You know, doctors are humans too. People tend to forget that. They can only work with the latest science. We/them are still mapping the human brain and all that is attached to it. Lots of unknowns in the world of surgery. Thank you for being a doctor let alone a neurosurgeon.
@@chrisolson3240I agree. Too many people fail to realize that they are still a human and not a super human. They have to do research on their own and of course they don't know everything. Just because they got a degree, doesn't mean you can learn to their knowledge. Anyone can do research and nowadays and become very smart in a particular subject.
Honestly 15 years fly by in the blink of an eye. Even faster when you’re doing something you’re passionate about. To anyone out there with dreams of pursuing a career in medicine, don’t let time be your deterrent; years will go by wether you’re still in school or working retail.
Discipline, hard work, passion, brains & money I suppose one especially needs to walk that long path... Right? Amazing job, Doctor Hoeflinger. Respect! Hope your spouse is revalidating well... All the best to her...
@marcoantoniojbify that's still pales in comparison to these overpaid sport ball dummies who don't contribute anything to the betterment of society or have any REAL utility in a community.
And than they say "only athletes are working hard to accomplish sth, they deserve to be paid millions a year". DOCTORS DESERVE WAY MORE BECAUSE THEY WILL SAVE YOU WHEN YOU ARE IN PROBLEM , NO ONE ELSE, not a single athlete, actress, singer etc.
Not to mention only the best of the best and sharpest of the sharpest are selected for that program. It’s a super tough program and demands only the best. Don’t kid yourself, very few med school grads are selected for this path of study. Hats off to you, sir, and your colleagues.
Considering the complexity of the human nervous system, fifteen years is surprisingly fast. No doubt tons of learning and practical experience. Can't imagine that effort. Your eyes SHOW IT.
I have a niece and nephew, brother and sister. Niece is in her 2nd year at UGA to become a Neurosurgeon 0and my Nephew just graduated high school as an honor student and valedictorian. He will begin his pilot training when classes begin in August. I'm a proud Auntie 🙂 .
I admire anyone who continues with, and completes their training in any medical field! To be able to save a life, change a person's future is an incredible skill! Well done to all doctors, surgeons, nurses!
How truly impressed and thankful I am for you and others like you ! Thank God for those who dedicate their lives to helping others . My one twin daughter is a nurse practitioner at Penn State Hershey medical center .. Hershey Pennsylvania on shock trauma /SICU unit ! What I have observed while watching her go through so much training … is the blood sweat and tears involved ! And she has given me a small glimpse at what the residents deal with … no sleep … studies etc etc … it has given me the greatest admiration for all those who give so much to help mankind ! I’m thinking my daughter would just love you !!!! I don’t think the general public realizes the cost … much more than financial … thank you for your dedication to helping others ❤
I could do all that training and schooling and pass but I still wouldn't feel confident enough to go into somebody's brain and mess around. I got to hand it to any sort of doctor of any kind out there y'all are amazing and fantastic and you work so hard to Keep Us Alive and healthy. It must be so rewarding completing every surgery you do knowing that you have saved someone's life or bettered someone's life. I feel like doctors of any kind don't get enough praise as well as dentist and eye doctors and plastic surgeons even.
Confidence to cut is a huge part of it. In my third year of medical school, there were people who were already scrubbed in to surgeries and assisting with really intense procedures (brain, heart, vascular, orthopedic). You either want it or you don’t.
I have the utmost respect and admiration for you Doc and other Doctors in this field. You guys are absolutely amazing. Most surgeons I’ve encountered have tbh been quite intimidating and not so friendly nor down to earth. But this Doctor has such amazing energy, so down to earth and has a lovely friendly face. ❤
and the training never ends, as it shouldn't Learning is lifelong...if passionate about learn, knowledge, and helping. THEN, after some time in convention medicine, you spend more money to actually get trained in root cause analysis and bring better care to the patients going outside the system to learn what we should have, within - like gut-brain connection, food is medicine or disease, 'etc'
I wish more people could really understand what you have to go through to become what you are. You are a different layer of human being who is here on earth to help others.🙏
A whole lot of work, a whole lot of studying, and a lot of training. That's great, because I don't expect any less from someone who could be drilling into my brain or slicing into my very troubled spine. Thanks, Dr. Hoeflinger.
And, those years give people more years with their loved ones. My late husband lived another 2.5 years after his massive craniotomy. His fibrolamellar cancer spread to his head. Without that neurosurgery and reconstruction, he probably would have only made it a few weeks. So, thank you for those years to the neurosurgeons out there! (And, amazing plastics surgeons doing reconstruction who figure out how to make a new brain container!)
That's a lot of years and education I think dedication is an understatement I have chiari 1 malformation & syringomyelia congenitial un treated I do wish society would shed more light on this horrific disorder as I get no emotional support or understanding due to looking pretty or ok. It the chiari Is shunned I feel even in the Neurological field Thank you for the video
I wanted to be a neurosurgeon but experience with patient date made me realize I was too of a soft touch. I couldn’t handle the weight of losing my patients. So instead of changing my field, I changed the branch of the field I wanted to be in. I found my perfect spot. Still get to experience direct patient care but do not have to deal with patient death.
Great respect for doctors, the subject they're dealing with is very hard and complicated, but as far as time spent, it takes just about the same amount of time to become proficient in any other technical occupation that involves troubleshooting and manual skills, e.g. plumbing or mechanical repair professional spent 10-15 yrs of including apprenticeships and school, as well, to become good at it, something that's overlooked a lot today.
You are an Amazing And Inspiration Doctor/Surgeon. Hope I never have to have brain surgery, but if I did, I would want someone like you. At my age you just ever know. God Bless You!!
Your commitment is overwhelming! I have a greater appreciation for my own neurosurgeon. I always thought highly of mine now I find him an awesome human.
I want this so bad I pray all the time that the Lord will allow me to live long enough that I can become a neurosurgeon. I’m already taking the steps to become a neurosurgeon and every time I think about it I feel so hopeful and full of joy. I want it so bad and I’m gonna get it by any means necessary!
And to think a lawyer can be done in 2-3 years and 42 torts. Far more respect for you sir. My father worked his way thru college then Univ of Illinois medical school (obGyn) into the tenements ( what stories). Then put to Bakersfield for residency. He was fine at 33 yrs also👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow.. I truly admire your vocation! God bless you 🙏🏼 My daughter is in her Junior year in high school right now, and she works so hard from now, because her will is to become a trauma neurosurgeon 🙏🏼
I don’t know you but I am very proud of you. I had the same ambition however I wasn’t able to be like you. I come from a refugee to Australia and difficult and different to learn the language with 3 little kids to look after and didn’t have anyone like you to tell my dream to hear it may be possible for me too. But I went to uni and with my limited English with great success finished Mathematics degree and I didn’t know this can be the start of my currier to be a medical doctor. Anyway, I am so proud of you and wish you the best in healing others.
Good! I'm so glad it takes that long! I was always told that they say that they 'practice medicine' because we never 'master' everything! It's not just 15yr of training to be a Neurosurgeon, it's also 15yr of experience and life in general! Thank you for that dedication! It's not for everybody! 🙏🏾
Actually a lifetime of learning. Unlike most of us, he probably takes his work home too. That's dedication. So thankful people like him find their calling.
It is amazing to me that anyone finishes as the training is so intense. Thank goodness you do though, we would be sunk without Healthcare professionals like you!
Watching your videos is inspiring. I think if I was younger I would love to have become a neurosurgeon. A vocation that ticks all the boxes for me. Thankyou. An amazing and life changing vocation. Inspired! MK Australia

Deepest respect to have completed such a lengthy and intensive medical doctorate. Absolutely Wonderful.

Yep. 15 years are gonna go by either way. Might as well be a doctor/surgeon at the end of it.
How are you so clever
Great words of wisdom 🙏🏾
Your parents must have been so.proud of you and hopefully still are.
I’m sure they are but both have been gone for a long time

@@doctorhoeflingersorry to hear that but they would 100% be proud of you

These guys deserve lots of money, not overpaid football players
They make almost a million yearly
Do you understand capitalism????
@marcoantoniojbify that's still pales in comparison to these overpaid sport ball dummies who don't contribute anything to the betterment of society or have any REAL utility in a community.
Yes bro but footballers also do a lot of hard work so they deserves a kot
Oh my! No statement more true than that one!!!!!
It’s a lot, but that’s the amount of years of training I’d want someone to have to work on my brain. Mad respect.
Dedication to your specialty is no joke. 5 yrs general surgery, and then fellowship training. Amazing the journey you Drs go through.
Not really neurosurgery residency is 7 years its seperate from a general surgery residency
I totally agree Surgeons and Doctors are the most Important people in Earth not athletes 🙏🙏🙏
