For once I own a Bark River you have LOL. I agree 100% with the vid. Main thing that sealed the deal for me on this one was the slight forward cant to the blade the bravo1 lacks. Keep up the great work Chris, cheers!
Recently picked up a Jx6 in black and purple kitrite in cpm154 love the feel and looks of the knife. I got it as a birthday gift.
That is a very good looking knife for sure. I like that it looks like a better slicer than my Bravo 1.
Informative. They have to be one of the best at the finishing of a knife. Thanks for the frankness.
They really make some beautiful knives.
Thanks Chris!
I like the wide blade look a good slicer.
Well done !
I would love a video showing this with a Bravo 1 or Bravo 1.25 to compare.
In a related thought, for the "axe" folks vs. baton knife, what do You believe the difference in expended energy of swinging axe to split versus knife batoning ? Weight of axe & swing seem to be of higher energy need as opposed to batoning. Outdoor thought to conserve energy & caloric reserve within one's body in case of longer term survival ? Thanks !
Everything that comes with Bark River is on this knife! The handle quality, the build, just why people like or want a Barkie.
Beautiful knife!!!
Beautiful blade. Nice to see a PM101 fixed blade review. Not complaining I enjoy the folders as well. I was never a fan of scout carry. Looks like you got winner with this knife. Thanks Chris enjoyed it.
Scout carry seems great to me and I love this sheath being different than on EXT-1. My EXT-1 and sheath are a great carry piece. Chris Tanner said the EXT-1 he reviewed was a fricken giant scalpel. Mine is tough, thick and sharp. My first 3v made knife!
Should start reviewing other products - maybe items for EDC or BOBs. That I would like to see and I’m sure many of your viewers would agree.
Keep up the good work man!
Want a bark river crusader but cannot find the gold burl grips.
Weird I was just looking at that knife on blade hq yesterday
The EXT-2 has its place for me. Little larger then what I like for field dressing whitetail but works fine. Definitely excels at skinning, quartering and processing, it's a slicer. Not what I would use to carry for woods walking, bushcraft etc. Could also make good general camp knife, food prep etc.
So great for elk and larger
I just picked one up. It’s got a very pointy tip. Do you have any concern for the tip strength?
Well with CPM 3V and convex grind I have ZERO concerns with tip strength. They cover that at all stages from design to thermal cycles to final grind. They are able to think of everything and got you covered!
58 degrees in Pa today
Great video thank you. I wish this model was available when I bought my bravo LT. I think id prefer the EXT 2 😕
Well it's not HUGELY different. I like the Fox River profile shape and the point seems better
like the smaller one very nice.
What kind of feel rod is that Chris?
I love this knife! I already have one bookmarked on DLT. I've been wanting to make the jump to Bark River. I'm a fan of ESEE and I have recently made a few custom knife purchases in this size range. I'm concerned I won't be able to maintain the edge properly. How do you sharpen a convex edge? Stropping and ceramic rods?
Edit: I pulled the trigger and ordered the EXT-2 3V with turquoise Burlap Micarta!! My very first Bark River Knife :)
Stropping lengthens out the time to sharpen. The edge holding keeps sharpening few and far between, but people that use a knife so much like that they hold their edge. Using a knife alot is the meaning of hard use. Sharpen on a stone or rod. Keep your wrists a little bit loose to avoid forming micro bevel and you'll maintain the convex shape of the edge. Nothing to stress about or overthink
Well it’s TWO YEARS later, how have you liked the knife? How has it held up over the years? Would you buy the fox river ext-2 all over again, or go with something else???
@@shadeshiest22 I like the EXT-2, but I REALLY like the EXT-1. The EXT-1 is a smaller size and seems to be an all around better knife for most tasks. The EXT-2 is larger than anESEE 4, but not as large as an ESEE 6. I strop the blades when I return from a weekend in the mountains and they are still razor sharp.
Cool! I got the first run EXT-1. It was my first 3V. I just pulled the trigger on Fox River EXT-2! I found one on this week's drop! I liked the Duskdog handle, but couldn't resist the last hollow pin one! I'm seeing it said 1/8" spine thickness! If that's right with Bravo one handle I may really like it! I'm waiting for Fox River 2 LT to be made and to drop and this new one will hold me over along with the WTG Nomad EDC that will ship after Chinese New Year
Can that knife baton!! We all know how well your knives baton Chris ;-) so they are an excellent reference towards those by other designers.
Hey chris what watch is that. Another great barky
Samsung S3 Frontier
I definitely want to save up for a Bark River at some point. For all you BR fans watching this video, what would you recommend as a good starting knife to get a feel for how their knives perform?
Large or extra large hands?
The different models have a very wide "feel" and performance! I wouldn't chop with a Bravo 2, either would Mike Stewart: he told me. Bravo series is pretty good military knives. They have micro fixed blades to EDC and of course hunting knives par excellence! Alot depends on your hand size and what tasks you want to do. Theres so many dozens of designs you can really dial it in to get close to just what you want! LT means thin spine. I personally cannot get enough of them and the more, the BETTER! Good luck. You'll have fun using and owning one!
@@ssunfish I have plenty of fixed blades for camping, so i would probably start out with a smaller one that I could EDC in a front pocket sheath. I am usually a large glove size, but definitely not XL. I know they tend to favor convex grinds and I'm not an expert at sharpening by any stretch, so thats one of the reasons I've delayed for so long.
@@darthblade2016 I think you'd be surprised how easy it is to own one and sharpen it. For one it doesn't need a lot of sharpening or often as most knives. That's the appeal of better knives. I recommend watching videos of stropping and get a strop kit when you get a barkie. You could go EDC very easy. Some sites let you buy by size of blade. EDC fixed blade is a GREAT option. If you take to it, the world is your oyster! Have you ever tried a "three finger" design? Little Creek might please you. Utilty caper is in elmax and that would ROCK as an EDC.
@@ssunfish I have a stropping strap and am trying to get better with it. My usual source to touch up blades is a ceramic rod. Thank u for the suggestion though, i will continue to work on that. 3-finger designs are hit or miss for me. I tend to prefer a full grip, but i do enjoy my CRKT Minimalist, lol. Ill have to check that one out though and start saving up for something, haha.
We havent seen Jessica in YEARS !
She still alive?
Looking forward to a review of the EXT3, 4, 5 ,6
Cool
Thanks Chris, if you ever find a Jessica X, please pick it up for me and I'll buy it from you. I don't have a regular computer, only a not-so-smartphone so I'm not able to search as often as possible/you do. Thanks, take care, "God Bless", sincerely -
I could see a Fox River LT in my future if I could get an Elmax one, to go with my trusty but abused Fox River original in A2.
I would love to try Fox River 2 in LT or the A-2 steel version!
Fox river LT?? Are you saying you want an even smaller LT? The Fox river knives are “LT” sized blade widths to begin with as is… My fox river ext-2 is the SAME EXACT blade width(using calipers) as my Bravo 1.25 LT…handle sizes are the same shape, the bravo 1.25 is just slightly longer blade length. I LOVE LT sized bark rivers, I was looking to get another bravo 1.25 LT in upgraded steel(cruwear instead of 3v) but there was none available(luckily) and by chance happened to look for one right during a fox river ext-2 drop in cruwear, so got it instead after reading the specs!! They both have their place and are both great knives can’t go wrong with either one, but man I like the fox river ext-2 even BETTER!! Still would like to get a bravo 1.25 LT in cruwear just to have/compare/test, but can’t find a ramp-less version for sale ANYWHERE
Lucky thing is that ramp can be removed, but not added after the fact
love bark river but i hate there new sheaths .....they dont fit right out of the box you have to stretch that strap, in my opinion for the money it should fit right away....jmho
But the leather will loose up in time so it has to start harder for the long haul
I would love to own one but it's out of my price range.
And there goes half of my next paycheck LOL
woof!
I am still new to watching your videos. But it's starting to look like all bush knives are the same. Just different steel. May I wrong? I will continue watching your videos because I want to learn about knives and what they are capable of doing.
Well in a trope of use, classic design features are called for. I salute any independence of thought following action when you find a much different feature is more in line with your use, not just to be original or different.
i bought mine when it first came out. between this and the ext1 i prefer the ext1 for most tasks. id really love this with the same handle but a 5.5ish inch blade. maybe an ext-3
Love Bark River knives...but that particular blade is a little derivative and boring... better options from them justifying a $240 buck price tag.... different strokes I guess.
''so its not laying on the ground soaking up wood'' ???????? ummmmm i think you got that a little bit twisted
I caught it too, but figured I wouldn't be the only onr
A lot quality but a bit ecpensive
Of course its a great knife , Bark Rivers knives that are second to none !!!!
