Am4 is like lga 1150. The 5800x3d is this generations 4790k. Case in point there are STILL to this day using 4th gen i7s and playing AAA games, and the 7700k is still pretty viable for a lot of people as well. I suspect am4 will still be relevant even up to the end of AM5s life cycle.

The harm is if you ever intend to upgrade the system. Say you want to upgrade the cpu after 3 years, you will then also need to upgrade the motherboard. So if ur on a budget, ull have to buy a cheaper CPU bcuz you have to spend some of the budget on a motherboard. On the other hand, if you had just bought a lastest gen motherboard, you wouldnt have to buy another one later

But if u like AAA games, or any heavy usage, it'll probably be outdated in a few years Max, and then when u change cpu, I'll have to spend more and replace the mobo as well, and waste your money by throwing out a relatively new motherboard which u could have avoided if u just bought a motherboard with good upgrade parth in the first place. So if u have the budget, get am5, so that whenever u have to upgrade, u can continue with the same motherboard. That said, if ur budget is extremely tight, performance is still more important than upgrade path. Don't buy worse value just to get am5, only do it if u have a decent budget.
As some people are saying, i dont see AM4 going away any time soon, even when AM5 is fully into it's life cycle. Work processes might need it but i dont see games getting that much stronger aside from maybe jumping to 8k or 16k. graphics options will only get more efficient until the next big thing comes out, whatever that is.

I baught a 1440p ultrawide monitor. Them a right before Christmas baught m myself a full am5 ride. With a 7800x3d and 32gb of ram. And soon will buy a 7800xt gpu as my next upgrade ^-^

@@shadowwarior2231 Get the regular 5600 instead of 5600G. 5600G just doesn't perform well in CPU intensive games due to cut down l3 cache. It'll also bottleneck your GPU a lil bit as it doesn't support pci-e gen 4.0
Just upgraded to a 5800x3d yesterday paired with an rtx 6750 xt and it's so buttery smooth. Had a ryzen 2600 in before and at 1080 highest settings in overwatch, ran about 130fps with frame drops occasionally. Now, it's 165fps in 1440p with no frame drops. Looooooove it!
For people with discret GPUs, a 7500F is a 7600 without an eGPU and can be bought for as low as 150$ if you have some luck. And it’s definitely more powerful than a 5600X
Wanna hear a sad story? I bought one of those bending correction brackets for my 7800x3d, but when I put it in my PC wouldn’t boot for some reason. So as I was taking it out, I lifted the correction bracket off, and my CPU kinda stuck in it because I put too much thermal paste. So as I was lifting out my CPU, it fell out of the correction bracket directly into the pins on my motherboard 😮. I legit cried for an hour. My poor Gigabyte AERO motherboard is busted 😅
I took out CPU to update bios with flashback cause I didn't trust that guy who sold me motherboard did update then I put back CPU I put it correctly but the socket cower for CPU just fell on CPU I didn't care and I used too much force to lock in CPU but I couldn't lock in I was wondering what's wrong then after I lift cover from CPU I noticed that CPU was bit outside of socket bruh I knew socket pins are gone or CPU is entirely dead unfortunately I again bought same motherboard and different CPU 7600 now before 7500f no igpu so that's why I took out CPU cause black screen when I put GPU in motherboard no picture but everything worked fine no red lights from motherboard I would sell 7500f for 160$ cause it's bit scratched from trying to fix socket pins I tried fixing pins for 3 days
Just helped an artist friend of mine settle his work PC with 5600G for about 320 bucks. Really, it depends on what's your need and how much you're willing to spend.
Depends on how often you plan to upgrade. Cpu upgrades are damn near as uncommon as psu upgrades for a lot of people so its a matter of getting the best you can afford and then waiting out the next socket release. I doubt am4 will be very viable in 2028/2029 if you intend to upgrade then, given how atrocious pc ports are getting

I'm a video editor, editing videos on Premiere Pro, and planning to switch to DaVinci Resolve soon. I've been told that Nvidia is still superior to AMD for content creators due to CUDA usage. I know ROCm already came out on Windows as an alternative to CUDA but nothing comes close when video editing and 3D render are my priority, and not just gaming. In my country if i go for ryzen 7500f or 7600 with rtx 3070ti (used) it is around 350 dollars extra and my pc is already slightly above my budget at 1500+ US dollars with ryzen 5600 (not x) just as an example the monitor i want is 267 US dollars on amazon BUT that same monitor is now available in my country (after one year, before that nobody i guess imported it from the official distributors, hence it wasn’t available, otherwise it would have been 100 US dollars extra for delivery) and that same monitor is being sold for 380 US dollars in my country, so you can imagine how frustrating it is for me, and I sometimes feel like I should quit building my pc for now and get it when i am not constrained by the budget 😢

Before anything I am a student in electronics and microprocessors and I have an engineering degree in industrial computer engineering so that is how all of this is possible. I am soon going to fix my broken pc (Tried ad succeeded to overclock an i7 7700 but it broke after about 3 mouths). So I was left since 2018 without a computer. But now that I am building a new one I want to reuse my gpu (gtx 1050ti) my ram (24gb ddr4 at 2666mh) and my psu (500w 80 +gold) with my new parts. I was thinking a Ryzen 5 5600/5600x with a decent air cooler and the B550M DS3H from gigabyte (and yes, I plan on overclocking and undervolting the cpu "when i upgrade", the ram and the gpu). So let's get to the question is it any good now before I upgrade my gpu in a year or two and do you recommend undervolting the cpu before the upgrade or after when I overclock it too.
