Some might call it a Mario Kart 64 rip-off, but I think it actually has much more to offer. Diddy Kong Racing takes place in an open world with access to different themed areas and races. Each area consists of 4 unique races, one mini-game and a boss battle as well as a Trophy Race. Essentially, all race tracks are played three times. The first race is the easiest, whereas the second one features silver coins that need to be collected as well as better AI. The track can then be played for a third and final time during the Trophy Race but I haven't found the AI to be more difficult here than during the silver coins challenge. Once Wizpig is defeated for the first time and all of the content has been completed, you can visit the lighthouse to gain access to the final world and the second Wizpig battle. There's nothing special to take note of here. The difficulty is linear with the rest of the game and even the second Wizpig battle is easier than the first. On that note, many people seem to struggle with the first Wizpig battle (rightfully so) and I will therefore share some crucial tips here. The one and *only* way of beating Wizpig is by understanding how to get the most out of the booster pads. You are supposed to hold off the accelerator button shortly before hitting the booster pad and you must not press it again until the boost has worn off. If you hit the booster pad correctly, the colour of your flame should be different. By pressing the accelerator button again you'll quit the boost early, so you don't want to do that either.
Thanks for the tip with regards to how to beat Wizpig. I never could beat him and after several tries I finally gave up. Maybe I'm gonna play DKR on my N64 again with these useful tips in mind.
My cousin in Mexico use to have a Nintendo 64 before and he has both Super Mario 64 and Diddy Kong Racing, so we played both cool Nintendo games all day and feel so nostalgic
As someone with not a lot of friends with to play with when I was younger, Diddy Kong was a much better game for me, and I had both Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing. Mario Kart doesn't have near as much content in it. And I like the music in Diddy Kong better as well.
Diddy Kong Racing is a classic! There is great characters, courses, and more that makes this exciting! It’s one of the best racing games ever to exist and for great reasons!
This game helped define my gaming experiences as a kid. I was like 13 when it came out, and I spent all through high school playing this. An absolute classic
Now that Nintendo and Microsoft are playing nice again, it does open up that possibility. I personally want Microsoft to bring Rare Replay to the Switch.
I don’t think me or any of my siblings realized that there was an outer space portion to this game… we always ended when we beat the pig boss the first time. My mind was blown watching this replay just now, and I question my entire childhood
The fact that this game combined Adventure and Racing, along with the beautifully vivid colorsand whimsical natural landscapes made it stand out as one of the all-time best games on the N64. Still have it today on my original N64!
the thing i love about rare games is they seem to age so well. they have that same squash and stretch style that crash bandicoot has that seems to render it timeless
My goodness… I just went back over 20 years ago! Amazing how music and sounds trigger memories from so long ago! I love the game! My older brother Troy and I used to play this so much! So long ago. Music is iconic 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
My 8 year old self is cheesing and smiling my main was Timber but I frequently played with Conkor and Tiptup. I loved this game. I spend hours every day after school and play this. I am 35 now time flies, love the music, story and racing of it all. They did amazing with this game.
I loved this game when it came out. I couldn't stop playing. While i wish there had been even more exploration, it was already way more than you expect from a racer. The different vehicles were also way more varied than what you normally get. Being able to drive or fly the courses was a great choice by the developers.
Correct, you need to use all of the boostpads and hold off the acceleration button shortly before being boosted and whilst being boosted. The colour of your flame is different meaning you've done it correctly.
Diddy kong racing is such a unique title. Its not just a racing game, its also an adventure game. The story mode was excellent. And the graphics were great for an n64 game. Only problem with this game is it handles so differently than mario kart yet its so similar to mario kart that i have such a hard time getting used to the handling.
One of my absolute favorite games in the world. I wish nintendo would put it on the switch. Imho it was better than mario kart and i love mario kart lol.
I used to use Conker when I was younger, but replaying it has me realizing how op tiptup actually is on most of the courses due to his handling and acceleration.
The greatest Mario Kart rip-off. An old masterpiece. Used to beat Adventure Two with all 47 balloons. One thing I totally miss is this game had the true Conker, before Rare screwed him in Bad Fur Day.
I feel the same way. I never played Bad Fur Day due to being too young at the time but I don't know what they were thinking when they changed Conker into a drunken mess.
A racing game that wasn't an exact copy of Mario kart It had way more fun races, music is just top, difficult in some parts like the first battle with wizpig or the octopus I loved both the original and DS versions
I don't have this particular kart racing game, but I've heard of it though and it seems really fun too since it seems just as good as Mario Kart 64 in my opinion.

@longplayarchive which almost happened as a direct follow-up to this game that was going to release on GameCube, but when Microsoft bought out Rare, the project was scrapped and it was re-developed as Donkey Kong Barrel Blast on Wii.

Hello, nostalgia, my old friend. So happy to see you!
Can't wait for this to come to the NSO Expansion Pack one day.
Grew up playing this classic game

Is it really coming to the switch?!?!?! If so, I am HYPED.@@kevinhoward9053
Imagine if diddy kong racing was returning for nintendo 64 online, i would be stoke to play this nostalgia game
Finally he did a long play of a classic
I Always Liked This Game However For Me It Was Hard Beating Wizpig In The First Race No Matter What Character I Used
Correct, you need to use all of the boostpads and hold off the acceleration button shortly before being boosted and whilst being boosted. The colour of your flame is different meaning you've done it correctly.
The whole winter section is the sole reason I come back to relive this game
What a game guys. What a game.
One of my most racing games and my childhood
childhood favorite! =)
I loved this game as a kid racing and battling. Also we had s’more pop tarts. Ohh the memories
Golden Balloons in Diddy Kong Racing (1997) are equivalent to Jiggies in Banjo-Kazooie (1998) and Power Stars in Super Mario 64 (1996).
No shit sherlock

Oh my gosh❤ I used to play it all the time! I still have it actually but my old n64 is giving out 😭
Awesomeness game please do golf games like tee off for dreamcast please thanks 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great game very underrated game ahead of its time where its open world racing as well different vehicles to mix in a story mode to multiplayer
i loved this game
Reject adulthood, return to DKRacing.
The soundtrack goes so hard
1. Banjo
2. Bumper
3. Conker
4. Diddy Kong
5. Drumstick
6. Krunch
7. Pipsy
8. T.T.
9. Timber
10. Tiptup
I used to use Conker when I was younger, but replaying it has me realizing how op tiptup actually is on most of the courses due to his handling and acceleration.
I miss the days of playing this on my GXTV. Shame they don't make games with the same heart these days.
I want to play it so badly now lol
This game is joyous, incredible game! 🎉
Conker in Diddy Kong Racing: 😊
Conker in Conker's Bad Fur Day: 💀
The greatest Mario Kart rip-off. An old masterpiece. Used to beat Adventure Two with all 47 balloons.

Yeah they made conker better.
My Childhood.
😍😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Rare needs to make a racing game similar to this game but with other existing Rare characters.
Microsoft wouldn’t be interested in anything from Rare that isn’t Sea of Thieves, but one can hope another studio can convince them…
This is the Diddy I grew up with
The nostalgia on this hurts 😢
This was an incredible game, only downsides. it was on the n64 and isn't on steam.
It's a Nintendo and Rareware game.
@@maverickhuntermeta4954 well the main problem would be Nintendo, Microsoft owns Rareware atm

My second favorite racing game on the Nintendo 64 after Mario Kart 64.
A racing game that wasn't an exact copy of Mario kart
It had way more fun races, music is just top, difficult in some parts like the first battle with wizpig or the octopus
I loved both the original and DS versions
Silver Coins in Diddy Kong Racing (1997) is similar to Nintendo Coins in Donkey Kong 64 (1999).
It’s on like *Diddy Kong!*
This game should've been as successful as Mario kart
Conker was always my main!
I never owned it but I knew it was a good Kart racer!
I don't have this particular kart racing game, but I've heard of it though and it seems really fun too since it seems just as good as Mario Kart 64 in my opinion.

I have this game a long time ago but I don’t have it anymore
2:45:21 Suspicious 🤔
It's not a human playing.
Of course not, it's a monkey
What I wouldn't give for a new game on the Switch.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think we received a sequel to this game.
They need to port this to switch NOW
Just remember: winners don’t use Crunch
Pipsy ALL THE WAY!!!
Conker before he fell off the wagon.
