Gene CLEARLY holding back his laughter when Bobby made the "both of them" teeth joke 🤣🤣🤣!! What a great time to be alive and be a pro wrestling fan. Rest well gentleman - Nick, Bobby and Gene.
Bockwinkel and Heenan. What. A. Pairing. It's not often we've seen both a manager and the wrestler he's representing be capable of cutting amazing promos.
Used to think Ric Flair gave the best promos, but Nick was more articulate & to my knowledge never resorted to screaming. Plus he was great in the ring too.
+TNO73 That's because Nick Bockwinkel was more intellectually curious and confident than Ric Flair. I'm a fan of both men, but Bockwinkel was the true cerebral assassin, in and out of the ring.
Much like Jake the snake Roberts. His promos were always calm and calculated. Telling Ted Dibase he was wallowing in his muck of avarice. How many wrestling fans knew what "avarice" meant.
After all these years there is still nobody that can do the arrogant heel any where close to Bockwinkle. Add the greatest manager of all time and you have something priceless!! This is as good as gets!
These two men were geniuses at talking. The best writers in Hollywood couldn't write stuff like that and Bockwinkle and the Brain just made it up. We will never see wrestlers like that again.
Today's wrestlers are complete no talent idiots. They are muscular and athletic but they suck at entertaining. Today's wrestling has to be micromanaged to the point where EVERY single thing is choreographed and scripted. It is lame and I refuse to watch it.
"And you know how you prepare DOG? You don't put cranberries to it you don't put stuffing to it you put the boots to it." I nearly fell out of my chair lol.
I still can't believe he has just gone.... one of the saddest days in wrestling ever. One of the greatest of all time, without a shadow of a doubt. RIP Nick Bockwinkel, thanks for the memories and your HUGE contributions and legacy.
An illustration of how good Nick Bockwinkel was on a promo: He was going to wrestle Dory Funk Jr. for the NWA world title, and in his promo he walked out with a dictionary. He opened it up and just read the definition of "funk." He then calmly closed the book and walked off. Sheer brilliance.
I read the wrestling magazine when I was a kid. Nick Bockwinkel was a confident and very assure of himself as a wrestler and he proved it. Yes he was a heel , but he never screamed or acted crazy.
What an era it was. Week after week Nick Bockwinkel and Bobby Heenan would take to the airwaves with golden oratory to denounce their opponents who lacked intelligence or reasoning power and the great unwashed who supported them. It was like having Abraham Lincoln deliver a new Gettysburg Address each week. Thank you Gumper Van Lier for making these import promos available for our enlightenment and edification.
If he was 10 years younger he would have been the Million Dollar Man.... he was Vince McMahon's first choice but he told Vince I don't think I'm going to be able to keep the schedule up that you would need so Vince went to Ted DiBiase. This guy would have tore it up. Rest in peace Nick
The most underrated all around wrestler of all time..Great look ..Great on the mic and a hell of a worker..To bad he was wasted headlining for the AWA...
2:12 The Vikings, despite skidding after a 6-2 start to the season, due in large part to key injuries, somehow managed to win 17-14 at Pittsburgh that day, who then went on a bit of a skid themselves.
Bockwinkel is a top 3 American all time for me, dude was one of the best ever at everything regarding wrestling. "i have to respect my intelligence" is a killer line and it just goes up from there
Nick should be remembered along with the likes of Flair, Blanchard and so forth. The " classy heel" great promos and great skills but he's often forgotten sadly
The Vikings game talked about was: November 20, 1983 Vikings at Pittsburgh Steelers W 17-14 7-5 Three Rivers Stadium They did try to lose that game. Their strategy was missing field goals. But the Steelers wanted to lose it more.
When the whole premise of the business was the fact that wrestling was presented as REAL dammit. Over the years kayfabe took a beating or two but now she's dead. Thus, a once great business is dead.
+Rebecca Lundberg I think that was the year the Vikings had a real bad season. I think they won only 1 game or maybe 2. He's just playing the "bad guy". Around that time, he also made fun of the Gophers. They had a bad season and he stated he wouldn't coach them, even though they asked, because he didn't want to association ate himself with losers. You just witnessed three of the reasons the AWA was the best Promotion in the history of the business before Vincie Boy Jr destroyed pro wrestling forever. WWE sucks. WCW was fairly good until they went haywire toward the end of the NWO thing...
“How’s the Vikings gonna blow it today?” Nearly 40 years later, we’re still asking that question
HAHAHA thank you from Minnesota

Yup...Only J.J. Dillon and Arn Anderson
@@TruthBTold- the Grand wizard and superstar billy Graham were great too
Bockwinkel and Heenan honestly remind me of Punk and Heyman.
Two absolute MASTERS - Heenan and Bockwinkel. Brilliant workers.
I LOVE how they just walk off after they’re done. Such greatness!
Pretty sure that walk-off was only ever physically possibly in the ‘80s…
Used to think Ric Flair gave the best promos, but Nick was more articulate & to my knowledge never resorted to screaming. Plus he was great in the ring too.
I totally agree, TNO73. He made sound has if it was real.

Extra credit for use of the word "Retrogress".
Bockwinkle old school from his dad.

Best talking combination ever. A legitimate athlete who could articulate trash talking with the best and most entertaining manager ever. Pure gold

Maravi Yoso I love this promo but ok boomer
@@TenshinhanIsKing this is a real promo, they did these from the heart, off the cuff. Not the written shit wrestlers now do.

He nearly cracked up Nick and Gene LOL
GothTower , me too. He was so funny.
Ask Mr. Fuji. He'll tell you ALL you wanna' know about cooking dog ;)
Bobby Hennan is promo gold; his wit is sharp as a kitana.

Nick's promos were awesome. Bockwinkel and Heenan were awesome together.
A master on the mic and he has the best mouthpiece in the business .. no wonder the AWA was the best

I been knew about Bock being a good promo but it was his passing that brought me here to see his work. Boy was he verbose. RIP.
They were the cream of the crop for many years in AWA - Bockwinkel and Heenan
Bockwinkel was 48-49 years old here. I like the promos that veteran wrestlers mature into giving.
“... when he’s getting his teeth kicked out, both of em...”. You can see Mean Gene almost lose it when Bobby delivered that line.
RIP Nick Bockwinkel
Three legends no longer with us showing the new generation of wrestlers how to cut a promo
R.I.P. Nick Bockwinkel! 2015 has been a shitty year for pro wrestling.

What an amazing promo.

Wasted? They were a huge territory in late 70’s, when he was their champion.
Listening to Bockwinkel is great stuff.and it's also sad that all three,Nick,Heenan, and Mean Gene are no longer around
I only knew about Nick Bockwinkle from wrestling magazines because the AWA wasn't on TV in my area. Wish he had had stints in NWA and/or WWF.
2:12 still brings true to this day
I remember watching AWA on Saturday nights from 5-6 !!! It was a special time for me.
2:12 The Vikings, despite skidding after a 6-2 start to the season, due in large part to key injuries, somehow managed to win 17-14 at Pittsburgh that day, who then went on a bit of a skid themselves.
