  • NICK BOCKWINKEL
The picture-perfect professional who many believe to be one of the greatest of all time!
Good looks, great interviews, intelligence, skills and one of the longest title runs in the history of wrestling made him one of the most intriguing men in wrestling.
The King, who had dozens of incredible matches with Bockwinkel dating back to the late 1970s, offers up some incredible facts about Nick.
There are similarities between Bockwinkel and Ric Flair but one this is perfectly clear....Nick never had to yell or scream to get heat or command respect. His promos includeda vocabulary that went over the average persons head. You could easily hate him.....but never deny he will go down as one of the best ever.
Also features highlights of his first meeting with Lanny Poffo and a match with Ric Flair.

Bockwinkle was the epitome of a World Champion and I was fortunate enough living in Texas to see him on SW Championship Wrestling and live against Jerry Lawler at the Joe & Harry Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio not to mention his bouts vs Dusty Rhodes in the Houston area, Great Times in Pro Wrestling!

When I was a kid and I knew a Nick Bockwinkel promo was coming up I would run and get a dictionary because I knew he was going to use a lot of words that I didn't know, and when I looking them up they were so perfectly placed, he was amazing.

Nick Botwinkel had the look, the style, the swag/Drip, him and Heenan were a pairing that people have been trying to copy ever since. He could go with anyone, any style. Easily in my Top talk

Bockwinkle stayed in great shape and worked his butt off in the ring. He also was a master of 70's and 80's style wrestling, skills on a par with Flair and Race.

You could say that was the first big gold belt. Tony atlas said the same and I saw some of matches against jumbo tsuruta. He also had a great match against curt hennig.

"May I say that, first of all,if my big words seem to put you a bit off center...I'm not talking to you or YOUR fans... I'm talking to MY fans."

Bockwinkle's arrogance came from being physically and mentally superior to the fans. Flair's arrogance came from being "The Man" with all the money and coming to your town to nail all your women.
Both effective, but Bockwinkle's tougher to pull off. But he did it.

@@kingcast I was lucky enough to see a Bockwinkle Lawler match in person. I was a kid and in complete awe that I was witnessing a world champion. I was also lucky enough to see Hennig and Lawler when Curt was still the AWA champion. I really miss those times.

I grew up on the Memphis promotion so obviously I was, and still am, a big Jerry Lawler fan. Since 1980 to today Kingfish is still my all time favorite. But Nick Bockwinkel isn't far behind. Nick was perfect in the role of world champion. I've never seen anyone carry the big belt better.

Bockwinkel’s 1,000+ day title reign isn’t even in the top 25 top lengths of reigns.

He was the Ric Flair of his time and i think Flair copied how he dressed glasses just how he acted but Flair took a better supplement for energy then Nick

Yep and Flair was trained by Verne Gagne & began his career in the AWA, where Bockwinkle was already an established star.

If I didn't know The King first,
Nick Bockwinkel might be my #1 all time favorite wrestler.
Like The King said, he was the epitome of a champion.
