Hola from Costa Rica I make Popcorn every 4:5 days. Coconut oil in a pot just a bit and Popcorn Delicious and healthy Well done. A good variety Pura Vida. 🎉
Dan, you're definitely on my short list of sailboat youtubers...Awesome content. One thing I've just started practicing on doing for provisioning is canning meats, fruits and vegetables. I've been doing some all in one pint jar meals, such as chicken and dumplings and stews.
Wow, you covered everything. Personally, I'd bring more canned chicken, tuna, and meat (dried salami, canned beef) overall because I only eat white fish, and sometimes crustaceans. I'd also bring flour, salt, sugar, and yeast to bake bread with. Mayo and pickles to make tartar sauce. Regular mayo w/siracha and sesame oil makes great sauce for spicy fish rolls. Ketchup, Worcestershire and horseradish to make cocktail sauce. Lots of canned veggies: greens, peas, corn, every kind of bean, spinach, potatoes, many that can be used with some mayo and spices to make pasta salads, etc. Jars of red bell peppers, olives, crackers, pickled relishes of different varieties, etc....I'm kind of a sauce and grazing type of person. Big meals make me tired so my provisions would be different from most. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your 100-day passage.
@@Adventureman_Dan Baobab fruit is known as "cream of tartar" because of the citric and tartaric acids in its pulp, which can be used as a substitute for the cooking ingredient: baobab powder- Super food dense with vitamins and minerals... fiber high in Vitamin C, Potassium and many others... 1 tablespoon contains more C than 5-6 oranges and more Potassium than 4 bananas. Many islands have it? From the tree of life Baobab Tree.
Love it Dan, I would add many jars of sauerkraut, a few whole heads of cabbage, a few 1kg bags of dried chickpeas, about 10 1kg milk powder bags, about 10kg of oats, and way more coffee. I'd die without my cabbage haha.
Caned beef. Put it on chips or tortilla with cheese, put in the microwave done fast and easy. Or you can mix it with noodles. Chilie for a change of pace.. Mash potatoe flakes aren't too bad.
When I watch most other boats provision it is helpful for my future plans. But usually it’s out of touch with the supplies I would want… it’s usually hundreds of cans of beer and bottles of wine. Yours is a lot closer to my tastes and how I cook. Making sure you have sauces etc for fish is really cool. Worcestershire sauce is a good one to flavor fish… it is made from anchovies.
Dan, I am 17 years old. This spring I plan to hit what you called "the grind" in one of your past videos and I will find a good deal on a boat and move aboard at 18, any tips?
I'm sure Dan has a ton of tips But I'll tell you mine anyways. Stick between a 28 and 32 footer. I'd have a professional look at it. Some projects are too much.
I'm a mobile mechanic in Colorado and i live in my van. I just bought 2 sailboats. It's a different challenge then having rent where the maintenance is covered. Some ways it's better. Some ways it's difficult. Take all of the options, weigh every choice. Sometimes buying diesel for heat means skipping a meal or two. I have other issues like where am I going to park and not be bothered
@@thewanderingrepairman5628 I am in training to become a pilot I will finish next year, it is weird because for 3 years I will barely be able to make ends meet, than go straight to making almost 100k a year. A lot of opportunities exist on the coast so I can make it happen with enough perseverance. I have watched a lot of videos and know how much work and stress sailboats are.
Go to the local yacht club in your area and "volunteer to crew". Its a common thing in the sailing community. Boat owners will appreciate the free labor and youll gain sail experience. EQUALLY importantly youll be known in the yacht club/marina so youll have an invaluable networking group wholl help you in sailing ⛵ ⛵ ⛵
Thanks Dan for a good video. It is the one thing I am having the hardest time with - trying to figure out what I'm going to eat in the Bahamas, You've given me several more ideas. One thing I would add for you is evaporated milk. It's regular milk just half the water, so add the other half back and you have regular milk again. And it tastes good ! Also you can make your own tortillas, if you aren't already. But yeah, good video, hope to share an anchorage with you somewhere !! 👍
You are so spot on with electrolytes, a couple of years ago I crewed on my friends boat for about 3 months. Only drinking RO water, at a certain point I went ashore by myself and was thirsty so I bought a 1.5L bottle of mineral water and almost guzzled the whole thing down in one go. My body really needed those minerals. Personally I'd stock a bit more coffee and some sugar (sugar is used in many baking things). Also I'd have more flower and yeast just for baking fresh bread. And spam, spam can be made Ito so many easy to prepare dishes. Love your videos, keep em coming.
Smoked oysters, sardines are easy to store and great protein. Artichoke hearts. Chick peas and tahini for homemade hummus. Boxed mushroom risotto is delicious. Salami lasts a long time.
Powdered : Eggs, Potatoes, Milk, and Vegetables. Old Fashioned Oatmeal. Frozen Berries and Breakfast Sausage Patties. Tang. Top 10 Healthiest Spices & Herbs because it’ll take a while for your plants to grow. Barbecue Rub and a 10 lb bag of frozen Chicken for a weekly menu break. Looking forward to seeing your 100 days of adventures!
When I store food away, in a freezer or etc.. I make a map, and a list of how many. I keep a spreadsheet of inventory. and what I ~~plan on eating the next cpl of weeks... a short list of nice to have stuff incase I go a a market. The I stage the odd items for the 2 weeks in a handy place.
I've been sailing for 14yrs mostly solo in remote areas. I cant get the fancy stuff and probably out of my budget. But, my go to items are egg coated in vaseline, cabbage, potatoes, fresh garlic, and carrots cut, peeled and soaking in water. All these items last a long time and can be found in most villages. Fresh fruit can be challenging other than coconuts. I would like to try the sprout garden.
Ketchup, pickles in a jar, I know space is at a premium. Do you have an extra electricity? If you do I'd bring a solar battery like a 1000watt Jackery if you can charge it during the day from solar. I'd also bring a camping refrigerator/freezer. The Jackery can keep it running all night long.
Nice job. Looks like a year worth if you catch fish every few days. I have 2 years food on my 37 footer. 3x freezers. Full of bacon, ground beef, butter.also freeze dried mountainhouse beef, bacon, eggs, butter, cheese cream. Carnivore. No sugar. Low carbs. Supper easy shoping.
What about dried beans and lentils ? If you can find an Asian store you might be able to get tomato sauce in a bag . Textured vegetable protein if there is a bulk food store available also ... I boil it with ramen when camping in Algonquin . Safe travels Dan.
Consider protein like Jerky, easy to pack and keep and will also provide a source of sodium. Honey of course i would have more of, you touched briefly on the benefits however there are so many including medical benefits, it also goes food with your lemon pepper on fish! A source in place of sugar for baking (way better for you), or as a dressing with olive oil on a salad (after all I am a beekeeper lol). I never saw coffee, I would need some coffee and teas. Freeze dried vegetables and fruit are also easy to store and do not take up much room. (We used this kind of stuff when we would head to the trap line for long periods of time. PS: heading out Wednesday to look at what I hope to be my new and first boat as well as complete my ASA 101, 103,and 104 course out of Grenada!
More proteins. I do frozen, canned and freeze dried meats. Low sodium canned and freeze dried veggies. I use butter, ghee, tallow and duck fat. Can’t do much carby sugary stuff.
TOMATO PASTE/ garlic, onion sprouts, different pastas...cheap too. Maybe take some chicken broth and, simmer some tuna in it..can it, Mason jar..Make your own tuna with your home grown basil..oh yeah. Oregano Mozzarella, flour, make your own pizzas, flat breads ect.. when you're on the the hook anyway
Unless its canned, expiration dates aren’t a big issue on seasonings etc. might only consider the elements and moisture than anything if its been affected.
I would add a dozen bags of various beans and if you an find it, shelf stable tofu and tempeh to address your concern of protein when fish is not happening. Salt. Instant coffee. Tea. Cocoa. Mostly to trade or help others. If you have room and can get them cabbages.
Just remember that "best before" is NOT the same as "expired" or "use before". Canned food, pasta, rice and condiments ect usually last for many, many years after the best before date.
There's protein and protein. Peanut butter is very low nutrition protein compared to meat protein which is nutrient dense. You can store hard cheese, ham and dry sausage, beef stew in tins, chicken pie, potatoes , carrots, green beans in cans. The cassoulet is a good example. Good luck!
Do some homemade sauerkraut Dan. Easy, stores forever, great for the gut, ect. Definitely shoot some goats, I been wondering about that for along time as I watch all these videos. Eat the heart and liver, plus all the meat. If the freezer has room I would freeze some steaks or ground beef. A steak every 10 days would hit the spot. Also creatine is super cheap and very healthy for you in many ways. Just some thoughts @adventuremandan
Hey mate love your videos! Quick question I have a big fear of snakes and was thinking about sailing how many do you encounter in your daily life out at see or on land?
I would take anything animal origin products, and I'd add a not of chickpeas, green peas, soy, beans, more lenthils, a lot of fruit, more rice (Portuguese people eat lots of rice), flour, cocoa powder, carrots, a lot of greens like spinach, pumpkin. Other that that, I think you have a good list.
I did this about 15 years ago going around the Pacific Rim and it took me 55 days and I had enough food for 70 days in case of a storm or something like that. I would provision on various jerkies (venison, chicken, turkey, bacon, bison), some dried fruits, some fruit flavored chocolates, tortilla chips and salsa, rice, canned tomatoes, canned chicken, applesauce, peanut butter, sea sickness medicine, insect repellent, flashlights with various sizes of batteries plus power banks and a few flare guns.
question, you said the water maker strips all the salts out of the water and your body gets stripped of nutrients. I put Celtic salt in my water due to the same thing in the US. Since salt is minerals, and I've heard of people cooking with sea water, what would stop you from taking a tablespoon of sea water and putting it in every glass of water you drink? Honest question, just a thought.
I love milk but I don't have refrigeration so I go with high temp milk. It taste slightly cooked but good on cereal or much better when I have ice. Comes in chocolate too.
the only thing i would miss in that list is corn, potatoes, more rice and a few kinds of rdy to go thunasalad.... but i guess too much thuna is not too good for oneself ^^ but beside that you list looks pretty finished :D
That's really something to see how the adventure is made. And Cig is a minefield in those parts you travel. The best practice is to stay away from anything that's big for a reef predator species right, but there's a lot of damn species out there and that's no guarantee. I also immediately brain and gut the fish in the water, sharks be damned they're more attracted to commotion anyways, take the guts out no head just eat fillets, maybe it doesn't do anything, it's just anecdotal, but I've never gotten Cig yet, idk how. Fingers crossed for you for a healthy trip.
Mona island in the Caribbean but you need a permit. The island is a natural reserve. In the Bahamas it is different but I don't know if you need a permit.
Maybe some Emergency protein powder, and yea more spam .. try some corned beef also I like it better than spam also pre cooked meat last forever and cooks nicely
I notice you don't have any Tasty Bite or similar brand retort pouch Indian food. You might think about throwing a handful of those in assuming you can get them, they're shelf stable and quite tasty. I can recommend the channa masala which is the chickpea curry, but a few others like the lentils are pretty decent. Add some microwave in bag rice and its a meal ready in under 5 minutes. Also dried cheese tortellini (should be in the pasta section), which never seem to reconstitute all that well, but still taste pretty dang good when backpacking, so I'd assume on a long term boat stay they'd be enjoyable as well. Oh, and canned Wolf brand chili without beans. Good meaty food that can also be used as a topping for stuff like fried Spam or on a burger or pasta.
A few chicken’s running on the bridge 😅 for eggs More seriously i would make my own ramen and pasta so i ll buy a lot of flour . Lot of lentils as well,do you have crab traps ?
The meds you can get over the counter here in the DR is pretty insane. Stuff you could never get in the US. I'm actually going to try to get some IV stuff. I just had to take Nicole to the hospital the other night and they did an IV, it just seems soo useful to have and I know how to put them then.
He did a video about fish that are likely to have ciguatera, but in the end, you can not tell which fish has it and which doesn't. top tips... Harvest smaller fish. Ask the locals.
@danielgomessilva8966 I'm not an expert... Most fish that are diseased and ill will be taken out by predators. Ciguatera is a toxin that builds up in big fish from eating smaller fish who eat things off the reef. Ciguatera is not harmful to fish. It's harmful to us when we eat it. I'd suggest looking for the video he made about it if you're interested. It had a lot of good info. He posted it 2 weeks ago.

@danielgomessilva8966 take a look at the video he posted two weeks ago about ciguatera. He went into pretty good detail. It's titled "ciguatera fish poisoning simplified & explained."
I’m really impressed with the detail you put into your provisioning. Making sure you have enough to last is important. Not relying on what you “might” catch. I will say I know you mentioned that you love that ramen but it’s sooo bad for you. My ex is from Hong Kong and I use to eat that. They told me about why it’s yellow colors due to the wax put on it to keep it lasting and that it’s bad for your stomach. Was taught always look for ramen that is white or clear color.
Remember that the majority of my protein will come from spearfishing & ocean harvesting. That is why I don't have more canned meats or jerky. Otherwise I'd stock up! 😅
I'm carnivore, so I would have a hard time. I'd need a LOT of freezer space, I'd pre-package all my meat in 2 day amounts like I do at home (I always buy during holiday sales) I wonder how much freezer space it's possible to make in a boat? So fish we catch and frozen meat, and a lot of Pemmican. I'm unable to eat a single thing you chose :( I have terrible reactions to everything. So this is a real question for me when I go anywhere that isn't home.
No canned tomato stuff for spaghetti sauce? Soft drinks? Powderered drink mixes? Coffee? Creamer? Sugar? Potatoes? Onions? Real cream lasts forever in the fridge.
I seen some glass jars, i would cautoon to much tomato in can i had bad experience in a flood with salt water alot of the cans burst .. maybe from acidity kr something?
I know, you said it in the video that you were going to spearfish for protein. But what happens if you break the fishing gun or you lose it or something else happens. That’s where I’m coming from. Having a canned reserve a protein maybe a good idea maybe not. In any case great content keep it up. Have fun.
Cool video, you Must not like pancakes. I just subscribed. Look forward to your 100 days. Is it not wise to have a pellet gun on board perhaps for squirrels? If you get a chance, let me know. This is Santana, 28 restoration and sailing Preparing my boat to 1 day, join The ocean-going sailors of the world. I would prefer to SAIL in a convoy with several boats. Case someone gets in trouble. Good luck, bro.
Good haul Dan. I would have more dried fruits, frozen veggies, potatoes, garlic, onions for stews and stir fry’s. (You can regrow green onions by sitting the root in water).
More importantly, you may also want to consider items for probiotics. Maintaining gut health is crucial. A well-balanced gut microbiome supports digestion, immune function, and overall well-being. Also, probiotics may have a positive effect on your mood and mental health, a connection often referred to as the gut-brain axis. Here’s how you can support gut health while storing food for 100 days on a boat:
• Probiotic Supplements: These are the most reliable way to get a consistent source of beneficial bacteria. Choose a high-quality, shelf-stable probiotic supplement that includes strains like Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, or Saccharomyces boulardii.
• Fermented Foods: While fresh fermented foods may be impractical on a boat, you can store shelf-stable fermented options like:
• Fermented pickles (unpasteurized and kept in brine, not vinegar)
• Kimchi or sauerkraut (look for shelf-stable or dried versions)
• Miso (paste, which can be used in soups or sauces)
I’d be interested on hearing about how you’re going to be prepared for fixing broken things on a boat and what spare parts you’re going to have for “when” things break during the 100 days…thanks!
Great tips, thanks for the insight!

Great suggestions! We are trying to stay away from too much canned food, but it’s good to know our options!
yes but any canned stew or such is 100x more nutrient rich... don't forget beef jerky. Good luck
Good content… always wonder what others stock up on
Glad you found it helpful!
Great ideas! Thanks for the tips.
Organic honey and apple butter.
Yes! That will be perfect for the boat.
@Adventureman_Dan This 100 day mission is something we all should probably be practicing.. Makes a lot of sense and builds familiarity.
Thanks!
Hey cheers, Pat, I appreciate ya! 👏
Another great video. What are the visa requirements for American citizens living on their own boat in the Caribbean?
None, just check into a country.
question, you said the water maker strips all the salts out of the water and your body gets stripped of nutrients. I put Celtic salt in my water due to the same thing in the US. Since salt is minerals, and I've heard of people cooking with sea water, what would stop you from taking a tablespoon of sea water and putting it in every glass of water you drink? Honest question, just a thought.
Honestly, that's a good idea. I might boil the seawater first. But otherwise could be viable.
I love milk but I don't have refrigeration so I go with high temp milk. It taste slightly cooked but good on cereal or much better when I have ice. Comes in chocolate too.
I've never tried it, but that sounds like a good alternative!
the only thing i would miss in that list is corn, potatoes, more rice and a few kinds of rdy to go thunasalad.... but i guess too much thuna is not too good for oneself ^^ but beside that you list looks pretty finished :D
Yes, you are right about ciguatera, it's a real threat out there and it's important to be aware.
Were can you hunt goats and pigs in the Caribbean?
Mona island in the Caribbean but you need a permit. The island is a natural reserve. In the Bahamas it is different but I don't know if you need a permit.
Maybe some Emergency protein powder, and yea more spam .. try some corned beef also I like it better than spam also pre cooked meat last forever and cooks nicely
Great suggestions, thanks!

That's a great suggestion!
Great work! How do you plan to store/get rid of your trash?
Good question: what little I make will be burned or things like jars, reused.
“A well-fed man can forget his dinner, but a hungry man can't forget his appetite.” -Herman Melville
Green pea soup with sliced hot dogs. Don't knock it till you try it.😊
Cure for force 8 blow
That sounds like a great combination!
Good suggestion! I'll check it out!
What do you do with the trash you generate? Do you have to go to a marina weekly to offload trash?
A few chicken’s running on the bridge 😅 for eggs
More seriously i would make my own ramen and pasta so i ll buy a lot of flour . Lot of lentils as well,do you have crab traps ?
Love that!
Also, use that ramen and add peanut butter and you got pad thai.
Just found your channel and subscribed. What do you do with the glass jars, paper, garbage when out at sea?
I'm never out at sea long enough for that to be an issue.
Oh. Im new, so I assumed since you bought so much you were going for long period of time.
What's your med kit look like? Can you get Saline IV bags in the DR? Antibiotics? They are impossible to get in the US.
The meds you can get over the counter here in the DR is pretty insane. Stuff you could never get in the US. I'm actually going to try to get some IV stuff. I just had to take Nicole to the hospital the other night and they did an IV, it just seems soo useful to have and I know how to put them then.
I would also have dried fruits…
Thanks for the video, please put a shirt on 😅
No 😀
Hello. I am curious how do you sailors know if you caught a eatable fish or if it is poisonous. Thx
He did a video about fish that are likely to have ciguatera, but in the end, you can not tell which fish has it and which doesn't.
top tips... Harvest smaller fish. Ask the locals.
@@Chris-zo5ze what you mean is a fish that had a disease but normally is good, am i right? Or this fish has this Ciguatera always?
Thx for replying
@danielgomessilva8966 I'm not an expert...

Hey Sonny, You are on "Cloud Nine". It's not that hard to cruise or stay off the grid. The only problem you are going to have, is your vessel's draft.
Ha, yes, the shallows are always a challenge. I'm sure I'll be finding creative solutions to that problem!
I will have to look into that! I like to get creative with my meals.
@ the yellow color of the ramen is due to the wax coating on it meant to make it last longer. However it’s bad for our stomach
Remember that the majority of my protein will come from spearfishing & ocean harvesting. That is why I don't have more canned meats or jerky. Otherwise I'd stock up! 😅
Where's the bags of little chocolate donuts ?😅
Hidden from my girlfriend! 😄 🤣 😂 😆
bottled lemon juice makes an excellent lemonaide on a hot day. honey as a sweetner.
Great idea!
Deff need more vinegar!
That is why I spearfish everyday!
How big is your freezer? Why not more meat?
Because I spearfish a lot!
We will definitely be considering these options for the next trip!
So how much did you have to spend for all of this?
It's probably about $1000 total.
I put a can of that chunk chicken in ramen noodles....
💚
Kewpie has msg not that you probably care.
Bro u eating to much 😂😂
Where's the BEER..😊
Sober all the way!
I'm sorry if I missed it but why can't you go to a store if you're in a country?
I'm doing a challenge to test how far/long I can go off grid.
What about eggs?
More canned protein... as a backup. The body can survive without carbs but never without protein and fats.
Spearfishing 🐟 🐠 😀
I know, you said it in the video that you were going to spearfish for protein. But what happens if you break the fishing gun or you lose it or something else happens. That’s where I’m coming from. Having a canned reserve a protein maybe a good idea maybe not. In any case great content keep it up. Have fun.
Canned food is far healthier than your high sugar diet 😂
Don''t remove the labels on the Peanut Butter unless you want a deceased girlfriend!!
I would be packing lots of jarred pickles . The juice has electrolytes and I loveeeee pickles . 😂 Probably would take up a lot of weight though.
This is a year supply 😳
