His wife THOUGHT she had "Got the jackpot" when she managed to "Bag" Harold Shipman Men who are Narcissists LOVE these kinds of women...I can imagine behind closed doors it would have been... He says jump and she says...How high!
Thanks for this Dr. H! Really makes you think about why someone would want to do this. As always, love your vids and I really hope to attend any lectures/events etc. that you do soon!
Shipman seemed an obvious Narcissist (no doubt partly due to being doted on as a child) but he also seems to have had some traits of OCPD, which can appear very similar to Narcissism. The controlling nature, the obsession with his own abilities and reluctance to delegate, the love of lists, the obsession with "efficiency", the rudeness with others. I believe he spoke about older people as a drain on the NHS, so it's possible that he may have viewed what he was doing as some kind of efficiency drive, mixed in with his need for Narcissistic control.
I don't believe he was especially talented, intellectual or perfectionist, though. He reminds me of my first narcissistic ex, who would spend long hours at work to appear committed, but his work rate was terrible and so he just continued to plod and talk himself up to everyone. From what I've read about Shipman he was exceedingly average at Grammar School, and never really shone at anything. Oh and the forged will of his last victim was done very badly, it was almost laughable. Although that speaks of thinking that people are stupid and easily fooled, anyone OCPD would probably take great pride in producting a good fake. Incidentally I don't know either why he did what he did. It is one of those cases that is fascinating in how hard it is to understand. Love your Dobbin profile pic btw. :D
@@Queen-of-SwordsThanks! Always loved Dobbin :-) I've been reading some interesting stuff recently in which they speculated that Shipman may well have been on the autistic spectrum. They say that OCPD is often comorbid with autism, and autistic people can appear somewhat narcissistic at times. It's all very interesting stuff. Going slightly off topic - I read how when Shipman was jailed, he was in the same prison as notorious child murder Sidney Cooke, who was apparently furious that he had been knocked off the top "evil" slot. When Shipman committed suicide he was apparently ecstatic. Fighting for hierarchy in prison is apparently quite common even among the most serious offenders.
I managed to find a statement from the psychologist who dealt with Harold Shipman in jail, Dr Richard Badcock: "Shipman is a necrophile. He was obsessed, not with having sex with the dead, but with the act of inducing death and controlling the moment. He's a necrophile because his personal needs can only be satisfied by a dead body. If something was annoying him and he was unable to control it, then he would be able to fix his emotions by killing and then he'd feel normal again. Given his disorder, it is unlikely Shipman had a normal sex life. He's likely to be relatively impotent and his sex life would have been problematic. He would regard sex as messy and something to be avoided because he couldn't control it. The thrill he got from killing would have become a power-based replacement for sex. It seems to me that his controlling force would not stop when he came home. His wife would not be expected to have a life of her own. His perceived arrogance and fascination with state-of-the-art computers were manifestations of his need for control. His arrogance is an underlying motivation. When he was being interviewed, he would try and assert his intellectual powers. He can't live with himself if he's not in charge of things. And the death of his mother, or something very similar, would be another motivation."
He certainly is a very unusual case. Primrose doesn't seem to have had much empathy, mixing with the victims as she did. Its not impossible for two narcissists to end up together, after all many people would regard marrying a doctor as a real catch. Your social status immediately improves as a doctor's wife, without having to do anything much. Thanks for the insight about necrophilia, I've never heard of the other aspects of it. Good channel.
Psychopaths are actually much more likely to "succeed" because they have no qualms and are driven by a need for status, control and power. High powered jobs are full of them - they gravitate towards it.
I don't think it's anything I've done this end as they are recorded in HD. I will ask if others are having problems with them. Thanks for letting me know.

Thank you for the intimate window into the life of Harold Shipman. All I can say is, Sh*t man!
UNBELIEVABLE that someone this dangerous can get a job with such high status.
Psychopaths and very manipulative and exploitative.
I there might be plenty of them in medical professions

Thx sm for this info your helping me pass gr 11 lol

I guess you mean that his wife supports his memory and probably denies he did anything wrong, given that Shipman is thankfully now dead. x
I'm not thankful he's dead. Like Fred West he should have been made to serve his sentence.
Is there a reason why all your videos are screwed up
Screwed up how? Do you mean you think I've made a mistake in the video, or the subject matter is screwed up?
@@CrimePsych The videos are all green and fuzzy
