    Awesome Pedal! I also have an idea for a new "Sounds like...": How about you try to sound like Periphery without busting the bank and use more affordable amp modellers like the Avid ElevenRack for example? Since Periphery uses the AxeFX exclusively, I recon that might be an interesting video! Maybe you could even show the process of you editing and dialing in the patch in the video...? That would be seriously awesome! Cheers, Guys! :)

    Old video but hands down the best review. I ordered this for my Diezel VH4 to focus up my metal style of playing and hands down you guys did a superb really breaking down how this thing is applicable to focusing a high gain amp experminenting. You and Ola did the best review of this. can't wait to get mine.

    I can also see this used as a subtle tool for a 'fly rig' pedal board providing the ability to tighten up a flabby stage amp when needed.

    I would actually really like to see a clean valve amp demo of this. The mention of the extra gain (level) on tap makes me wonder how nice it might be as a clean boost. Put it after an OCD or something and you've got a built in gate and boost.

    Dont forget this pedal can also do great mid gain tones as well. Take a slighty dirty tone and put this infront with some gain. Gives it a real woody poppy sound.

    Cool pedal. Many times I forget to mention that the drive I use (a vacuum tube preamp) is with the gate always on, with a moderate threshold. I would use something like that precision drive on a smaller gig pedalboard. Djent the post-refrain of Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers.

    Actually this pedal works wonders for getting that slight breakup without pushing the gain or goosing an amp with a boost pedal and killing everyone on stage. I know 3 Nashville studio cats who are using these to get that slight country push, I have found that if you pair this with a dynacomp style compressor you get the perfect bluesy style breakup tone with the drive at 9 o'clock the attack in the 3rd position and the bright at around 9 on my Mesa Combo's clean channel. So it's not just for metal guys. The gate is a huge help in keeping it tight.

    Although this does sound epic through the kraken, the kraken is already a very tight controlled amp anyway as Bea doesn't use drive pedals.
    They should have brought in something like a dual Rec or EVH 5150 to demo it on as they both have massive low ends and would have showed the low end difference better.

  • @obicross
    @obicross 7 років тому

    Hi Djent guru. the kraken is already tight to begin with, so might not be the best choice of amp. if you do want to use kraken however, you can maybe dull it down, add some more bass to the tone, make it a lil woofy, or take the gain down to midgain tone, its a gain boost pedal after all. Also maybe you can use amps like 5150, dual rec, or something along those lines of amps where they have a solid fundamental tone and character, but the overall sound isn't tight enough and build upon it. Also, i heard, this pedal does decent drive pedal sound, as it has more drive than your standard TS pedal. Set it to clean or to edge of breaking up, and add some drive from the pedal, or boost it, great mid gain tones. Its actually pretty versatile.

    Didn't really like this video. Whenever I see Rabea and Pete do a video it just feels like a clash. Pete in a unfunny way always comes across as that dad who tries to say things off the cuff but doesn't really get it. I've also pointed out before how Pete often talks over Rabea and on a video like this he isn't the expert by a long shot. Pete Thorn reviewed the pedal and it DOES do all the tube screamer type things i.e. classic tones, it just has more sculpting options. Also I imagine that the 5150 patch on the Kemper probably has a TS already featured when they profiled the amp which is why you don't notice anything different. The low end and mids have already been sculpted. All drive comes with compression and it is annoying when you hear people say that for metal as a rule you run the drive off. If you want more compression, mostly as bedroom volumes as no one has the kind of house where they can crank to get natural compression from the power section you can simulate that with the drive on the tube screamer. Pants video. I wish someone would do an honest precision drive vs TS comparison for metal.

      pepsiguzzler86 are u serious? First off Pete and Rabea seem to get along great. Second Pete's a pro player look up his resume. Why do u think he's such a great player? Major acts. Also, he's brought in a ton of new subscribers and growing by the day. Leave Pete alone!!! And don't start I answered u legitimately with respect.

    • @pepsiguzzler86
      @pepsiguzzler86 7 років тому +3

      @Jay Jackson I didn't say they didn't get along. I said Pete can sometimes talk over Rabea and their chemistry isn't close to say Lee and Rob. I said that this wasn't really the kind of video for Pete to collaborate on, the same as why you might not imagine a Lee Anderton not appearing in a video like this. Yes he's a session guitarist, London is riddled with them it's not that big of a deal. Big shows yes, but there are tons of session guitarists out there. It just means that you can play in time, not get sick on tour and have clean technique. A lot of people can do this and like many successful people has been very fortunate to be at the right place, at the right time, knowing the right people. Nothing against him it's just a universal fact and he clearly deserves that continued success. I stand by what I said, that as a demo of this particular pedal it isn't a very good video. Without directly comparing it to something like a maxon od808 paired with a mxr smart gate it doesn't tell me much keeping in mind this is a boutique priced pedal. Pete said over and over that it doesn't really do the classic TS tones, Pete Thorn disproved this and it just shows that the video is...... meh. Pete Thorn is also a session guitarist, a huge one at that. 5-10k views per video for Pete Honore's channel is not a big deal, just being objective here, especially when you consider that other guitarist associated with Andertons and his subs/views. Rob Chapman. Just keeping things real and if someone can't give feedback then how does anything get "potentially" better? Just my sincere opinions.

    • @jayjackson9014
      @jayjackson9014 7 років тому

      pepsiguzzler86 first off I'm talking about Andertons channel. Since Pete's been there they've more than doubled their subs. Second any old player can be a session player? Really? Not a big deal? He has toured with major acts. Are u serious man really?! Pete's solo channel is wat ur talking about re 10-15k subs. I said they have a great camaraderie and I'm sticking to it. Chappers has his own channel and his own thing going with Lee. What's wrong with change? Something new and different? So go watch their channel. Pete can surely defend himself but I see the majority of subs seem to really enjoy him. And he's a nice, humble, laid back guy. I'm positive he can get a Kemper a helix an atomic amPliFire or an amp to sound great. Not changing my mind. Not going to change ur mind. The end. Keep the videos coming PETE!!! Pete was more than a session guy he's toured with major acts. I'm sure u can do it since u say it's so easy. 🙄

    • @pepsiguzzler86
      @pepsiguzzler86 7 років тому +2

      @Jay Jackson I really think that you are choosing to read into what I am saying and choosing to take offense. Correlating the channel with doubling their subscribers since Pete joined with no numbers is just speculation. You could be right but as Pete doesn't have the fame, subscriptions, views and respect of a Pete Thorn, Rob Chappers, Brent Mason etc. that is why I am not running with your logic. I didn't say a statement that was even remotely along the lines of "any of player can be a session player". I said that a lot of session players exist, especially in London. People travel from all over the world to session in places like our capital, Nashville, LA and NY and the talent is so saturated it's insane. Can Pete play? Obviously. What are the prerequisites to earn a living playing Atomic Kitten, Westlife and Tom Jones songs professionally? As I already said, clean technique, not getting sick on tour and can play in time. What prerequisites would it take to be a successful studio session musician in somewhere like Nashville or with a John McLaughlin or Steve Vai? It's a totally different animal. I didn't say there was anything wrong with change, in fact I said " if someone can't give feedback then how does anything get "potentially" better?" That definitely implies refinement which is in fact change. So who would I perhaps like to see do this kind of video? Someone highly rhythmical and right hand heavy who enjoys heavier songs instead of saying "I don't really listen to this stuff". Someone who has good camera vibe and would gel with Rabea would be their video editor Rory McLean or even the bassist from Toska/Dorje. Rory isn't a session musician from what I know but he is the kind of guitarist that is very interesting with his alternative playing and might use a pedal like this. Pete can defend himself? My words aren't an attack with loads of inflammatory remarks, just opinions that are pretty mild really. Also whether or not I am a session level player isn't relevant just to have an opinion. If you live like that then democracy could never exist.
