The peel ply or Dacron fabric is great too because you don’t need to sand after you pull it off- leaves a rough surface. You can also pull it off years later and it’s still good to go. I’ve never pulled it off when it’s tacky. Also we use West 105/205. We have used all this building composite airplanes (4 so far) and I’m working building a 13’x4’ swim platform on our 38’ Chris Craft
Dan. Just got done watching your 10-Steps to start sailing. Like you mentioned I've been cutting expenses to the line the last 14-months to save. And casually looking the past 6. Trade offs. I've been wanting a boat with a sugar scoop,.but willing to sacrifice it, but I been looking around the internet about an after market swim platform. Thank You. Thank You for this video. Definitely going to achieve for a future build.
Hey Sam! 👋 Thank you soo much buddy. Makes my day! Yeah its tough to find a good boat with a sugar scoop. But honestly, there are many other benefits to this over them. Once built, I thing this is better. But checkout "Spearit Animal" they have a swim platform built on their sugar scoop. A really cool combination. But they might not have it showcased yet on their channel. Cheers for the support buddy. I really appreciate you!
@@Adventureman_Dan Thanks for the reply Dan. I did watch in Detail to Spear Animal's arch construction and was looking forward to the Swim Platform build. I guess I have to go back and check past episodes. It was super nice meeting them at the Boat show this year. As a Mechanical Engineer I LOVE all the "boat projects" videos just as much as the inspirational sailing, diving, fishing - LIVING! videos that you do. Keep on living, inspiring!
Hey amigo, good job. I use pliers when I remove peel ply, I tried using my fingers once for about a minute then grabbed channel locks. Cutting it in strips helps.
Years ago Michigan wheel made a outboard bracket with a c channel rail system. If you can find two sets you now have two points of attachment on the transom so swim step, out board, hydro vein. Completely a modular set up
@@dare2imagine651 no link the product was discontinued prior to the Internet. Plenty of them out there. A guy on my dock has a complete setup. I can send you a picture if you want
I've just found your channel, great videos... I watch at least 5 videos every day now..... Just a trick I use.... You may use white vinegar to clean up the epoxy from your skin, tools or cloth.
Great video thanks for thanks for posting Of all those catamarans in Grenada did you find that they were available for sale and if so, do you think they could be purchased for under market thanks I appreciate it. I’m interested in getting a used catamaran on a blue collar budget.
Would this work woth aluminum, as in the aluminum used now in some cargo trailers thst hold hundreds of pounds with no frame, then a layer removabale top that would be eashabke and keep the platform cool. I was thinking of a longer swim platform that was fold out twice. How did the swim platforms interact with an additional outboard engine?
Saves a huge amount of money NOT having to buy a sailboat with a sugar scoop. Plus more sailboats to choose from just by knowing the swim platform can be added.
While I doubt you could have found it there, you could have made a platform from a sheet of Corian or polypropylene plastic (cutting board stuff) without all the efforts of prepping, fiberglassing, etc.
So glad you made this video. Lol. The swim platform is a must have.
It really is!
Nice! Inspiring me to tackle my own yacht that doesn't have a sugar scoop. Thanks 😀
You can do it!

Oh wow! Good to know.
This is a fantastic idea! Thank you for the project! Ha!
Glad you like it!
Cool project!
Thank you! Cheers!
Happy sailing soon!
Fingers crossed!

That's awesome buddy. I'm glad to hear you're getting after it! Hope you're working towards a boat of your own.

I'll try that next time. Thanks!
Great information, I love the scientific approach for your iterations. This video video deserves way more views.
Much appreciated!

Loved this video, right amount of detail and well made. Might have to attempt a swim platform 1.0 on my boat now! Stoked to see more vids on the water
Glad it was helpful! Send a picture of 1.0 when you're done!

Not that I know of
Do you have a video of how you made and attached the boss?
Just bolt a straight plank of wood to the back, then fill in the gaps with thickened epoxy.... it's basically that simple!
@@Adventureman_Dan what wood did you use and would you have preferred to use something different?

That could work.
It works great.
Nice work Dan 👍
Not sure if it’s just me, but the bg music is a little distracting while you’re talking.

Mmm should have ditched the rub rail-just more unnecessary holes bro. Looks the goods I guess.

Yeah I wanted to do that!
Their hertz rate seems to be different than the US in the marine supply store. Maybe 50 Hz like Europe? Shows up on the camera.
Yeah I know! I hated having to use that footage.
"Easily build a boss" just like that... So easy. 😅
I suppose I did have a little help. 😀
If only he had told us what store he found all these materials....
If only...
