This really hits home. My 3-year-old had a brain tumor removed. I have so much respect for all surgeons but Neuro especially (for a good reason). I don't even know how to thank the surgeon that performed the procedure on my daughter. No more seizures or vomiting just a normal kid. Sooo much respect for your dedication!! Thank you!!!
I hope and pray your child recovered quickly and never ever has any more tumors again
@@olas16k this is the kind of comment youtube should be flourishing with :)
Imagine burning consistent pain from your shoulder all the way down to the tips of your fingers all the time for over a year. Then you meet one of these Docs and the next time you see him he has just done a double disk replacement and the pain is just gone. Nothing replaced it, no goofy feelings, it’s just normal again. You guys rock, I’m 5 weeks post op and haven’t felt this good in years.🎉
Love up
I’m 60 and don’t think I’ve washed my hands cumulatively more than this surgeon did in his 5 minutes !
😂😂😂
I had a massive staphylococcus infection in my neck which went undiagnosed for 7 days. I was paralysed down my right hand side and couldn’t urinate. I was dying. Then a wonderful neurosurgeon operated on me at 11pm on a Sunday night and cleaned out most of the pus. 6 weeks on IV antibiotics and rehab and I learnt to walk again. I can’t describe how much of a blessing this was. Marvellous people!
'Day in the life' = stands washing hands for 5 minutes. I was excited to see your actual day to day routine
You wanted him to wake up, place a camera a few feet away, then go back to bed and record him waking up and walking to the bathroom, then seeing him brush his teeth, get ready and have breakfast? He's a neurosurgeon who has scheduled surgeries to do and doesn't have time for that, not a new generation kid youtubing his life.
@@hayitsj21 it says day in the life. Yeah it kind stands to reason to show his daily routine.
@@hayitsj21 I’m a retired surgeon. I would have shown viewers my day consisting of seeing patients pre-op and snippets of the surgical procedure. I would also show video of seeing patients post-op. This was a very poor video indeed with a misleading title. Title should have been How to scrub prior to surgery. Lol
This is ep1 I think there is more to show on ep2
Bro works like 100hours a week he doesn't have time for shi like this
Miss working with you! One of the best neurosurgeons I’ve worked with hands down!
Sure buddy
For real, nobody likes the neurosurgeon they work for
@@dmoney4075 one neurosurgeon I like, the other I don't. Depends if they're an ass or not
@@dmoney4075 why

Outstanding video. My husband is a beneficiary of a successful Neuro surgery and there aren't enough words in a dictionary to express our gratitude to the dedicated team of Doctors, Nurses, and Assistants who made it all happen. Thank you!
Thank you Dr. McLaughlin for you years of study, your choice of study and your discipline in practice of your craft. My neurosurgeon played rock music during my surgery in 2004 (so I was told). He’s my hero and I am so grateful for his expertise as I am sure that is the way your patients feel about you.
I’m in awe of how incredibly intelligent, tough and resilient one must be to become a neurosurgeon. My brilliant cousin opted out because of the stress and became a neurologist instead.
I can only imagine the strength of the docs who specialize in neurosurgery. Amazing humans.
Just the beginning of an amazing mini series. I cannot wait for the next one! Providing students and others interested in health care a small scope of what it is like to live in your shoes. So awesome.
I have so much respect for these immensely talented and hard working people. These are the true heroes in society.
This is the type of content that UA-cam needs much more of. Please keep posting.
Fascinating view inside of your world! So many things I never realized just in this short episode. Looking forward to the next one.
As someone whos had multiple spine surgerys i have nothing but respect for men & women like urself
As an Electrical Engineer, I understand the importance of preperatory work. Preparing mentally for what you're about to do makes it so much easier when you do it, and avoid mistakes most importantly.
Great video. Also, I like that, around the 4 min to 4 min 22 seconds, you talk about positivity, gratitude, prayer. I'd trust you as my doctor. Checklist are also huge in medicine, very important to minimize error. Seems like you are very passionate about what you do, and thats great to know. Unfortunately, some in healthcare are not and don't put the patient first.
My beyond favorite part was him explaining the surgery then thinking a positive thought and saying a prayer for peace and clarity.
I can tell you are an amazing Surgeon!! Will never forget your 5P's. Be blessed. Thanks for the video.
Just find this channel. It's a great video. It's a great motivator, I am also preparing to one day apply to neurosurgery residency. Please keep posting more nuerosurgery videos. Greetings from Ecuador.
You are very impressive Doc. I am truly happy to see a fellow doctor balancing his work and life. Always good to see that we are not alone…
Thanks for the kind words/
Dear Mark, how wonderful. I look forward to your future chapters here.
I think a lot has changed and developed since my surgery by you, but your passion and dedication and desire to be always your best- what ever ways you study and prepare- are unfaltering. ( And I know both your parents would be so proud of your continuing ventures).
I read a LOT, about my problems and chronic pain...probably much, much more than most lay people...and I study a lot, but what has always been a constant, is that what ever my problems now, I HAD to have- NEEDED to have- YOUR surgery. And thank God you were trustworthy.
I appreciate you, and, regardless of all your clinical knowledge and techniques, you have a GIFT of patient caring and patient respect...I suppose some would call it "bedside manner"...but when you LISTEN to a patient, and look into a patient's EYES, I hope you never lose that special part of you.
Best wishes... 💕
straight memorization routine work. lol
Awesome insight for us medical laymen and tons of lessons to be learned there for anyone looking to be their best. Can't wait for more! Thanks for putting this out there.
The energy and stagnance and sense of affirmation u radiate truly justifies with th gravity of your profession sir. The sincerity in your voice and words must be a bliss for any patient you treat.
This is as serious as it gets. The best of the best. Top of the class. Discipline. God bless people like you !
I believe it takes somewhere around a decade of training after medical school before neurosurgeons actually do the work without supervision. To hear that prayer is part of his regular pre op routine shows what a marvelous practitioner he is ❤️
The 5 Ps are a formula for success in everyone's life...its going on our refrigerator....your patients, staff and family are lucky to have you....
Thank you
Sooo much respect for all the doctors /surgeons who save lives day in day out and huge huge respect for the nurses. That do all the hard work that doesn’t get recognised you all deserve the up most respect! Real superheroes that do all the miracles behind the scenes ❤
Thank you
My fiancé just had spinal surgery due to a blood clot that ruptured against her spine. A neurosurgeon performed the procedure and now she is slowly getting back to normal. Thank you for everything you do.
I enjoyed learning the "5 P's" and took note. Thank you!
Daily gratitude is so powerful and mixed with science, it is a beautiful thing and great healing.❤
Wow! I am so happy to find this channel. I have two shunts, one was done 15 years after the original. 30 years and 2 kids later, I am as normal as anybody. I am very blessed. My surgeon did not have good bedside manners when it came to adults, but he loved his kiddos. He obviously was pediatric. I work in the medical transportation field now so I pass his office within the hospital often. Hopefully one day, I can stop by and say a quick Thank You.
I'm glad I found this video. I have no interest in working in the medical field, but the techniques you use to get into the mindset of going into surgery is something to take note of. I feel that everyone who is looking to learn ways to prepare and set boundaries for a major activity you plan to perform then this is the video for you.
Thank you. I had a frontal lobe craniotomy in attempt to remove a meningioma. I appreciate you and your colleagues. I would not be here today without you.
This was incredible! The world is blessed to have a Surgeon like you!
I'm a carpenter and appreciate a good plan and procedure !! Not on your level , but still it reminds me of when I'm prepping for a new job!! Top of the line in terms of skill , education and experience!! Incredible stuff Bud!!! KEEP up the Great WORK!! Peace
Doc that was great! I'm getting ready for three surgery's on my back and neck, I'll watch this the morning I go into the hospital, Thank You Patrick
From someone who has a borderline handwashing problem, I love this, you go doc get them hands and arms clean, love the special attention to the nails. Bravo :)
Bless you for what you do Doctor!
I go through a very similar prep before I do surgery on my clients vehicles, the mental prep. Identify the problem, mental prep, material prep, and attack. 🇺🇸
Keep these videos coming! I love learning new things
I suffered a burst brain anuerysm the night my husband died. 3 brain surgeries, a shunt, and months of not being coherent and later going home alone, then losing my house, has left me lost. Not knowing what happened to me, what I experienced, haunts me. Thank you. Your video touches me deeply.
love it, never stop posting these
wow what a guy ! a real hero! you really do earn that millions!
I can't even fathom that we have technology that allows this, and talented doctors with the mechanical skill, focus and knowledge to complete the procedure(s). Absolutely insane.
This guy’s mental prep is on a another level!!
God bless you and thank you for helping people get better.
Surgeons really are truly gifted. Their families must be super proud of them.
If they ever see them😂
People that work with me in medical devices tell me I’m a brilliant CEO. The mind of a Neurosurgeon and the technical abilities they have, is Shakespeare compared to my talent. Most go dual residency as well on top of the 12 years. Insane amount of education and it never stops. Truly a craft.
I wonder how surgeons who do long surgeries manage their bathroom needs. I know this would be difficult for me to manage. The self-discipline and self-control over the mind is amazing.
Thank you Dr. McLaughlin, I’m going to try incorporating the 5P’s when I start going into the OR.
really wonderful description of ritual as we watch the ritual
Great Video! I have been referred to a Neurosurgeon because of my neck issues and I am a candidate for surgery. The thought of spine surgery is scary to me.
WOW! WOW! I'm glad there are people that can do this! :)
I honestly salute them for their efforts 👌
Great video doc!
Very cool, Doctor! You look like a high tech soldier going in to battle with all of the equipment lol.
Wowo wow wow this is really what i was looking for thank you
Wow! This is so cool to see. Thank-you for sharing 🙂
Wow! Thank you so much!!!!! What a beautiful and helpful insight. 👏🏼🙏🏼♥️
Thank you.
Awesome, thank you for your service. The Lord is with you every step, you are not alone.
im a law student but im 100% going to adopt the 5 p's in my daily professional practice!!!!!!!!!! thanks doc!!!!! that was so lovely and reflective
Wow...I was searching this kind of a vlog since long time...
Hi doc my prayers with you and all ur colleagues i really admire your gift and compassion towards mankind. I had a tumour in the pituitary gland and my doc was wonderful to. Thank you Lord. 🙏🙇♀️🛐🌺
Great video, thanks for the insight.
Gripping, brave, heroic , stunning, otherworldly, stellar,earth-shattering, even vaguely interesting.
Thank you so much Dr.!
Praying for you doctor mark😊😊
My left ear really loved this video
I’m glad he takes the time to prepare, focus, and pray. I don’t care that he washed his hands and talked to the camera. He’s supposed to start there! He didn’t take a shortcut just because we were watching. I just had a neurosurgeon fix my neck on the 20th. I pray he was this diligent. I have faith that he was. This dr can’t show all the patients or else he’d never leave. People these days are too impatient. And guess what’s next….part 2 of this day in the life.
Doctors are really great beings 🙏
Hats off to you sir
God bless you Doc
God bless you doctor, thank you so much for the video
My left air pod had a great time listening to this
Wow this is amazing ! I so appreciate you pray !
God bless you doctor thank you for bringing awesome for your patients
A hero indeed!
Awesome video!
Incredible!
The Entry 0:13 is absolutely of a Superhero a "Real-Life" superhero.
Wow so awesome-thank you!
Amazing video
God bless you Doctor
Thanks for sharing. :)
God bless you always ❤️
I want a gold Rolex too....always was fascinated by surgery - congrats on your success.
Brain is the most powerful weapon man has, every great work start with a great planning 👌🏻
Great, what type of magnification loupe do you recommend?
Do you do much scoliosis surgery? I’m fused T2 - L3 with the TSRHC Cross Link System.
Thanks Doctor
Wow, I was nervous just watching you scrub up. Looks like a very intense career.
No shit. It's surgery... cutting open a human's inside and keeping them alive while doing it.
I wish I had you for my neurosurgeon. The one I have now, has no preventive medicine plans. He never even discussed the test results of all the testing I had done. He doesn't take his job seriously enough!! SAD!!
I remember when he was a student in my class, proud my student is doing well. I’ve taught you well.
cap
i rate this as 9/10 as a hobby-neurosurgeon
interesting! to make a difference in someone's life
Dr McLaughlin, remember that my grandpa's neurosurgeon cousin invented the ventriculoperitoneal shunt, if you implant them. I have one in situ due to congenital stroke and hydrocephalus.
Amazing!!!!
Prayer!
Amen!🙏
Thanks for the 5 P.
That dude absolutely should (and does) make big bucks
