Back in the late 90s my boyfriend at the time worked for a glass company. He was sent to install stained glass at Colin's house in Topanga Canyon. I tagged along that day to help. I remember Colin as very kind, down to earth, and funny. He showed us his Grammy he had sitting on top of his fireplace mantle. We spent several hours there. Definitely something I'll never forget.
I have a similar story, only that we did a full house furniture move for him. We got half way through the move in, It had been a three hour drive, plus the move out, and had half a truck left. He made us a cup of tea, and we all talked for two hours. No pretentious BS. Just a bunch of guys sharing anecdotes.

But there was such talent in bands like this. I was like a sponge, learning everything I could from bands like this. Colin's voice is amazing.
I saw Colin Hay’s solo concert in 2016. He was incredible! So funny, and a wonderful storyteller. He got very emotional talking about Greg passing away, the sax player from Men at Work. They were very close friends. If you ever have the opportunity to see him live, you must go. You won’t regret it 😊
blind in one eye, legally blind in the other, Colin Hay is an inspiration and one hell of a writer/singer. I'm in awe of people like him who rise despite extra challenge.
Blind in one and can't see out of the other, OMG. I learn something everyday. Been working on these songs with my bandmate in Savu, Indo. Even in 2024 they're proven, classic, & awesome compositions, if Greg Ham is dead, RIP, sad loss for the industry. What skills he had!! PS the black yammy ( or Ibanez)guitar is a black beauty.

The death knell came at the 1983 Grammy Awards when Men At Work took home the Best New Artist award. An award that has jinxed many new bands over years including Milli Vanilli Shelby Lynne, Evanescence , Amy Winehouse , Sam Smith and Meghan Trainor. I don't think Colin Hay got the recognition he truly deserved. He had one of the most unique, distinctive voices ever. His songs were timeless and recognizable, even decades later!

Men at work business as usual is one of my moat favorite albums. My son and I would toodle around in my Ranger truck, dreaming of going to the sea to find treasure. Priceless.
Besides their undeniable musical talent and musicianship, what always stood out about Men At Work to me was the way quite some of their songs did not treat topics concerning mental health and existential dread not allegorically or in sarcastic or cynical ways (as was the norm), but in a very personal and vulnerable fashion. Them being "Aussie blokes" always made it all the more special.
Having seen many performances over the years, MAW maintained accuracy in their shows. Us novices know that it must be hard to do it the same way show after show and yet they stay true to the masterpieces they created.

I still can’t believe the world lost Greg over copyright issues which could have been avoided if the band had bought the copyright themselves for a few thousand dollars which would have avoided the horrendous and hugely expensive court cases. All because of a few thousand dollars which could have been wisely invested to protect them and ensure they stayed in complete control

Listrn to the most recent episode of Hit Parade. You'll love it
