Great content as always Professor! Don Granato has Sharks connections as his brother Tony Granato played for the Sharks in the mid-nineties and is one of my all time favorite Sharks players. I have heard rumors of Marco Sturm also in the possible mix and Marco Sturm is another one of my all time favorite Sharks players and a very clutch player until he broke his leg on a icing call before the time of automatic icing. Honestly I would love to see a Kevin Constantine type coach who could turn the Sharks around similar to that awful 2nd season to that miracle 3rd season only a crossbar away from the Conference Finals had Johan Garpenlov not clanked it off the crossbar against the Maple Leafs back in 94. I was at the Sharks rally back in 93 in downtown San Jose and shook George Kingston's hand and told him "good luck next year" only to see him fired the very next day haha. Drew Remenda has said it often that George Kingston and his coaching staff were "hired to be fired" because the 1st two years of the Sharks were so bad

Warsofsky is the guy. Starts as an asst at every level, then becomes the HC, not only develops the players but he is a proven winner at the professional level. Low key feel like Greir knows this and this was the plan the whole time. Start out as an assistant, put in the hours before handing the team over. Usually when a HC loses the locker room, player lean on the assistant. There is a relationship that was already built, so much so that the players felt comfortable enough to say they didn't want Quinn in the locker.. if that indeed happened. He also has coached 3 current Sharks goalies that are in their system before they came to San Jose. David Carle would be interesting but he already said no way he leaves Denver unless its the absolute perfect scenario. Necas is available and Warsofky coached him in his first year pro before playing for the Canes.

As an Oilers/Sharks fan, bring back Woodcroft. Without the level of pressure that comes with coaching the Oilers and McD/Drat, I think he could really build an identity on the ice over the course of 2-3 years for the Sharks. I'd be really happy with him behind the bench.

I would take David Carle as head coach. He may not have NHL coaching experience, but he has done an excellent job at Denver (leading them to their 10th championship this past year). He is also 34, so he has plenty of youth and energy to bring. And, since he would be a rookie head coach joining a team that is in massive rebuild, he and the team would be able to grow and develop together hand in hand. San Jose cannot mess this up, they need to hire a guy who can lead them to success for the next decade and I feel that David Carle is that guy.

I've heard Marco Sturm being thrown around a bit, not sure if that's just the German connection with Hasso

@@imthebeatplug_8319 True, there are a lot of former Sharks like Nabby and Ricci on the staff

If I was Grier I’d go Granato or Carle. Granato is the safe pick, Carle if you want to be experimental while the sharks are young and have a tumultuous future

Granato couldn’t turn the Sabres around, keep him far away as possible from sj

@@Staxxx23 I wouldn’t blame buffalo’s situation on Granato. He put the sabers best string seasons together since 2011. I weigh that more than Buffalo in context of the entire league these days

Craig Berube or Jay Woodcroft for me, I think Keefe is a great developmental coach and that in itself is extremely important

I love the Woodcroft idea. Fun to speculate the Sharks future right now. Excited to see it come to fruition.

I'd like to know about the mutiny that Woodcroft was forced to endure in Edmonton.
    Were the players justified?

    Hey Professor,
I am really looking forward to seeing Mike Grier's choice. It's kind of a tough spot I would say for a prospective coach given the Shark's situation. Quinn made it two seasons and it lost his job. It is certainly within the realm of possibility that we have 2-3 more bad seasons before we turn this franchise around. If that is reasonable to assume it seems likely the bandwagon/barbarian fans who react constantly and don't think much will be screaming bloody murder for the new coaches head. They are already yelling for Grier's head after just two seasons!
Seems to me that anyone who takes the job has to expect to be fired after or even before 2 seasons is up unless a minor miracle happens and the Sharks break the drought and make the play offs or at least get close enough to challenge to get back in.
Seems like almost being a sacrificial lamb.

With the high amount of turnover, I think most coaches come in with the thought that they will likely be fired within a couple of years. The goal might just be to get an extension after the original deal so you can at least be paid while fired, like Keefe in Toronto haha
