Watched the video & convinced using a regular tent much more practical.
Discounting this was your FIRST experience installing and setting up the tent - all went well.
Leaving the tent IN the truck and losing little space for hauling non construction "stuff" is a GREAT feature.
Thanks for doing this.
Now I Know...
You can’t get the air conditioning from the cabin to the tent in hot climates that might be a downfall
you can run a small one from the power outlet onboard, honestly thats likely more efficient than using the climate control.
Hvac would not make sense as a tent is not insulated so you would not been able to cool it anyways
Don’t camp bro, stay home😂
@@dailydanks6685if your car is next to you camping many don't consider that camping. I do, it's just a different form. Just annoying that car camping is frownded upon by many.
When efficient A/C is within feet of you with an efficient & mostly silent system - kinda sucks if you don't have access to it
Definitely wasn't designed by the same team who designed the actual functional truck! Otherwise it would be a much, much easier install. Too crazy that they didn't include an electric pump, but I guess 1 PSI, they didn't want you to pop it; but then, they could have just included an automatic stopper when the pump hit 1 PSI... Thanks for sharing this experience with us!
It’s not inflated to only 1 PSI. They say when you are at 1 PSI check if anything is tangled. Then it is inflated further.
@@89bazolyyes but with an electric pump its easier to overshoot that.
If you can't take advantage of the hvac, what's the point? MY for the win with camping.
Model Y looks like it has more room. Than that tent when set up.
True. HVAC and not much setup to do in the Y
Hvac would be a waste of energy was a tent is not at all insulated

Kudos to the pop son team giving their best effort with this mess
They are both out of shape because they are riding Electric bikes instead of riding a real bicycle. Not a good look!
1) That looks really well designed and engineered. 2) It shows the mistake that Tesla made by not incorporating an accessible air pump system for the tent or the tires.
How about a cheap air pump with 220V Schuko? Or your US plugs.
@@wolfgangpreier9160 Yes but would be better built-in. There's literally already and air tank and compressor system for the suspension.
@@MikesTropicalTech The suspension needs lets say 10 liters. A singl etire alone needs up to 200 liter.
It is always a compromise between building larger internal devices like compressors or inverters or letting the customer do it himself.
Of course it would be better if the CT had a 1000l air generator inside.
But: How many would need and use it?
I know i would not.
Tesla can not build individually. They can put in the maximum amount of gadgets everybody MAY need.
Like a 9 kW outlet which can drive even the largest single pase compressors you can buy.
This doesn't need a lot of air to inflate at all, so I guess they decided it's not worth adding cost for an electric pump
I appreciate your dedication to product testing that Cyberbounce through this install. Hope it adds to your camping fun!
Retaining pin would be the obvious solution to threaded holes. Just put that retaining ring through the end of the pin on the other side. You can still do that with a drill to make the hole smooth for a small retaining pin. May need an alternative solution if you get the towing battery.
This looks very much like a first generation product. There is a lot of engineering space left to reduce cost, complexity, and difficulty of use. Plus, the tent ended up being pretty small. I guess it isn't so bad because you'll be storing your stuff under the tend instead of inside, but it's going to be cozy for even just two people in there. Three is right out. The big idea with the tent was supposed to be that it was low effort. This does not meet that design goal. A standalone inflatable tent will be up in half of the time because you're not futzing around with taking bits off of the truck to set it up.
Just unfold it, hook 2 things, then pump it up. What's so high effort about that? The only way you could make it any easier is have an electronic air pump. Otherwise, it's way easier than a typical tent where you have to figure out how the tent unfolds, unfold each of the rods, loop them through the tent, and hammer in the stakes. Any inflatable tent is also harder than this, because you still have to hammer in the stakes or otherwise tie it down. Because the Cybertent is already tied to the truck, it saves that effort.
Let's wait for Thule and Yakima to respond with their version.
Thank you.
@@judahdatoy6134 Are either of them planning a tent specifically made for Cybertruck? That sounds cool, it's great to have competition in that regard to give consumers more options.
While that manual air pump doesn't seem bad, if that is the price i guess they could have included an electric air pump that plugs in the cybertruck plugs...
Is there a way to use the aircon of the cybertruck in the tent? When i slept in my M3 (with a foldable mattress opened up on the folded back seats) it was amazing because of the camping mode, perfect temperature all night long
When I see this, I would like to know what cyberlandr is doing. Update please...
When I ordered mine, Tesla installed it and they installed a different clip on the aeroflap that makes it much easier to remove at the camp site.
I couldn't even order the tent delivered to my house, they had it shipped to the service center and I had to set up an appointment for them to install it.
Where’s the Cybertruck pop up camper?!
I don't know... it seems very fiddly and a bit frustrating to set up. Camping is supposed to be fun. For almost $3,000 I would expect something easier to use. Thanks for going through the entire process. Will be interesting to see what you think of it after going camping a couple times -- please keep us updated.
Definitely put stickers on the first open notch on the rails between each bracket. Great thinking.
I think a clevis pin would have been better than a screw or bolt for putting through the rail bracket. Could easily fix that up with a drill.
HOLY SHeeeT! i didn't know that it could self level the entire vehicle!! that's AWESOME!
Thanks Zac & Jesse! We have a rooftop tent on our 2003 Nissan frontier truck (on top of the truck shell). Very cool to see the tent for the CT!
The best part is that you can do a partial breakdown and just close the tonneau
Just in time for them to launch v2 next month with integrated electric pump, inside lights and usb, thicker mattress, and easier one button press installation.
You guys have so much fun doing things yourself that it is fun watching you guys enjoy yourselves! 😅
Thanks guys, by the time Jessie gets back from his first trip he will be comfortable doing this set up in just a few minutes!
If you use a nickel based Anti-seize on the bolts, it will drastically lower the chances of galling the aluminum thread during installation and should make it much easier to tighten them.
this father and son relationship is so envious
Thank you for sharing this video. I haven’t bought a tent in a while, but that seems expensive. Keep up the great work!!
Interesting to see how it is assembled. If you can afford to buy a Sybertruck, you can also afford this tent. A normal tent requires a suitable surface. With this tent, you can camp anywhere, and never have to worry about water getting inside. It's a nightmare every time it happens.
Awesome guys! Thanks!
Wow that’s awesome. I definitely thought it would’ve been a lot easier and also self inflatable but it’s all good. Definitely good value for the build of it hey. Can’t wait to see your time away with it. Thanks 🙏 heaps for the vid.
It's a hand pump because:
1. It only needs to pump to 8 PSI
2. If you are on a public campground, nobody wants to hear a noisy air compressor.
(Yes I know technically the suspension leveling is using an air compressor, but that's an internal one that is quieter, and yes the CyberTruck could/should have come with a compressed air outlet)
I've watched 2 other cybertruck tent videos. This is the best demonstration. According to another video, this was created by a high quality camping company for Tesla. Thanks for the video.
Midgate would 've been so next level.
I remember seeing a product (for model Y?) where you rolled down a window and inserted a plastic panel with a hose attached to it. The hose ran somewhere. To a separate tent maybe? You could rig something with that concept.
Bring your Starlink when camping.
Also, there may be some way of fastening and in fastening that cover with a spring loaded pull ring instead of screwing all the time.
You also might be able to find a way to use your homemade rivian kitchen in the back under the tent. It would be nice to have a pull out kitchen that can plug into the outlets (think expresso machine, microwave and air fryer).
issue 1 no power into the tent for charging mobiles etc. issue 2 CT was meant to have a air compressor outlet so why need a extra pump? issue 3 just make it a little short so not need to remove aero guard cover. issue 4 no expand out cover or rainfly. issue 5 why do you need to take extra bedding out? positives good that it is a air beam tech suggest look at opus campers on what can be added extra to this setup. positive 2 good that still have storage underneath.
The fact that you have to remove the aero cover every time really increases the setup time of this tent. I don't know what advantages this has over other inflatable tent and making your own platform to rest it on.
Now, if it had a compressor that I could use my pneumatic tools with, like they said it would, pumping the tent would have been easy. One thing is for sure, I'm not buy a cybertent. I'll just use the tonneau cover.
For the cost and install complexity, I think sticking to a popup tent is both financially and timewise a better investment.
If I used that often I would definitely replace those aeroflap screws with some thumbscrews
They probably went with the hand pump to keep people for over-pressurizing it. 1 PSI is pretty low.
It should have over pressure on relief valves anyway and integrated one button inflate and deflate electric pump that plugs into the ac outlet and also provides interior and exterior lighting and bedside usb ports
I think 1PSI was just to test for kinks. After that you inflate to 8 PSI it seems.
Gezz this was rough. Aussie here, I think I'll keep my swag ...
The tent that works on the model y looks way easier and ends up giving more space. We love ours.😊
On the model Y can also use climate control from the car’s HVAC? Seems like a big advantage if so.
I will wait for Cyberlandr.
very cool
Tang seems fitting for the camping trip. I'd expect the truck to air condition the tent. Is that available somehow?
Good vid
Pass
You know someone’s going to drop that screw down into the truck then what not worth the experience
Tents all set up oops I forgot the toilet paper😢
Whatever happen to the guys who were building the telescoping camper for the Cybertruck?
Whilst it did look very nice, and I appreciate the effort put in to show us, the tent is somewhat a case of using a sledge hammer to crack a wallnut. For only 2 people, could just as easily either sleep in the truck or take a small pop-up 2 man tent which takes no time at all and no tools at all to self-erect. Or use the $3k to book nice AirBNB or ven a cabin in the woods - wooooo....
I'm an industrial designer and professor, and I would grade poorly the installation. The process assumptions are not robust enough. Imagine you trying to set up this tent at night or being set up by a person who isn't tool savvy. What happens if your camping stuff is in the way of the installation? You should install it at home before leaving to the camping trip. Seems a rushed, not well integrated solution. Once installed, it looks spacious and very practical. Threads on aluminum is a very bad idea. They should use a threaded steel insert for reliability.
Thank you for buying and demonstrating. Looking forward to your next video.
Sounds like you can design better,,,get at it!
Could you please test Plastidip to change the color of the Cybertruck? It's much cheaper than vinyl wraps.
an electric pump would be nice
In another video, a couple with a Cybertent replace the two screws for the aero cover with hand turnable screws. I wonder if those could be tethered somehow, so one can't drop them. Also, they spent $100 on an inflatable kayak pump. (Though I think the $60-80 ones without a battery are a much better deal for this purpose.)
It will be interesting to see how this develops over time.
Are you gonna get the cyber lander?
You'd think that for $2.9K they could have included an electric pump... 😏
elon is poor he needs more money
I would buy one.
24:59
The tank tent
Wow what a good deal -only $3,000 for a tent!-I did pay that much for 2 lithium batteries for my Rv.-is that a rivian and 2 teslas behind the truck?
Can’t wait to see Apteras tent after seeing this
A cyber tent needs to be easily collapsed and stored under the tonneau then easily reassembled later so you can lock it up and go for a hike and not worry about people or critters while you're away.
Nice video. But - you guys really do not own a single cordless drill/screwdriver?
I want to like it but it’s way too much work. You’ll need a good nap after putting it up. It may get easier as you get used to it but I can’t help feeling it will end up like buying a $3k exercise bike and using it to hang clothes. Hope it works out!
Besides the cost, having to remove the aero cover is a nonstarter for me.
For a couple of EV guys, how come Jessie wasn't using an electric toque sensing screw driver? Come on guys! Get some electric cordless tools. You'd have been done in less than half the time. ;-)
In my opinion, poorly designed. Seems they were more focused on appearance than functionality. Unnecessarily complicated to install and poorly thought out. Rivian flip-out seems to be a much more practical solution. I have a feeling aftermarket inserts are going to be far more popular.
I like that the CT tent folds up into the truck box. It will not sun age unless it is in use. The Rivian tent needs to be loaded and off loaded every time it is used. Pick you poison.
Spacecampers has a great concept. Let’s see, if it’ll be great as advertised
@@timvonr2802 I emailed Space campers a while ago. They have plans to make a simple shell too, without all features, for a cheaper price, which is exactly what I want. It will basically turn the Cybertruck into a Cybervan.
I think the Foundation Cybertrucks is beyond what people think it is. Could it be better? Of course and it will just like anything. Was the first Ford perfect? The first stagecoach? The first sword?
Think deeper, much much deeper. Is Cybertruck really about trucks, humans and Earth? 🙄🤔🧐
I'm surprised you didn't use a screw gun. 😂 I for sure would have.
They could have easily done a spring lock with a pull pin instead of those stupid screws to hold the tent down to the bracket
The truck has a built in compressor. Why not give the tent a built in air mattress and make it so you can pump it up with the truck’s compressor instead of having to use a hand pump? It’s Tesla. Why not just have a button or setting marked Cybertent that tells the compressor to pump it up for you? I don’t get it.
Uh... I'll drive to a hotel. 😁
Why manually pump on a vehicle with an air compressor??
If I wanted a cybertruck and a very good tent it wouldn't be designed for a metal bed in a vehicle. It would be designed for the ground with mobility, easy deployment, lots of room, comfort, etc. The cybertruck is meant to carry the tent, sleeping bags, food, water, portable battery, camp equivalent, etc. Cybertruck as a tent is for silly city people. 😅
For threads in aluminum use a steel heilicoil
Too fiddly. Might as well toss a real tent in the back and slide it in & out.
It's All in How You Hold Your Tongue.:)
Pop up tent is way easier and takes 2 minutes to setup. And more space. I do like the sky lights though.
Having to remove the aero cover seems like a truly bad design. Everything else seemed OK.
Yea that sucks, was that a one time thing? Can you just ignore the red hoops that he didnt attach to and leave it in place?
I was really looking forward to setting up my cyber tent......
Only problem ..its missing the Truck @ 100k plus and the lack of range as promised......there will be no cyber truck here ...
Just waiting for my order number to come up see if someone want to have it for a case of beer ....
Dont bother, you can't transfer your reservation. Just hang onto it until the price reduces and you'll be first-ish in line
Huge missed opportunity with no power back window 😕
Pam here…sorry very little ROI for the work you have to do for this little bit of ‘camp able’ space. I would rather park my CT outside a swanky AirB&B. Smile!
🤔
Definitely doesn’t look like a $3k experience to me 🧐
Once it's all set up, if all you need is the airpump and some bedding that's really not that bad
Wow, $3000.00! P. T. Barnum used to say there's one born every minute.
Some good and bad (though seems mostly good). Overall seems decent, just not a fan of that price tag.
Somebody needs to make a ver II of this tent. It could be improved. Put a hinge on the aero cover so it does not need to be removed.
Terrible and too expensive. Thanks for doing this, I’ll be waiting for a 3p copy 😏
Pretty interesting, I really like how you dont loose the storage under the tent, and you can still close the cover when its all packed in the box.
Minor pain to set up before camping day but not bad.
For 3k it should have had a better mattress.
the design seems ok but the price to easy of use seems far off to me.
With pop-up canopy tents so popular, I'd expect a powered transformer style popup/pulldown tent operated at the push of a button. Also, it should be a pokeyoke, tool less install, taking nothing more than 5min to setup/takedown🤔. We can literally perform 🪄, with current tech in mechanics and manufacturing!. Clearly someone has been sleeping😴 on the job, or borrowed design from a high school kid😂. Does not chime with CT(which atleast looks and feels futuristic) personality at all 🥵. Can't expect a lowly tent for a 80K futuristic looking vehicle🤯. Even the old EuroVan poptop tents look far superior.👎Big Fail in execution,Looks to me its rather rushed and more of an after thought🤞,Yet another missed opportunity. Hopefully the experience has not put a dent to Cyber Tenting with a CT😂❤🤞
Hmmm sounds like you want a bunch of hinges and poles that are all more parts to break.
I think that the ethos of CT is simplicity despite it looking like a futuristic transformer.
I bet that the person who designed this tent never gone camping in their entire life. That person now should be forced to go camping with this tent for couple of months
the Setup is a No go...
One of the reasons I cancelled my order was how incredibly pissed off I knew I would be the first night I tried to camp on a hot night while sitting on top of a massive battery and AC unit…with NO VENT to the bed/tent. So many stupid design choices in this first Cybertruck. Hope there is a refresh that fixes some of these things. Where is the air compressor? It has a tank for the air suspension for heavens sake! And you are using a hand pump. smh
3k....for a fiddley tent. Everyone has lost their minds.
That stupid tent cost as much as my minivan.
I have to say. It looks stupid.. hahaha.
We need to have the tent re ingineered , honestly.
No way to get heat ? AC?
What always enticed me about camping in a tesla was the climate control. I dont really get the point of this product.
At that price, it really should come with extra screws and nuts.
Get thee to Ace Hardware!
Interesting to watch, but have no interest in camping.
