johnafirth It was what the AWA did. The WWWF did it too. Superstar Billy Graham said he really didn't a manager, but was ultimately happy to have The Grand Wizard of Wrestling.
johnafirth Bock definitely didn't "need" a manager as a mouthpiece...as Bock was one of the greatest talkers in the history of the sport. At the same time, him and Heenan fit together like hand-in-glove. Two fantastic talkers and heels that played off each other perfectly
Bobby wasn't there to be Nick's mouthpiece, both had equal interview time in the majority of the promos they did. Bobby was there to get him more heat, to interfere in matches and to be an obstacle in the challengers' way. Best pairing in the history of the business.
@@jonathanturbide2232 Agreed. When I think of a wrestler and his manager, there's nobody else that I think about besides Bockwinkle and Heenan. An arrogant and self-entitled wrestler with a condescending, delusional, and comical manager. Heenan gets the fans to hate Bockwinkle more as a heel ( if possible). Great theater and a perfect 👌 pairing!!
@@jaybird1229 Yep! The more heat you generate, the more people you put in seats at the Arenas that they Wrestled in...and, of course, the more $$$MONEY$$$ that you made! Nowadays, so many Wrestlers don't have that kind of charisma... which is really sad...and totally pathetic!
I hate to be “that guy”, but they exited stage right. Stage left or right is the perspective from where the audience sees the stage, not the performers. So Bobby & Nick exited Stage Right.
In the case of Bockwinkel, his swag came across as a business man. PLUS he was a heel who wanted to keep the World belt around his waist. So IT MADE sense to have Heenan with Bock. Heenan could help Bock cheat to win, make him more hated, have the Heenan Family to do the dirty work. AND STILL come across as somebody who handles Bock's business affairs. In the case of Bock, he was SO IN DEMAND AND IMPORTANT that he needed somebody to handle his business. That's the logic when u have guys like a Bock, Flair, Tully, with a manager. So Bock having a manager was TOTALLY DIFFERENT than somebody like Kamala needing a manager! LMAO!!!
I love these promos because every promo Bobby shoe-horns a reference to a football or basketball team that is under performing, you can tell Bobby lost some money back then 😂
One of Heenan's ' jobs ' was to generate more ' heat ' on Bockwinkle and himself. Wherever they were taping or performing, they would insult the audience. Bockwinkle would call fans ' humanoids '. Heenan would call women ' toots ' or ' broads'. In Milwaukee, they were ' beer-swilling' or ' brat-eating buffoons '. Even to this day, wrestling will take a shot at the local sports 🏈 team. Since the AWA usually taped in Minnesota; that's why Heenan took shots at the Minnesota football team.
Nothing was better in the Upper Midwest, Canada, Denver than the AWA...They are still the Superior wrestling organization.......Any intervew with Bockwinkel and Heenan was amazing. These two had more charisma in their little fingers than any of the fakers like Hogan or the rest of the WWE scum like Goldberg. Give me Bockwinkel any day fighting with the Crusher for the belt. Nothing was better. Pro Wrestling was more popular than the Twins or the Vikings in Minnesota.
Nick Bockwinkel was an absolute word merchant.
Nick Bockwinkle and Arn Anderson two of the best promos in the business
"He's a master of karate, jui-jitsu, and all that!"
The best looking belt ever the AWA one..Nick was very underrated on the mic and in the ring..
You are joking right, the ten pounds of gold, as kids we all laughed at the awa title
@@jameschilders7423 best of the three worlds titles ( then) by far
I tend to agree
Growing up, the AWA was on Saturday mornings on WPIX New York. Loved it.
I really miss the territory days.
When the territories collapsed, that was the end of professional wrestling
R.I.P guys this is when wrestling was wrestling!
Black Jack Lanza once uttered : "I wanted to become a judge but I did not have the Latin !"
AWA Inmate belt was the best ever - Still haven't seen a replica that's accurate to the original.
RIP
Can't figure out why Bockwinkel needed a manager. He was a great talker in his own right.

One day I’ll be like the brain
Dead 💀??? 😉
Heenan was so funny.

Uh...great theatrical point ! 🤔

This is the first and only time in all these years I have ever heard Nick bockwinkel referred to as Bock. Where the hell did that come from?
I love these promos because every promo Bobby shoe-horns a reference to a football or basketball team that is under performing, you can tell Bobby lost some money back then 😂
Bobby Heenan mentions UofMinn...where did Brock go?

UCLA
South Dakota State I think
Heenan said he left the AWA because he knew where wrestling was going. But I liked this approach better. More entertaining and not so over the top.
Great man.
