overdrive from your amp or whatever pedal or combination of pedals without getting crazy noise with it? I have the Boss noise suppressor which obviously cuts out a lot, but it still doesn’t even come CLOSE to sounding this clean with that much overdrive. Please help! Lol
***** my 6505 is not brittle. Learning to dial in amps isn't hard to do. A couple tweaks here and there, and voila. Some suggest a 10 band eq but it's not necessary
Peaveys in general have this nasty thing happening with the high end that personally I do not find pleasing at all. Maybe that is what he meant by brittle... Owning both a Peavey and a Mesa I can tell you that the Mesa absolutely slays, the peavey doesn't even come close.
JpOctavarium are you referring to the high end fizz? that is an easy fix, there are multiple easy fixes for that. I don't have experience with any mesa amps
how would you compare this to the the fortin pedal? very interested in getting that as well. I currently use a 90s tube screamer through a jcm800. just waiting on the shipment of my solar 170c in the next few days;)
would this tighten up my amp more than the ibanez ts im using at the moment? its a victory v30 - I love it but the low end gets flubby for the more brutal stuff. cheers
tammyofthetrex because that's not what this pedal is for, it's for boosting a mid-high gain signal and tightening everything up. It sounds more like a regular overdrive through a clean channel. If you can't hear the difference than you aren't at a point in playing and developing your ear where you would need a pedal like this, so save your money for now and check back in a year or two lol
Horizon precision drive has such a crazy range in prices, I see them from $160 to $300 which is crazy at least higher side ones $300 that’s crazy but then I see the Demonfx precision drive for $57 to $65 . My wallet knows what is best but my ears need to have the final say in the matter I need to do more research, my eyes can’t tell the difference they look the same almost %90 identical. Evil twin good twin but which one do I shoot
Well, the gate is cranked at that section. On the website they suggest starting with the gate at the lowest setting to kill the noise floor, and adjust to taste from there. Its like turning the gain all the way up on your amp and wondering why it sounds horrible.
Anybody know what song that is at 10 seconds????? That riff is super badass and needs to go on my playlist pronto. EDIT:the song is “time(will not heal)” by the haunted(ola’s band)good shit bro🤘🏻🤘🏻kickass riffs good vocals amazing drums 10/10 I recommend
Ibanez RG350DX 0.12 - 0.56 Ernie Ball Not Even Slinky strings and a cheap amp that costs 60 dollars ...can i djent with this pedal? I hate the distortion from my amp, the distortion of my amp is to play blues >:c

I've followed you for a good couple of years now and I still can't figure out for the life of me how your riffs end up sounding so badass.
You can sound like Ola, if he agrees to transplant his hands.
PRODUCTION
He’s Scandinavian that’s why... I know it’s been 2 years haha
Obviously just because hes really good at writing, but I think the way the drums groove is probably a huge factor as well
That first riff's tone is just so...chewy. That's the best word I can describe it, and I like it. It really tightens up that Dual Rec.
This is the single, best review I've seen for the Precision Drive. The Rectifier is one of the hardest amps to harness and to get a tight, focused sound. You proved it can do it, Ola! \m/

This is my favorite OD of all time! The 'attack knob is just nirvana!
it really blows your mind!
such cool riffs always by the mighty Ola
Ola, i have to say, one of the BEST sound that you take out from your mesa DR. My sincerely congrats !!!
This demo is so amazing
So happy to have it in Helix now :)
Ola, have you tried this with a Satan? I just want to make sure that it's worth it before dropping 200+ on this (I play a Satan as well). Main concern is that the Satan is already pretty versatile in terms of low-end tightness, bright control, etc.

KOTRmetal Well I think Satan does not need this pedal lol.
Ola Englund - in terms of the Satan, since I have one on the way, what's the point of "making the amp less modern sounding" just to put this (or some other) overdrive in front of it to make it modern sounding again? or loosening up the gain structure or making it flubbier or muddier just to tighten it back up with the pedal? would there be that much of a difference between a low-girth high-grind setting without the pedal, and a high-girth low-grind setting with it?

fantastic review as always! I got this bad boy on pre-order, don't tell my wife!
Randy Clark she already know lol jk
Killer Riffs at the Beginning, want more...
That whole section at 1:40 was amazing man.

This pedal is awesome ! thanks Ola you always make great reviews on gear ! I love your channel man 🤓
Misha is a beautiful man.
Not 'fat-shaming' him or anything but, he has been barreling up a bit.
Success will do that to ya. Still a beautiful man tho.
Wak Job He's lost a lot of weight since the studio videos of pII and the Juggernaut albums though!
The solar system has 9 planets!
Of man!
You are one of the best metronome-wise guitar player I saw :)
Carry on \m/
you know, your tone @2:27 actually only just needs a tad of post processing, but is actually not in much of need of an overdrive pedal, which is pretty exceptional for rectifier tweaking.
One of my favorite pedals.
Ok... Ordered mine! Hope it's better than my maxon!!!
Ola man sick playing as always!! ..but I was hoping to see a Blackstar HT-100 Metal Review but haven't seen one...I've got the amp head it's self but I'd like to hear your point of view and your thoughts. Cheers dude! Hope to hear from you!!
Killer demo/review! Pre-ordered mine.
PREordered mine already!!!! i can't wait!!!
Sounds awesome 👏 really like the gate feature
just picked up this pedal, i have to say im diggin it
Is it just me that wants Ola to bring out his own T-Shirts ?????
Dude that riff at :25 ! badass.
The Haunted - Time (Will Not Heal)
;)
I was about to make that exact comment Lol
Very very good demo, Ola.
Hey, Merry X-mas, Ola!
I wish that quality of review for every object I plan to buy

Do a video comparison of the MAXON OD808X and the Horizon Precision Drive. Please.
What's tha song name at 1:41 ... it's so beautiful I really enjoy its like af!
That first riff you played is like Pantera meets a bit of symphony x. Fucking great
I was thinking Pantera when I first heard it, but your description is right on.
I have the Precision Drive and Ola Englund's Washburn PX-Solar16FRC series guitar! Together they are pure metal madness! Love it! What sounds are they? What are your favourites?
I’m buying the precision drive and also a ts9
I can’t wait for the PD
Great riff in the beginning!!!
I got kicked out from my band I won't be needing pedals for a while
*Comments anyways*
*yes madam*
nice
Rudy Ayoub that's quite a present
Either work on your playing or people skills. Look at why you got let go and grow as an artist.
Awesome playing and vid! I shall own one!!
that solo was awesome...
Could you do the demo of MXR Fullbore metal and Hotone Whip as well? ;)
Really nice, got me curious to see how it would sound through a clean channel. Can you show us that? Just so we know how much gain can this pedal make.
the gate is great!
So does this run infront of the distortion channel on the amp, rather than going into clean and providing all the distortion? Is that just not how it's done?
You stack it like an 808, that's it. On Distortion channel
This pedal is crunchy as fuck.
Ola i felt on my dual rectifier that if i put the gain on 9 o clock on my overdrive it sounds better than having the gain of the overdrive at 0 can you please help me to understand why ?
Hey Ola, what's the guitar track playing in this vid? sounds very Pantera-ish. Hope all is good and happy christmas and a happy new year
+ValkyrieBSG it's in the description but it's a song from the latest the haunted album
Ola Englund cheers man
Ola Englund Don't you get tired of repeating information that's already in the description? Please do another game vs. album again soon, your Job Simulator video had me dying laughing.
CHEERS FROM AMERICA!
how about try getting used to read the description before ask
or keep asking what you want, & either you'll get an answer or you won't.
Your frets sound rough as hell when you demonstrated the sustain with the gain knob.
Tone on this is massive
That first riff was fucking amazing.
Cool riff- cool pedal- sounds good! :)
What is the song you’re playing in the beginning of the video?
Oops. Never mind. It is in the description. 😁
I got Misha advertising this product... before a video about Misha advertising this product
Sack Of Potatoes same lmao

you don't ever use some noise gate in your sound chain ? how do you kill all the noise ?
Will the noise gate that is Built in the horizon pedal silence all noise from the other pedals or just the horizon pedal itself?
hey ola. have you ever done any videos using dimarzio pickups like the crunchlab and liquifire? what are your thought on those pickup?
Hey, I really love the pedal but I would like to see what it'll do on a clean channel!
When you say the low end gets tight, do you mean attack is basically a compressor?
It sounds like an EQ sweep moving a notch and shelf upwards with a trailing lowered shelf.
who's here after just finding out this will be available on new PodGo update?
great pedal - just ordered - you show also with the kemper?
I have to know, how the hell do you get so much overdrive from your amp or whatever pedal or combination of pedals without getting crazy noise with it? I have the Boss noise suppressor which obviously cuts out a lot, but it still doesn’t even come CLOSE to sounding this clean with that much overdrive. Please help! Lol
Would this work for taking a orange set at a crunch setting to high gain
Hopefully this pedal will make me actually like my evh 5150 lbx, cant seem to be happy with the sounds i get from that
Hard to beat Mesa/Boogie for the brootz
it's not hard to beat a mesa, just get yourself a 6505+ and and your all set
Engl !
***** my 6505 is not brittle. Learning to dial in amps isn't hard to do. A couple tweaks here and there, and voila. Some suggest a 10 band eq but it's not necessary

how would you compare this to the the fortin pedal? very interested in getting that as well. I currently use a 90s tube screamer through a jcm800. just waiting on the shipment of my solar 170c in the next few days;)
Same question Ola :)
Hey Ola! which would you Perfer or what do you think the differences is between the horizon devices and the khdk dark blood?
Is this meant mainly to go in front of an already driven amp? Or can it add a fair amount of gain to a pretty clean amp?
It's designed to boost a high gain tone.
In front of clean amps it will do a light drive.
Have you used this we a 6505+? Im currently using a Zakk Wylde OD and have not been totally satisfied with my rhythm tone?
It works great with Peaveys :D
what channel do you have the mesa boogie set at? clean, crunch, distortion, etc.?
The Schwartz is strong with this pedal.... excellent video as always Ola \m/
Dom Dingle I'm surrounded by assholes!
followfornothing We've been jammed...Raspberry
sick demo.
would this tighten up my amp more than the ibanez ts im using at the moment? its a victory v30 - I love it but the low end gets flubby for the more brutal stuff.
cheers
Yup!
His guitar tone with the pedal on and off sound the same to me. Why is no one demoing this pedal on a clean channel?
tammyofthetrex because that's not what this pedal is for, it's for boosting a mid-high gain signal and tightening everything up. It sounds more like a regular overdrive through a clean channel. If you can't hear the difference than you aren't at a point in playing and developing your ear where you would need a pedal like this, so save your money for now and check back in a year or two lol
If you think you hear $220 worth of a difference your an idiot fanboy. Poser
Horizon precision drive has such a crazy range in prices, I see them from $160 to $300 which is crazy at least higher side ones $300 that’s crazy but then I see the Demonfx precision drive for $57 to $65 . so is this more for Metal and Post-hardcore maybe ?
i need this in my life
This pedal is awesome!!!!
What type of bypass does it feature? I have mailed them a couple days ago but didnt receive an answer...
Just received an answer from them. It´s true bypass.
At about 4:51 there's a weird click every time the gate kicks in. Is that the pedal? It'd be a deal breaker for me if it is.
Well, the gate is cranked at that section. On the website they suggest starting with the gate at the lowest setting to kill the noise floor, and adjust to taste from there. Its like turning the gain all the way up on your amp and wondering why it sounds horrible.
How and the hell are you STILL not using Mogami?????
Ola you seem addicted to the Hesu 2x12 cab. Is it that good?
Would this be useful in combination with a Kemper?
Anybody know what song that is at 10 seconds????? That riff is super badass and needs to go on my playlist pronto. EDIT:the song is “time(will not heal)” by the haunted(ola’s band)good shit bro🤘🏻🤘🏻kickass riffs good vocals amazing drums 10/10 I recommend
Hey Ola,
How does this stack up against the MXR 5150 pedal?
That is a gorgeous guitar! What model is it?
That's a badass Washburn !!!
omg full headbanging with intro riff hahha :) greetings from colombia ola :D
Seems like it would work well with an orange
Is that in the FX Loop or front?
This is Ola with a Mesa dual rectifier ... ... ... ... ... ... Again ... ... ... ... ... !!!
What were the settings on the Boogie?
This pedal sounds marvelous.
But, when and where can I buy it?
Tristan Lavelle 👆Link in the description to pre-order.
Ibanez RG350DX
0.12 - 0.56 Ernie Ball Not Even Slinky strings
and a cheap amp that costs 60 dollars
...can i djent with this pedal? I hate the distortion from my amp, the distortion of my amp is to play blues >:c
what software do you use to edit Ola? Thanks!
What's the outro song? it's fucking great
dat solo holy shit Ola
Is there any particular reason for using sm58?
He has a video where he tried different mics on guitar cabinet and liked sm58 better than sm57.
Djordje Petric plain and simple. Its a good mic.
Actually SM58 can give you more "low end" due the mic grill.. actually, SM57 and 58 share the same capsule, but the grill makes that difference between those mics.
Which one is better ? well.. all depends on what kind of gear are you using, from guitar to cab speakers, even what kind of tone are you looking for.. so take this with a grain of salt.
