  • Hi folks, I’m sharing another high quality hunting knife. This is the new Bark River Fox River EXT-2. The specs and details are listed below. Enjoy!
Bark River Fox River EXT-2 - Dark Curly Maple with Red Liners and Mosaic Pins
    Specs for Fox River EXT-2
Overall Length: 9.4 inches or 23.8 cm
Blade Length: 4.5 inches or 11.4 cm
Blade Thickness: .157 inch or 3.9 mm
    Blade Steel: CPM3V
Weight: 7.1 ounces or 201 grams
    Grind: Convex
    Blade Style: Drop point
Comparison specs for Fox River EXT-1
Overall Length: 8.6 inches or 21.8 cm
Blade Length: 4.1 inches or 10.4 cm
Blade Thickness: .157 inch or 3.9 mm
    Blade Steel: CPM3V
    Weight: 5.7 or 161 grams
    Grind: Convex
    Blade Style: Drop point
The blade on the new Fox River EXT-2 is slightly longer and taller than the standard Fox River. The handle design is very similar, but offers a slightly larger footprint for a fuller grip.
Note: the weight on the Fox River EXT-2 feels noticeably heavier than the Fox River EXT-1. It weighs about 40 grams more than the EXT-1 and about 60 grams more than the standard Fox River LT.
For me, I like the feel of the standard Fox River LT better; however, the new Fox River EXT-2 may appeal to some folks. It has a longer and taller blade for deeper cuts, and more forward belly for skinning. In summary, the Fox River EXT-2 is the larger version of the Fox River EXT-1.

Usually when you get natural materials they tend to shrink or swell depending on the location, temperature, and moisture. Bark River is usually very understanding if you send it back they'll either fix it or replace it for you. Great looking knife!

That raised area would drive me nuts. I would grind that down and polish it smooth myself. Not enough of an issue to ship back imo.

Did you know if you contact the company they will have you mail the knife to them and they will fix it up for you at no charge. I own a few bark river knives. Made my own Kydex sheath. But if you want to contact the company and they will fix that up for you

I've fileted catfish before with my BK16, same size. I wasn't able to pull the blade in between the meat and skin though like I can with a filet knife or mora. Do you think you can skin fish this?

This knife wasn't designed to clean fish. It's too thick. You need a filet knife.

My god, the ext-2 makes the ext-1 look like a steak knife. LOL, Look at the belly on the 2, nice knife. Thanks for sharing.

I bought a fox river 2 in September and the tip broke off the first week. I stuck it into a stump and it snapped. I Just got it back from warranty and the tip was ground down some but is still curved to the right. The finish also is rough compared to when I first bought it. I still “like” the knife but I don’t think I’ll be buying another because of the poor quality control.

Why did you have to stick your knife into a stump, how does that help you in the woods?

Why are you sticking a hunting knife into a stump? Its made to cut meat and carve not pry with. Know your tools and use them for what they are for.
